using screenshots of anime credits as a source?

Context:
I'm currently on a mission to update Sayo Yamamoto's page with accurate credits. My method so far has gone from looking for reliable news sources stating her role in various media to taking screenshots of credits wherever IMDb claimed she'd be. It's time consuming, but interestingly revealing of just how wrong different sources can be in this regard.

Intention:
Is it okay to, wherever on her page it'd be appropriate, add this link to my PostImage album where people can get the closest thing to confirmation of her work they'll easily find?
If not, I'll just settle for adding a citation for each anime (e.g.: Arakawa Under the Bridge (Blu-ray) episode 1-13 end credits).
Now's a good time to mention the fact that I plan to link to my webp image for Shamanic Princess' final credits scroll when I finally get around to updating its page.

Secondary Question:
Is it okay to upload any of the above images to wikipedia instead? If so, is there a preferred way to go about this? QuestioningEspecialy (talk) 03:52, 26 January 2025 (UTC)

First, a lot of this discussion should probably happen on Talk:Sayo Yamamoto so other editors interested in the topic can help out. As to your questions, referencing the episode is acceptable without linking to your image gallery (which I believe would violate WP:ELNEVER and potentially ELNO #11 further down the page). Uploading the images would probably constitute a copyright violation; there are certain times an image can be uploaded but those are usually for things like title cards and posters, not screenshots of credits pages. uploading quick sketches (with ID's) to avoid copyright policy violations?

I've read quite a bit about what kind of images can and can't be uploaded and i get the impression that anime posters, digital magazine 'cutouts', and even my own photos of DVD materials (including the case cover) aren't allowed. So~ why not just do an extremely simple sketch of the image and use a thorough image description to finish the painting? 🤷🏿‍♂️

The question is: is this even allowed? I don't recall ever seeing thorough image descriptions on Wikipedia, nevermind such 'recreations' of probably copyrighted material. If it is allowed, sweet. How exactly should I go about it? I assume a link to the image while providing a very brief summary of what it is within the article would suffice, but how would I indicate to blind people especially that the link leads to a thorough image description? It would probably be removed from the article as being unnecessary. We do have WP:NFCC which describes when you can use copyrighted images (short version: low resolution versions are usually okay). Personally speaking, I would not approve of a sketch of a poster being useful or otherwise worth including in an article, if the only reason that sketch existed was to get around copyright rules. I guess at the end of the day, it's better to upload the actual image under an NFCC criteria than try to skirt around the rules. I need help me with... My avoiding an edit war in the Plot section topic on Predator: Badlands's Talk page never got a response or resolution. Did I forget a step or was it just ignored? uploading videogame and forum screenshots?

Please help me with... Granado Espada's article expansion.
i'd like to upload screenshots & promo images from the MMO's early years, forum archives (e.g.: a main page, not a specific post), and various websites (e.g.: official game sites, news articles, etc.) for the sake of briefly presenting 'what once was', but the copyright stuff takes way too much time for me to wrap my head around when it comes to grey areas like this. i highly doubt i still have any screenshots of my own anywhere, but i'll find various ones in archives from news articles, blog posts, forums posts, and even still-existing YouTube videos.
Question: so what exactly can i use, and would i need to crop them heavily (see below) to get a greenlight?

Physical Media

while i'm at it, is it safe to assume that images of physical media must have either been photographed by me or been given a specific license(?) in order for me to upload them? if the latter then which license(s)? the game has had atleast two different boxed releases and multiple soundtrack releases.

They can also be very tricky, and the nuances also escape the majority of even experienced editors here. That is why I am going to recommend that you post your question at the place where the people most knowledgeable and experienced with this kind of question hang out. That is at WikiCommons, where all images (and other media) used in Wikipedia articles are stored. The place to go is c:Commons:Village pump/Copyright. That link will take you to WikiCommons, a sister project of Wikipedia. I can tell you for starters that cropping the image down will not resolve the copyright issues (if there are any), so no point trying that. There is also something called Fair Use, which may allow you to use one single image, but only on the one article about the game, and not on related articles, just that one, and only in a low-resolution version that looks fine in the article thumbnail image, but if you try to view it at full screen width or high resolution, looks blurry. article revision not to standard?

Please help me with...
i'd like to know what i generally got right and wrong in my Granado Espada revision draft (User talk:QuestioningEspecialy/Sandbox) to make future revisions go smoothly. from what i've read in the Help:Editing#Content style and policies article, i probably(?) shouldn't be using forum posts at all unless it's an official post by the admins/company. so a ton is getting gutted in that case. 🤷🏿‍♂️
additionally, i plan to make a (good enough) T3Fun article for the sole purpose of having more than the (very outdated) Redbana Corporation#Redbana Divisions section, so some portion of that draft is likely to be transferred/copied over. QuestioningEspecialy (talk) 00:36, 20 August 2026 (UTC)

Hi, QuestioningEspecialy. I think you picked a very tough article to work on. Your sandbox appears to be partly a copy of Granado Espada section § T3Fun Transfer with whatever mods you are planning. But the original is in terrible shape for a number of reasons, starting with lacking citations, and a whole host of others, including the forum posts you mention. This is a very heavy lift; are you sure you want to take this on? An alternate approach is just go back to the original with a machete, and slash and burn anything that isn't cited or cited to unreliable sources, and then try to reorganize what's left into a coherent narrative.

Secondly, if you are determined to go forward with this, the cutting back and splitting you mention, *if* that is the appropriate approach, is described at WP:Summary style so be sure to have a look at that. Rather than close this, I am going to leave it open so other editors can chime in. Also, you might want to consider closing it yourself (by removing/commenting out the {{Help me}} header) and posting your question at the WP:Teahouse, with a link back here. Good luck! for the record, i do intend to follow through. i just want to not waste a horde of time on sections that may end up needing to just be a blog post for site standards reasons.

already collected quite alot of reliable sources myself, btw.
