Articles about children

edit

You have started more than one article about a preteen child without using any sources. We now insist on having reliable sources for new articles about living people, but writing articles about children without using any sources is pretty irresponsible. We have a duty to get facts about peoples' lives right, and we should not have an article on a child unless they certainly have significant coverage about them in their own right. Twelve year olds shouldn't be written about lightly. Please take note of this. Fences&Windows 22:58, 4 April 2011 (UTC)Reply

Proposed deletion of Iceland national under-14 football team

The article Iceland national under-14 football team has been proposed for deletion. The proposed-deletion notice added to the article should explain why.

Speedy deletion nomination of Ragnar Hansson

edit

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

A tag has been placed on Ragnar Hansson requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article, which appears to be about a real person, individual animal(s), an organization (band, club, company, etc.), or web content, does not indicate how or why the subject of the article is important or significant: that is, why an article about it should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not indicate the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.

If you can assert the notability of the subject, contest the deletion by adding {{hang on}} at the top of the article, immediately below the speedy deletion ({{db-...}}) tag (if no such tag exists, the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate), and give your reasons on the article's talk page, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself. You may freely add information to the article that would confirm the subject's notability under Wikipedia guidelines.

See the guidelines for specific types of articles: biographies, websites, bands, or companies. GiantSnowman 16:28, 6 April 2011 (UTC)Reply

edit

As an encyclopedia. Wikipedia is selective about article subjects. In general, they must be notable, which means showing significant coverage in reliable, independent secondary sources. For footballers, in particular, the standard is explained at WP:NSOCCER. There is no point in creating articles about under-14 players, they will just be deleted. Please don't make any more. If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Mark Doninger, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G4 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be a repost of material that was previously deleted following a deletion debate, such as at articles for deletion. Under the specified criteria, where an article has substantially identical content to that of an article deleted after debate, and any changes in the content do not address the reasons for which the material was previously deleted, it may be deleted at any time.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, contest the deletion by clicking on the button that looks like this:   which appears inside of the speedy deletion ({{db-...}}) tag (if no such tag exists, the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate). Doing so will take you to the talk page where you will find a pre-formatted place for you to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines.   Hello Raggi2010. If you are affiliated with some of the people, places or things you have written about in the article User:Raggi2010/sandbox, you may have a conflict of interest or close connection to the subject.

All editors are required to comply with Wikipedia's neutral point of view content policy. People who are very close to a subject often have a distorted view of it, which may cause them to inadvertently edit in ways that make the article either too flattering or too disparaging. People with a close connection to a subject are not absolutely prohibited from editing about that subject, but they need to be especially careful about following the reliable sources and writing with as little bias as possible.

If you are very close to a subject, here are some ways you can reduce the risk of problems:

  • Avoid or exercise great caution when editing or creating articles related to you, your organization, or its competitors, as well as projects and products they are involved with.
  • Be cautious about deletion discussions. Everyone is welcome to provide information about independent sources in deletion discussions, but avoid advocating for deletion of articles about your competitors.
  • Avoid linking to the Wikipedia article or website of your organization in other articles (see Wikipedia:Spam).
  • Exercise great caution so that you do not accidentally breach Wikipedia's content policies.

Please familiarize yourself with relevant content policies and guidelines, especially those pertaining to neutral point of view, verifiability of information, and autobiographies.

For information on how to contribute to Wikipedia when you have a conflict of interest, please see our frequently asked questions for organizations. Thank you. WikiPuppies! (bark) 21:37, 3 September 2011 (UTC)Reply

Competence

edit

Raggi, you have edited this encyclopedia 147 times, and 72 of those edits have been deleted--in articles on non-notable players and other editors. Many of your other edits have been reverted. You were warned in April 2011 to NOT create any more articles on non-notable people, esp. underage people, yet you created a bunch more, which were also deleted. I don't know how many times on this talk page you've been referred to such guidelines as WP:N, for notability, but it's obvious you haven't followed those suggestions. Here is a final warning: if you create more of those articles, of the kind which are clearly subject to speedy deletion via WP:CSD (criterion A7 for instance), you risk being blocked indefinitely. It seems that you edit Wikipedia without knowing what editing Wikipedia really entails, and that is causing more trouble than it is worth. I urge you to stop, and I suggest you seek mentoring (see WP:MENTOR), preferably from someone who is acquainted either with Icelandic matters or with soccer. Please take my advice. No one here wants to block anyone, but sometimes that needs to be done. Look at the thread about your editing behavior at WP:ANI and try to learn from it. Best, Drmies (talk) 22:47, 3 September 2011 (UTC)Reply

  • At ANI, User:GiantSnowman has kindly suggested they might be willing to show you the ropes. They strike me as a nice person, and they have a lot of editing experience here. I suggest you drop them a line. Thank you, Drmies (talk) 22:49, 3 September 2011 (UTC)Reply
  • Indeed, I have been editing articles about football for five-and-a-half years, and would be more than willing to assist you in any way you require. Just let us know. Regards, GiantSnowman 11:53, 4 September 2011 (UTC)Reply

If you would like to be unblocked, you may appeal this block by adding the text {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}, but you should read the guide to appealing blocks first. Drmies (talk) 22:36, 4 September 2011 (UTC)Reply
  • Raggi, you have been blocked to prevent further disruptive edits esp. to John Rooney (footballer). You have been informed of the ANI thread, you have been offered mentoring, it has been explained to you on this talk page why your edits were problematic. You never responded, here or at ANI, or individually to the editors who have offered you help, and went ahead and again made edits that were deemed problematic--in this case, specifically the addition of unsourced information to a biography of a living person.

I urge you to pay attention to what other editors are telling you--a failure to do so, in this case, might lead to an indefinite block, and reasons cited might include a lack of competence and a failure to listen. I hope it does not have to go that far. Drmies (talk) 22:41, 4 September 2011 (UTC)Reply

Hi, you recently added the under-14 Icelandic player Raggi Hansson to the MCFC Academy squad without any referenced reliable source information to support this addition. As far as I can determine Raggi still plays for West Ham on loan from Liverpoop F.C. He also is quite likely yourself. He most certainly doesn't play for the MCFC academy team. I have reverted your recent batch of edits to the aforementioned article because what you just did is considered vandalism, but it is clear from reading your Talk Page that you are already well aware of that.
