Copyright violation: has already been reviewed before.
Hi Rich
You flagged a copyright violation on Draft:Foreign relations of the Byzantine Empire. This is content that is written by me and copied from Greece–Turkey relations. The Göktürk section in particular already went through extensive review with Diannaa as per the talk page when it was first written in January 2022 Talk:Greece–Turkey_relations#Byzantine–Göktürk_relations. It's been replicated elsewhere in Wikipedia, such as in First Turkic Khaganate as well. Elias (talk) 18:54, 2 May 2022 (UTC)
- @Eliasbizannes: Thanks for letting me know, looks like Moneytrees sorted it - RichT|C|E-Mail 23:44, 2 May 2022 (UTC)

Declination of article "Bill Murphy: Irish Actor"
Hi Rich,
I saw that you declined my draft recently, and that you also left a comment on it: that the lede and the early life are unsourced. The other information I was given were that there was some issue with the inline citations. I just wanted to clarify exactly what it is I need to add/change so that the draft is article-worthy. It's my first time writing an article from scratch so pardon me for leaving out any obvious bits of information.
First of all, is there any issue with the references I am using, or the way I am using them? There are several references to newspaper articles by trusted newspapers, as well as sites like imdb and spotlight. Spotlight I think is written by the actual subject, but I'm not sure about imdb.
Also, you said the lede is unsourced, but all career work mentioned in the lede is referenced later on in the career section, and I've never really seen references used in a lede before - is there something specific in the lede that needs to be referenced, like the infobox containing full name, dob, spouse and kids? And then of course there's the early life which understandably needs references.
With this in mind I have sent the subject a direct message through Twitter hoping to verify the details mentioned above. Will this be considered a reliable source or do I need to reference something in the public domain?
I appreciate that you are likely busy and would appreciate any feedback you can give in your own time.
All the best,
Darkfall — Preceding unsigned comment added by Darkfall7 (talk • contribs) 16:13, 15 May 2022 (UTC)
- @Darkfall: I normally don't reply to comments regarding a draft decline, as most of the information is given in the links provided in the decline message, however your message to be is very well formed and not demanding, so I'll take time to reply.
- WP:BLP is quite clear that "any material challenged or likely to be challenged must be supported by an inline citation to a reliable, published source. Contentious material about living persons (or, in some cases, recently deceased) that is unsourced or poorly sourced—whether the material is negative, positive, neutral, or just questionable—should be removed immediately and without waiting for discussion", the way to think about this is to pretend for a moment that you REALLY detest Mr Murphy, could you find anything in the text that you would say "that's not right", if yes - it needs a source. Now it looks like you've added a source to Early Life, so that's fine. You are quite right about the lede, please ignore that comment.
- Sadly, IMDb cannot be used as a source as it is user generated content, much like Wikipedia it can be edited by anyone. I would suggest finding a new source to replace IMDb sources. You noted that "Spotlight I think is written by the actual subject", in which case they are primary sources and are no good.
- I also need to check with you, do you have any connection to Mr Murphy (family, friend, business etc)? Also, please remember to sign your posts using ~~~~ - RichT|C|E-Mail 16:24, 15 May 2022 (UTC)
- Hi Rich, thank you so much for taking the time to reply, and so quickly, I really appreciate it!
- There is no connection between me and Mr Murphy, I heard a radio interview with him about 12 months ago about the film Moving Target, which enjoyed a brief resurgence here in Ireland, and decided to google him, given that he was an Irish actor, and found that he had quite a backlog of work as a professional actor (I'd just thought he was a martial artist). Recently I saw he turned up in Vikings Valhalla and This Nan's Life and decided to try and set up a Wikipedia page as there was none.
- I have referenced articles for several of the plays, but I know that for some of them they are just from IMDB or Spotlight. I have found alternative references for them now. The films are referenced in articles as well so I think they should be okay? And is there an issue with the amount of references I have, i.e. should take any out?
- I have found Mr Murphy's date and place of birth on Vikings Wiki and Amazon.com, can these sources be trusted? Failing that, as mentioned above, I have direct messaged him on Twitter and am hoping to receive a response, would this suffice as a legitimate source for this basic information, or is it still considered non-usable? Or if I got hold of his agent and asked her if she could send an email regarding this information, would that suffice? Her page for Mr Murphy is here:
- I appreciate the help you've given me, rest assured I won't trouble you again.
- All the best,
- Darkfall Darkfall7 (talk) 17:18, 15 May 2022 (UTC)
- @Darkfall7: Thank you for confirming you do not have a connection to Mr Murphy.
- Again, anything from Mr Murphy or his agents are primary sources. Also, a stable policy is that of verifiability, so getting information from you private messaging Mr Murphy cannot be used as it's not verifiable, nobody but you has access to your private messages.
- That being said, if you can find an offical source (Mr Murphy's website?) that the personal-ish information, you can reference that as a 'this is the truth' reference but it will be ignored for establishing notability - RichT|C|E-Mail 18:41, 15 May 2022 (UTC)
- Thank you so much for clarifying everything Rich, it's a massive help and very much appreciated! I'll do my best to make sure the next submission is the one!
