R.M.R. Hall

Hi Procrastinatrix - You can cite a hard copy of an article, as long as it's got the usual author, title, date, and name of the newspaper or publication where it appeared. Even if the publication no longer exists, it did at the time the article was written, so citing it should be fine. There are a couple ways to add the citation in. Hi Procrastinatrix - The stub looks very nice! I looked online for more information on RMR Hall, but the first several google hits were your article :) and there wasn't much else available. Our site mentions an etymological dictionary, but I wasn't able to find the title and publication details. Thanks for the positive feedback! I wrote to the department chair last week, but so far no response -- I don't even know if he's checked the email. I also wrote a general email to the QC Linguistics department, but no response there either. Thank you! And thanks also for the minor cleanup on the article. No, unfortunately I don't have that information. I was trying to look up his son Mike for more information -- I went to high school with him --- but the name "Mike Hall" is so common that I don't think I'll ever find him. I also emailed Professor Vago at Queens College, but I haven't gotten a response yet. My next step is to contact the school paper -- the QC Quad -- to see if they still have the article on file that they printed at the time of his death. Sunflowers and weeds

Hello. In your edit summary you said, ""Weed" has a very specific definition in that it siphons nutrients from other surrounding plants. If the sunflower does this, please specify as such and provide a source."

Now, I'm not the one who said sunflowers were weeds, just made the sentence make a bit more sense; and I'm not contradicting you, but...

If "weed" really does have that very specific definition then our article on Weeds really needs a major re-write. You might want to tackle that since you seem to know something about them. 206.246.160.29 17:19, 2 August 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for your interest in my edit! Not to do a full-on debate (I am not a professional botanist), but here's a line from the beginning of the Weed article (emphasis mine):

Weeds may be unwanted because they are unsightly, or they limit the growth of other plants by blocking light or using up nutrients from the soil.

I would also agree with the "unsightly" definition to an extent, but you cannot generalize it to "any plants that are unwanted, or haven't been planted by the grower." What if, for example, an acorn is somehow brought onto the property (maybe by an animal)? Is the oak tree that grows from it considered a weed? Maybe you should read the Weed article more thoroughly. There are very specific plants classified as such (some examples are provided), as well as articles about beneficial weeds, weedy species, and so on. Carnivale

Thanks, I was using the site as ref, but it appears they use Sofie as well and the DVD says Sofie, so good catch! I'm working to expand the Carnivale section. It would be nice to get a portal made for it. One Day.

A third season would have been great. I still have hope. The Sopranos is gone, as is Deadwood. HBO should be able to afford it now.

I just finished the DVD section. I can't think of what else to add to it. I'll just need to link some stuff to HBO as ref.

Carnivàle

Hi. You just added a comment on AngelGraves13's talkpage, which I have on my watchlist because I was in long discussion about Carnivàle with him for a while there. You've also just added Category:Carnivàle to all Carni pages, so it seems you like that show, too. :-) Anyway, I've been working on the Carnivàle pages for a while now, and I don't think I've run out of material (with reliable sources). I've already improved the main page (Carnivàle) so much that I nominated it for Featured Article (Wikipedia:Featured article candidates/Carnivàle), and the only outside reply I got after one week was that it might still need another copy-editor. So, depending on your time and your language skills, would you go over that article and tweak it where you see fit? Categorizing Hmong Americans

Thank you for your interest in the project. However, the category Hmong Americans is a list of articles about people who are ethnically Hmong and living in America. For a similar list see Category:Italian-Americans or Category:German-Americans. Note that these categories do not contain articles related to the topic of Italian- or German-Americans (like food, literature, etc.) Those articles should more appropriately be listed in the "See also" section of the main article. For instance, The Spirit Catches You ... could be added to the See also section of the Hmong American article. This is unnecessary however, since it already is linked within the body of the article. Thanks for clarifying! Really, the more I look at the lack of attention paid to Hmong Americans, having read Fadiman's book, it's increasingly frustrating. The Hmong religion is not even included in the seemingly canonical List of religions, at least not that I could see. --Procrastinatrix 21:20, 30 August 2007 (UTC)

Traditional Hmong religion is a mixture of animism syncretized with a variety of other practices based on where the people are living. There probably is no "Hmong religion" that could be easily defined. Thanks for your input. We can use more people interested in these topics. Nposs 05:23, 31 August 2007 (UTC)

I just put in a link to the book in the Animism article, as well as adding the Animism category to the article about the book.
