GA issue
editHello, I thought to come to you for advice on a recently passed Good Article, as you have experience in reviewing good articles on a variety of subjects. As I was looking over Kuala Lumpur for minor fixes, I noticed a few problems with the article. Then I noticed a few more and on a full read-through, more yet.
I do not wish to create ill feelings by kicking up a fuss on the talk page or unilaterally pursuing a reassessment. I am not a reviewer myself and the chance of a mistake on my part is certainly real. Perhaps I am being overly critical since I also make minor edits on Featured Articles, a task which may have inflated my expectations for Good Articles. But I don't think so. There are fundamental content problems in the article, to the point where I ask if you could make time to look at Kuala Lumpur yourself. You would make an admirable check against unrealistic expectations.
Let me make clear that I do not think there is anything in the article which several detailed copyedit and sentence reworking sessions could not clear up (though more extensive than I can offer). The article is very well-cited and the content appears to meets all GA criteria other than "reasonably well written". However, I cannot see how the article passes criteria 1 in its present condition, especially beyond the first sections.
To be more specific, in addition to many awkwardly phrased sentences, there are a number of sentences which are grammatically incorrect. For example, here is a sampling of broken sentences found in a quick read-through:
- The city has many places of worship catered for the multi-religious population.
- The Kuala Lumpur Performing Arts Centre (KLPac) in Sentul West is one of the most established centre for the performing arts, notably theatre, music, and film screening, in the country.
- Despite cities around Asia are suffering declining tourist arrivals, Kuala Lumpur tourist arrivals increased from 6,210,900 in 1997 to 10,221,600 in 2000, or 64.6% increase in tourist arrivals.
- The Hong Kong office of Channel V International, an international music channel, relocate its programme production unit in Kuala Lumpur by appointing the local company Double Vision Sdn Bhd.
- Despite efforts to promote usage of public transportation, utilisation rates are low as only 16 percent of the population uses public transportation in 2006.
Of course I can fix most of these examples myself, though I might have to guess at the wording intent on one or two. But the underlying content fault remains.
Should you have the time to look this over, I would appreciate your feedback, particularly if the fault is with my understanding of "reasonably well written". Would a suggestion on the talk page that the primary editor(s) invite one of the heavy-hitter copyeditors to help out with content issues suffice? I have no wish to unduly burden the hard-working editors who create quality articles, nor those who might have fallen a bit short of that goal. -- Michael Devore (talk) 04:38, 11 January 2009 (UTC)
- The issues there are some that would be picked up on (or should be) in a GA review, so in terms of quality you're fine. I think a note on the talk page, combined with you fixing any issues you have time to look at, would be the best way forward - GAR is backlogged and no fun. I don't have the time/patience to fully look at the article now (burned out by the reviewing I've been doing lately), but I would suggest that you start with a note on the talk page, and perhaps contact a few copyeditors yourself to try and help out.
- Thanks. Guess I'll post on the talk page that I see more errors and will try to fix them as time permits, inviting others to do likewise. -- Michael Devore (talk) 23:18, 11 January 2009 (UTC)
Re: Re: Wikimania '09
editWow, that's pretty awesome! I was feeling a bit alone, but it's good to know there is a bit of support from the community for this =).
If you're talking about the Wikimediaau list, then yes, I'm on it. I like to keep my real name off of here, but I'm the person who's first name starts with "C" and last name with "F". I'll probably bother everyone on the list with a discussion of where we're at once the jury is announced, but I get the impression a lot of people are lukewarm about the idea, so I don't want to get too into their face.
I should bother you on WLM sometime? Lankiveil (talk) 12:40, 11 January 2009 (UTC).
- Awesome. Sorry I buggered off so quickly; unfortunately as I've gotten older Saturday has become "clean apartment" day =(, and you didn't seem to be on. Lankiveil (talk) 13:09, 12 January 2009 (UTC).
Just letting you know, a couple of people got pissed at your comment. Burningclean [Speak the truth!] 01:58, 12 January 2009 (UTC)
- Thanks (and thanks for the GA review too). Peppi35 (talk) 04:13, 12 January 2009 (UTC)
- Could you comment again? This guy is really being ignorent. He is the only guy holding it back from being promoted, and he won't read the rest of the discussion. Burningclean [Speak the truth!] 19:13, 12 January 2009 (UTC)
- Look, I must say, his points do have some merit, and it might be better for everyone if you tried to address them as best you could, or else let the FAC go, rather than arguing with him (especially in ALL CAPS...) - if it fails, just give it a while and go for it again, there's nothing against that.

- I don't know what to do though, I have stated my reasons for not doing what he wants numerous times. They were a band that was popular before the internet was, so there is not much about what happened between albums. Just about all information on the web is directed toward Layne Staley, and there are no books published on the band. If I can't add that information does that just mean I will have to settle for a very good GA? I don't know what else to add to the article. Woo, this sucks, I really hope Opeth does better when I am done with it. Burningclean [Speak the truth!] 03:50, 13 January 2009 (UTC)
I left a whopper of a message on the FAC. —Burningclean [Speak the truth!] 06:31, 13 January 2009 (UTC)
Nobody Sees
editHey Mate, can you have a glance over at NS? I've tried to add some stuff, but have to look after my boy. I can't find any other reviews, but I'm sure you can find something I'm missing here. I've kind of just thrown the DDatHE review which comments on it, but other than that, it needs more work. Plus, the song meaning info should be expanded too. Anyway, I'll leave that to you as I head off. Cheers! --rm 'w avu 04:27, 12 January 2009 (UTC)
- Oh and, fantastic work on Black Tears! We just need to get NS to GA and IDR to FA and we're right to start on the FT for Dream days. Woot! --rm 'w avu 04:29, 12 January 2009 (UTC)
- Will do - this is a nice touch, and I'm sure a few other reviews would have touched it - just need to check my (excessively large, today) watchlist. Cheers,
Connie Talbot (again)
editHi, you recently reviewed this and passed it as a GA. First of all, we have managed to get hold of some free images, which was something you reccomended. However, I am contacting you because I was wondering if you could offer a third opinion on a dispute between myself and another editor on the inclusion of an external link, as you have some familiarity with the article. The dispute is on the talk page can be found here. If you have no opinion or do not wish to get involved, then that is no problem. Thanks. J Milburn (talk) 12:18, 12 January 2008 (UTC)
- Chimed in there.
- Thanks. J Milburn (talk) 13:25, 13 January 2009 (UTC)
Hey there,
I noticed you're on the list for Wikipedia:WikiProject Romania. You still interested in Romania-related topics? At WP:EH, we're doing a collaboration on Transylvania. Any input you might have would be more than welcome.
Cheers, and see ya around. - Revolving Bugbear 13:53, 12 January 2009 (UTC)
- Sorry mate - all I know about Transylvania is that I'm a vampire from there (mental note: don't trust real life friends). Hook me up if you're ever writing about Bucharest though. Peppi35 (talk) 22:20, 12 January 2009 (UTC)

Welcome
editThank you for your welcome! Do you know what canvassing is? What if some convasses. Should they be blocked? No? Yes? If yes, how long? I have seen an incident of canvassing. The guy was blocked for 1 month. Seems a bit long. Cfufu (talk) 02:25, 21 March 2009 (UTC)
- Yes, I know what canvassing is. I don't think they should be blocked per se, although it may be appropriate for a short amount of time in extreme circumstances. I can give an opinion on this if you show me the instance you're referring to. Peppi35 (talk) 02:27, 22 March 2009 (UTC)
Can you pass this now? Do reply on its talk page. Vikrant 13:20, 17 April 2009 (UTC)

Motto of the day
editHello, I notice you're using one of the {{motd}} templates, run by Wikipedia:Motto of the day. You may have noticed that some of the mottos recently have been followed by a date from 2006, or on occasion simply "Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia". The reason for this is that Motto of the day is in some very serious need of help. Participation in the project, which has never been especially high, has dropped considerably over this past summer, to the point we have had several days where no motto was scheduled to appear at all. Over the past several weeks, I've been the only editor scheduling mottos at all, but there aren't enough comments on some of these mottos to justify their use. If we do not get some help - and soon - your daily mottos will stop. In order for us to continue updating these templates for you, we need your help.
When you get a chance between your normal editing, could you stop by our nominations page and leave a few comments on some of the mottos there, especially those that do not have any comments yet? This works very simply; you read a motto, decide whether or not you like it, and post your opinion just below the motto. That's it - no experience required, just an idea of what you personally like and what you feel reflects Wikipedia and its community. If you do have past experience with the project, then please close some of the older nominations once they've got a decent consensus going. There are directions on the nominations page on how to do this.
If you have any questions, please let me know, or post on the project's talk page. I'm looking forward to reading your comments on the suggested mottos, and any additional suggestions you'd like to make. Until then, happy editing! Hersfold (t/a/c) 03:37, 4 September 2009 (UTC)
Xtabi Hotel
editHello, I noticed you deleted the information about Xtabi Hotel. I had started this page with more historical content, but was unable to find verifiable information about the hotel. Once I find some accurate data I would like to continue the article about the Xtabi hotel. Can you offer any suggestions? Banjoman1 (talk) 17:10, 16 October 2009 (UTC)
Sorry mate, you're on your own on this one. It is very difficult, if not impossible, to get listings for hotels and restaurants posted on Wikipedia. The Wikipedia community frowns on blatant advertising. You may have had good intentions regarding the Xtabi hotel, but it is not noteworthy as an encyclopedic reference. DYK nomination of James Phillippo
editHello! Your submission of James Phillippo at the Did You Know nominations page has been reviewed, and there still are some issues that may need to be clarified. Please review the comment(s) underneath your nomination's entry and respond there as soon as possible. Thank you for contributing to Did You Know! Yoninah (talk) 21:53, 19 September 2010 (UTC)
MOTDs (This space for rent)
editYou may have noticed over the past few days that the MOTD that you link to on your user page has simply displayed a red link. This is due to the fact that not enough people are reviewing pending MOTDs here. Please help us keep the MOTD template alive and simply go and review a few of the MOTDs in the list. That way we can have a real MOTD in the future rather than re-using (This space for rent). Any help would be appreciated! –pjoef (talk • contribs) 12:33, 7 March 2012 (UTC)
