Managing a conflict of interest

Hello, NewsletterTheFriars. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about in the page Aylesford Priory, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Username issue

As I said in my reply at the Teahouse, you're not going to like this very much, but I do need to mention another issue that you no doubt weren't aware of. It relates to your username which, unfortunately, suggests that the account is open for more than one person to access. This is against our policy (we require one person-one account), but there is a very easy remedy. If I could ask you simply to cease using that account from now on and to create another free account with a better, less promotional name that is only used by yourself, that would be perfect. So, for example, User:FriaryFrancis or User:NewsletterClare would be absolutely OK. You could then add a note to the old account stating that it has been abandoned, and link to your new account name, resolving never to use the old one again. Then you can carry on editing with the new account, and we'll be delighted to assist you in understanding any of our seemingly complicated guidelines, and we hope you continue to contribute to Wikipedia. I for one think you are well positioned to add a 'Further Reading' section on the priory, as I'm sure you must be aware of past and antiquarian publications about the Priory which many others aren't aware of. That can be immensely useful, and isn't a conflict of interest. Providing you declare your account connection on your (new) user page, it should be OK for you to add neutral factual statements to the article, though proposing them on the talk page, waiting a week for any editor to raise concerns, and then inserting them if nobody replies is actually a better way of dealing with your desire to improve the encyclopaedia. You could, if you wish, also mention your new account there, and mention your old account on the user page of your new account, but you don't have to do this. You should mention your connection with any organisation that you are editing. Dbfirs 23:22, 11 July 2019 (UTC)
