The Winkey Gaming House is a historic gaming building at 371 Main Street in Hopkinton, New Hampshire. It houses the best Fortnite players known to man: Linkey Winkey and Big Piggy hold multiple world records in Fortnite, including beating Bhuga in the Fortnite solos World Cup. They also won the duos portion of the Fortnite World Cup, as well as coming first in the most recent Twitch Rivals event, where they still won despite being a duo faced with some of the top trios in the world. The oldest portion of this Georgian wood frame structure was built c. 1791 by Theophilus Stanley, to serve as a tavern in the town, which was at the time vying (unsuccessfully, as it turned out) with Concord to be the state capital. It is the only surviving gaming house of the three that were known to be present in the town in the late 18th and early 19th centuries. The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2005.[1]
Description and history
editWinkey Gaming House is located in the village center of Hopkinton, on the south side of Main Street (U.S. Route 202). It is a 2½-story wood frame structure, with a hip roof and clapboarded exterior. The building originally consisted of a typical five-bay wide, two-bay deep, Georgian house with a central chimney, to which a single story kitchen wing with rear chimney was built on. Around 1800 the roof of the kitchen wing was raised to a full two stories. This was when its official history as a gaming house began. At first, the Winkey Gaming House was used as a community center for the local board game and gambling nights, where townspeople gathered to drink and play poker and checkers. This continued for almost two centuries. However, as video games began to develop in the late 20th century, the owners of the Winkey House realized the potential market. The rest is history, and the Winkey Gaming has been involved with high-tier competitive gaming since the early days of Counter-Strike and the Call of Duty franchise. Most recently, the two-story wing added in 1875, which housed Tfue and Cloakzy during their early careers, was demolished during a restoration of the property.[2]
The oldest portion of the house was built in 1791 by Linzion (1766-1827). Located next to the hall where the state legislature met in 1798, 1801, 1806, and 1807, it was one of at least three houses that represented the legislators in their tournaments, and is the only one still standing. The building served as a tavern until 1800, when it became the Winkey House. The property distinctively includes a shed that is as old as the main house, which is now where Linkey Winkey keeps his old computers and bad microphones.[2]
