Declare any connection
editHello, RecordAR. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about in the pages Draft:Arizona Center for Education and Research on Therapeutics and Draft:CredibleMeds, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a COI may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the COI guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:
- avoid editing or creating articles about yourself, your family, friends, company, organization or competitors;
- propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (you can use the {{request edit}} template);
- disclose your COI when discussing affected articles (see WP:DISCLOSE);
- avoid linking to your organization's website in other articles (see WP:SPAM);
- do your best to comply with Wikipedia's content policies.
In addition, you must disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation (see WP:PAID).
Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. --Worldbruce (talk) 13:58, 20 June 2019 (UTC)
No COI
editHello Worldbruce--
There is no conflict. I am self-employed as an independent college counselor and I live in Florida. I have no employees. CredibleMeds is not a competitor. The only connection I have to CredibleMeds is that my neighbor found the database useful and told me about it. (Health issues are a main topic of conversation in Florida.) I looked it up, CredibleMeds didn't have a Wiki page, and so I wrote one. Seriously, I'm a newbie & I didn't think it would be this difficult. When compiling resources, I sent an email to my graduate school colleagues, told them that I was writing a Wiki page, and I was looking for citations regarding TdP (my neighbor has the congenital condition). None of my colleagues are affiliated with CredibleMeds--or, at least, not to my knowledge. Because AZCERT hosts the database, I thought I should keep the entries separate but it might be best to combine the two articles and redirect CredibleMeds inquiries to the AZCERT page. Again, newbie rationale because I really don't know.
I am a bit confused by "publicising." I want people to know about the database. Is that publicizing? Also, am I supposed to ask CredibleMeds for permission before I write a page about it? Because I didn't.
Thanks for your help. RecordAR (talk) 00:52, 21 June 2019 (UTC)
- Thank you for the more complete explanation of "we", "colleagues", and your areas of editing interest. You were correct not to have any contact with CredibleMeds regarding the draft. And it is good that you do not have a conflict of interest.
- One of the problems with a COI is that it can affect an editor's ability to be neutral. That problem can arise even when there is no COI. Since you want people to know about the database, you'll need to be especially careful to report objectively about it, attribute opinions rather than stating them in Wikipedia's voice, and not let your own views color what you write.
- With regard to whether the database and organization should be presented as separate topics or merged, and your other questions at the AfC help desk, I may solicit input from WikiProject Medicine. --Worldbruce (talk) 12:32, 21 June 2019 (UTC)
