using refs - using cites

Greetings

  1. Dema Deity (edit|talk|history|links|watch|logs) by Otelemuyen (talk · contribs) started at 22:22, 19 January 2011

May be full of amazing refs - but they are not linked to any of the text - there is no ontological self sufficiency in wikipedia articles - the less refs and more linked WP:RS that are used WP:CITE - makes a happier deity - and better wikipedia entry - SatuSuro 12:00, 23 January 2011 (UTC)

Merindilogun

Hi, I had to restore the Merindinlogun article to its previous state. This is the English language wikipedia, so that article must be about the divination only. Properties of the number 16 are in the 16 (number) article. Perhaps you were looking for the Wikipedia in Yoruba language http://yo.wikipedia.org/wiki/ ? All the best, --Jorge Stolfi (talk) 03:39, 24 January 2011 (UTC)np: your point has been noted. thanks for the link and i suppose you're right Otelemuyen talk 03:54, 24 January 2011 (UTC)

Compliments

I must say, you have done a nice job with your contributions to the Yoruba mythology and gods articles in the wikipedia. I could almost say that you are a Professor. Keep it up.

Thanks a million!, but i must stress, the credit is to be aimed at the collective effort of all great wikipedians and just as important the institution that is Wikipedia in its true form. Otelemuyen 16:51, 1 February 2011 (UTC)

File source problem with File:Yorubaland.jpg

Thank you for uploading File:Yorubaland.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, please add a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a brief restatement of that website's terms of use of its content. However, if the copyright holder is a party unaffiliated from the website's publisher, that copyright should also be acknowledged.

If you have uploaded other files, consider verifying that you have specified sources for those files as well. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged per Wikipedia's criteria for speedy deletion, F4. If the image is copyrighted and non-free, the image will be deleted 48 hours after 20:22, 1 February 2011 (UTC) per speedy deletion criterion F7. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem. If you have any questions or are in need of assistance please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. feydey (talk) 20:22, 1 February 2011 (UTC)

Making Yoruba history reliable

Yoruba history is no doubt a prolonged argument, especially when conducted publicly as here. Presenting or debating a continuous, usually chronological, record of important past events of the peoples' affairs as on (your?) pages related to Yoruba and their history does not only need a knowledgeable or general approach of assessment as a subject. But, it also needs a formal and critical inspection to enrich its undisputed origin or authenticity. History of the Yoruba people, who have gone through several phases of changes is only richer if questioned and proven, especially in light of their embracement of Islam and Christianity (both often described as foreign religions perhaps with bias and/or out of ignorance). However, enrichment of Yoruba history is becoming more and more neglected as many knowledgeable native Yoruba Muslims and Christians avoid pluralizing (or 'polluting') their faiths with Yoruba traditions that they rightly or wrongly see as paganism.

Therefore, it is important to make available academic and professional positions or expressions that contain analytical evaluation in works of the few Yoruba scholars of Islam and Christianity that take Yoruba subjects serious. Because Awqaf Africa Society in London and their publications represent the ONLY Yoruba Muslim institutional reference available to the media, citations from their literatures and portals like EsinIslam.com, the only native Yoruba Islamic site yet available, fulfill the need to enrich Yoruba history with related alternative accounts. I must, nevertheless, congratulate you on your dedications to informing the mass about the great people of Yorubaland. It's nice having people like you around.Johnjofe (talk) 06:20, 11 February 2011 (UTC)

Thankyou for your special contibutions regarding the Yoruba muslims alternate view on Oduduwa. The importance of critical thinking is often under-rated; however, articles conform to the standards that include accurate links that are meant to provide relative information on their respective material. As in:

The letter A is the first letter in the basic modern Latin alphabet[1].

For more information about how to properly cite articles please take the time to read and become familiar with WP:NN and WP:Cite. Good luck.

Wole Soyinka article assessment

Hi. I notice that you gave the Soyinka article different class-assessments for each project; I thought that articles had only one class assessment for all their various projects, as seen at Wikipedia:Version 1.0 Editorial Team/Assessment. Is there a different criteria for the Yoruba project than for the others? Thanks, Aristophanes68 (talk) 21:42, 8 March 2011 (UTC)

Hi, the criteria is the same as per usual Wikipedia:1.0/A. Thanks for pointing this out. Otelemuyen 22:09, 8 March 2011 (UTC)

Babalawo

Hi Otelemuyen..:-)

When you get a chance could you take a look at the Babalawo page as well as my discussion...THANKS ! Cubaking (talk) 09:59, 31 March 2011 (UTC)

Hi Cubaking Thanks for your bringing this up, thanks to the good faith editors of this article for contributing to Wikipedia and for the good faith editors aiming for common improvement. I would think improvement is one thing the article does neeeds to meet Wikipedia:Standards. There can be a genuine good faith disagreement as to how best treat this subject in keeping with Wikipedia:Guidelines. In my opinion one way to present a contrary view to an article is by using the tool Sandbox

If you have a username, you can create your own sandbox in your userspace. You can find your user sandbox here. (And if it doesn't exist yet, feel free to create it!)

Use your Sandbox to implore accurate citation in the areas that you deem to be of neeed i suspect if the content meets the criteria mentioned earlier it will be included. Goodluck Otelemuyen (talk) 18:44, 31 March 2011 (UTC)

New page incubation

Thanks for signing up for the new pages incubation trial! The instructions are on the page itself - any questions or quibbles before you get started? Ironholds (talk) 19:27, 10 April 2011 (UTC)

Thanks, just incubated first article. Otelemuyen 23:23, 10 April 2011 (UTC)

Brilliant, thanks; just an FYI, remember - these are utter newbies. It helps if you say not only "you need to show it is notable" but explain what constitutes "notability". Ironholds (talk) 23:32, 10 April 2011 (UTC)

Capricorn FM

hey how are you? that article is not a spasm it is a genuine article and it is solely for academic uses and a contribution to Wikipedia, and l would like it back please, thank you! Meli Ncube (talk) 10:06, 11 April 2011 (UTC)Meli Ncube

Hi Meli Ncube, Thank you for your response, I've moved this to Wikipedia:Article Incubator/Capricorn FM for you. From here the article may be worked on to meet inclusion/content criteria.
Now, the main problem is that it looked like advertising. Wikipedia maintains a "neutral point of view"; we try to avoid, at all times, appearing biased or using subjective language. This is the thing that needs to be corrected.
The standard requirement for inclusion/content is to show that there are multiple reliable sources (newspapers, books, that sort of thing) covering Capricorn FM; these were the issues raised during the deletion process - once it is, I'm happy to move the article back to its original location where everyone can see it.
Tell me if you need any help finding them or formatting the references or have any other general questions relating to improving the article. Goodluck! Otelemuyen 11:22, 10 April 2011 (UTC).

Help on Capricorn FM

Thank you for your response, l will be very happy if you can assist me with some references and some other useful information. As l mentioned earlier this article is for both academic and a general contribution to Wikipedia, so all other relevant information is welcome please! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Meli Ncube (talkcontribs) 11:16, 12 April 2011 (UTC)

I will see what we can do, meanwhile keep researching. Goodluck! Otelemuyen 11:22, 10 April 2011 (UTC).
I've recently made some changes to the article but would suggest you fill in the gaps where necessary. My opinion is that you should be looking to add:
  • A list of presenters here: Overview
  • Expand on History
  • Introduce into the article a representive timetable of aired programes
  • Find a suitable logo (please do not upload any logo without my consent, apart from the fact that image files are not meant for incubator space, all media content on Wikipedia has to pass through copyright procedure.) and post the external link to your findings here, i will check if it complies or not and if i cant be sure will seek Wikimedia Commons opinion (Wikimedia Commons itself does not allow fair use or uploads under non-free licenses, including licenses which restrict commercial use of materials or disallow derivative works. Licenses that are acceptable include the GNU Free Documentation License, Creative Commons Attribution and Attribution/ShareAlike licenses). For more information on the above check Wikimedia Commons
  • Who is(are) the owner of the radio station? This would be also an important piece of information you might want to include here: Ownership.
I'm not going to be online for a few days, when i get back will continue from where you have reached. Meanwhile, if you get stuck message me (or send me an email); i will still be able to respond if not for a minute or two. Goodluck and happy editing! Otelemuyen 16:28, 12 April 2011 (UTC).

Capricorn FM

Dear Otelemuyen, l have since moved the article online as there was growing interest from my peers to also edit the article, l hope you do not mind. Please be rest assured that it is still a work in progress, after all no article is ever finished on Wikipedia, thank you for your assistance and continued support! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Meli Ncube (talkcontribs) 14:08, 14 April 2011 (UTC)

It's procedurally difficult; essentially you've left a redirect from the Incubator (which could have undergone process by now) to an article that has previously been deleted. Wikipedia's process of incubation doesnt stop editors from improving candidate articles in accordance to Wikipedia's standards of quality and inclusion. I'd much prefer we let the process run its course, keep the article as it is; improve on it and let the Incubation continue. Moving, to me, suggest that you think this article has less or zero chance of passing independent assessment. Is this the case? Otelemuyen 14:57, 16 April 2011 (UTC).

Capricorn FM

Hey there Otelemuyen, l am sorry but as l previously pointed pout the article was part of an assessment which is due to be marked anytime soon. In regards to this l had no alternative but to to make sure it is online so as for me to be marked, because you have given me a reason l will proceed to advance it to my assessors and await their verdict, then l will get back to you, thank you! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Meli Ncube (talkcontribs) 10:01, 18 April 2011 (UTC)

Capricorn FM

Hello there, l was hopping you could assist me further with the article if you don't mind especially with the image thing and other relevent information that would enable it to be removed from the incubator so that it can be online a.s.a.p.

Orphaned non-free media (File:Capricomfm300.png)

Thanks for uploading File:Capricomfm300.png. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Melesse (talk) 05:03, 21 April 2011 (UTC)

Responding to RFCs

Remember that RFCs are part of Dispute Resolution and at times may take place in a heated environment. Please take a look at the relevant RFC page before responding and be sure that you are willing and able to enter that environment and contribute to making the discussion a calm and productive one focussed on the content issue at hand. See also Wikipedia:Requests for comment#Suggestions for responding.
