James Everett Stuart

Hello.

I wanted to write in regards to several website postings regarding the bio on American Painter, James Everett Stuart being the grandson of famed painter, Gilbert Stuart. I am in the process of getting corrected (for the historical record) art galleries and websites that claim James Everett Stuart was the “grandson” of Gilbert Stuart, which I believe was entirely fabricated by art galleries to increase the value of James Everett Stuart's paintings.

James Everett Stuart was born in 1852 (near Bangor Maine) and died in 1941 in San Francisco. I am related to JE Stuart on my mother’s side (Fran Stuart) daughter of Joe and Mary Stuart of Moorpark, California. My great-great grandfather, Joseph M. Stuart and JE Stuart were first cousins, and they both lived in the same central and southern California regions. I have a lot of bio information on JE Stuart (Family records, copy of his death certificate, census records from Maine, California and first hand accounts of family who personally knew him: My grandfather and my great grandfather knew James Everett Stuart and also lived in the same areas of Central California. I have the complete genealogy records (compiled in 1916 by Solomon Stuart II, Stuart patriarch, and who was JE Stuart’s uncle ) and documentation that shows James Everett Stuart’s parents and his grandparents and all of the Stuart family in Maine and also later when they moved to California (1860) that refutes the erroneous association of James Everett Stuart to Gilbert Stuart .

My family records:

James Everett Stuart’s father was DANIEL STUART (confirmed with Sacramento, California and Maine State records and Federal 1870 census):

DANIEL S. STUART was born April 30, 1825 in Standish, Maine, and died

February 03, 1916 in Oakland, Ca. He married LYDIA PHILPOT April 30, 1848 in Ornsville, Maine. She was born in Atkinson, Maine.

Children of DANIEL STUART and LYDIA PHILPOT are:

i. AUGUST8 STUART, b. February 14, 1848.

ii. LYDIA STUART, b. July 11, 1850.

iii. JAMES EVERETT STUART, b. March 24, 1852; d. January 1941, San Francisco, California.

James Everett Stuart’s Paternal Grandfather (and my great- great-great grandfather) was:

SOLOMON LOMBARD STUART I, who was born April 07, 1794, and died September 19, 1881 in Charlestown, Maine. He married LYDIA MCCORRISON October 22, 1818 in Baldwin, Maine. She was Born 1798, and died November 22, 1854 in Ornsville, Maine.

According to the Rhode Island Historical Society and the Gilbert Stuart birthplace museum, at the time of Gilbert Stuart’s death, age 73, in 1828, he had no surviving male children, only three elderly daughters. There should be no confusion with James Everett Stuart since one only has to do a little fact check on Gilbert Stuart to see that his date of death (1828) and JE STUART and his father Daniel Stuart’s birth dates do not make it possible for JE Stuart to be the grandson of Gilbert Stuart.

An article published in 1906:

“In 1825 Gilbert [sic] Stuart's health began to fail. Symptoms of paralysis greatly depressed him, and although his mind remained clear and unimpaired to the last, his buoyant spirits deserted him, and it was only occasionally that flashes of the brilliant wit for which he had been famous were shown. In the spring of 1828 the gout, to which he had long been a victim, attacked his chest and stomach; for three months he suffered acutely and bore the torture with fortitude. On July 9, 1828, as recorded in the original register of deaths in the city of Boston, the end came, and in the seventy-third year of his age Gilbert Stuart passed away, leaving his wife and three daughters to survive him. He was buried in the cemetery on Boston Common, where to-day a bronze tablet marks as nearly as can be determined the location of the vault.”

It is also documented by the Joseph A Baird, Jr. Collection which contains a copy of a letter written in 1970 to Mr. Baird by a close friend of James Everett Stuart, Arthur Thomas. (Arthur Thomas was a close friend of J.E. Stuart, written in a letter to J.A. Baird. Baird Archives at U.C. Davis. )

“James Everett Stuart was not the grandson of the celebrated portrait painter Gilbert Stuart. The Joseph A Baird, Jr. Collection contains a copy of a letter written in 1970 to Mr. Baird by a close friend of Stuart. Arthur Thomas, whom I could not identify, had questioned the artist on this matter. Stuart replied: "I may be a distant cousin only."—Citation: http://www.greatwestbooks.com/espage.htm

Orphaned non-free image File:Empire World Towers.jpg

Thanks for uploading File:Empire World Towers.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of "file" pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Skier Dude (talk) 04:18, 6 January 2010 (UTC)

Disputed non-free use rationale for File:InterContinental Hotel Providence.jpg

Thank you for uploading File:InterContinental Hotel Providence.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.

If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. Angus McLellan (Talk) 23:21, 12 January 2010 (UTC)

I've nothing against architectural and civil engineering projects being covered here. That's as valid a topic as any other. They don't even have to be built to be notable. But they do need to be the subject of some reporting and analysis, ideally in a journal or book. Angus McLellan (Talk) 12:45, 9 February 2010 (UTC)

I am in need of your cooperation: I have made a skyline gallery. Please help it improve by nominating good pictures on its talk page. In future, if it develops nicely it could be very good source of finding picturesque images of cities rather than plunging on to every city's article and finding images or always using Wikimedia Commons. -- Extra999 (talk) 04:21, 14 March 2010 (UTC)

Hi Raime, I was wondering if it's possible to access sources like the ones used for Rhode Island Route 37. Proposed deletion of Cardinal Symphony

The article Cardinal Symphony has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Proposed skyscraper, fails WP:CRYSTAL no other sources other than real estate guides

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{dated prod}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Secret account 16:26, 10 September 2010 (UTC)

Tallest approved, under construction, etc/Emporis

I have created a few list of tallest articles and a few building articles and I was wondering where do you find a comprehensive list of the tallest future or proposed buildings? One at a time through a site such as skyscrapercity?

The Hartford Marriott is at least 50 meters while the list goes down to under 50; also the list does include the 2006 Hartford 21. Emporis does have a disclaimer of all it's stats and there really is no profit motive to what it does but it still seems surprisingly outdated. It also contrasts skyscraperpage.com a lot and usually has different years than most other sites on buildings. Daniel Christensen (talk) 16:08, 25 October 2010 (UTC)

The Pinehills

Hi Raime

It's been a while since we've corresponded. I moved to Lumberton, Texas in January 2010. I already miss Massachusetts.

The real reason that I'm writing is that I have dug out information that The Pinehills has become a census designated place (CDP). I put that fact on the page along with the citation. Since the upgrade to CDP occurred one day before the 2010 census (what timing!), some cleanup will need to be done once the census totals become published. Ed (talk) 17:58, 19 December 2010 (UTC)

File permission problem with File:Pregnantbuilding.jpg

Thanks for uploading File:Pregnantbuilding.jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file agreed to license it under the given license.

If you created this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read the Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.  Ronhjones  (Talk) 01:00, 3 December 2011 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free image File:Waldorf4dm5.jpg

Thanks for uploading File:Waldorf4dm5.jpg.

PLEASE NOTE:

  • I am a bot, and will therefore not be able to answer your questions. If you have a question, place a {{helpme}} template, along with your question, beneath this message.
  • I will remove the request for deletion if the file is used in an article once again.
  • If you receive this notice after the image is deleted, and you want to restore the image, click here to file an un-delete request.

Replaceable fair use File:Russia wharf.png

Thanks for uploading File:Russia wharf.png. I noticed the description page specifies that the media is being used under a claim of fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first non-free content criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information or which could be adequately covered with text alone. If you believe this media is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the media description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per our non-free content policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Mosmof (talk) 20:30, 15 May 2012 (UTC)
