Hello Nikolai Kurbatov, and welcome to Wikipedia. All or some of your addition(s) to Louisiana Caviar have been removed, as it appears to have added copyrighted material without evidence of permission from the copyright holder. While we appreciate your contributing to Wikipedia, there are certain things you must keep in mind about using information from your sources to avoid copyright or plagiarism issues here.

  • You can only copy/translate a small amount of a source, and you must mark what you take as a direct quotation with double quotation marks (") and cite the source using an inline citation. You can read about this at Wikipedia:Non-free content in the sections on "text". See also Help:Referencing for beginners, for how to cite sources here.
  • Aside from limited quotation, you must put all information in your own words and structure, in proper paraphrase. Following the source's words too closely can create copyright problems, so it is not permitted here; see Wikipedia:Close paraphrasing. (There is a college-level introduction to paraphrase, with examples, hosted by the Online Writing Lab of Purdue.) Even when using your own words, you are still, however, asked to cite your sources to verify information and to demonstrate that the content is not original research.
  • Our primary policy on using copyrighted content is Wikipedia:Copyrights. You may also want to review Wikipedia:Copy-paste.
  • If you own the copyright to the source you want to copy or are a designated agent, you may be able to license that text so that we can publish it here. However, there are steps that must be taken to verify that license before you do. See Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials.
  • In very rare cases (that is, for sources that are public domain or compatibly licensed), it may be possible to include greater portions of a source text. However, please seek help at the help desk before adding such content to the article. 99.9% of sources may not be added in this way, so it is necessary to seek confirmation first. If you do confirm that a source is public domain or compatibly licensed, you will still need to provide full attribution; see Wikipedia:Plagiarism for the steps you need to follow.
  • Also note that Wikipedia articles may not be copied or translated without attribution. If you want to copy or translate from another Wikipedia project or article, you can, but please follow the steps in Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia.

It's very important that contributors understand and follow these practices, as policy requires that people who persistently do not must be blocked from editing. If you have any questions about this, you are welcome to leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. - MrX 18:17, 1 July 2017 (UTC)Reply

IMDb and reliable sources

Hi Nikolai. Thank you for your articles on old Soviet films; I think these are a valuable contribution to the encyclopaedia. There is one problem though: here on enwiki, the consensus is that IMDb is not a wholly reliable source. If possible, please add other references to these articles. I applaud your efforts to improve coverage of Russian film in English Wikipedia. Three points:

  1. Please check your bluelinks before posting. I've had to repair at least 20 which were pointing to disambiguation pages.
  2. You can use {{interlanguage link}} to connect redlinks to Russian Wikipedia; as I did with, for example, Aleksandr Sokolov [ru] in Boy from the Outskirts. (Aleksandr Sokolov is one of those disambiguation pages I mentioned above.)
  3. If you translate a page from another Wikipedia into English, always add {{translated page}} to the Talk Page of the English-language article. Only the first two parameters are needed (original language, and the title of the original article).

Please {{ping}} me if you have any questions. Yrs, Narky Blert (talk) 05:31, 8 August 2018 (UTC)Reply

Settlement stubs

edit

Hallo, I have just stub-sorted a whole batch of your newly-created stubs on small Russian settlements. Thank you for your contributions to the encyclopedia.

Three points.

  1. We don't need the list of street names in each place: this is a level of unnecessary detail. We don't include it for villages in other countries (see for example Featured Article Birchington-on-Sea). Just because the information is available to you is not a reason to include it. I haven't taken the time to remove it from the articles I've stub-sorted to date, but please stop including it.
  2. Most of these articles seem to have more detailed equivalents in Russian Wikipedia, with more sources. Could you please include more information, and more sources. Quality rather than quantity of stubs?
  3. Could you perhaps add the appropriate stub tag to your articles, to save other editors the work of doing so? The stub tag is of the form {{OmskOblast-geo-stub}} for Oblasts, {{KhabarovskKrai-geo-stub}} for Krais, and {{Udmurtia-geo-stub}} for regions.

Thanks! PamD 12:53, 12 August 2018 (UTC)Reply

And if a place has a population of zero it's not likely to survive at AfD - but if it had a past non-zero population then it's a formerly populated place and, I think, qualifies as notable. So when you create an article like 1417 km, as well as giving the current population as zero please supply and cite the earlier non-zero population figure as given in the Russian wikipedia article, having checked the source. Thanks. PamD 12:58, 12 August 2018 (UTC)Reply

Names of Russian rural localities

edit

We have here certain conventions concerning the naming of the articles. Please have a look at Abalakovo how it should be done. Assuming there is no principal meaning (which is typically the case, with exceptions of may be large cities) we create a SET index NAME at the central name and create the villages at NAME, SUBJECT if it is not ambiguous, and NAME, DISTRICT, SUBJECT if there are two villages with the same name in the same federal subject. If you have difficulties with the scheme, please ask me or Eziki for help.--Ymblanter (talk) 07:08, 14 August 2018 (UTC)Reply

And please add sources for the population in all articles you have created, otherwise you would not be able to demonstrate notability.--Ymblanter (talk) 16:00, 14 August 2018 (UTC)Reply

Proposed deletion of 4th Uchastok

edit

The article 4th Uchastok has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Blank spot on the map for a supposedly unpopulated locality

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. –LaundryPizza03 (d) 19:19, 20 August 2018 (UTC)Reply

Merging localities

edit

Hi! As a test, I have merged a number of articles on small localities to a list article (which was woefully incomplete anyway). You can see this at list of rural localities in Vologda Oblast, where I have merged about 46 articles so far. It seems to me that, apart from the number of streets (which was included with some of the articles but of little value anyway), I have not omitted any information, but simply presented it in a much more compact, accesible format (since most of the pages were very repetitive anyway). While localities are notable in themselves, per WP:PAGEDECIDE this doesn't necessarily mean that the information is best presented as separate articles.

Your opinion is obviously welcome, since you put a lot of hard work into these and I couldn't have created the lists without your prior work. If you agree that this presentation is better (for small localities, obviously not for cities or once there is more information on a locality), perhaps there is a way that new creations can immediately be made in this way? Fram (talk) 15:00, 30 October 2019 (UTC)Reply

I do not have a strong opinion on what is better, but I think if we go for a table format, we need to preserve information which was contained in the articles. This information is (in addition to the name, district, and coordinates): Russian spelling; 2010 population with a reference; possibly current population, though this one would be difficult to update in the table format; third level of administrative division (rural/urban settlement - they are actually municipal divisions, administrative divisions are selsoviets, but I do not have time to correct all of this now, and in most cases they are the same). I am unsure about links - currently most of the names would be redirects (though some have genuine articles and should not be merged into the table), but if someone creates an article on a rural locality, the link would automatically point out to the article. In addition I would strongly suggest not to redirect district centers - whereas for Vologda Oblast this is not applicable, since I have written all these articles several years ago, and they contain a lot of sourced non-trivial information, for many other subjects of the Russian Federation I only created the articles with minimum information and plan to work on them in the future. Still, these have many incoming links, and redirecting them to lists would be unhelpful.--Ymblanter (talk) 06:55, 31 October 2019 (UTC)Reply
I have no intention to redirect district centers and the like, at the moment I thought to focus on the "rural localities" only (which are mainly very small). Any locality which had more than the basic, repetitive information would not be redirected of course (though it would be best to have the place in the list as well). The pages I merged so far don't have info on the 2010 population, if I come across places with such information I would provide a column for this. Adding the Russian spelling is a good idea, I'll do this for the ones I already merged. But that seems to be the only bit of information that I didn't copy over from an article like Zhilkino. Fram (talk) 08:09, 31 October 2019 (UTC)Reply
(talk page stalker) Butting in since I've been largely responsible for the creation/updating of the "List of rural localities in..." lists - is the merging something you're intending to do for every (or nearly every) rural locality in Russia? I'm only asking because there's upwards of 6,000 or 7,000 of these articles so far (Bashkortostan‎ alone has a mind-boggling 4,400) and I don't think Nikolai Kurbatov is even close to done. It would be a monumental task to merge so many. ♠PMC(talk) 08:20, 31 October 2019 (UTC)Reply
I do not know the number, but the total number of districts is a couple of thousands, so my guess is that the total number of rural localities in Russia must be approaching 100,000. At some point we will have to start making separate lists for districts.--Ymblanter (talk) 08:50, 31 October 2019 (UTC)Reply
I see for example that Afankovo did not have information on the 2010 census, but it had sourced population from 2002 census (the censuses in Russia were most recently conducted in 1989, 2002, and 2010). I might be wrong indeed about 2010, but I think most of similar articles I sampled earlier had some population information, and it would be good to find some way to add it to the table. (May be just the last available census?) Concerning the rural settlements, one can just leave a blank column, I can fill them in later. (Again, this is all assuming that the table is the best format, which I have no opinion about). Finally, some district centers (not all of them) in Russia are rural localities. For example, Imeni Babushkina, the center of Babushkinsky district, is a rural locality. This article is clearly not a candidate for redirecting to a table, however, other articles like Parabel (rural locality) might be. I will at some point come back to the latter one, but for the time being I would like to keep it as an article, not as a redirect - it is clearly notable and has a few incoming links.--Ymblanter (talk) 08:46, 31 October 2019 (UTC)Reply
I already include population figures, as given in the article. I will not merge administrative centres (I will include them in the list as well of course). The absolutely massive number of permastubs on very small villages is the reason why having them in a list format may be better. At the moment, finding all articles on rural localities of district X or Y is nearly impossible (they are categorised by oblast, the current lists are very incomplete, and other means like "what links here" give many false positives. I could simply update the list, but if with three or four additional columns we have basically all the information these articles contain, but in one handy page instead of spread over dozens, I see no reason to keep most of these pages as separate articles.
If this turns out to be a better format than individual articles, it might be better if future articles were created as list items as well (with redirects from the village name). Cleaning up the current situation is a big task, perhaps it may be done by bot although, like I said, finding the right articles (and leaving out the few ones that don't need merging) is perhaps too hard for a bot. Fram (talk) 09:10, 31 October 2019 (UTC)Reply
A bot working from a human-checked list might be a good way to go about it, or maybe a bot coded to exclude anything larger than page size X (under the assumption that anything larger than the usual size probably has additional information that needs human review). I admit I wasn't crazy about the table version at first but it's growing on me the more I look at it. ♠PMC(talk) 09:23, 31 October 2019 (UTC)Reply
Thanks. I now finished Babushkinsky District (some 100 localities), and doing it all by hand is possible but not the smartest use of someone's time probably if a bot can do it. Fram (talk) 14:07, 4 November 2019 (UTC)Reply
You can not delete articles, if i will write informaiton about geography, like in Ivanovskoye? Nikolai Kurbatov (talk) 01:48, 8 November 2019 (UTC)Reply
If we decide that the table format is the best way to go, none of the articles or the information in the articles would be deleted. The information from them would still be kept on Wikipedia, it would just be condensed into a table on a single article such as List of rural localities in Vologda Oblast rather than spread out over multiple small articles. ♠PMC(talk) 03:25, 8 November 2019 (UTC)Reply

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited List of Soviet films of 1983, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Aleksandr Kuznetsov (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Proposed deletion of 1812 (1912 film)

edit

The article 1812 (1912 film) has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Non notable film with nothing to support it having its own article. Russian articles don't support its notability, they only mention that the film is being shown in a festival.

Distances from x

edit

Hi, I've noticed you've been adding '(Article) is x km (direction) of (district administrative center).' to a variety of Russian location stubs. The concern I have that this is specifically if you travel by road between the two. Quite a number of the locations are actually closer than this, but a convoluted road system means the distances to travel by car are longer. At a minimum I think this should be made clear in the articles you are editing, for example '(Article) is x km (direction) of (district administrative center) by road.'

When starting a new paragraph or section, the subject should be made explicit, so writing 'Kuzminka is...' rather than 'It is...'

Also it would be helpful if instead of just writing say Vereshchagino, you were to link and dab it to the specific settlement you are referring to, ie. Vereshchagino, Vereshchaginsky District, Perm Krai, especially when there are a number of settlements with that name. And to make it clear why the distance to that specific settlement is being indicated, so in total '(Article) is x km (direction) of (district administrative center), the district's administrative center, by road.', eg. 'Kuzminka is located 22 km northeast of Vereshchagino, the district's administrative center, by road.'

What do you think? Spokoyni (talk) 06:24, 7 October 2021 (UTC)Reply

Dagestan Selo articles

edit

Hi Nikolai. Thanks for creating so many Dagestan Selo articles. I have some concerns about them I would like to ask clarification about:

  • AllRoutes.Ru appears to be pure algorithmically-generated content. It is not clear why this is a reliable source.
  • Mapdata.ru seems to be similarly just algorithm-generated content based on Yandex.ru maps. Again, it is not clear why this is a reliable source.
  • I see a link in these Selo articles to a website where the Dagestan 2010 census can be downloaded. I see the number of the table is typically identified in the link, and by looking through I can normally find (after some time) the name of the Selo in Cyrillic script. This appears to be the only source that is reasonable reliable here, and the only data it contains is the name and population of the Selo.

In the above circumstance, where the only real data is the name and population of the Selo, doesn't it make more sense just to list these Selo at district level? FOARP (talk) 11:18, 18 November 2021 (UTC)Reply

Rural Dagestan villages

edit

Hey, so it's great you are improving our coverage of Russian villages, but you should slow down a bit. It's not worth it to make articles like Chondotl, Tumagari, and Gotsatl Malyy which all might not even exist anymore (being excluded from the 2021 census). From what I can tell, you are putting out an article every 3 minutes on recently. You also were rapidly removing article prose from pages without any edit summary (replacing sourced prose with a template and only the prefix "Population:").

You should please consider reviewing WP:MASSCREATION, WP:GEOLAND, and WP:LOCAL. If you are going to make these articles and types of edits, you should highly consider getting consensus before making them first. –MJLTalk 18:27, 23 June 2023 (UTC)Reply
