Draft:RattanIndia
Hello North America. I have been working on this article. It was moved to drafts by an editor because it had lot of unwanted content. I read the policies and guidelines properly and I have removed all of that content and added proper information about the company. This was proposed to be deleted deep in past and the nominator had withdrawn their nomination after you had proven that the subject was notable Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Rattanindia. Can you please check the draft now and promote it to mainspace? Thank you so very much. Bhambhuvikram (talk) 14:18, 17 October 2021 (UTC)
- @Bhambhuvikram: I will need more time to look into this. For starters, though, the notability guidelines at WP:CORP were made more stringent sometime later, after the AfD discussion that I participated in back in 2015 for this article. It is possible at this time that the company may very well not meet the present notability guidelines. Pinging MrsSnoozyTurtle here, who draftified the article in August to Draft:RattanIndia (diff). North America1000 17:43, 17 October 2021 (UTC)
- Hello Northamerica1000, thanks for the ping. Personally I would prefer for this article to go through the normal review process at AfC. Especially since the author has not responded to AllyD's COI request and most of their edits are related to the company. Regards, MrsSnoozyTurtle 21:35, 17 October 2021 (UTC)
- Hello North America, okay. please take your time. There is lot of news about Indiabulls power (Now RattanIndia). [7], [8]. Lot of books also talk about the company. [9]. I am sorry I didn't respond to request. Will do it now. Bhambhuvikram (talk) 13:23, 19 October 2021 (UTC)
- @Bhambhuvikram: Since I particpated in the deletion discussion for the article (here), it would be a bit inappropriate for me to personally move this back to article space. I recommend taking the submission through the Articles for creation process as MrsSnoozyTurtle has suggested above, when you feel the article is ready. This can be initiated by clicking on/selecting the "Submit the draft for review" link atop the Draft:RattanIndia page. North America1000 10:57, 21 October 2021 (UTC)

- Okay, thank you. I will. Also, I declared my conflict with this. Is it okay now? Bhambhuvikram (talk) 15:15, 28 October 2021 (UTC)
- @Bhambhuvikram: For starters, note that I am not reviewing this draft, and I don't plan on doing so. It was declined at Articles for creation (AfC) by Nomadicghumakkad (diff), who reviewed the draft. You need to please confer with Nomadicghumakkad at this time about the draft. I am not interested in working on this draft at this time, and since I contributed to its earlier deletion discussion, I recuse myself from accepting the AfC submission. North America1000 19:26, 28 October 2021 (UTC)
- Okay, thank you. I will. Also, I declared my conflict with this. Is it okay now? Bhambhuvikram (talk) 15:15, 28 October 2021 (UTC)
- I definitely want to clarify that I have rejected because I feel it is still simply promoting the company. The company seems to be notable otherwise and is qualifying WP:CORPDEPTH. If the creator can also add more negative content about the company (for example, the IE article about land conflict), I can accept it. But, in it's current shape where the purpose of the page is just promotion, it doesn't work. Nomadicghumakkad (talk) 16:05, 29 October 2021 (UTC)

AfD v Merge
Re that AfD you speedy closed. Bureaucratic procedural hoops. I thought I was being thorough by proposing the meager content be moved/merged, and had no idea that would sabotage my AfD nomination. I won't make that mistaken again. Earlier today I had read that 'merge' was an appropriate reason for AfDing in some cases, but I cannot now locate that writeup in the grand cosmos of Wikipedia's vast library of policies. You probably know well that merger discussions routinely go nowhere — get almost no community participation, are open ended (no deadline), and no one 'closes' them. I'll give it one month. Yes, I'll put this on my calendar. If nothing happens (and I won't be holding my breath), I will AfD it with no merge recommendation (rather than rewording it right now and resubmitting the AfD). Or maybe I'll amuse myself by adding an RfC in there somewhere. I prefer deadline-driven procedures with some semblance of finality, but I'll play along and file a merge request. Platonk (talk) 02:56, 8 November 2021 (UTC)
- @Platonk: Sorry you're disappointed with the close, but it is in congruence with Wikipedia:Speedy keep, a Wikipedia deletion guideline. I don't view it as particularly bureucratic, because my close was based upon a guideline that was decided upon via consensus. An idea is to consider starting a discussion on the Speedy keep talk page to try and get the guideline changed, since you don't approve of it. North America1000 22:08, 9 November 2021 (UTC)
- Speedy keep policy wasn't my problem... it was understanding the complicated intricacies of the merge processes. Determined to figure it out, I re-read everything about merge. I think I have a handle on it now. Platonk (talk) 00:07, 10 November 2021 (UTC)
- I trust you have found WP:MAD. If any of it is for merging, do not delete.
- Bold merges are to be encouraged. If it is too much, consider Wikipedia:Proposed article mergers.
- Also somewhere was established a firm consensus that Wikipedia:Proposed article mergers cases should not be sent to AfD. SmokeyJoe (talk) 00:24, 10 November 2021 (UTC)

Tidying up some unused templates
Hi there! A small group of editors is working on tidying up Template space, focusing on templates that have no transclusions and appear to be abandoned or otherwise not useful. I came across these ten pages (excluding {{TAFI Main page/Main page queue/1}}) on a report, as well as {{TAFI Main page queue/1}} and {{TAFI Main page queue/2}}, and I wonder if you have any use for them. If not, you can place {{Db-author}} on each page to have them speedily deleted, or I can run them through the normal Templates for Discussion process. Thanks! – Jonesey95 (talk) 19:06, 16 November 2021 (UTC)
- @Jonesey95: Go ahead and do whatever you want. Just please don't break the WP:AFI pages in the process, which has occurred before. After the project's name was changed from "Today's articles for improvement" to "Articles for improvement", due to folks wanting to change things around, many of the project pages were broken into an absurd mess. Then, since nobody who was so eager to get then name changed bothered to fix the significant problems created in the aftermath, I had to spend a great deal of my personal time performing around 90% of the fixes myself, as well as MusikAnimal in reconfiguring Musikbot, which nobody bothered to consider before changing the project's name. Frankly, I had and have other things I'd rather be doing. Cheers, North America1000 07:25, 18 November 2021 (UTC)
- Thanks for the response. I will nominate these unused templates for deletion after double-checking that they do not appear to be used in any part of the TAFI process. If somehow one of them is actually being used, and it is subsequently deleted, I will take full responsibility for restoring it. Possibly annoyingly, you will get a bunch of TFD notifications on your talk page as part of the standard TFD nomination workflow; you are welcome to delete those or archive them as soon as you receive them. [edited to add: I have nominated the two outliers, since they seem to be pages created at the wrong location. After a bit of research, I marked the rest with documentation pages explaining their potential use so that I wouldn't break old talk page discussions.] – Jonesey95 (talk) 15:32, 18 November 2021 (UTC)

Double portal links
Could you fix the double portal links at the bottom of Template:Postal history of Africa, Template:Postal history of Europe ...? the best thing to do would probably remove the link you added and keep the more concise bar at the bottom. Frietjes (talk) 22:37, 19 November 2021 (UTC)
- @Frietjes: Oops, I missed that tiny portal link, as most readers unfortunately likely do as well, leading to lesser usage and page views of the portal. Yes, I will get to this soon, but will format it in a different manner to make the template links more prominent to match the more prominent portal link. It's my opinion that many readers skim right past very tiny links to content, thus never visiting the content. North America1000 23:19, 19 November 2021 (UTC)

It is with great sadness that we report the death on 19 November of Twofingered Typist, who was active with the Guild almost daily for the past several years. His contributions long exceeded the thresholds for the Guild's highest awards, and he had a hand in innumerable good and featured article promotions as a willing collaborator. Twofingered Typist also served as a Guild coordinator from July 2019 to June 2021. He is sorely missed by the Wikipedia community. Progress report: As of 30 November, GOCE copyeditors have completed 619 requests in 2021 and there were 51 requests awaiting completion on the Requests page. The backlog stood at 946 articles tagged for copy-editing (see monthly progress graph above). Thank you all again for your participation; we wouldn't be able to achieve what we have without you! Cheers from your GOCE coordinators Jonesey95, Dhtwiki, Tenryuu, and Miniapolis. To discontinue receiving GOCE newsletters, please remove your name from our mailing list.

Latest tech news from the Wikimedia technical community. Please tell other users about these changes. Not all changes will affect you. Translations are available.
Recent changes
- There are now default short aliases for the "Project:" namespace on most wikis. E.g. On Wikibooks wikis,
[[WB:]]
will go to the local language default for the[[Project:]]
namespace. This change is intended to help the smaller communities have easy access to this feature. Additional local aliases can still be requested via the usual process. [14]
Changes later this week
- The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 14 December. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 15 December. It will be on all wikis from 16 December (calendar).

Proposal at Talk:TikTok
Hi there. I found your name at WP:APPS and was hoping you could take a look at my proposal at Talk:TikTok#Re-arranging content to comply with MOS:LEAD and MOS:LAYOUT. I work for ByteDance, TikTok's parent company, so I'm not making these edits directly, just searching for an experienced, uninvolved editor to evaluate the proposal and hopefully implement it. (I began a discussion there with User:SMcCandlish, who said he largely concurs with the proposal, but doesn't currently have the capacity to review it adequately.) Thanks! Bkenny44 (talk) 13:46, 24 November 2021 (UTC)
- @Bkenny44: I'm rather busy with other matters, and likely won't become involved in this matter. North America1000 22:42, 24 November 2021 (UTC)
Administrators will no longer be autopatrolled
A recently closed Request for Comment (RFC) reached consensus to remove Autopatrolled from the administrator user group. You may, similarly as with Edit Filter Manager, choose to self-assign this permission to yourself. This will be implemented the week of December 13th, but if you wish to self-assign you may do so now. To find out when the change has gone live or if you have any questions please visit the Administrator's Noticeboard. 20:06, 7 December 2021 (UTC)
Mobile portals
Regarding edits such as this one, this seems a rather annoying bit of busywork to have to do. Is there a reason not to edit the default portal template to be viewable on mobile? Best, CMD (talk) 08:09, 8 December 2021 (UTC)
- @Chipmunkdavis: We're discussing this matter at WT:WikiProject Portals#Important update. Tl;dr: we could redirect {{Portal}} to {{Portal-mobile}}, but some portals display poorly on mobile. Certes (talk) 12:31, 8 December 2021 (UTC)
- @Chipmunkdavis: Ditto what Certes stated above. North America1000 06:47, 9 December 2021 (UTC)

Tech News
- Because of the holidays the next issue of Tech News will be sent out on 10 January 2022.
Recent changes
- Queries made by the DynamicPageList extension (
<DynamicPageList>
) are now only allowed to run for 10 seconds and error if they take longer. This is in response to multiple outages where long-running queries caused an outage on all wikis. [15]
Changes later this week
- There is no new MediaWiki version this week or next week.
Future changes
- The developers of the Wikipedia iOS app are looking for testers who edit in multiple languages. You can read more and let them know if you are interested.
- The Wikimedia Cloud VPS hosts technical projects for the Wikimedia movement. Developers need to claim projects they use. This is because old and unused projects are removed once a year. Unclaimed projects can be shut down from February. [16]

Thank you for fixing mobile portals!
I just wanted to say thank you for fixing the mobile interface of the portal template! Tyrone Madera (talk) 05:44, 11 December 2021 (UTC)
- @Tyrone Madera: Thanks. A few hiccups have occurred here and there, as is typical when a significant change occurs, but fortunately, we have some really great volunteers that are working to square everything away. North America1000 12:56, 13 December 2021 (UTC)
Portal cats
Your edited {{portal}}
recently, and after that, hundreds of pages were added to Category:Portal templates with all redlinked portals and Category:Portal-inline template with redlinked portals. Something appears to have been fixed, because the missing portals it is finding were not recently deleted - these should not be new errors. But at the same time, they are going into wrong categories. Those two categories have the same number of pages; most are not using portal-inline. Category:Portal templates with redlinked portals is empty, many of these pages should be in this category. Can you look into this? MB 21:38, 12 December 2021 (UTC)
- @MB: Check out the discussion at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Portals § Portal link template categories, where the matter is being addressed by users that are tech savvy in Module matters. I have also posted a comment there regarding this matter. North America1000 03:48, 13 December 2021 (UTC)
