ArbCom elections are now open!

edit

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. For the Election committee, MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 17:11, 24 November 2015 (UTC)Reply

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Malayali, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Ramzan. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Tharoor

edit

Look, you know that SpacemanSpiff was also opposed to including Shashi Tharoor in the List of Nairs a few months ago when you last tried to include the entry. I think there were some other objectors also. Just because RegentsPark turns up in support of your view a couple of hours ago at the talk page does not mean you suddenly have consensus - you will need to leave it a few days at least. This is a WP:BLP issue and we should err on the side of caution. - Sitush (talk) 23:01, 5 January 2016 (UTC)Reply

I agree, I guess more time will help with the discussion. Best regards, Rabt man (talk) 23:05, 5 January 2016 (UTC)Reply

Google Books

edit

Hi, regarding your recent edit at Ezhava where you removed a citation because it seemed to you to be a snippet view, well, I'm afraid that this is one of the big problems regarding sourcing on Wikipedia. In that particular instance, I certainly have read a hard-copy of the book and the statement seems to reflect what the book says.

Sometimes GBooks URLs are given simply as a courtesy but they are never definitive. A part of the reason for this is that GBooks does not display the same content to everyone. User:Sitush/Common#GBooks explains this, although it is mostly a link to something else.

It is quite a stinker, especially on caste articles, because we are supposed to assume good faith but there is no doubt that sometimes people either mis-read or even deliberately misrepresent what a source says. Given enough time, you will see many instances of people inserting bits of information into a sentence/paragraph that is already sourced. You have to ask the question: are they adding something that is in that source or are they adding their own thoughts as if it were in the source. It is a tricky business and I'm afraid that it only gets easier with experience. Even then, I am sure that there are many statements here that appear to be ok but in fact are not. - Sitush (talk) 02:09, 9 January 2016 (UTC)Reply

Hey Sitush how are you?. I agree, these snippet views can easily be misused. I am not too sure why Google allows these snippets as opposed to previews of at least one page of the given. Some pages of Google Books in fact say "not viewable" but they may be used as citations in articles. What should be done in that case?Rabt man (talk) 02:16, 9 January 2016 (UTC)Reply

Discretionary sanctions

edit
This message contains important information about an administrative situation on Wikipedia. It does not imply any misconduct regarding your own contributions to date.

Please carefully read this information:

The Arbitration Committee has authorised discretionary sanctions to be used for pages regarding India, Pakistan, and Afghanistan, a topic which you have edited. The Committee's decision is here.

Discretionary sanctions is a system of conduct regulation designed to minimize disruption to controversial topics. This means uninvolved administrators can impose sanctions for edits relating to the topic that do not adhere to the purpose of Wikipedia, our standards of behavior, or relevant policies. Administrators may impose sanctions such as editing restrictions, bans, or blocks. This message is to notify you sanctions are authorised for the topic you are editing. Before continuing to edit this topic, please familiarise yourself with the discretionary sanctions system. Don't hesitate to contact me or another editor if you have any questions.  Bishonen | talk 17:42, 7 February 2016 (UTC).Reply
I have just been looking at some of your recent edits from the days immediately prior to the above notice. They are, generally speaking, atrocious and completely unacceptable. I've reverted a few but my levels of concentration are not great at the moment. Expect far more to be reverted or radically edited in the near future. You've removed decent sources, added poor ones, misrepresented some, engaged in close paraphrasing, tried to "push" a glorification agenda for Nairs/disdain agenda for other local communities etc. It simply will not do: if you cannot edit neutrally then please consider whether you should be editing such articles at all. - Sitush (talk) 13:16, 8 February 2016 (UTC)Reply

Reply to your post on my page

edit

I was very surprised to be receiving this post on my page. I have never posted on your page other than making you aware of the discretionary sanctions a couple of days ago, and to the best of my recollection I have never edited a caste article or its talkpage. And yet you address me as being one of "the so-called neutral editors of caste-based articles" — as somebody who is harassing you, hounding you, attacking other castes, bullying people — etc etc. Did you mean to post that text somewhere else? Perhaps here on your own page, to respond to Sitush's post just above? Respond with hand-waving rather than facts, if so. But never mind where you meant to post; the things you said, even apart from your unfortunate choice of venue for saying them, have suggested to me you simply shouldn't be editing caste pages. I haven't been following your editing before, but I will now, because I find your attitude alarming. I'm particularly alarmed by your implicit defense of sockpuppetry for the purpose of agenda-driven editing at NAIR: "People will resort to sock-puppeting etc as they will not know how to prove their point which they see as obvious." Will they, now. Have you had an account before this one? Your very first edits, inserting images in an image gallery at Malayali, show a surprising facility with Wikipedia code for a brand new user. I had been here for years before I was able to figure out how to do something like that. Bishonen | talk 16:50, 9 February 2016 (UTC).Reply

My apologies if I had sounded hostile against you, or offended you in any sort of way. I assume so, by the use of rhetoric and suspicion of me in your response. This is in fact, my very first account in wikipedia. It is not so hard to code infoboxes etc, and if you are implying that I was a previous user, then you are wrong. I had always wanted proper discussion, and had always pointed out that all of you misinterpret my edits. I have no glorification agenda/disdain for other communities. I had in fact tried to remove such nonsense from pages such as Nair, but ignored and harassed for trying to do so. My point is that I had been trying for a long time to remove complete nonsense in caste-based articles from people with glorification agendas, but certain groups of these other users wih glorification agendas had sided with Sitush etc. When I had given proper references to back it up, I was ignored. In the process of removing them, I was reverted by Sitush, but he didnt even bother to check what had been written and his edit summary went right against that. My point is, Joshua Johnathan, Sitush, and their supporters have been helping such editors push their POV. I have no problem with them, but with the complete hypocrisy in what is being done here. Taking sides in a complex issue, and criminalizing people you do not agree with will not help. Just look at the Nadar and Syrian Christian articles for proof regarding my statement regarding hypocrisy. Look how ridiculous they are, including their related pages.   Greetings. At least one of your recent edits, such as the edit you made to Martial races, did not appear to be constructive and has been or will be reverted or removed. You can find information about these at our welcome page which also provides further information about contributing constructively to this encyclopedia. I didn't see the citation for it, but i've added citations for it so that there is not confusion. Rabt man (talk) 03:26, 25 February 2016 (UTC)Reply

Hello. This is a message to let you know that one or more of your recent contributions, such as the edit you made to Naga people (Lanka), did not appear constructive and has been or will be undone. Everyone is welcome to contribute to Wikipedia, but it is important for edits made to the encyclopedia not to be disruptive. Please take some time to familiarise yourself with our policies and guidelines. You can find information about these at our welcome page which also provides further information about contributing constructively to this encyclopedia. If you only meant to make test edits, please use the sandbox for that. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you may leave a message on my talk page. You seem once again to be removing valid content relating to the Nair/Ezhava communities. This is something that you have been sanctioned for in the past and it really must stop. Sitush (talk) 12:21, 29 April 2016 (UTC)Reply

You yourself had done the same edits I had done to the Naga article afterwards. You understood that there was synthesis, and also raj sources in the article and had literally done the same edits I had done after reverting my own. Your hypocrisy is laughable. Nair article - Nair woman of 1914 - a naked girl doesnt represent anything about the nair community

edit

Can we do something about this or add a new discussion on the article?

This picture does not depict the traditional attire nor any other attributes. This picture can be replaced with a better picture that depicts something.

Im strictly against this picture which seems to serve no importance. Chester Lee Ming (talk) 09:38, 5 June 2017 (UTC)Reply
