Hi, I started reverting the changes you reverted, but I think this could lead to some hostility if we keep reverting changes to the pages. I suggest we instead discuss it on Talk:Dance Dance Revolution. Thanks.

Redundant Gameplay info on DDR pages

Hey, I'm thinking that sometime in the future, we should compress the Gameplay sections of the individual DDR game articles. Basic gameplay that is universal to all DDR games can be merged into the Gameplay section of the main DDR article, and the individual games can instead focus on their specific differences and new features. Conversely, all the info on the main DDR article that relates to specific games can be moved to the correct articles. This would include the Notable songs section which seems out-of-place on the main page. I was also thinking of adding song lists for each mix as subpages (Dance Dance Revolution 2ndMIX/Song list). Not a bad idea. Only the scoring really changes from mix to mix (1st-4th, then 5th, then MAX, then MAX2/Extreme, Ultramix, Extreme US, and Ultramix 2. And I agree about the Notable song list. In the main page, it's heavily MAX-weighted. --Kitch 16:25, 16 Feb 2005 (UTC)

Extra stages

Quick note: Japanese versions of DDR (arcade and home) all use the text "One More Extra Stage" after AAing Extra Stage, and then display the text "Extra Stage" (in white text instead of red) on the black screen after selecting the song.

Only the US PS2 (and perhaps Xbox?) versions use the name "Another Extra Stage", and I'm not sure what it displays after selecting the song.

Incidentally, there is a "Special Stage" graphic that has been found on the MAX/MAX2/EX game discs; this graphic is never used in the game. There are also several announcer files never used in DDR (such as "Press the 2 Player start button!"). --Poiuytman 18:19, 25 Feb 2005 (UTC)

Ahh, okay. I don't think "I won't forget you." has ever been used, either. As for Xbox, they don't even have an arcade mode, so they don't have extra stages. You just keep choosing songs and playing, and if you fail one, it just takes you back to the song select screen. --Kitch 19:28, 25 Feb 2005 (UTC)

DDR Solo Mixes

How about merging Solo Bass and 2000 into one page (Dance Dance Revolution Solo)? Other than the interface upgrade, there aren't really any other improvements between Bass and 2000. Solo 2000 even has all the songs from the previous game. As for Solo 4th and 4th+, they can be briefly mentioned on the page, as well as the 4th Mix page, since they are almost identical to the 4th Mix games other than 6-panel mode replacing Double mode.

I'll see if I can expand the Interface and Graphics section. There's a Solo 2000 in town, but I haven't played it in a while. I haven't personally played on a Solo Bass, so I've only seen the interface in screenshots. However, I do know that Solo Bass has a hardware bug which prevents three arrow panels from registering at the same time. This is problematic if, for example, one foot is standing on both Left and Up-Left, and tries to hit Down. This is fixed in the other Solo mixes, and a handful of songs even have four-panel jumps as their last step (L, R, UL and UR). --Poiuytman 11:11, 27 Feb 2005 (UTC)

Pop'N Music a kid's game?

Song list tables

Any criticisms of the song list revamp? I added the gridlines to make the difficulties easier to distinguish, since they're now compressed on the right side. And did I go too far renaming the section titles in DDR Extreme to the exact titles (including the Japanese Home Version text)? Actually, I just found the Japanese symbols on the official Konami site, and copied them into the text editor. Wikipedia automatically converts them into code. --Poiuytman 23:13, 1 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Supplementary mixes.

Do you think 2nd Mix Link Ver, 3rd Mix Plus, 4th Mix Plus should get their own song lists? I was just about to add the new Link Version songs to the 2nd Mix list, but I realized they also belong to the Normal mode and Hard mode sections. It also removes Trip Machine Luv Mix, so I don't know how to neatly incorporate that into the existing 2nd Mix list. --Poiuytman 19:23, 4 Mar 2005 (UTC)

• That's the only one with that problem. 3rd Mix and 4th Mix just add songs in their plus versions. Do what I did with 3rd Mix: Just note that Trip Machine Luv isn't in Link Ver. --Kitch 12:59, 25 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Vandalism of user pages

Vandalism is an annoyance, and an increasingly inevitable one, but our preferred response has been to revert and ignore -- virtually all vandals take one or two pot shots and move on. The protection of user pages has been discussed a few times, but we generally feel that it's better to use the nature of the wiki, the soft security approach, than to use harder security that just tempts the vandals to test the system. A user page is generally only protected if it's subjected to continuous disruptive attack, and even then the protection will probably be removed again in a few days or weeks.

I'm sorry that you were exposed to an image that may have been distasteful to you; it makes it harder to shrug it off and move on when the vandals work so hard to shock and offend. Please try to ignore their attempts to bait you, and we will continue to try to find solutions that don't cripple the openness that made this project possible. PlayStation abbreviation

According to the PlayStation article, PSone is the name of the re-released smaller version of the console. The older version is abbreviated PS1 or PSOne. I say we just use "PlayStation" in the DDR articles and avoid the acronyms. --Poiuyt Man ^talk 20:16, 24 May 2005 (UTC)

• I've never ever seen PS1 used in connection with the old machine, officially or not. Before PS2, it was always abbreviated to PSX, for its pre-naming codename. It was redesigned right as PS2 was released, and I've only seen PSone used as its abbreviation. --Kitch 13:24, 25 May 2005 (UTC)

That's funny, I've only seen it as PS1. "PS1 PlayStation" gets 20,300,000 hits on Google, while "PSone PlayStation" only gets 1,180,000. As I said before, it's not relevant, since it's not the job of a DDR article to explain the acronyms of the PlayStation. Especially when the link to PlayStation is right there.

According to the PlayStation article, the official abbreviation for the PlayStation is PS1 or PSone (I tend to use PS1 for the original or both, PSone for the redesign.) PSX would refer to the PSX, a luxury PS2/PVR released only in Japan. --Wulf 19:13, 13 March 2006 (UTC)

Switched Almost/Boo on US Mix?

Hey, I know I've seen one of the US mixes (I believe either DDRMAX or DDRMAX2) that has Almost and Boo switched. That is, when compared to the Japanese versions, instead of Boo=Almost, Miss=Boo, it is switched to Boo=Boo, Miss=Almost. GFDL

Certainly I can explain how gfdl applies to your that digitization of your picture (I assume you mean the anthropomorphic dog). All eligible contributions to Wikipedia must licensed under the GFDL. There is a clear copyright notice on the picture which indicates that you own copyright to it. I assume you uploaded this with good faith and it wasn't uploaded in error. So it is GFDL.

This is how Wikipedia works. Wikipedia isn't a free web provider. The price of contributing is that those contributions are released under gfdl. If you prefer we can switch the tag to {{nonfreedelete}} and delete the image, which would be a shame. But we will not store the image indefinitely without a gfdl release.

So what do you say. Do you want to keep the image. I have changed the tag back to {{copyrighted}} for now. But if you want to save the image from deletion you will have to use gfdl.

Mercury move

I have just reverted your page move of Mercury (planet) to Mercury, and related changes. A single topic only receives the primary disambiguation (ie. gets its own page name without (planet), (element) etc.) when it is the major dominant use of that name. Mercury the planet shares its name with the element and many others, meaning that no specific meanings gets the primary name. In the future major moves like this should be suggested and discussed on the relevant talk page before carrying them out. -- Chuq 09:31, 14 August 2005 (UTC)

BG James

Hello. I requested that the article on BG James be moved from Brian James to allow for disambiguation. I had originally requested that the page be moved to B.G. James, but I was informed that this was not in line with the wikipedia naming conventions, and that the title should be B. G. James (with a space). However, there was already an article at B. G. James, so I changed my request to BG James (as this is how TNA spells his name [1], [2]). I rolled back your edit as cut-and-paste moves are not allowed, as they eliminate the page history. You could, however, request that the page be moved to B.G. James irregardless of naming conventions. McPhail 19:34, 23 September 2005 (UTC)

WikiFur box on furry fandom

Hi there! I appreciate your attempt to promote WikiFur at the furry fandom page, but I think that it is inappropriate to have it be the first thing that people see on the page. Ultimately, it is a further resource, and further resources come after the main content. I'm sure other people would see it that way, too, and I'd prefer not to have people think we're unduly "pimping" WikiFur. :-)
