editWelcome to Wikipedia. Everyone is welcome to make constructive contributions to Wikipedia, but at least one of your recent edits, such as the one you made to Donald W. Loveland, did not appear to be constructive and has been automatically reverted (undone) by ClueBot NG.
- Please use the sandbox for any test edits you would like to make, and take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia. Note that human editors do monitor recent changes to Wikipedia articles, and administrators have the ability to block users from editing if they repeatedly engage in vandalism.
- ClueBot NG produces very few false positives, but it does happen. If you believe the change you made should not have been detected as unconstructive, please read about it, report it here, remove this warning from your talk page, and then make the edit again.

- It was NOT unconstructive. Change your name to DumbBot. What a welcome to wikipedia.PumpkinSky (talk) 23:25, 7 July 2011 (UTC)
- Are you kidding? It's not orig research. It's on the Duke website and was a couple of words. It's hardly personal analysis either, just his speciality. Do you greet all new users this way?PumpkinSky (talk) 00:08, 8 July 2011 (UTC)

Hi
editAhhhh ... I see what you mean about "lecturing" on sources. I dropped by to "welcome" you, but I see you already got a couple of those obligatory links. Sorry a couple of my colleagues were so abrupt with a new editor, sometimes folks get real snippy about our WP:BLP stuff. They probably forget about our NO BITE concept. Anyway, welcome to Wikipedia, and feel free to drop me a question anytime. Once you get used to the joint, it can actually be a pretty enjoyable place to contribute to. Cheers and best. I did answer your question about the sources on the Collier shooting talk page. (are you familiar with putting things on your watchlist yet?) ... cheers. — Ched : ? 15:36, 9 July 2011 (UTC)
- Nice to see another friendly user! Yes I know about watch lists the other post answers my questions. The thing with the notices above is that they're inconsistent and hypocritical. For example, you see, I put something into the Loveland article and it's from the same "source" listed as the other info and there were no inline refs at all but they only remove my edit not the whole article! Then I tell both users of an article with whole sections with no refs and an article, nice one too, without a single ref. They do nothing about it and ignore me. I can only explain that as sheer hypocrisy!PumpkinSky (talk) 18:25, 9 July 2011 (UTC)
- Hi also! Thank you for appr Bach cantatas! Good to know you, --Gerda Arendt (talk) 10:02, 19 July 2011 (UTC)

Thx 4 yr help
editThks 4 yr help on the http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=College_tuition_in_the_United_States&action=history article -- I think now enough eyes are on the article to keep it somewhat protected -- that new editor that messed with me was wrong (Thx 4 yr defense here), but luckily, after I looked at some of his/her edits, it seems that most of them seem normal, so mayby, I think, he will calm down or i'll put him down.

DYK nomination of Table Mountain Wilderness
editHello! Your submission of Table Mountain Wilderness at the Did You Know nominations page has been reviewed, and there still are some issues that may need to be clarified. Need more help
editHey, Pumpkin, thanx for the help earlier --and -- Sorry to bother you again, but I need more help as described in Talk:College_tuition_in_the_United_States#Proposed_New_Section. Two other editors changed things, and one of them was an editor's 'bot' and it was just a mistake, and we got that resolved. However, the 2nd editor, 72Dino, made two other changes -- one of them looked OK, but the 2nd one, regarding Wikipedia:EL#What_to_link looked incorrect -- I'm not saying that 72Dino was wrong -- he may be right -- the links may not belong (I think they do belong), but let's say he's right: Even if the 'External Links' don't belong there, they certainly belong on SOME related College Tuition page --and by the way, looking at the registration dates and such of these pages, it looks certain that ALL of them are 'permanent' sources of information, likely to be around for a long time. Could you please take a look? It is important to offer full resources to the readers on the subject at hand. Thank you! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.100.187.222 (talk) 17:56, 10 July 2011 (UTC)
- I replied but probably not the answer you want. I just call 'em as I see 'em. PumpkinSky (talk) 20:13, 10 July 2011 (UTC)
- I responded http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Talk:College_tuition_in_the_United_States&diff=438801361&oldid=438801159 in talk -- trying to be balanced. PS: Even tho you apparently disagreed, thank you for respecting the consensus that was against your view and not reverting -- I give good reasons for including those few sentences in my reply. But I still need your help on the other issue --see the article diffs where another editor, 72Dino, I believe, removed stuff that looked appropriate --but even if these 'external links' were not appropriate on that page, they are on topic --and surely belong somewhere on a related article. They *were* properly on topic.71.100.187.222 (talk) 20:53, 10 July 2011 (UTC)

- Meh ... Pittsburgh PA is friendlier ... well ... unless you're a Cleveland Browns or Ravens fan ... lol. Hey there PS, just checkin back in on ya (not stalking). Looks like you're gettin the hang of this place. Couple new links for you: Are you familiar with WP:TWINKLE, WP:NPP and the various Help Desks? ... Just thought you might be interested. Like the sig. Cheers — Ched : ? 13:34, 16 July 2011 (UTC)
- Hey Ched. I used helpdesk once to learn about uploading photos, NPP I've helped at a little--though I didn't figure it out right away but now I have, but this twinkle thing is new. I'll have to check it out. Say, I've seen people talk about extra rights/privileges/whatever they're called that people who are not admins can get. The ones I recall have to do with patrolling, reviewing, "rollback". Do I "qualify" for them yet? It appears that you can just ask for them.PumpkinSky talk 13:45, 16 July 2011 (UTC)
- You can read up on them at WP:RIGHTS, and typically you can ask for them at Wikipedia:Requests for permissions, but I can just check off some if you'd like. The only two I'd say I want to mention is 1)I'd rather someone more familiar with the "edit filter" system do that one, simply because it's not an area I've ever messed with. 2)Rollback is one you have to be careful with .. it's very important that you only use it for true vandalism, and not just reverting poorly done edits. Let me know if you want them, and I'll check off the boxes in your rights page. — Ched : ? 13:56, 16 July 2011 (UTC)
- Yes please, any you feel comfortable with me having at this point. I'll be very careful. PumpkinSky talk 14:03, 16 July 2011 (UTC)

per No Big Deal
editOK ... if you look at this you'll see what I changed. You won't really notice a huge change in buttons or anything, other than the "Rollback" when you look at page history. What I added is:
- Done reviewer ... Actually this one is obsolete at the moment, but may come into play later. see: WP:FR and WP:PC for details
- Done account creator, see: Wikipedia:Request an account/Guide if you decide to get into this area. (I never messed around in that area much myself)
- Not done IP block exempt .. typically a WP:CU handles these.
- Done rollbacker. As mentioned above, you'll want to read Wikipedia:Rollback feature carefully since I have seen folks get their buts in a bind over this one. (even a few admins. at times)
- Done confirmed user. actually you already were ... lol
- Done autopatrolled. This will help with any of the new page patrol stuff you do. basically it just marks your edits as being done.
- Done file mover. This will help if you want to work on new articles in your sandbox area and move them out after they are done. see: Wikipedia:Moving a page. (quick note: be careful about moving anything with hyphens or dashes ie. - lines .. lol, as their was a recent, albeit lame, mess with this recently)
- Not done edit filter manager. If you want this down the road, let me know and I'll find someone to talk to. Not an area I've worked in.
Bottom line is I didn't see any reason to "be a dick" about these things, at least not the ones I'm familiar with ... so ... use common sense, ask if you're not sure, and enjoy. Cheers and best. (Oh ... and looks like you're doing great PS, good work, and thanks for helping out on the project) — Ched : ? 14:35, 16 July 2011 (UTC)
- Thanks Ched! Maybe people from Pittsburgh aren't so bad afterall ;-) Maybe we should have a wiki friendliness competition.PumpkinSky talk 14:46, 16 July 2011 (UTC)
- Note: You may want to also read over WP:NFCC and related links as far as the "move" thing goes. Cheers. — Ched : ? 14:58, 18 July 2011 (UTC)
DYK Flathead Indian Reservation
editYou've done some good work on the Flathead article. Unfortunately, I don't think it would be eligible for a 5X expansion DYK nomination. Since the infobox and embedded lists aren't counted, the expansion has only been (2873-June 24) to (5637-July 15). By my understanding of the rules, the article should have at least 14K+ characters of prose to be a 5X expansion. --Mike Cline (talk) 14:31, 18 July 2011 (UTC)
- you;re right. I didn't mean it was ready, but that it's need more to be ready. So we either let it go or find more info and sources. PumpkinSky talk 20:58, 18 July 2011 (UTC)

DYK FYI
editJust so you know, when nominating an article that multiple editors collaborated on, you make the NewDYKnom
template automatically make credit for them, like so:

This is probably easier than making the extra credits manually by hand and having to leave an explanation for reviewers. It also frees up the "comment" field for you to leave the comment about moving the article from a sandbox.
It's not necessary to change anything in this nom; I just wanted to let you know for future reference. rʨanaɢ (talk) 22:42, 24 July 2011 (UTC)

- Love it and said so! But see comments I just posted at WT:DYK. The way DYK has gone lately has really soured me. If I write new articles, I'll let you know and you can nom them. I don't need the mess DYK has become. PumpkinSky talk 22:53, 28 July 2011 (UTC)

- The best words on that overloaded discussion page which is detrimental to creativity were yours. We have a saying: "Es gibt kein schlechtes Wetter, nur unpassende Kleidung". I suggest let's get dressed for cold stormy weather for a while, but don't stop going outside. (There is a piano piece of Bartok which I love: Out Doors.) As for your suggestion I nominate your hooks: then I can't review them, smile. Better ask Sharktopus, the master of successful hooks, --Gerda Arendt (talk) 09:23, 29 July 2011 (UTC)

(outdent) Thanks so much, both of you. I liked your hook for the White Goat, and look forward to seeing more interesting stuff from you, on which if you like I will happily recommend even more hooks. Sharktopus talk 20:15, 29 July 2011 (UTC)
- PumpkinSky, by "the mess DYK has become" are you referring to the nominating procedure (creating a subpage, etc.), or the reviewing procedure (the checklist, etc.)? If you find the nomination procedure complicated, I am looking for feedback on ways i can make it smoother. rʨanaɢ (talk) 16:09, 7 August 2011 (UTC)
- The whole shebang. The FA people have turned it into a mini-FA. New articles should not be expected to be at that level, that discourages people from first writing them and if they do, secondly it discourages them from submitting them. In addition, the review process is now overly complicated and bureaucratic (one example is that checklist Tony made). Did DYK have issues? yes, but making such a pain that people leave DYK as I did is NOT the way to go. Then you have people like Materialscientist making themselves the sole decision maker of things. I hear things are even worse at FA. Thanks for asking, but I have no interest in DYK whatsoever.PumpkinSky talk 16:15, 7 August 2011 (UTC)

- I'm not at all upset, though you seem to be. Fixing it is not my responsibility, it's yours - you introduced the problem, you want it on the main page, you need to deal with it. If it had been on the nom page when I noticed it I would have communicated first, but since it was already in queue I acted to remove it so issues could be addressed a) without as much time pressure and b) without it potentially ending up on the main page while still problematic. DYK for Nelson Story
editOn 2 August 2011, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article Nelson Story, which you created or substantially expanded. The fact was ... that Nelson Story was the first cattleman to drive Texas Longhorns to Montana along the Bozeman Trail in 1866? You are welcome to check how many hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, quick check) and add it to DYKSTATS if it got over 5,000. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the Did you know? talk page. |

- You helped enough to be credited also, though. - I am happy that the wildernesses got the hits I had predicted. I know from the Bach cantatas, observed as 20%. Question
editHey there PSky. I remember working with you on the Nels Running article, and wondered if you would be interested in working on another historical military figure. The article I'm thinking of is Noel F. Parrish. A friend of mine who's no longer editing (I won't bore you with the details as I tend to get rather pissed when I think about it) and I were working on that and considering trying to get it up to GA. I think there's enough material there, and while I'm not really up on all the political stuff GA, FA, FLC and such must be endured; I think we could make a go at it. I'd be flattered if you'd at least take a look and tell me what you think, but it's by no means a "please do this" type of thing. Cheers and Best, — Ched : ? 21:10, 6 August 2011 (UTC)
- Hey Ched! That's an interesting article and sure I'd help where I can. Someone put a lot of work into that. Sorry about your friend. What do you want me to do? From a quick glance the intro lead needs beefed up. Other than that it looks very good to me. What do you see as it needing work on? PumpkinSky talk 21:17, 6 August 2011 (UTC)
- Thanks! .. right now a second set of eyes from someone whose worked on that type of article before. I'll see what I can do with the lead (hadn't thought of that). I probably won't get much time until Monday evening, but I hit that ASAP. Ummm ... I'm not trying to stick my nose in or anything, or ask personal stuff ... but should I consider you "he" or "she"? ... just wondering, and you don't have to say. Cheers. — Ched : ? 21:25, 6 August 2011 (UTC)
- If it's okay I'd rather people on the 'net know as little about me as possible. I'll give a look at the article now. PumpkinSky talk 21:33, 6 August 2011 (UTC)
- I could only find minor tweaks to make. After we get the lead up to snuff, I'd just go for GAC. PumpkinSky talk 21:42, 6 August 2011 (UTC)

- By "the project", I mean the RfA reform project, which I'll point out that you are not a member of. You're welcome to join and I think you'd be a valued member of the team - since you're actually interested in pushing forward with a point of view. However, to ensure that everything is easy to find, we've set up subpages, and comments on the top page are copied across to those subpages - keeping the conversations in one place. It stops the same comments coming up over and over, and it allows people to focus on particular areas. Pyfan and I are two of the co-ordinators who help keep the project in this order, you're welcome to discuss it with Swarm or Kudpung, the other two. Or you're welcome to post anything you like at the RfA talk page. From experience though, places like RfA talk or Jimbo's talk just let people have a shouting match, then it disappears into the archives and nothing happens. All we're doing is trying to keep things organized - and therefore not forgotten. WormTT · (talk) 17:55, 8 October 2011 (UTC)

- Aw..., don't feel bitten Pumpkin, we know you're interested in helping out with the running of Wikipedia but haven't learned to read talk page headers yet, or taken time to find out what adminship is all about. I'm sure that when you've read up on the work that is being done at RFA2011, understood what the issues are, and realised that there is no cabal, but a group of highly experienced users (admins and non admins) who do know what they are doing, you'll be welcome to make constructive comments there, especially if you take the advice you've been given by bureaucrats on board. --Kudpung กุดผึ้ง (talk) 01:54, 9 October 2011 (UTC)

- You've made many excellent contributions to articles and we understand your enthusiasm to be helpful in other areas. However, it would be a good idea for you to wait until you know more about the purpose, procedure, and policy of special projects before you join in with them. You might also wish to interact with people with a less combative tone, then you won't need to ask them to back off when you feel hurt. That's a great picture on your user page, but it might help us if there were some informtion about you on it. You can always come over to my page if you need help on anything. Yogo
editGreat article already! - Too great for me to review, I'm afraid, I'm not familiar with the subject. Comments (to avoid editing, smile): I would not need chemical formulas in the lead nor refs, expecting a general summary there. Language questions: "characteristics ... was"? "This is what gives"? "Mining at came to be known"? Avoid too many "also" in a row, look for a missing space, keep ref numbers rising (all these observed next to the rectangular pic.) Returning to my own first, --Gerda Arendt (talk) 20:14, 6 November 2011 (UTC)
- Thanks for looking. I did some moving around, editing, etc and need to do another review. PumpkinSky talk 20:17, 6 November 2011 (UTC)
- Fixed. PumpkinSky talk 20:32, 6 November 2011 (UTC)
- Saw it with pleasure, thank you. Pics: I don't feel the lead one should be smaller than the others, also don't like so much the blue one right opposite the purple, would prefer each colour to stand alone more. Looking again at the original pics, I think to crop them less and show a bit more of the light reflection around them might be a good idea, --Gerda Arendt (talk) 06:57, 7 November 2011 (UTC)
- Hmmm. I like the new lead pic because it's a richer blue. I may recrop it. I like the two that are beside the same paragraph because it's easier to see the color difference--it was less obvious when they weren't on the same line. Will think on this.PumpkinSky talk 10:46, 7 November 2011 (UTC)
- Sorry, I was not clear. The lead pic is fine, just small. The other pics are kind of too large in comparison, both their size (in pixels) and the size of the gem in relation to the pic size. I would crop THEM so that the sparkling - shadow ... (?) around them is visible at least a bit, that should give them a comparable size to the lead, in the article. If you click on those pics you would still see more details of the gem itself. - The two colours - a matter of taste. If you have to have them close together, please have a few lines of text in between, for the old-fashioned screens with barely any room left between 2 pics on the same level, --Gerda Arendt (talk) 11:04, 7 November 2011 (UTC)
- Lead pic even finer larger, thanks! --Gerda Arendt (talk) 11:06, 7 November 2011 (UTC)
- Perhaps it's my German grammar: "Yogo sapphires are rarer than diamonds, and in 1969, were designated the Montana state gemstone", - were (plural) ... the gemstone (singular), does it work in English? I suggest to take that fact as a DYK, together with "only mined in Yogo". --Gerda Arendt (talk) 15:10, 8 November 2011 (UTC)
- Not your grammar, but my sloppy writing. I've tweaked it. PumpkinSky talk 23:16, 8 November 2011 (UTC)

LOL! WikiProject EQuine, where many of my other wiki-buddies hang out. One happens to also an astonishingly prolific creator of GA and FA-class articles on Episcopalian bishops, so she has a great variety of interests and a good eye for where a GA nom can get hung up, I respect her views immensely. Hi, I just took a look at this article and to improve it, I would suggest not sandwitching text between two adjacent images, this is discouraged for GA articles. Thank you for your time!!! Puffin Let's talk! 19:09, 27 November 2011 (UTC)
- I'll think about it. I like the way, in this case, that it shows contrasting blue and purple Yogos.PumpkinSky talk 19:13, 27 November 2011 (UTC)
- Hmm, I think - without knowing the rules - I said something similar. They would contrast also one under the other, and the text would look less squeezed. - I just mentioned the article as a good example for DYK collaboration, hope you don't mind. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 19:28, 27 November 2011 (UTC)

Krieger
editYou read my mind! I suggested Hans Krieger for Christmas and wanted to wait for more info until the cantata's premiere today and tomorrow (same people, 2 locations) and perhaps a review. But if it will appear tomorrow, something like "premiered today" might be added. If wanted, I could supply the posters, only both don't name the librettist, of course, --Gerda Arendt (talk) 15:03, 3 December 2011 (UTC)
- It looks like it will hit the main page on Dec 4. Let's keep and eye if that pans out. I'll change it now. I didn't even realize the coincidence. ;-)PumpkinSky talk 15:08, 3 December 2011 (UTC)

The Chimes, Uxbridge
editCould you explain why you have closed the Template:Did you know nominations/The Chimes, Uxbridge when discussion was ongoing. Although the reviewer had marked it as DYKno, they had not responded to comments for two weeks up until that time and have not responded since. I have asked another editor to complete the review. Would you mind reopening the nomination, or giving your thoughts on what should be done? Harrison49 (talk) 15:29, 3 December 2011 (UTC)

RFA thanks
editThank you for your comment and support at my recent successful RFA. Being now the new fellow in the fraternity of administrators, I will do my best to live up to the confidence shown in me by others, will move slowly and carefully when using the mop, will seek input from others before any action of which I might be unsure, and will try not to break anything beyond repair. Re: Prep question
editSorry for the slow response, but I have recently returned from traveling and am still in the process of working through old messages. As for why instructions do not match reality, DYK has seen a number of changes to how things work over the last few months and it is not surprising that the documentation has not caught up to the current situation. You can actually edit the instructions, or if you are uncomfortable doing so then Wikipedia talk:Did you know is the place to request better wording. --Allen3 talk 01:40, 5 December 2011 (UTC)

Dieter Thomas Heck
editYou may be interested in Dieter Thomas Heck because I heard him tell on radio that he stuttered after a traumatic experience in Worl War II, age 5, until he received lessons in classical singing. He went on to become one of the fastest speakers in German radio/TV. That's so far all I know. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 08:17, 11 December 2011 (UTC)
- Very interesting, but stuttering is not in his article. Is there a good source for this fact(s)? If so we can add to his article and the FL on stutterers. So yes, I am interested in this. PumpkinSky talk 11:57, 11 December 2011 (UTC)
- As I said, I heard him say that in an interview on radio and don't know more (yet). Perhaps a topic for next year. - Did you ever mention in your remarkable achievements the number of hits the list received while on the Main page with Kastner? --Gerda Arendt (talk) 13:11, 11 December 2011 (UTC)
- Never even thought of checking, but I just did and it was 1.2K hits, so I'll add it. Also added Bruno to the Kastner dab page. PumpkinSky talk 13:25, 11 December 2011 (UTC)
- I think that was one of my better pipe-links, interesting that 1.2k clicked on "stuttered", I wonder what they expected. - Once counting, there was also one or the other wilderness, not bold but shown. And Grasshoff received 1.2k hits, thanks for your help! Latest cantata (for Christmas) BWV 63, and others created the related church in Halle! --Gerda Arendt (talk) 13:35, 11 December 2011 (UTC)

- Where do the 3 days come from? In his interview it was one night (bad enough). What I remember (not a reliable source): they had been in the basement because of alarm, then returned after it was over, he remembered that he had forgotten his Teddybär, a gift from his father (it remained unclear if the father was just missing or had died), he returned to fetch that Teddy but the wall collapsed when he returned with it and was on the stairs, his mom came but could not free him, so told him she would be back next morning with help. (As I said, bad enough) I had no time to follow the rest of the interview, it was last Sunday morning, don't remember the station, --Gerda Arendt (talk) 14:03, 11 December 2011 (UTC)

- Curious, but not too eager at the moment. It's a lot of details, + a lot of the writer's attitude. Fact's: before his 6th birthday, one night. Missing that it happened at night. To sift the rest of the facts would be tricky. I never saw one of his shows. - But this has DYK potential, perhaps we expand next year? "Ros entsprungen" still not done, and there is Christmas cantata, I mean there isn't (but something in German, and look at the talk if you want to know why I prefer English). Never trust de WP. Will travel, starting tomorrow, --Gerda Arendt (talk) 19:26, 11 December 2011 (UTC)

DYK for Traveler's Rest (Lolo, Montana)
editOn 14 December 2011, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article Traveler's Rest (Lolo, Montana), which you created or substantially expanded. The fact was ... that Traveler's Rest near Lolo, Montana, is the only place along the Lewis and Clark Trail where physical evidence of the Lewis and Clark Expedition has been found? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Traveler's Rest (Lolo, Montana). You are welcome to check how many hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, quick check) and add it to DYKSTATS if it got over 5,000. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the Did you know? talk page. |

- I can't find anything on wife 1, must not have gone well ;-). As for wife 2 this ref says Florence is a Doctor (PHD or MD I don't know). Nothing on the award was first made either--nor a full list of recipients, though several mentionings of them is part are found. Yea, BarkingMoon did a great job on creating that article. The only thing I can think of is if you think we should add more on the Tuskeegee Airmen during the war in the lead. Other than that, I'd say list at GAC. PumpkinSky talk 00:39, 15 December 2011 (UTC)
- My thinking was we didn't want to give more weight to the airmen than to Parrish himself. But like I said .. I don't have much recent experience dealing with the GA folks. Do you think I need to expand info on his second wife? ... I couldn't find any info on either 1st wife or more on the award either. (to be honest, my first thought was an article on the award itself .. but I don't think there's enough here yet to fork that out right now). just IMHO. You wanna submit .. or you want me to give it a shot? — Ched : ? 01:52, 15 December 2011 (UTC)

editThanks for the 500 DYK medal. How do you arrive at 513. I claim 508 here and have another 14 so far this month.--TonyTheTiger (T/C/BIO/WP:CHICAGO/WP:FOUR) 06:44, 16 December 2011 (UTC)

I view WP:TFA to be a good thing, especially for a lightly-viewed article like this. This is the only chance to get a broad spectrum of readers to comb through this content and help to spruce it up.--TonyTheTiger (T/C/BIO/WP:CHICAGO/WP:FOUR) 16:23, 17 December 2011 (UTC)
- Meh. I think it's silly to throw an article at TFA and not protect, so a new user comes by and see a "FA" with obscenity, profanity, and gibberish. PumpkinSky talk 18:30, 17 December 2011 (UTC)
- Well, I think if anybody can edit, we can't protect, but several people should watch. I remember when I had a DYK on Palm Sunday and some editor with good intentions (I think) replaced the pic of the Schlosskirche in Weimar by the photo of a donkey. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 18:40, 17 December 2011 (UTC)
- Precisely my point. If it's on the main page as FA of today, protect it. PumpkinSky talk 20:05, 17 December 2011 (UTC)
- Having helped a team babysit several TFAs, I wholeheartedly agree that protection is in order. Unfortunately, seems that when this notion comes up, it is repeatedly shot down again and again, so I doubt the community consensus will change any time in the immediate future. That said, I've rarely if ever seen a constructive edit hit during the time an article is TFA. I do wish there was a way to prevent the incessant drumbeat of anon IP vandalism and maybe direct suggested legit edits to the talk page. I also have seen some witchhunts hit a TFA over minor crap and run at least one damn good editor completely off wikipedia as a result. Montanabw(talk) 20:36, 18 December 2011 (UTC)

It's mostly a herd of bored and disgruntled people who still believe the world exists in a perfect state within their own minds. (With all apologies to anyone who of economic necessity is living in their mom's basement but are not part of the above problem). Montanabw(talk) 21:21, 18 December 2011 (UTC)

- I can't recall where, but there has been a ton over the years, somewhere. As for living in parents' basement, intent was a cynical tongue in cheek -- even my own offspring had occasion to revert to that status, but eventually re-emerged into the mainstream. It happens. Just best not to be a permanent state, it kind of leads to a certain type of tunnel vision, perhaps linked to vitamin D deficiency from never seeing sunlight. LOL! Apologies
editThis may be a bit overdue, but I feel that I personally owe you an apology on the Yogo sapphire GA review. I forced you through a lot of work which should have been outside/beyond the GA review, and I sincerely apologize for that mistake. Last week I was reading through Wikipedia:What the Good article criteria are not and came across "'Prose is clear and concise' means that each sentence or paragraph is clear and not confusing, even if you might have phrased it differently." and "Mistakes to avoid: ... Imposing your own stylistic preferences or national variety of English on the article text, and making vague requests for 'more' or 'better' images." Yet this is precisely what I was demanding, and I apologize for the annoyances that I caused you with that. I shall not make the same mistake again. As I've said before, this was a learning process for me, but I feel that I kind of botched things up there. Given the chance to repeat the experience, I probably should have pointed out a few things, performed a more thorough analysis of the citations, and then waited for you to correct the few real issues before passing the article. It should have been a lot simpler because it really was very close to GA at that time. On a lighter note though, it appears that the Yogo sapphire article is rapidly gaining ground on the quality scale, and currently is quite informative. It seems very reasonable that it could achieve Featured Article status sometime soon, and it seems that you, Montanabw, Vsmith, and a few other editors are hard at work trying to achieve that. That article really does reflect well on Wikipedia and provides loads of information the 100+ visitors to the page each day. I really wish you the best of luck on it! If you feel frustrated seeing your 15 minutes of work dismantled, try spending several hours working on DYK reviews in an effort to build up a large and diverse enough set of approved hooks to allow creation of needed DYK sets for a holiday that begins in 24 to 36 hours and finding that someone poached half your work at the last minute so they could build "a really good prep set." I am surprised however to learn that you were unaware of the need for the Christmas sets, seeing how you built two partial Christmas Eve sets in the last 24 hours.[2][3] --Allen3 talk 02:02, 24 December 2011 (UTC)

- The review seems thorough and fair while also showing the article is close to GA as we suspected. Thanks for asking me to help. PumpkinSky talk 12:48, 25 December 2011 (UTC)

I saw that you made an edit to the article. Just wondering if you've seen it, and if so, can you tell me whether the horse survives? My wife doesn't want to see it if the horse doesn't survive - which is apparently the way the original story ends. Thank you! ←Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? carrots→ 08:40, 26 December 2011 (UTC)
- No I haven't seen it, but I want it. I changed the article to it being in the theaters now as it was advertised as "now showing". It is in fact in a theater about 1.5miles from my house. Not sure if we'll go to the theater or wait for a DVD availability or what. But I do indeed want to see it. If I do I will endeavor to let you know. PumpkinSky talk 11:41, 26 December 2011 (UTC)
- Thank you. I think I have the answer now. ←Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? carrots→ 20:15, 26 December 2011 (UTC)

- Bugs, the spoilers are all over and they say the main characters do not die (and I don't think they did in the book, either), but some other horse and human characters you will care about will. Tell your wife to go but bring a box of kleenex, it's what I plan on doing; the freaking previews are making me cry already! (No, it hasn't come to my town yet, grrrr.....) Pumpkin: you go too, there is already Oscar buzz and Spielberg apparently discovered that horses can "act," so kudos for the old boy still learning some new tricks! I think the early scenes will probably be 100% Cheese, but once everyone grows up, it will be as gritty as needed for serious drama. Besides, there are horses in it! Yay! Montanabw(talk) 06:32, 27 December 2011 (UTC) Follow up: Bugs, I saw it, I'm declaring it an official Spielberg film and hence it's safe to attend without fear that the nihilism will drive you over the brink. Joey (the horse) IS almost a ringer for Private Ryan, except the horse had a little tougher go of it! (LOL!) I was mildly mistaken in one guess, however, in that both the last five minutes AND the first five minutes were both 100% cheese, (major equestrian sin: the mare "gives birth" to a foal that's a good two months old... LOL!) but the rest was well worth the price of admission. Montanabw(talk) 06:24, 31 December 2011 (UTC)
