Great photos of campus!
editHey, as a fellow student of LSU, I just wanted to say the photos you contributed to the Louisiana State University page stood out as very high quality. The vividness of the colors is awesome. Thanks for contributing! 72.219.56.68 (talk) 11:22, 11 December 2009 (UTC)

WikiProject Films coordinator elections - voting now open!
editWP:FILMS Questionnaire
editAs a member of WikiProject Films, you are invited to take part in the project's first questionnaire. It is intended to gauge your participation and views on the project. At the conclusion of the questionnaire, the project's coordinators will use the gathered feedback to find new ways to improve the project and reach out to potential members. The results of the questionnaire will be published in next month's newsletter. If you know of any editors who have edited film articles in the past, please invite them to take part in the questionnaire. Please stop by and take a few minutes to answer the questions so that we can continue to improve our project. Happy editing!

Your GA nomination of Louisiana State University
editThe article Louisiana State University you nominated as a good article has failed ; see Talk:Louisiana State University for reasons why the nomination failed. Just to let you know, Benjamin's DOB is listed as 1985. I think you meant to put 1895. Thanks for putting that up, by the way. It's a great help. And awesome pics of the campus as well. Willcrys 84 (talk) 04:26, 11 August 2010 (UTC)

License tagging for File:Lsumike.jpg
editThanks for uploading File:Lsumike.jpg. You don't seem to have indicated the license status of the image. Wikipedia uses a set of image copyright tags to indicate this information; to add a tag to the image, select the appropriate tag from this list, click on this link, then click "Edit this page" and add the tag to the image's description. If there doesn't seem to be a suitable tag, the image is probably not appropriate for use on Wikipedia.
For help in choosing the correct tag, or for any other questions, leave a message on Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Thank you for your cooperation. --ImageTaggingBot (talk) 08:05, 22 November 2010 (UTC)
Wikipedia Campus Ambassadors wanted at LSU
editHi! I'm leaving you this message because you indicated an association with Louisiana State University. The Wikipedia Ambassador Program is currently looking for Campus Ambassadors to help with Wikipedia assignments at LSU, which will be participating in the Public Policy Initiative for the Spring 2011 semester. The role of Campus Ambassadors will be to provide face-to-face training and support for students on Wikipedia-related skills (how to edit articles, how to add references, etc.). This includes doing in-class presentations, running workshops and labs, possibly holding office hours, and in general providing in-person mentorship for students.
Prior Wikipedia skills are not required for the role, as training will be provided for all Campus Ambassadors (although, of course, being an experienced editor is a plus).
If you live near Baton Rouge and you are interested in being a Wikipedia Campus Ambassador, or know someone else from the area who might be, please email me or leave a message on my talk page.--Sage Ross - Online Facilitator, Wikimedia Foundation (talk) 17:04, 6 December 2010 (UTC)
File copyright problem with File:TownInterior1.jpg
editThank you for uploading File:TownInterior1.jpg. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the file. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.
If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their license and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log.
If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks again for your cooperation. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 00:24, 9 January 2011 (UTC)
Your image uploads
editHi. You have uploaded a lot of photos to Wikipedia. Are these photos that you, personally, own the copyright to? I ask because File:Lsuaerial.jpg seems to be a retouched version of the second photo on this page, which the user there says were part of a photogrammetry project. Are you a part of this same team? In general, if photos are taken using college resources, the school owns the copyright. Do you, personally, hold the copyright for these photos? --B (talk) 02:46, 28 February 2011 (UTC)
B- thanks for catching this. The photos were taken for a college project but no college resources were used. That said, Nowhereman86 appears to have uploaded this to wikipedia without my knowledge nor permission. (Stuadms (talk) 08:02, 23 April 2012 (UTC))
Thank you for nominating Columbia University for a GA review. Unfortunately, there are so many unsourced statements that it would not be practical to put it on hold for you to correct. It is an important and interesting article and I hope that you renominate it when you have more footnotes. Thanks, Racepacket (talk) 01:22, 13 April 2011 (UTC)
Sidney Lumet
editNowhereman86, with regards to the alumni section, we are not to dispute who has more accomplishments because many notable alumni represented are notable. Instead, we are trying to represent alumni from all fields. If you feel compelled to just remove any alumnus who does not cater to your preference with respect to accomplishments/notability, it is not a valid reason to remove them and plaster the alumnus you feel more notable instead.
If you really feel that Sidney Lumet is notable, it is fine. However, you must agree that science alumni are not represented at all in the Columbia alumni section, and Columbia does have many great scientists/researchers. It is a notable research university after all, and not just a film/art school. Please provide me with an option/alternative to represent scientific alumni in the picture gallery. Otherwise, I will undo your change and start a column, so that other wiki editors can join in to decide on the matter. Thank you Zoroastrama100 (talk) 13:36, 21 April 2011 (UTC)

Pic Hamilton Hall
editExplain a valid reason for taking off the Hamilton Hall (which is the admissions residence)
Zoroastrama (talk) 18:50, 9 June 2011 (UTC)
These are not valid reason for taking down other editors' images, when it comes to formatting. Wikipedia does not have an established rules for formatting that unless complied warrants removal. If the image distorts the appearance of the article too much, then it is natural to remove such an image. The formatting mistake should be fixed; you can help as another wiki editor. It should not be the basis for removal. I think that there is no image more direct than plastering the image of the admissions office in the admissions section. The revision might not be what you like, but you are not the only wiki editor. It would be nonsensical if I remove your photo, because I find minute details that I do not like.
Thanks

LSU Aerial Imagery Source Origin
editThe file: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Lsuaerial.jpg states that you "created this work entirely by yourself" however, I am the original owner of the photograph and I would like that to be properly referenced.
I have updated the file to note my contribution.
Thank you!
File permission problem with File:Lsuaerial.jpg
editThanks for uploading File:Lsuaerial.jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file agreed to license it under the given license.
If you created this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either
- make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
- Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.
If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en wikimedia.org.
If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read the Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. GrapedApe (talk) 01:38, 10 June 2012 (UTC)

Copyright problem: Columbia University
editHello Nowhereman86! We welcome and appreciate your contributions, such as Columbia University, but we regretfully cannot accept copyrighted material from other websites or printed works. This article appears to contain work copied from http://siris-artinventories.si.edu/ipac20/ipac.jsp?profile=all&source=~!siartinventories&uri=full=3100001~!20526~!0#focus, and therefore to constitute a violation of Wikipedia's copyright policies. The copyrighted text has been or will soon be deleted. While we appreciate your contributions, copying content from other websites is unlawful and against Wikipedia's copyright policy. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously, and persistent violators are likely to lose their editing privileges.
If you believe that the article is not a copyright violation, or if you have permission from the copyright holder to release the content freely under license allowed by Wikipedia, then you should do one of the following:
- Have the author release the text under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 License (CC BY-SA 4.0) by leaving a message explaining the details at Talk:Columbia University and send an email with confirmation of permission to "permissions-en wikimedia.org". Make sure they quote the exact page name, Columbia University, in their email. See Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for instructions.
- If you hold the copyright to the work: send an e-mail from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en wikimedia.org or a postal message to the Wikimedia Foundation permitting re-use under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 License and GNU Free Documentation License, and note that you have done so on Talk:Columbia University. See Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials for instructions.
- If a note on the original website states that re-use is permitted "under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike License (CC BY-SA), version 4.0", or that the work is released into the public domain, or if you have strong reason to believe it is, leave a note at Talk:Columbia University with a link to where we can find that note or your explanation of why you believe the content is free for reuse.
It may also be necessary for the text to be modified to have an encyclopedic tone and to follow Wikipedia article layout. For more information on Wikipedia's policies, see Wikipedia's policies and guidelines.
See Wikipedia:Declaration of consent for all enquiries for a template of the permissions letter the copyright holder is expected to send.
Otherwise, you may rewrite this article from scratch. If you would like to begin working on a new version of the article you may do so at this temporary page. Leave a note at Talk:Columbia University saying you have done so and an administrator will move the new article into place once the issue is resolved.
Thank you, and please feel welcome to continue contributing to Wikipedia. Happy editing! ⸺RandomStaplers 05:13, 17 July 2024 (UTC)

editYour addition has been removed or altered, as it appears to closely paraphrase a copyrighted source. Limited close paraphrasing or quotation is appropriate within reason, so long as the material is clearly attributed in the text. However, longer paraphrases, especially if they are not attributed to their source, may constitute copyright violation or plagiarism, and are not acceptable on Wikipedia. Such content cannot be hosted here for legal reasons; please do not post it on any page, even if you plan to fix it later. You may use external websites or printed material as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words.
If you own the copyright to the text, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use it — which means allowing other people to modify it — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. If you are not the owner of the copyright but have permission from that owner, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing. Please stop violating copyright. If you violate copyright again, you could be blocked without further notice. Kolano123 (talk) 12:25, 9 November 2024 (UTC)
