Blocking

edit

Hello! I just was blocked for updating the Renegade Craft Fair page with current dates/schedule info for 2016 which is all correct. I am not sure why I was blocked, but if there is specific information which is promotional in nature please let me know and I can change. Thanks, Mat 19:20, 1 February 2016 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Renegadecraft (talkcontribs) 19:21, 1 February 2016‎ (UTC)Reply

No you were not blocked for updating the renegade craft fair page with current dates/schedule info for 2016. You were blocked for a username violation. See Wikipedia:Username policy for Wikipedia's username policy. If you look at the section on promotional names you will see that usernames that unambiguously represent the name of a company, group, institution or product are not allowed. That is what your username does. You also obviously have a conflict of interest with the article you are editing. I suggest you read our guide on managing your conflict of interest, Wikipedia:Plain and simple conflict of interest guide. -- GB fan 19:32, 1 February 2016 (UTC)Reply

Welcome to Wikipedia. Because we have a policy against usernames which give the impression that the account represents a group, organization or website, I have blocked this account; please take a moment to create a new account with a username that represents only yourself as an individual and which complies with our username policy.

You should also read our conflict of interest guideline and be aware that promotional editing is not acceptable regardless of the username you choose.

If your username does not represent a group, organization or website, you may appeal this username block by adding the text {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}} at the bottom of your talk page.

You may simply create a new account, but you may prefer to change your username to one that complies with our username policy, so that your past contributions are associated with your new username. If you would prefer to change your username, you may appeal this username block by adding the text {{unblock-un|new username|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}} at the bottom of your talk page. Thank you. -- GB fan 18:54, 1 February 2016 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for your assistance!

Request reason:

Hello! I am very concerned about this block of Renegade Craft Fair listing on Wikipedia. The listing is only informational and not used for promotions in any way. If I have done anything in my recent edits to offend please know it was in error. I only want to use/update this page with new/factual details about this event.

Decline reason:

Despite your claims of non-promotional nature of your edits, stuff like "We strive to keep our events approachable and relevant to emergent and established makers alike, focusing on the highest quality and newest voices" is nowhere near what is expected of an encyclopedia article. It's an advertisement. Max Semenik (talk) 04:45, 5 February 2016 (UTC)Reply

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

Advertising-only account

edit

You have been blocked indefinitely from editing, because this account has been used only for advertising or promotion, which is contrary to Wikipedia's content policy. Also, your username indicates that the account represents a business or other organisation or group, which is against Wikipedia's policy: an account is for an individual, not a group. Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, not a free advertising service.

If you intend to make useful contributions about some topic other than your business or organisation, you may request an unblock. To do so, post the text {{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}} at the bottom of this page. Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with a new username you are willing to use. See Special:CentralAuth to search for available usernames. Your new username will need to meet our username policy. Replace the text "Your reason here" with your reason to be unblocked. In this reason, you must:

  • Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the kind of edits for which you were blocked.
  • Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked.
If you believe this block was made in error, you may appeal this block by adding the text {{unblock|Your reason here}} below, but you should read the guide to appealing blocks first.

{{unblock|I understand that elements of the page Renegade Craft Fair have been deemed promotional in nature. I would be happy to address and edit the page so it can remain up on the site. I no longer am using the username Renegadecraft. I promise to fix any problematic copy on the page. Orphaned non-free image File:RCF-logo-halfmoon.jpg

edit

Thanks for uploading File:RCF-logo-halfmoon.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described in the criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. --B-bot (talk) 04:17, 6 February 2016 (UTC)Reply
