Unreferenced BLPs

edit

Hello Oalexander-En! Thank you for your contributions. I am a bot alerting you that 2 of the articles that you created are tagged as Unreferenced Biographies of Living Persons. The biographies of living persons policy requires that all personal or potentially controversial information be sourced. In addition, to ensure verifiability, all biographies should be based on reliable sources. If you were to bring these articles up to standards, it would greatly help us with the current 139 article backlog. Once the articles are adequately referenced, please remove the {{unreferencedBLP}} tag. Here is the list:

  1. József Tóth (footballer born 1929) - Find sources: Google (books · news · scholar · free images · WP refs· FENS · JSTOR · TWL
  2. Herbert Wimmer - Find sources: Google (books · news · scholar · free images · WP refs· FENS · JSTOR · TWL

Proposed deletion of Gert Engels

edit

The article Gert Engels has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

No sources since creation in March 2008; notability therefore unclear.

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{dated prod}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Thanks for uploading File:MMathieu-EnDirect.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

Careless accusations

edit

For you to call this vandalism is not responsible. It is also unwise to casually label as a vandal an editor with 10-15 times as many edits as you. I agree that that info belongs in the article, but I agree with WWGB that it does not rise to sufficient importance to place in the rarified air of the lead. That is to be a summary of the most important points of the article. Your entry does not, in the opinion of at least two editors, belong there. HuskyHuskie (talk) 06:08, 24 June 2010 (UTC)Reply

First of all, I am not sure, what idea you would have about the number of my edits, secondly in which way would it matter? I consider it important. If somebody else thinks the content should be placed elsewhere, then please feel free to do so. Complete removal remains inappropriate - and I consider it vandalism. My opinion also has found one support. If there are further issues, the article talk should be the appropriate forum. Thank you for your attention. Oalexander-En (talk) 06:14, 24 June 2010 (UTC)Reply
I did not realize that the content was not located elsewhere in the article. That it is not (assuming you are correct) is another reason that it probably does not belong in the lead. I recommend that you read WP:LEAD, which explains both what the purpose of the lead section is and what is appropriate to place there. As a general rule (and there are some significant, longstanding exceptions), if it's not found below in the main body, then it doesn't go in the lead section. So, since you regard it as significant (and I agree), why don't you find an appropriate place in the article for that tidbit?
Next topic: What is "vandalism"? Vandalism is the intentional act of causing damage to the encyclopedia. But there are a great many times when we remove material from articles without it being "vandalism". Now, to your credit, the first time that WWGB removed it (without an edit summary), you termed his edit as "possible" vandalism. That was prudent, on your part. But then he removed it again, and he did give an explanation for his edit. Where you screwed up was in calling his edit vandalism at that point. Look, you have every right to disagree with another editor's reasoning. But if that editor is making edits with the sincere intent of making the article more in conformance with our overall goals here--and his intent was indicated by his edit summary--then you just don't call him a vandal. Especially someone who has been doing 10,000 edits a year for the past four years (as opposed to less than 1,000 a year by yourself). He's earned the right to have us at least give him the benefit of the doubt, and to be very careful with accusations of vandalism.
And since the violations of ettiquette here have been almost entirely your own, I think it would be up to you to now go to the talk page (a good idea you had there) to further discuss your disagreements. Happy editing! HuskyHuskie (talk) 06:31, 24 June 2010 (UTC)Reply

You have now violated WP:3RR. I shall report you in the next ten minutes if you do not voluntarily revert your revert, and the result of my report is that you shall be blocked. You really must learn to play by the rules. HuskyHuskie (talk) 06:37, 24 June 2010 (UTC)Reply

In the article there are several items in the "lead" which are not elsewhere in the article. I feel the content is important, in particular as the last Australian leaders generally expressed strong religious sentiments. Feel free to re-organise it so that it is up to standards. The removal of content, just due to its positioning is beyond questionable. Apart from all this, I would be quite glad, if you could avoid discussing the issue on a personal level, but stick to the subject matter so that this can be dealt with dispassionately. Should you wish to establish a case with regards to violation of "ettiquette " (sic) against me, feel free to take the necessary steps, else, I suppose your efforts are better purposed by resolving the issue in a matter suitable for all parties, rather then taking the position of on of the parties and peddling it to me.
If you feel you have to envolve yourself as partisan strongman, I will have to react appropriately to this. I have already suggested, that the issue should be dealt with on the article talk. Else, consider from where you count the RRs by whom. Thanks for your interest in this matter and best regards, Oalexander-En (talk) 06:48, 24 June 2010 (UTC)Reply
Replies:
  • In the article there are several items in the "lead" which are not elsewhere in the article. The fact that an article is imperfect in one regard does not justify failing to repair it in another regard. By that logic, nothing could be changed until someone crafted a 100% perfect article.
  • The removal of content, just due to its positioning is beyond questionable. I have no idea what this means. Could you rephrase it?
  • if you could avoid discussing the issue on a personal level I am at a loss to find where I have made this personal. Could you clarify?
  • I suppose your efforts are better purposed by resolving the issue in a matter suitable for all parties, rather then taking the position of on of the parties and peddling it to me Again, I am just totally confused by this.
  • If you feel you have to envolve yourself as partisan strongman, I will have to react appropriately to this. I don't know what makes you think that I see myself as a strong man (I'm just an editor who came across something on which I formed an opinion, like thousands of others around here), but by the latter part of that statement, are you subtly threatening me?
Given the fact that you sought a sympathetic ear, and found none, I think you should reconsider your stance. You need to take this to the talk page, because you don't appear to have anything resembling a consensus yet, and that is where you need to develop one. 1975 European Cup Final

edit

Hi, Nice work on this article, but do you know who Bayern's other sub was? I've been trying to find this for ages. ArtVandelay13 (talk) 14:37, 26 October 2010 (UTC)Reply

Somebody sends me cheerful news for a change. Thank you! I removed the article a bit from the POV Leeds sob-story level. Back then in the olden years there was not yet that much cult about substitutes and coaches. When you see the tv coverage from then, you realise, probably not a single camera focus on frowning, gesticulating and whatever coaches, or substitutes impatiently waiting for an injury to happen. What I since have done was moving the used Bayern subs to their correct numbers as seen on tv. If we then look at the list of Bayern subs, we notice that there is no spare defender. In 1974/75 these would have been the choices: Johnny Hansen, who was the standard right back in that season and then maybe injured (the WP article states without traceable reference: "Hansen followed the 1975 final from his sickbed"). Else he would have come for Andersson instead of the less experienced Sepp Weiss. The two other alternatives were Bernd Förster then aged 19, and the hardly ever used Günther Weiß then 20. A reasoning for the latter probably being on the bench would be, that he played in the last two Bundesliga matches of the season on 7th and 14th June, his only ever official matches for Bayern ("Bayern Bädas" Datenbank, fussballdaten.de). RSSSF actually carries Günther Weiß as substitute for Andersson, which has propagated a bit through the web, but is definitely wrong. A potential further alternative for the missing subs spot, the only other one, would be rarely used midfielder Franz Michelberger (19), which I deem very unlikely. My money therefore is on Günther Weiß. I inserted him with a question mark. If you are deeply interested on a personal level, click here.
Later I will also have a closer look at the 1876/St. Etienne final. Cheers, Oalexander-En (talk) 23:58, 26 October 2010 (UTC)Reply
Yes, it is almost impossible to find information about unused subs - I've managed to find it for a few finals, but with some I fear it wasn't recorded at all, and has just been forgotten. I'll see if those video clips shed any light though. ArtVandelay13 (talk) 10:55, 28 October 2010 (UTC)Reply
Nobody cared back then, probably rightfully so in most cases. The Video will not tell much more on this issue, but hopefully provide you with some amusement ;). Cheers, Oalexander-En (talk) 12:04, 28 October 2010 (UTC)Reply

Décio Esteves

This is an automated message from CorenSearchBot. I have performed a web search with the contents of Décio Esteves, and it appears to be a substantial copy of http://en.sambafoot.com/players/1321_Decio_Esteves.html.

It is possible that the bot is confused and found similarity where none actually exists. If that is the case, you can remove the tag from the article. The article will be reviewed to determine if there are any copyright issues.

If substantial content is duplicated and it is not public domain or available under a compatible license, it will be deleted. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material. You may use such publications as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. See our copyright policy for further details. CorenSearchBot (talk) 10:14, 18 December 2010 (UTC)Reply

Seems your bot is on the booze again! I thoroughly reject any accusations that even part of this article has not been created solely by myself! To boot, what would one want to copy from http://sambafoot.com/ ? They have statistics which get it wrong just too often to be considered reliable in any form. Oalexander-En (talk) 10:20, 18 December 2010 (UTC)Reply
PS
Since I have outlined on Talk:Décio_Esteves in detail the complete information available on the player and highlighted five substantial factual errors plus a number of substantial omissions on the topic on sambafoot.com. Pnly intellectual doorstops use sites like sambafoot.com and worldfootball.com as source. They are, at best, an indicator on where one might start research. Notification: changes to "Mark my edits as minor by default" preference

edit

Hello there. This is an automated message to tell you about the gradual phasing out of the preference entitled "Mark all edits minor by default", which you currently have (or very recently had) enabled.

On 13 March 2011, this preference was hidden from the user preferences screen as part of efforts to prevent its accidental misuse (consensus discussion). This had the effect of locking users in to their existing preference, which, in your case, was true. To complete the process, your preference will automatically be changed to false in the next few days. This does not require any intervention on your part and you will still be able to manually mark your edits as being minor in the usual way.

For established users such as yourself there is a workaround available involving custom JavaScript. With the script in place, you can continue with this functionality indefinitely (its use is governed by WP:MINOR). If you have any problems, feel free to drop me a note.

Thank you for your understanding and happy editing :) Editing on behalf of User:Jarry1250, LivingBot (talk) 18:24, 15 March 2011 (UTC)Reply

File source problem with File:Herrera.jpg

edit

Thank you for uploading File:Herrera.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, please add a link to the page from which it was taken, together with a brief restatement of the website's terms of use of its content. If the original copyright holder is a party unaffiliated with the website, that author should also be credited. Please add this information by editing the image description page.

If the necessary information is not added within the next days, the image will be deleted. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem.

Please refer to the image use policy to learn what images you can or cannot upload on Wikipedia. Please also check any other files you have uploaded to make sure they are correctly tagged. Here is a list of your uploads. If you have any questions or are in need of assistance please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Non-free rationale for File:Udo Lattek.jpg

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:Udo Lattek.jpg. Replaceable fair use File:SportparkUnterhaching.jpg

edit

Thanks for uploading File:SportparkUnterhaching.jpg. I noticed the description page specifies that the media is being used under a claim of fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first non-free content criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information or which could be adequately covered with text alone. If you believe this media is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the media description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

edit

Even if something is not referenced, providing it's not contentious information, it's best not to remove it without either making a proper search, or asking on the talk page. Cheers, Bretonbanquet (talk) 18:39, 26 October 2012 (UTC)Reply

If you cannot prove it, it is hearsay. If it is hearsay it has no place here. Where is the problem, which rules are you referring to? Apart from that, the whole article is extremely basic, and there is plenty of space to enhance it without resorting to hearsay. I advice however, that what Monteverdi sources (eg. Monteverdi Museum, the Gloor/Wagner book) have to say is rose coloured and would need second independent source. Cheers, Oalexander-En (talk) 19:02, 26 October 2012 (UTC)Reply
I am sure you can see the reference that I have provided, and I am going to assume you removed both the tables by accident. There are references to the German GP entry elsewhere on the internet, if you care to look. Neither of the other two points referenced are contentious, though you are right that further referencing is desirable. Bretonbanquet (talk) 23:32, 26 October 2012 (UTC)Reply

EC Pinheiros

edit

Hi, you have removed the infobox from Esporte Clube Pinheiros. Is there a strong reason for that? Otherwise I will bring it back, and expand it. Pedro 13:25, 10 October 2013 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Pcgomes (talkcontribs)

Oi Pedro. I suggest for one, that an infobox that contains nothing else than the information of the first three lines of the article is a waste of space and therefore unnecessary and even more so undesirable. I don't wish to appear impolite in any way, shape, or form. With all its current weaknesses, it was essentially me who has created the article. When I initially took it on, it looked like this. Other authors from this point forward have essentially not done much else, but fiddling with the basketball roster. Also many images are sourced and uploaded by myself → Commons-Category SC Germânia. I am currently essentially rewriting the article to a higher standard, also creating articles for related objects like Hermann Friese (where I also made some minor contributions to the PT version) and Hans Nobiling.
I would appreciate very much, if you allow me to develop the article as think it is best. If you have a strong interest in Brazilian sport and its history, there is much to do, much more than telling others how to do things, getting engaged in formalities, and that type of thing. I would find it an expression of respect for my contribution to this article, to allow me to carry it forward as I see fit. By that, I also can assure, that I will give due care to the Olympic contributions "do clube mais olímpico do Brasil."
In the context I am happy to express my appreciation for your efforts regarding Minas Tênis Clube. You state, it has about 75,000 sócios. Which makes it about 40,000 more than Pinheiros, for which it is claimed, that it is the largest sports club of the southern hemisphere. What do you suggest, I have to think about it?
Beyond this, I have very friendly associations with Minas Gerais. Flag and Coat of Arms of the state were created on my computer. Very friendly people. I once told an older gentlemen, that I originate from Munique. He immediately remembered Sepp Maier and we had some chopes. Funny, btw, when I heard that Ipatinga is now playing in Betim, I thought they were touring China. What I always wanted to know: does Minas Gerais just mean "general mines" or does the "gerais" mean something "like mines of the state" or so? In a way as one might translate the word "commons" maybe? I would be very glad, to occasionally ask you questions, maybe, when I am unsure to translate something correctly from Portuguese? My Portuguese is very lousy - unless I drink about eight beers, preferably more, then at least I think I speak it very well.
Else, what these info-boxes is concerned: I personally think, they are one of the worst introductions to WP. It gives people the idea, they are actually doing something useful, instead contributing to the mainstay of the information business, which is content. Density of information. Often those boxes are quite awful to maintain or correct - which is called bad design. Then comes, that there is no globally overarching design, like in climate tables, etc., which means efforts have to be replicated endlessly, again, and again, and again, and ... - at least in the Italian WP they look kind of pretty.
Else, it might not quite appear like that, I am very accessible to advice, assistance, etc. Obrigado e um abraço, Oalexander-En (talk) 04:39, 11 October 2013 (UTC)Reply

Northern Spirit

edit

Hi mate,

You wouldn't happen to still have the vector (ai or otherwise) of the Northern Spirit FC logo? I saw you were the uploader of it (way back in 2007) from the now-defunct hqfl.dk website. The Wayback Machine turned up deadlinks for the Spirit logo, although still working AI's for other old logos which was nice.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:NorthernSpiritFC.png

If you do still have it on your computer, would you be able to please upload it onto the page or send it to me via email? (I'll respond with my address if you have it). It's needed for a project myself and a few others are doing on vector kit history.

Cheers, Gibbsy 19:05, 2 November 2013‎

Hello Gibbsy, I would happen, and have uploaded an svg version here, and for safekeeping - one never knows what the masters of the WP-universe are up to - there is to be a copy on brandsoftheworld inside a few hours. If you prefer ai, I can mail that to you. Thanks for letting me know, that one actually could get some logos from the wayback hqfl site. This might come handy. Else, great memory, hqfl. Those were pioneers and it was great whilst it lasted. If I can help you in any other way, I shall be very happy to assist. Cheers, OAlexander (talk) 06:30, 4 November 2013 (UTC)Reply

Do something useful, und upgrade one of those gazillions of articles that have hardly any content. edit

Firstly, you should not have reverted me again per WP:BRD. Secondly, see Brazilian football league system#Current system. There are 4 national levels, and then under them there are 4 regional divisions. The league Mr Burkett was playing in sat in the top division of regional divisions, or the 5the 5th division. This was also confirmed by reliable sources. I see no justification at all for your edits here. GiantSnowman 16:07, 12 March 2014 (UTC)Reply

Talk to user User:Carioca - he is an administrator - about a fifth Brazilian division: there is no such thing, not even "regional divisions." I would know that. Sorriso EC plays on state level, the league of Mato Grosso, which is the dregs, where they have 150 lookers-on, if they are lucky, and that is it. Maybe, 1500 for the state final. What Burkett is concerned, he attracted attention as an *English* player in a Brazilian youth tournament, not because he was any good. Largely, he served to make up the numbers of the subs. You can do with your so-called "reliable sources" whatever you want: reliable are here CBF or rsssfbrasil.com. The rest is garbage. And please, don't tell me what to do and what not to do. If you don't see any "justification for my edits" complain to somebody who cares, or have an argument. OAlexander (talk) 16:28, 12 March 2014 (UTC)Reply
Why should I need to talk to an administrator? I am one as well. I hope you aren't threatening me. GiantSnowman 18:32, 12 March 2014 (UTC)Reply

License tagging for File:Martin Carlos Alarcon.jpg

edit

Thanks for uploading File:Martin Carlos Alarcon.jpg. You don't seem to have indicated the license status of the image. Wikipedia uses a set of image copyright tags to indicate this information.

To add a tag to the image, select the appropriate tag from this list, click on this link, then click "Edit this page" and add the tag to the image's description. If there doesn't seem to be a suitable tag, the image is probably not appropriate for use on Wikipedia. For help in choosing the correct tag, or for any other questions, leave a message on Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Soccer Bowl '80

edit

Why did you change the Fort Lauderdale Stikers' jersey? Every photo from the 1980 NASL championship match shows them wearing their classic Red and Yellow "bumble bee" hooped jersey. Moreover, I grew up in Florida and watched them play on many occasions before they moved to Minnesota in 1984 and I never ever saw them wear a Red and White hooped jersey. Unless you can produce a reference to justify your change, it needs to be reverted to red and yellow. Kind regards, Creativewill (talk) 03:11, 6 June 2014 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for uploading File:MeisterPokale.jpg.

This image is a derivative work, containing an "image within an image". Examples of such images would include a photograph of a sculpture, a scan of a magazine cover, or a screenshot of a computer game or movie. In each of these cases, the rights of the creator of the original image must be considered, as well as those of the creator of the derivative work.

While the image description page states the source and copyright status of the derivative work, it only names the creator of the original work without specifying the status of their copyright over the work.

Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the original image. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.

If you have uploaded other derivative works, consider checking that you have specified their license and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem. Thanks again for your cooperation. Kelly hi! 10:01, 9 October 2014 (UTC)Reply

Non-free rationale for File:Organizações Globo.png

edit

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:Organizações Globo.png. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under non-free content criteria, but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia is acceptable. Please go to the file description page, and edit it to include a non-free rationale.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified the non-free rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. First of all, I feel I aught to remind of the rules of civility. The tone and content of your comment are, quite frankly, unbecoming of an editor of your experience. Second, you would also do well to look into the issue in a little more detail before accusing me of misconduct. Much of Transfermarkt's content is user-generated, and the website has been abused in the past for the express purpose of adding incorrect information to Wikipedia. As such, it's considered a self-published source, and should not be cited in articles. (See this RSN discussion for a more detailed explanation.) Sir Sputnik (talk) 15:47, 9 May 2016 (UTC)Reply

Proposed deletion of File:Varig.png

edit

The file File:Varig.png has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Unused logo with no article used, it's also can't move to commons because of an unused logo will be deleted as of out of project scope.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated files}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the file's talk page.

Please consider addressing the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated files}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and files for discussion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Proposed deletion of Keith Walker (referee)

edit

The article Keith Walker (referee) has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

No evidence of notability found in a search. His playing career does not meet the requirements of WP:NFOOTBALL and nothing about his officiating career rises to passing WP:GNG; I failed to find anything more than passing mentions. There is a boxing referee from New Zealand of the same name who should not be confused with him.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist.
