How to be an Admin

Hi Nexus03. Thanks for your message. To become an administrator you need to pass a request for adminship. Whilst there are no minimum requirements generally editos who pass are likely to have several thousand edits and many months of tenure to demonstrate their experience on Wikipedia. You might find this page handy reading. Pedro :  Chat  09:04, 2 June 2011 (UTC)

Just to add a little to what Pedro said up there, recent statistics suggest that the bare minimum level of experience is around 4,000 and 9 months on Wikipedia. However, you would have to be an exceptional candidate to pass an RfA with that. The median edit count for new admins is 19,000 and tenure of 43 months, with uninterupted editing of 9 months. But you are also judged on your past record in various wikipedia areas, including articles for deletion, new page patrol (accuracy of CSD tagging, etc.), general knowledge of Wikipedia policy, etc.

My suggestion would be to just start contributing to articles that interest you, and gradually get involved in the background stuff. Don't obsess about edit counts or how to maximise them. Just enjoy improving the article for now. Catfish Jim (ex-soapdish) 12:10, 2 June 2011 (UTC)
