Your user page
editHello, and welcome to Wikipedia. Your user page may not meet Wikipedia's user page guidelines. It is intended for basic information about yourself, your interests and goals as they relate to editing Wikipedia, as well as disclosures of conflicts of interest and paid editing. Although a lot of freedom is allowed in personalizing your user page, it is not:
- an encyclopedia article (and should not be styled to look like one)
- a workspace for a draft article
- a personal website, blog, or social media site
- a space for self-promotion or other advertising
- a CV, resumé or lengthy autobiography
The user page guidelines have additional information on what is and what is not considered acceptable content. Please use your user sandbox or the draft article space to practice editing or to create new articles. Thank you. -- Marchjuly (talk) 06:27, 1 December 2023 (UTC)
- Good Afternoon, thank you for your note. I would like to post a page about my father, Alexander Gordon, who is mentioned on other Wikipedia pages, ie "Kindertransport," "HMT Dunera," and "Into The Arms of Strangers." How else can I get his biographical information posted? Appreciate your help. Take care. OraGordon (talk) 18:11, 1 December 2023 (UTC)
- Hi OraGordon. Please take a look at Wikipedia:The answer to life, the universe, and everything and Wikipedia:What Wikipedia is not for some general information, but basically you're going to need to establish that your father satisfies Wikipedia:Notability to avoid anything written about him in any type of detail on Wikipedia being deleted. Wikipedia is, in principle, an encyclopedia and only those subjects deemed to be "Wikipedia notable" according to how it defines "notability" are considered acceptable to write about. Perhaps a sentence about your father on your user page would be acceptable per WP:UPYES, but anything that appears to be an attempt to write an encyclopedic article about him won't. If you feel your father does meet one of Wikipedia's notability guidelines, you can move (i.e. copy-and-paste) the content from your user page onto a draft page and then submit it for review to Wikipedia:Articles for creation when you think it's ready. Before doing that, however, you probably should also take a look at Wikipedia:Conflict of interest because it applies to your situation with respect to anything written about your father on Wikipedia. Anyway, the longer you leave your user page in its current state, the greater the chance it will be nominated for speedy deletion. So, you might want to consider moving the content to your user sandbox before that happens. You can then move it to a draft page if you decide to continue to try and create an article about your father. Finally, there might be alternatives to Wikipedia that are more suitable to doing what you seem to be trying to do. There is some information about some of these given in Wikipedia:Alternative outlets. -- Marchjuly (talk) 22:13, 1 December 2023 (UTC)
- Thank you very much for all the links I need to review. I will do so the week after next if I can't get to it this week. Thank you again. Take care, Ora OraGordon (talk) 21:07, 2 December 2023 (UTC)

- Hi. So, I just want to reiterate some details about this page I created about my father, Alexander Gordon, which has been swiftly declined. He happens to be one of the interviewed subjects in the Academy Award-winning film called "Into the Arms of Strangers." He represents the only individual who traveled on the HMT Dunera. So he was 1 of 2,000 men in the entire WORLD who was on that ship. Books were written about that horrible voyage. A movie was also made about it. A torpedo was shot by the Germans at it and it did NOT blow up. (Besides the fact that he was 1 of 10,000 children to be rescued during WW2 on a Kindertransport. He was also a soldier who translated German spoken by Nazis who had been arrested and were held at Esterwegen Camp.) In this day and age of high rates of antisemitism, records of noteworthy survivors such as his are more important than ever. I find it rather shocking that his story is not worthy of a page on your site. He was witness to horrible events during World War II. He was *NOT* a passing reference. I ask that you reconsider. Thank you for your time. -Ora Gordon OraGordon (talk) 04:48, 5 December 2023 (UTC)
- Hi Again,
- I wanted to point something out.
- My father is listed on this page: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kindertransport
- When you scroll down to "The Kindertransport Programme in the Media," listed under documentaries, in the third paragraph under "Into the Arms of Strangers," he is one of the notable people in the film. He is deserving of a Wikipedia page and I would like to know how to accomplish that.
- Thank you,
