Meh, that's tame. There's Fosters and Avatar: The Last Airbender hentai out there - and even that's tame, but *cowers in fetal position*.

Oh, and on image backlogs, have fun. I deleted about 200 ORFUs about a year ago, tiring, and I got complaints (on IRC). Will 13:07, 7 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Yeah. Most of the A:TLA hentai I've seen is Zutara (so we better not let Oreos know, the rabid Avatar fangirl she is). By the way, I saw your music additions. Kudos on the Soul Meets Body, that's becoming my favourite song by Death Cab (and it's my favourite from Plans). Will 13:13, 7 April 2007 (UTC)Reply
Yeah, that's one of the old lot... I've scoured every Death Cab song, but Soul Meets Body will never be beat, I reckon :) – Riana 13:16, 7 April 2007 (UTC)Reply
I used to really love I Will Follow You into the Dark (having a girlfriend who loved that song), but it's dropping in the "zomg i liek" scale. Will 13:30, 7 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Bobobo spam... again!

edit

63.3.0.2 (talk · contribs) is at it again with that spam. I've given him a last warning, and I'm going to try to do that blacklist at Mediawiki when I can. I'd ask to protect the page, but I know the answer: Not enough activity. And I have another theory: it could be Jelly Jiggler (talk · contribs) and Don Patch5000 (talk · contribs)'s IP adress. One and the same. Could you help with this? Thanks so much, Riana. Tohru Honda13 23:50, 7 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for the heads-up, Tohru. I guess the best way to stop them would be to get the site blacklisted. And the IP is, in all likelihood, the same user as the ones you've mentioned, who sent me a few rather rude e-mails a month or so ago about getting blocked. Anyway, if the site is blacklisted, hopefully protection will not be necessary. You can propose getting a site blacklisted at Talk:Spam blacklist. Cheers mate! – Riana 04:17, 8 April 2007 (UTC)Reply
Okay, Riana, I've proposed it to the spam blacklist. Um, do you know if I'm supposed to confirm myself on my talk page so they know it's really me? I provided a link to my talk page as my signature over there. Sorry, it's my first time doing that. Cheers Riana! Btw, that's a real nice name you have (I read the discussion below). Tohru Honda13 22:36, 8 April 2007 (UTC)Reply
Most Wikipedians will have to go over to Meta at least once in their lifetimes, so you may as well create an account :) But yeah, you can drop a confirmation on your talk page if you wish. And thank you for the compliment :) – Riana 02:06, 9 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Even better, we can take away their fun with slightly sarcastic, but helpful messages. For example, Mr. Chicken-sucking cigarette. (which reminds me, I've got some chicken in the fridge that needs to be eaten, and it's lunchtime, but now I'm rambling) Will (I hope they cannot see, I AM THE GREAT DESTROYER!) 11:13, 9 April 2007 (UTC)Reply
Yeah, fun sarcasm never works, usually goes right over their heads (as proven by 68, who hasn't given up in the past 6 weeks). – Riana 11:22, 9 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

The great thing about TWINKLE is that it removes any frustration in playing whack-the-vandal: hence I haven't insulted a vandal for months. Or even tried to get fun-sarcastic - though maybe some part of me misses those idyllic days of telling userpage vandals to FUCK OFF via edit summary. Any mail for me, Riana? Oh, sweet mate, wasn't sure how to handle that one, as you can tell. Do you want to put the FU rationale and stuff on the png? And it needs to be in Category:Wii media, too... I can do it if you want to. – Riana 11:50, 9 April 2007 (UTC)Reply
The server automatically renders SVGs into PNGs. I did the same with Image:Last.fm logo (crimson).svgImage:Last.fm logo (crimson).png too :) Will (I hope they cannot see, I AM THE GREAT DESTROYER!) 11:55, 9 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Hi Riana, I have a general question about the copyright situation. My archival shots of the Papin sisters were speedily deleted because they weren't mine, and that's ok. I have no complaints. However, I can't help wondering what the system is when I look at some of the shots that accompany various articles. If you look at the articles for Cate Blanchett, Rose Byrne, Jennifer Jason leigh and Amy Acker, you will see plenty of shots that have come from films and are obviously the property of the companies that made the films. Obviously the people who wrote these articles don't have copyright on the shots, so what is the situation? Should these shots be deleted? Sardaka 12:44, 9 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Hi Sardaka, I think you may have misunderstood my message and the reason your images were deleted. The reason those images had to go was because you released them under a restricted license, eg 'for non-commercial use only' or 'for Wikipedia-specific use only', something like that. Although this is still listed as an option when uploading images, we're not allowed to have restricted images anymore, because we can't guarantee that the use of such images will stay restricted to Wikipedia (lots of people use this place, so there's no surety). The images from the articles you quoted are, as you have correctly stated, the property of the subject of the article, or the photographer, or the actor's agent, etc. However, Wikipedia uses them under the fair use agreement, which allows limited use of low resolution images to illustrate something in the absence of a free alternative.
For your images, you will need to verify the copyright status, and whether you can release them under the GDFL license, a Creative Commons license, into the public domain, or under a fair use agreement.
Some useful links about images, not written in technospeak ( :) ) can be found here and here. Hope that helps a little, and if not, please feel free to ask again. Thanks, – Riana 12:51, 9 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Link: Parma, Ohio

I know this a bit late... but as to your question if semi-protecting was sufficient, I would probably have said no. The registered user is just as edit-warry as the IP; I'm actually considering bringing this to AN and asking for a community ban on the article, as this has gone on for almost a year. But, in any case, no feeling bad for the IP, who has purposefully not gotten an account in order to avoid scrutiny. Patstuarttalk·edits 22:13, 9 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Thanks, I realised that when I read the history more closely. Since there seems to have been no attempt at resolution between the editors it may be worth it to take it to AN. Cheers for keeping me posted, Pat. – Riana 00:31, 10 April 2007 (UTC)Reply
Patstuart, look, actually, if you look at the talk page, most editors of that article have been compromising quite well. Patstuart is completely out of line insulting other users when a majority consensus seems to be agreed open. Sorry your side is losing, but a lot of work has been done to improve the article and you shouldn't ignore the majority who is not warring but discussing things in a quite civil fashion as of late. Please try to be mature. Sincerely, --209.247.21.161 05:44, 10 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

RIANA YOU DELETED THE BOOK COVER FOR PAM PINNOCK WHY? YOU STATED IT DID NOT GIVE LICENSE INFORMATION AND IT CLEARLY DID. NOW I CANT GET IT TO POST BACK TO THE SITE. IT NEEDS TO BE THERE TO MAKE THE ARTICLE LOOK BETTER. THE BOOK COVER IS AVAILABLE ON AMAZON.COM FOR ANYONE TO COPY IT AT A PUBLIC DOMAIN PLUS IT WAS LOADED AND SHOWED THAT THE EDITOR WAS GRANTED PERMISSION TO USE IT FOR WIKIPEDIA. CAN YOU HELP ME FIX THIS PROBLEM????? OTHERWISE THE ARTICLE IS USELESS. THANKS — Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.15.39.100 (talkcontribs)

Do you know which image it was? Also, just because something is on Amazon doesn't mean it's in the public domain - I suggest you find out what that actually means. Your image is more likely to be a fair use book cover. Clearly state the source and the license, and give a fair use rationale, and your image will be fine. Next time you leave me a message, please do not use capital letters, I find it rather rude. Thanks, – Riana 00:35, 10 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

They were inspired by someone we both know. I've changed the wording to more closely match the uw-whatever warnings, but I much prefer my ones over the new ones. I find it too slow trying to find the right warning in that whole list of 50+ warning templates. I use a script that lets me type the vandalised article, select a warning level, and it fills in the edit summary line. Not that this has anything to do with e-mail. --Kyoko 13:37, 10 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

edit

Hi, once again I have to bring this page up, as it seems that despite my efforts to mediate the ongoing conflict no resolution has been reached and the page is still protected from all editing. I think that the user responsible (mainly) for this whole debacle needs to be pressured to file for RfC, which he has continuously threatened to do but as of yet hasn't. We can't just continue to let this page remain stagnantly uneditable- it isn't fair to the rest of the wiki community. How do you think we can we move this forward? Should the user in question be pressured to file RfC? I would myself, but I'm not really an interested party with an opinion, outside of simply trying to move the situation forward. Thanks.--Jackbirdsong 22:57, 11 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

As a side note, could you please semi-protect the Susan B. Anthony page, as there is constant unregistered user vandalism going on over there (probably from high-school students mostly)? Cheers.--Jackbirdsong 23:02, 11 April 2007 (UTC)Reply
Hi Jackbirdsong, I'll look into it. Cheers, – Riana 23:04, 11 April 2007 (UTC)Reply
Page protected, I'll look into the Galloway talk page in a few hours time, I have to duck out to uni. In the meantime, maybe you can ask at ANI? The page has been protected for way too long. Cheers, – Riana 23:29, 11 April 2007 (UTC)Reply
Thanks Riana- the problem is I don't believe Shamir1 or anybody else has even filed a request for mediation, so unfortunately there's no link (that I'm aware of) to provide you. Should I try to get this thing rolling myself and file one? I really don't even know how (I don't know what ANI is either- administrative network something? Can I buy a vowel?) Thing is, I really didn't intend on getting this involved in the matter, but I'm here now, so if I can help let me know. Cheers.--Jackbirdsong 04:34, 12 April 2007 (UTC)Reply
Impressive- that reply practically came before I signed my post. Kudos to you, speedyfingers. I added some to the sandbox- hope it helps, its just my two cents on the matter. Feel free to let me know what else. Appreciate the help. --Jackbirdsong 04:58, 12 April 2007 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for all your help Riana- I'm getting a vision...I see a barnstar heading your way in the immediate future...if I can just figure out how to give one. Cheers.--Jackbirdsong 22:42, 12 April 2007 (UTC)Reply
Just one problem now- I sent some of the other editor's at the page links to the discussion you posted on ANI, which now seems to be gone (I guess they don't have room to archive the page- it seems to fill up pretty quickly). So... should somebody file a request for mediation? Actually, I'm beginning to think that maybe we should just allow the info to be included in the article as is and see what happens, as I seem to be the only editor still discussing and fighting against this over there. There are still clear violations of wiki policies of neutrality in my opinion, but none of the other editors seem concerned anymore. Should we just let the whole thing go? I don't know what to do at this point.--Jackbirdsong 21:39, 15 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Your welcome. As for the un-protecting, I wrote on the Galloway talk page my intention to give other editors a day or two to raise any concerns they may have. After that, I will request un-protection and let the info hit the fan, I suppose. I tend to take comfort in the fact that the most unencyclopedic edits tend to unravel in the long run anyways - its one of the beauties of wikipedia. Cheers.--Jackbirdsong 04:44, 17 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Talk Page blanking on Chelsea Clinton page

Thanks for intervening. Unfortunately, the blocked user is now continuing the vandalism under an anon sockpuppet account. [2]. Could you possibly help with this? Eleemosynary 04:02, 12 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Hi, I don't think they're the same user; WHOIS data shows 67 to be from Michigan and 209 to be from Washington. Okay, thanks. It could be a meatpuppet. The new anon id has performed the exact same Talk Page blanking as the banned user 9 times since you blocked the other one. Here are some diffs:[3][4][5][6][7][8] Eleemosynary 05:05, 12 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

No worries :) – Riana 05:10, 12 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

This is not a fair block. First the comment you are protecting is a personal attack and the talk page is for constructive conversation to improve the article. If everything on a talk page must stay review the Zsa Zsa Gabor talk page, I wrote in wondering what she thought of her husband's comments regarding Anna Nicole Smith. Someone deleted it as gossip even though later someone added material to the article answering my question.

Second what about Eleemosynary deleting my comment that it would be a good contribution, if you check the history you will see that that user deleted it.

Please write something showing you understand the situation, how this comment is a valuable contribution, and how the personal attacks and deletions of Eleemosynary are OK. -- 146.187.156.202 (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · filter log · WHOIS · RDNS · RBLs · http · block user · block log)

Please note the twice-blocked above user, who has a history of blanking talk pages, and removing warnings from his talk pages, has once again blanked the Chelsea Clinton page through a third proxy.[9] Eleemosynary 18:07, 12 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

No way is your userpage boring - that Paisley - I could stare at it for hours - very nice. Yes really! Anyway just wanted to say hello.--VS talk 05:41, 12 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

  • Hi back. Well I'm not like intensed by Paisley - but saw you talking to Sarah and have seen your great work around the place and it was a way to say hi (apart from you thinking I must be some seriously weird editor walking around in a paisley shirt and a paisley tie - *which is not the case he hastens to add*)--VS talk 06:08, 12 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Matey, I was looking at your logs a few days ago and I think you're doing an awesome job, as I knew you would when I first offered to nominate you so very long ago. And I feel very proud to have been able to nominate you. :) Sarah 11:09, 12 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Thank you so much for the kind gesture, Riana! That was unexpected and made me smile just when I thought that someone was going to yell at me. Heh. :-) Kindest regards, Húsönd 13:49, 12 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

  The Thieving Magpie Award

For stealing a smile! :-) Best regards, Húsönd 13:49, 12 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

I saw two magpies a couple of days ago. I decided to read Wikipedia's article about them and discovered that the place where I live is actually the area of Europe with biggest concentration of magpies. And I also found this great pic, I just had to come up with some stupid award. Hopefully it made you smile as well, quite silly huh. ;-) Regards, Húsönd 13:56, 12 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Hey Riana, I don't mean to sound paranoid, but I'm suspicious that Future54 (talk · contribs) may be a sock of LegoAxiom1007 (talk · contribs). There's some erie similarities in their editing habits

Do you think this is sufficient for a checkuser? --Wafulz 03:55, 13 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for setting up the RFCU case. I'm going to go to bed and hope things clear up. --Wafulz 04:45, 13 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

mail from me

edit

Just so you know. I notify Wikipedians whom I e-mail in case they have multiple accounts (i.e. one for work, another for personal stuff, etc.), so they can check whatever account is applicable.

Totally unrelated, but just take a look at this diff. Things like this just prove what was said in Alison's RfA, about women getting certain... feedback that men don't get on Wikipedia. --Kyoko 04:59, 13 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Sadly, the only way to cut down on abuse is to be a white, male, Christian and straight user with no physical or mental disorders - and you'll still get abuse. It's sad to see nice people like you (Kyoko), Sharon, Riana, Ayelie, to get abuse for simply not having a penis. Enjoy the road tripping

I will watch hawklike over the devil. After this chap I'm a veteran of sockwhacking. The trick is to get checkuser to initially confirm your suspected pattern for you, and once that's done start handing out the duckblocks. Don't worry. Cheers, Moreschi Want some help? Sock Mistake

edit

I came across a user Iana-ray Zasta-day whom I suspect it was a Sockpuppet or impersanatior of you. So I actually Sockpuppet tag it [11] I didn't realize it was you all along. It looked kind of funny and strange and the talk page didn't have any thing but Headline texts. I thought it was against Wikipedia policy to have Sockpuppets as alternate accounts. Many users get there main account blocked for that. A funny user though. The Sockpuppet tag was removed though. Sorry. Take care. King Lopez Contribs 07:13, 16 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

That's fine! I prefer the term alternate account :) Those can be used as long as you don't use them to back up your opinions, disrupt activities, etc. It used to be more obvious from my old username (riana_dzasta) that the account is directly connected to me. Good work keeping an eye out, though :) – Riana 08:31, 16 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Fair use

edit

Me again on fair use. If I understand you (and the links you provided), if I want to use an image under fair use, I have to name the holder of copyright, then nominate fair use. Is that roughly right? Sardaka 09:09, 16 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Almost :) Name the copyright holder, the source (sometimes these are the same), a fair use tag, and a fair use rationale. – Riana 12:07, 16 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

দেরি করে ফেললাম, আলসেমি করেই, কিন্তু তবু জানাচ্ছি শুভ নববর্ষ। :) I hope the new year brings new waves of happiness in everyone's life.

BTW, if you can, do check out Bangla wikipedia. We are planning a CD release, of 2000+ articles chosen from our 15,500 current entries, by the end of the year. --Ragib 15:00, 16 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

The message looked fine. By the way, we have built in phonetic writing in Bangla wikipedia now, so you don't need to install any software. Just tick the checkbox above the edit window, and you can write in phonetic mode (which means, to write রিয়ানা, you'd only have to press r-i-y-a-n-a). The tool is experimental, has some bugs, but it is a good replacement for people who don't have any typing tools installed. As for a typing software for unicode, I recommend Avro. Thanks. --Ragib 15:12, 16 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

...I changed the word to one page of a celebrity-type a few weeks back...nothing rancid or vulgar, just for giggles still. That's it. Nothing else. I don't think I changed YOUR personal page. To be fair, I won't touch ANYTHING on this site again.

I haven't changed IPs...I don't even know who you are...however, this computer I'm on is one readily accessable to others in the building where I am (Kokomo, IN). — Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.210.2.43 (talkcontribs)

Hi Riana, just to let you know, User:86.70.151.83 has been tampering with your page User talk:Riana/Archive 15. Indian collaboration of the week news

edit

As mentioned in Wikiproject India newsletter of March 2007, the weekly collaboration of the Indian wikiproject has fallen from its once high feats. This message is to request the users to visit the collaboration page and help rejuvenate it.

The present collaboration of the week is Religion in India. Please go through the talk page of the article to see the proposed changes in the article. Regards.--Dwaipayan (talk) 18:45, 17 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Was I out of line?

edit

Hi Riana, do you think I was out of line to answer that anonymous user (see "Ummm..." above)? You know that your page is on my watchlist (and I've no doubt mine is on yours) and because I so love Wikipedia, I didn't want to see that person go away from it with a bad taste after reading warnings meant for someone else. I'm sorry if I was overstepping what I should have done. It's your talk page, after all. If you think I was being presumptuous, just tell me, and I won't do it again. --Kyoko 19:58, 17 April 2007 (UTC)Reply
