Zoot or Manfred?
Dear Hammond aficionado, your name has been mentioned at Talk:Zoot Money#Dutch TV Fanclub, 1967, in a discussion about this photo from 1967. Your expertise at identifying models and notable players of the Hammond organ might be useful. Thank you! Martinevans123 (talk) 13:44, 14 July 2022 (UTC)
- Martin, my talk page doesn't seem to be as exciting and fun as it used to be anymore. Even Gerda has jumped ship. (Gerda, just because I don't reply to your messages, doesn't mean I don't read them and appreciate them!) Humour makes the world go round.... Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 12:07, 12 August 2022 (UTC)
- Martin? - Ritchie, you assume right, and thanks for telling me. Today I have a mass with trumpets, DYK? Yesterday, however, four remembered who died, and before a friend in real life, - I sometimes rather need humour than be able to spread it. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 13:08, 12 August 2022 (UTC)
- I also had COVID btw. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 13:09, 12 August 2022 (UTC)
- Sorry to hear you caught COVID Gerda, as you can see from the below message, I had it - but thank goodness I was vaccinated. Unfortunately, I don't think Martin's going to be with us anymore because of the CCI, I'm afraid. Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 13:32, 12 August 2022 (UTC)
- Somehow I really hoped that common sense had prevailed, - how silly of me. I mentioned COVID because you did, It was rather mild, and didn't stop me editing ;) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 14:04, 12 August 2022 (UTC)

Thank you for your wonderful close of the viola music deletion attempt! Should be with the September pic, but I'm not quite there yet. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 11:54, 1 September 2022 (UTC)
- No worries. I have a feeling that somebody might complain about the close, but the only other possibilities were relisting or No Consensus. I personally thought the keep arguments were much stronger. Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 12:29, 1 September 2022 (UTC)

- I don't believe I have ever an AfD I've closed overturned at DRV, except to get a reslisting which results in a different, but stronger consensus. I don't think this will be much different. Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 14:40, 1 September 2022 (UTC)
- If I nominated, I wouldn't also overturn, leaving no trace of a valid comment. Was just busy nominating our latest FA for TFA, - much more fun than ... - no, for politeness let we not say explicitely what I think of some of the narrow comments. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 16:04, 1 September 2022 (UTC)
- Did you see what happened after you reverted to keep? Why? I ask. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 07:06, 3 September 2022 (UTC)
- In the context, admin: I once wrote an article Ferruccio Busoni works, because I felt the list of his compositions was too detailed. That was moved and redirected, and the redirected article deleted, all by banned user Francis Schonken. Can we have it back? (I had forgotten the whole thing, but now that I wanted to use it as an example for a overview list and a rich list side by side, I was reminded.) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 07:18, 3 September 2022 (UTC)
- That article was lead hook, DYK? Wikipedia:Recent additions/2016/May, look for Busoni. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 07:22, 3 September 2022 (UTC)
- Even found the content: User:Gerda Arendt/Busoni. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 07:24, 3 September 2022 (UTC)
- Today, I have discovered I am older than the current British Prime Minister. I suppose it had to happen at some point. Anyway, I notice that on ANI, a thread to indef block Doug Coldwell (admittedly it's one I started) for pretty much identical reasons to Martinevans123. If that closes without consensus, it might give us a route to getting Martin unblocked via the standard offer. Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 14:37, 14 September 2022 (UTC)

Hi. I was wondering why you removed my addition to this page. I'm new to Wikipedia editing, so would appreciate knowing your reasoning.
Many thanks,

- Hi, we've had a number of problems with this article in the past, culminating in it being proposed for deletion about two years ago. Since then, the article has been cleaned up and cited to the best possible sources I can find. So, I consequently reverted your edit because a) it didn't cite any sources and b) it didn't seem an obvious omission or clarification that made the article easier to understand for the reader. By way of contrast, there has since been another edit removing two dates claiming the source citing them is problematic (which is fair comment) which I have left stand as it cannot be challenged. Zmbro is the best editor I know for all things Bowie and may be able to offer further advice.
- You can find more about citing sources at the Wikipedia pages for verifiability and reliable sources. Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 09:29, 14 September 2022 (UTC)
- Hi Ritchie, thanks for your response.
- My thinking was that it was useful to include the information that Roxy Music supported Bowie at the Greyhound, Croydon on that tour. It was just after the release of their debut LP and would have been an interesting snippet for Bowie and Roxy fans alike. I cited from a Roxy Music concert source, which was the most authoritative I could find. My other interest in this is that I actually attended that show. :)
- Anyway, thanks again.
- Quicksilver Baby Quicksilver Baby (talk) 14:18, 14 September 2022 (UTC)
- It would be useful to put in something like "The band were supported by Roxy Music at the Greyhound, Croydon on 25 June", provided we can find a good source (eg: any decent book covering Bowie or Roxy Music; unfortunately I don't have any myself). The problem with personal memories (particularly from several decades ago) is that they fade and get mixed up with other things. (Or maybe that's just me). Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 14:34, 14 September 2022 (UTC)
- Yes, I appreciate my own memories aren't a good enough source - just added that as an FYI.
- But - and I'm sorry to labour the point - I'm keen to include the Roxy fact. Would any of the following sources be considered appropriate:
- https://concerts.fandom.com/wiki/Roxy_Music (this is a wiki fandom site)
- https://www.pf-db.com/index.php?list=tours&choice=4343 (this is from an online concert database)
- https://www.pf-db.com/index.php?list=tours&choice=4343 (a specific tourdate search site)
- Thanks again. Quicksilver Baby (talk) 16:10, 14 September 2022 (UTC)
- I'm afraid they're all self-published sources so they can't be used. The best source is, in my view, The Complete David Bowie by Nicholas Pegg. I'm sure Zmbro has a copy of this, Drmies is another big Bowie fan and might have a copy, and if so, either could give us a cite. Maybe I should grab a copy of the book myself. Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 16:35, 14 September 2022 (UTC)
- Sorry, I don't have the book--I too should get a copy. Imagine, though, having been at that show. Ha, Bryan Ferry is still touring. Drmies (talk) 17:14, 14 September 2022 (UTC)
- Wait. YOU WERE AT THE SHOW? Holy moly. Wow. Drmies (talk) 17:15, 14 September 2022 (UTC)
- Yes, imagine at being at one of the early Spiders from Mars gigs where Bowie and Ronson are playing their absolute hearts out to try and impress the audience, and Bowie's still keen on the Ziggy Stardust persona, it hasn't got the better of him at that point. Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 17:18, 14 September 2022 (UTC)
- Thanks for the kind words Rich! Yes I do own Pegg 2016 (in print and digital lol). Pegg unfortunately doesn't say anything but lucky for us, Kevin Cann confirms in Any Day Now that Roxy Music did support the Spiders on 25 June at the Greyhound, Croydon (along with a band called Trapeze). (p. 257) If you need anything else just lmk! :-) – zmbro (talk) (cont) 02:08, 15 September 2022 (UTC)

Speedy deletion declined: Selling England by the Pound Tour
Hello Ritchie333. I am just letting you know that I declined the speedy deletion of Selling England by the Pound Tour, a page you tagged for speedy deletion, because of the following concern: The article is better sourced now than it was before, although that is mainly one source, and aren't band related sites, which was the main issue at the AfD before. Needs to go back to AfD if required. . Thank you. GedUK 13:53, 26 September 2022 (UTC)
- Actually, that flags up another issue, it is a copy and paste fork of Selling England by the Pound, so that makes it a potential WP:A10 or WP:G12. Thoughts? Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 14:08, 26 September 2022 (UTC)
September music
Thank you for your thought about getting Martin unblocked! - The rose pic was taken on 11 Sep 2021, and this year was full of music that day, Tag des offenen Denkmals, not only singing in church and rehearsals for Verdi's Requiem, but two concerts at special places pictured, one a synagogue (pictured on its wall). Today three DYK: a piece we'll perform on Sunday, a violinist we heard in June playing the Berg Concerto (my brother played in the orchestra), and a Youth Orchestra shaped by a conductor who recently died. Almost too much of a good thing. -- Gerda Arendt (talk) 17:36, 14 September 2022 (UTC)
Today, we sang old music for two choirs at church, pictured, scroll to the image of the organ of the month of the Diocese of Limburg (my perspective), and if you have time, watch the video about it --Gerda Arendt (talk) 19:21, 18 September 2022 (UTC)
... and today I wrote an article about music premiered today, Like as the hart. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 14:03, 19 September 2022 (UTC)
... and yesterday I wrote Who shall separate us? and today we enjoy Spannungen (tensions, sparks ...) - chamber music --Gerda Arendt (talk) 15:54, 21 September 2022 (UTC)
- To be honest, I couldn't face watching the funeral, it just reminded me too much of loved ones who have also died, both recently and a while a go, so I blocked it out of my mind and did some tweaking of musical gear instead. Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 21:26, 21 September 2022 (UTC)
- understand - I didn't watch it, because I was busy writing about the conductor, and then about the psalm setting - look for a new gear here: travel and strings sound --Gerda Arendt (talk) 14:32, 26 September 2022 (UTC)

can you explain why you deleted my edit? Olyus (talk) 12:05, 29 September 2022 (UTC)
- Sure. There have been a number of problems on this article, and a principal issue is edits that cite tabloid newspapers such as the Daily Mirror. The relevant policy states that such edits should be removed immediately and without discussion. Although Caroline Flack is sadly not living, her friends, partners and family are, so the policy does apply, in my view. I hope that clarifies the issue. Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 13:02, 29 September 2022 (UTC)
- Hi Ritchie333. I see two problems here. Firstly, the Daily Mirror is not on the list of prohibited sources on Wikipedia. Secondly, Caroline Flack is dead, not living. Having living relatives is not relevant I believe. The relevant policy states that at most information may be supressed up to 2 years after the date of death where it relates to a sensitive aspect of the death. In this case she has been dead for 2 1/2 years now, the allegations of abuse against a former partner do not directly concern her death and they are in any case well known.
- I suggest the information be returned to the article. Olyus (talk) 10:43, 1 October 2022 (UTC)

Roads
Hey! Do let me know (via talk or email, or even on the page itself) if you have any suggestions regarding how to effectively mentor editors, or critiques of what I'm doing at the moment. I've guided newer editors but never really done this before; I just surmised that no one else would step up. For now I'll be focusing on policy through miscellaneous exercises and asking them to interpret them, then going through road articles while surveying their contributions for WP:V/C/OR issues, on a bit of a leash. Ovinus (talk) 18:43, 4 October 2022 (UTC)
- Hi. I don't think I've really participated much in mentoring new editors at all to this extent. As far as I can tell, your questions are good. Part of the problem is that since a number of GAs and FAs have been written on a particular topic, and the overall quality has improved the general expertise needed to contribute has increased. While the WMF are still keen to press forward the number of articles created as a good statistic, there's been more of a grass-roots drive to improve quality - which is kind of how Roads4117 has ended up where they are.
- I know Worm That Turned has done quite a few mentoring tasks in the past, which have been reasonably successful. I can remember attending a workshop at the Wellcome Library in London, run by MassiveEartha, where I questioned the point of the activity afterwards - everyone was writing the same draft, while I spotted an improvable A7 candidate in CAT:CSD and said "hey, let's work on this!" but this didn't seem to the be what the task was geared towards. I have chatted about mentorship with WereSpielChequers in the past, and he made the salient point that you're effectively asking people to start a new hobby, which doesn't happen that often. Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 19:18, 4 October 2022 (UTC)
- Hi Ritchie and Ovinus, I have a welcome template with a bunch of training exercises that give a newbie the opportunity to make some early uncontentious edits. Template:Welcome_training. But having run and helped at many outreach events, some people need the opportunity to make easy first steps much more than others. I think that the best outreach event is one that is targeted at people who have already done some edits and have questions. Like how do you deal with an edit conflict etc etc, or how does this hotcat thingy work?. So when I talk to newish editors I try to steer them to where they want to go, what subject they care about - we've probably got a WikiProject for it even if it is dormant. ϢereSpielChequers 19:53, 4 October 2022 (UTC)
- Interesting! Well, this editor is not totally new and I believe they want to contribute quality articles. I want it to be a gentle ramp up, although yeah, road article sourcing is a bit of a yikes. I'm encouraging them to work on non-road articles first. But I'll need to familiarize myself with the sourcing on relevant road GAs and FAs. Ovinus (talk) 21:20, 4 October 2022 (UTC)

Ritchie, feel free to come in as much as you want - the time zones are completely different, so Ovinus can't reply for 6-8 hours. Also, thanks for sorting out the A68 road page - it was a mess beforehand and was likely to be mentioned on WP:AFD. Roads4117 (talk) 07:15, 5 October 2022 (UTC)
burning bridges
There was an oppose at my RfA that someone -- maybe you? -- characterized as calculated to ensure the person could never find their way back. They really wanted to stop editing, and they just couldn't stay away, so they did something after which nothing could pull them back in. I'm wondering if that's what happened at this RfA. Valereee (talk) 18:41, 11 October 2022 (UTC)
- (talk page watcher) If that is the case, I can't think of many more ways they could have gone about it and still cause the same level of emotional distress. Incredibly cruel. — TheresNoTime (talk • they/them) 18:46, 11 October 2022 (UTC)
- That would have been the oppose by Eric Corbett, who did so partially because you are a member of Wikipedia:WikiProject Women in Red. I don't want to revisit the literally years of controversy that Eric generated, but I had generally defended him up to that point in the hope that I could increase the volume of Eric the copyeditor and FA writer and reviewer, and reduce the volume of Eric the grumpy and incivil crank. Eric had previously banged heads with some of the more vocal Wikipedia:Gender Gap Task Force members and got topic banned for it, so he felt your membership of WIR was an easy target. He lost my support for his continued presence on Wikipedia at that point, as I suspect a few editors also did. He was blocked
for some unrelated incidentfollowing an AE discussion thread shortly afterwards, and then fell on his sword. He came back as a sockpuppet, Dr Horncastle, to oppose EvergreenFir's RfA, and then got really blocked. - (talk page stalker) (Sorry for hijacking, appreciate your original message was aimed at Ritchie333!) I thought of a RFA comment along those lines too and wondered if I'd imagined it, glad it did exist somewhere and I'm not just going mad (had a look to see if I could find it without success)! Pleased that the RfA itself doesn't seem to have been too affected by the comment too, looks like it's going well thus far. Also fully agree with TNT's thoughts. Mike1901 (talk) 18:53, 11 October 2022 (UTC)
- I'm sorry to say this is far from the first time I have seen somebody come face to face with the realisation that their transphobic views are not acceptable, and not knowing how to react. I have banned one person for this elsewhere on the internet about ten years ago, and I saw another rage-quit about a year ago. Another person again was censured for comments that upset a trans woman greatly (and that's the polite, concise, version); I think he too rage-quit before he was booted off. Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 18:56, 11 October 2022 (UTC)
- It's so bizarre to me to see this kind of objection for an RfA. I understand (not agree with, but can understand the point of view) the folks who are objecting to trans women in sports that are about strength or speed or height or reach or hand size, and for which in many cases there is an actual pie: only X members of a team are allowed. Only one person can win a heat. But adminship? There's no pie. I just can't even get my head around it. Valereee (talk) 19:58, 11 October 2022 (UTC)

- Seriously, I think it's human nature - fear of the unknown. It's kind of similar to how people in Britain with the least amount of immigration voted for Brexit to stop immigration ([1]). In my case, I'm fortunate enough to have some trans people as friends and know what they've gone through in life through conversations with them. But for somebody who's been bought up in a strongly conservative background, the culture shock can throw them into disarray. Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 20:06, 11 October 2022 (UTC)
- That doesn't surprise me. My sis, who lives in an exurb of Cincinnati and whose closest contact with undocumented immigrants is probably the people washing dishes at local restaurants where she's dined, worries about illegal immigration. - Today I discussed what to say for a DYK for Talia Or, and the reply was "Why not ask her?" - Well, I didn't (although I have her email after she kindly sang in our amateur concert), but just settled for something that connected a Bach cantata to Jerusalem where she was born, with a highly notable conductor - afraid though that the young people who run DYK these days may not have heard his name. - I wonder what Ziegler would say about the waste of time on her article's talk page. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 15:00, 11 October 2022 (UTC)

DYK for Toasting fork
On 30 October 2022, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Toasting fork, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that extendable marshmallow toasting forks were cited as an example of how glamping has "ruined" camping? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Toasting fork. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Toasting fork), and if they received a combined total of at least 416.7 views per hour (i.e., 5,000 views in 12 hours or 10,000 in 24), the hook may be added to the statistics page. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

RfC on the "denials" phrase in WP:BLP

Greetings and need some advice...
Greetings, long time we haven't talked with each other. I need some help regarding TRAPPIST-1; in both its FACses there were problems mainly with its understandability for general readers and prose issues and the peer reviews didn't resolve all problems. I am not sure where to go with these; being familiar with the topic I can't readily spot ununderstandable parts. Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk) 10:47, 6 November 2022 (UTC)
- I don't know much about stars, but I can have a read through the article if I've got a mo. Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 09:26, 17 November 2022 (UTC)
- Thanks in advance. Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk) 09:33, 17 November 2022 (UTC)
RSN
Quick question, but do you know what the outcome of the RSN thread on roads.org was? Just wondered if I could use it on an article or not? Roads4117 (talk) 17:05, 15 October 2022 (UTC)
- Hi Ritchie, how are you? I have noticed that you haven't replied to this message, which I find strange when thinking back to the summer, you were one of the first people to point it out when I did it. However, then I wasn't an experienced editor at all (not as though I am now, but I am more experienced than 4-5 months ago). Obviously, you may have not seen this, however I thought users get notified when another user adds something to their user talk page. Although, to make matters worse, when I had a look at your user contributions for about three of four days after I sent this message, I saw that you had been editing Wikipedia, which starts to make me think that you decided to ignore my message. Luckily, another user has told me the answer to me query, however in the future, can we please not be ignoring each others messages. Sorry for making this message extremely long, I just wanted to get the message across to you. Looking forward to hearing back from you soon, Roads4117 (talk) 17:22, 16 November 2022 (UTC)
- Sorry, I've been busy in real life and the only time I've had is to do a bit of content and maintenance work. Plus in this case, the RSN discussion appeared to have run out of steam; I'm not sure what the consensus is. In my case, I would use it sparingly, for extra detail and specific technical information, but try and use books and newspaper sources if possible. Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 09:25, 17 November 2022 (UTC)
- Ok then, thanks for that, Ritchie! Roads4117 (talk) 07:29, 18 November 2022 (UTC)
Apologies if this is the incorrect place...
I've come across an editor that is introducing unreferenced information at a lot of (mainly BLP) articles. [2] [3] [4]
I'm going through the edits to see if any more need reverting. User:Happydad69 has had 4 warnings but not responded. I'm not sure what else to do now? Thanks, Knitsey (talk) 16:52, 22 November 2022 (UTC)
- Okay, they haven't posted since your latest warning, so wait until they edit again - if it's another unsourced edit to a BLP, a block can be applied. Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 17:39, 22 November 2022 (UTC)
- Thank you. It might not come to that as they've twice created an article that has copyright material so I think it will be dealt with that way. Thanks for responding. Knitsey (talk) 18:23, 22 November 2022 (UTC)

- Yes, what we need to do is to complete the CCI, as that's the only way Martin is going to be able to edit again. I've got a backlog of emails from Martin I've got round to replying to yet. I need a spare evening. Or a secretary. Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 11:55, 22 November 2022 (UTC)
- Thank you for you do, - I hardly get to the things I feel I want to do (update the 3 concerts, for example). Thanksgiving in the U.S. - Bach said it in music for peace --Gerda Arendt (talk) 11:36, 24 November 2022 (UTC)

Revdel request
As it is probably more likely to be cyberbullying than advertising, I guess that this edit
should be revdelled. I have already reverted. I guess it is marginal so please let me know for future reference how seriously we should take such things. 𝕁𝕄𝔽 (talk) 12:08, 29 November 2022 (UTC)
- @John Maynard Friedman: I've suppressed that edit. Please report anything like that to the oversight team (see WP:RFO for how) so we can get rid of it. Thanks, HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 12:14, 29 November 2022 (UTC)

Faversham pages
Hi Ritchie - there are a group of us in Faversham who are working on the pages. We are planning on uploading lots of old photos from the archives to the site as well as making some edits to the page. Cheers! Secker.jane (talk) 21:22, 9 December 2022 (UTC)
- Okay, just remember to make sure the edits (unless they're connecting spelling / grammar errors) are reliably sourced. Might be nice to put something in about the Hop Festival, as there doesn't seem to be anything there (I've played as one of the bands at the festival for several years). Carolyn Grace
Having promoted the hook for Carolyn Grace to Queue 2, I have altered it. The original hook may well be true, but the information is not included in the article, a necessity for DYK. Cwmhiraeth (talk) 11:17, 20 December 2022 (UTC)
- Huh? The DYK nomination cites the source containing it verbatim. Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 14:12, 20 December 2022 (UTC)
- It's not in the article and that is what matters. You could add it to the article, and then we could go back to the approved hook (which should not have been approved!) Cwmhiraeth (talk) 17:05, 20 December 2022 (UTC)

DYK for Carolyn Grace
On 22 December 2022, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Carolyn Grace, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that Carolyn Grace was the only qualified female pilot of the Supermarine Spitfire ever to take part in display flying? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Carolyn Grace. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Carolyn Grace), and the hook may be added to the statistics page after its run on the Main Page has completed. - I would leave the sanctions in place for a little longer. Although consensus has been reached over the infobox contents, it's quite recent, and experience has told me it might be a while longer before a dispute or disagreement turns up. Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 12:15, 2 January 2023 (UTC)
- Go ahead, only: I haven't seen a single removal of an infobox after an RfC. With a compromise, it's at peace, and without, it's not. LO was really the bottom of those. Remember that I was taken to AE because I dared to ask if it's really the principal editors who decide. Is it, or not, - that and nothing else is the question. I hope to get answered in 2023, because 10 years are enough. Ich habe genug ;) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 12:32, 2 January 2023 (UTC)
