editAh, how wonderful :). Glad to hear you are such a committed member. This happens sometimes, I think someone is new but they are not. I hope you don't mind the links and greeting, and glad to see you help in so many ways. Cheers, Sam [Spade] 15:54, 12 Jul 2004 (UTC)
- No of cause not! I like your link collection. Because it is different from mine ;-) --Paddyez 22:39, 12 Jul 2004 (UTC)
- I'd like to see your list! I've been thinking about editing the german wiki once my german reaches the level where I'd feel comfortable. I think inter-wiki is very important way to share info (and perfect ones linguistic skils ;) ! Cheers, Sam [Spade] 22:51, 12 Jul 2004 (UTC)
- It is mostly about meeting people in Germany. Social stuff like meeting in Hannover. And meetings for me it is the most important component for WP. And did you know about <div class="townBox"> </div> and Prague in german? The best link for social stuff is Meatball Wiki. There is a lot more to know but ist is very difficult to have a plain link installation cause the WP changes so much.

Image changes
editI noticed you are changing a lot of images. Any particular reason? Most of them don't look any different to me, except the one in pronghorn, which doesn't look as good and has a deprecated name. --Yath 21:30, 12 August 2005 (UTC)
- They should be the same or better. I am cleaning up category redundant on commons that is why. Before deleting them I have to make shure there are no used images left in the projects. greetings --Paddyez 21:59, 12 August 2005 (UTC)
- Ok. I think the previous image image:pronghorns.jpg is superior to its replacement, do you mind if I put it back? --Yath 22:12, 12 August 2005 (UTC)
- If you change all the other wikipedias that use the other image with the other name yes ;-) No, seriously my criteriy is the usage, the file quality, the file name, etc. after that I decide which to use. Of cause I will use the one with the better name if possibe but if the resolution is better or if I have to change 100 of the first name and just 2 with the second I do not so much mind the name. --Paddyez 22:29, 12 August 2005 (UTC)

photo edit
editIn your edit to Wikipedia:In the news section on the Main Page/Candidates/Archive 3, you created a broken image link from a good one. Besides that, as an archive of past actions and discussion, it's not supposed to be improved. Thanks, BanyanTree 14:22, 15 August 2005 (UTC)
- Sorry, but the other other image will be removed in one months time on commons. So what do we do? --Paddyez 15:14, 15 August 2005 (UTC)
- Hmmm... that's a bit more complicated, but I'm not that concerned about it. I would just let it become redlinked so it is clear what the initial poster had suggested. The title of the redlinked image would clearly indicate to archive readers what was intended. Cheers, BanyanTree 17:18, 15 August 2005 (UTC)
Removed images
editHi, there... I see you removed links to logos on Karlovačka pivovara, Panonska pivovara and Pan pivo pages, so I presume you are the person that removed the logos from Wikipedia Commons in the first place. Now, I'd like to know: 1. how you removed the images and 2. why removed images if I stated I'll move them to Wikipedia as soon I discover how to remove them from Commons? --Dijxtra 12:38, 22 August 2005 (UTC)
- Cite: commons:Commons:Licensing#Acceptable licenses: "Specifically, the following are generally not allowed: ... Trademarked symbols, logos, etc"' So I had to delete them. greetings --Paddyez 14:12, 22 August 2005 (UTC)
- Let me repeat my question: why did you remove images if I stated I'll move them to Wikipedia as soon I discover how to remove them from Commons (and I'm sure you're aware that logos are allowed at Wikipedia)? And, the other one: how did you remove the images (I'd like to know that so I can remove my own images that are wrongly placed in Commons)? Thanks in advance :-) --Dijxtra 15:35, 22 August 2005 (UTC)
- Sorry I think I must have missunderstood you twice. First of all I understood the request on commons as a please delete this image so I can upload it on en. Sorry for this missunderstanding. In order to delete you need admin/sysop permissions on a project. Logos may be allowed on the en WP?! But on commons, de and other projects they are not if they are non free. greetings --Paddyez 17:15, 22 August 2005 (UTC)
- No problem. So, what you are saying is, if I upload an image to Commons, I cannot delete it? Wierd. If that's so, thanks for deleting my images. BTW, for policies on using logos at en Wikipedia see Template:Logo (there it says logos are allowed if fairly used...). bye, Dijxtra 17:44, 22 August 2005 (UTC)

More removed images
editHi, you removed images from
de:Nguyen Loc
en:Nguyen Loc
de:Le Sang
en:Le Sang
and simply stated "(c) violations".
I spent about half a night trying to find a suitable licence for those images.
Therefore I'd find it helpful to know what exactly I did wrong. I can then prevent that error in the future.
Thomas 21:16, 8 October 2005 (UTC)
- Was that on commons or en? Best thing is to put a clear statement in the article why you put a ©-vio tag in the Image page. If I only get delete or copivio and no comment it is hard to judge and costs me a lot of time and research on commons. But in the end I make a judgement. If I am unsure I ask. If I read though give me a weeks time to check than I will definitely not delete. --Paddyez 22:55, 8 October 2005 (UTC)
- You are right: it is best to put a clear statement to detail the (c)-vio comment.
- You removed the pictures from commons, thus removing them from en and de. I cite: "(diff) (hist) . . Nguyen Loc; 15:03 . . Paddyez (Talk) (©-vio on commons)" and "(diff) (hist) . . Le Sang; 13:38 . . Paddyez (Talk) (©-vio on commons)" . So, perhaps you can still remember what kind of copyright violation that was ? It is important for me to know because I received an explicite "OK" from the webmaster I copied those images from. I re-read some of the information pages on commons and de about copyright. I could not find any information on what I have to do different. Therefore I think about simply re-uploading these images. Thomas
- I deleted about 4000 images in the past week I guess so no idea. Best thing is you upload the images again and leave me a note on my commons talk page and I have a look. I am commons:User:Paddy. greetings. --Paddyez 17:24, 9 October 2005 (UTC)
- How come you delete so many images in such a short time ? Sounds not like random deleting but as something like "mass-production". ;) Thomas 21:13, 11 October 2005 (UTC)

Why do you change images?
editI noticed that is some articles you change Image:Missing_coat_of_arms.png to Image:Wappen fehlt.jpg. Is there a particular reason for that? Just asking, Renata3 13:07, 10 November 2005 (UTC)
- It is the same Image. There does not have to be a double. They are ridiculus anyway because everybody can see that the coa is missing. They basically just cause unnecessary traffic making WP slow with redundant traffic. greetingts. --Paddyez 14:57, 10 November 2005 (UTC)
Hurricane Hugo Image
editMy use of that image complied fully with UNISYS (where the image came from) copyright policy. See here: [1]. Therefore no law was broken by my use of it.
- "Authorization is hereby provided to you to copy documents published by Unisys Corporation on the World Wide Web provided such copies are used for non-commercial purposes and solely for use within your organization. This authorization is specifically conditioned upon including all legends, copyright, proprietary and other notices which appear herein on all copies you make of such documents whether they pertain to Unisys Corporation or another party."
I complied fully with that, I don't see what the problem is. I spent a lot of time hovering over that policy and even ran it by an admin, who saw no problem with it. Comments? -- Hurricane Eric - my dropsonde - archive 01:36, 29 November 2005 (UTC)
Summary
This is a satellite image of Hurricane Hugo as a Category 5. The original copyright data is unknown but was probably under NOAA's free licence policy. The direct source is UNISYS tropical weather data [1], which is copyrighted. However, this use qualifies as fair use under the UNISY's copyright policy.

As I see it you requested the deletion yourself. Fair use or none commercial material is not allowed on the commons. greetings --Paddyez 17:08, 29 November 2005 (UTC)
And one more removed image
editI have reverted your edit on Soledad Miranda. The picture on that article is a screenshot from a movie. See the licensing info on that picture's info page for more info. (Entheta 21:09, 27 December 2005 (UTC))
