Please do not add inappropriate external links to Wikipedia, as you did to Camping. Wikipedia is not a collection of links, nor should it be used for advertising or promotion. Inappropriate links include (but are not limited to) links to personal web sites, links to web sites with which you are affiliated, and links that attract visitors to a web site or promote a product. See the external links guideline and spam guideline for further explanations. Since Wikipedia uses nofollow tags, external links do not alter search engine rankings. If you feel the link should be added to the article, please discuss it on the article's talk page rather than re-adding it. Thank you. Deor (talk) 02:34, 29 July 2008 (UTC)Reply
First, neither the "References" section nor the "See also" section is the correct place for an external link. But more important, the link violates several of the guidelines concerning external links to be avoided, such as "Any site that does not provide a unique resource beyond what the article would contain if it became a Featured article" and "Sites that are only indirectly related to the article's subject." A column/blog that seems to be mainly devoted to reviews of particular commercial items of camping equipment is simply not relevant to a general article on camping (and even less relevant to the article Adventure travel, where you also inserted the link). I suggest that you read WP:EL carefully. Deor (talk) 12:34, 1 August 2008 (UTC)Reply
I apologize if you percieved my tone as being one of admonishment. I was aware that you were a new WP user, and my message above was merely intended to inform you of some of the policies of the encyclopedia. I'm laconic by nature and can sometimes come off as rather brusque; I hope that you won't be reluctant to contribute to Wikipedia in the future because the first person you ran into happened to be an old curmudgeon. For further information about contributing to WP, you can follow the links in the welcome message below. Deor (talk) 01:23, 2 August 2008 (UTC)Reply
