Speedy deletion nomination of George Clive Wing
editA tag has been placed on George Clive Wing requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for biographies.
If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}}
to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you. Removing Speedy at George Clive Wing
editHi there Rippydog! I saw that you added a {{hangon}} tag to a page which you created, George Clive Wing. This is good, but in the process you removed the tag requesting deletion under CSD A7. Even though there is a hangon on the page, the deletion template should remain there. But don't worry, this doesn't mean that the page is going to get deleted. Make sure you edit the talk page of the page nominated for deletion, located at Talk:George Clive Wing, administrators will look at your reason why the page should remain before they decide what to do. Thanks - SDPatrolBot (talk) 09:43, 2 September 2009 (UTC)

editI have deleted the article, not because of any notability concern, but due to it being a copyright violation. Articles must be in your own words and not directly copied from elsewhere. You clearly pointed out that the material you added was from the "...main office at 94 (Feltham) Squadron ATC" that "bears his name and the article above...". However, before re-creating the article you need to find other sources and references to establish his notability. - We both posted to each other about the same time. I hope the above explains why it was deleted. Enter CambridgeBayWeather, waits for audience applause, not a sausage 13:09, 2 September 2009 (UTC)
- If you wrote the article that appears on your office door then you would hold the copyright to it and could do with it what you wanted. Enter CambridgeBayWeather, waits for audience applause, not a sausage 13:54, 2 September 2009 (UTC)
- I never said you couldn't publish it. The problem is that the bad guys tend to get more press/publicity than the good ones, making it easier to write referenced articles about them. Hero's do get articles, Douglas Bader, Billy Bishop, Guy Gibson and Wop May all come to mind easily. There are of course problems caused by a certain bias. First of all people seem to want information on villains rather than hero's, unless they are sports people. Pick up any newspaper or look in the biography section and there is much more written about people doing awful things than people trying to improve life. Second, it's grand heroism that gets the notice rather than the quiet hero's like George Clive Wing. The quiet hero gets noticed by family and friends and perhaps they get a mention in a local newspaper but for the most part that's all the recognition they want or need. They don't spend any time blowing their own horns. And that makes it hard to find the necessary references to create an article for them. I've put what you wrote at User:Rippydog/George Clive Wing so that you can see if there are more references available for him.
