Speedy deletion nomination of File:VxWorks Logo.png
editA tag has been placed on File:VxWorks Logo.png requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the image is an unused redundant copy (all pixels the same or scaled down) of an image in the same file format, which is on Wikipedia (not on Commons), and all inward links have been updated.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Stefan2 (talk) 22:24, 14 June 2014 (UTC)

Disambiguation link notification for June 18
editHi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited VxWorks, you added links pointing to the disambiguation pages VRTX and Wind River (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

editWelcome to Wikipedia, and thank you for your contributions. Although everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia, please note that there is a Manual of Style that should be followed to maintain a consistent, encyclopedic appearance. Deviating from this style, as you did in VxWorks, disturbs uniformity among articles and may cause readability or accessibility problems. Please take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia. Thank you. Theroadislong (talk) 17:43, 20 June 2014 (UTC)
Welcome!
editAside from mucking about with the welcome template I stuffed up there, Wikipedia:A Primer for newcomers is a great source of information; H:Cheatsheet and H:MARKUP are helpful as well. --dsprc [talk] 18:03, 20 June 2014 (UTC)

editThank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. I noticed your recent edit to VxWorks does not have an edit summary. Please provide one before saving your changes to an article, as the summaries are quite helpful to people browsing an article's history.
The edit summary appears in:
- User contributions
- Recent changes
- Watchlists
- Revision differences
- IRC channels
- Related changes
- New pages list and
- Article editing history
Please use the edit summary to explain your reasoning for the edit, or a summary of what the edit changes. Thanks! Theroadislong (talk) 21:54, 20 June 2014 (UTC)

editPlease stop your disruptive editing, as you did at VxWorks. Your edits have been reverted or removed.
- If you are engaged in an article content dispute with another editor, discuss the matter with the editor at their talk page, or the article's talk page. Alternatively you can read Wikipedia's dispute resolution page, and ask for independent help at one of the relevant notice boards.
- If you are engaged in any other form of dispute that is not covered on the dispute resolution page, seek assistance at Wikipedia's Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents.
Do not continue to make edits that appear disruptive until the dispute is resolved through consensus. Continuing to edit disruptively may result in your being blocked from editing. Theroadislong (talk) 22:14, 20 June 2014 (UTC)
I was editing VxWorks to bring it up-to-date to its latest release. I unfortunately used the talk page to summarize changes but now I am using the summary space. Based on feedback after the revertion, I have re-written my edits and included references as suggested. I don't believe there should be a dispute anymore but will follow-up. Please clarify if I am proceeding appropriately now. Can you help me define what is considered minor and what is considered "Watch this page"? ThanksRobpater (talk) 04:03, 21 June 2014 (UTC)
Can you also clarify what disruptive editing you are referring to? VxWorks? Thanks againRobpater (talk) 04:05, 21 June 2014 (UTC)
- You have continued to use styles against advice in WP:MOS namely the trademark sign ® and introduced in line external links which we don't use, and removed incorrect formating for references. Theroadislong (talk) 06:01, 21 June 2014 (UTC)
Thanks, in my latest updates there are no trademark symbols, in-line external links, but what do you mean by "removed incorrect formatting for references"? Do you see anything else from my updates from yesterday for the VxWorks pre-amble and History? ThanksRobpater (talk) 13:08, 21 June 2014 (UTC)
- There are no trademark symbols and in-line external links because I removed them. You removed correct formatting for references and used bare urls instead. Theroadislong (talk) 13:20, 21 June 2014 (UTC)
Thanks. I removed the remaining trademarks and links in my sandbox. Re: the references what do I need to do? Can you point to one as an example and I'll correct them. Rob Robpater (talk) 14:43, 21 June 2014 (UTC)
Also on any new notable uses, can I use external links or only include those that are in wiki? I noticed that some of the existing ones don't have any links. Thanks again. RobRobpater (talk) 14:48, 21 June 2014 (UTC)
I checked references, I assume it was ref 9 which I corrected.Robpater (talk) 15:14, 21 June 2014 (UTC)
Clarification Theroadislong, why did you remove the sentence in the History section VxWorks has evolved over 27 years to meet the needs of a diverse, growing customer base, achieving over 1.5 billion device deployments worldwide" ThanksRobpater (talk) 16:00, 21 June 2014 (UTC)
- Because it sounded like it was written by the marketing department of the business and Wikipedia should be written in a neutral tone using reliable third party sources. Theroadislong (talk) 13:47, 23 June 2014 (UTC)
- OK thanks. (My intention was to give readers an idea of its volume as many people seem surprised (I got it from a 3rd party article)). Thanks for being patient, I have learned a lot and find Teahouse v useful and very fast. I think my next effort will be less ambigous. My expertise before retirement was carrier-grade and fault tolerant design for telecommunications equipment, and I am interested in how NFV revolutionalizes that. (Note: I may have accidentally undid a change you made, thinking you were requesting me to undo a change I had made (spacecraft) - sorry to create extra work for you). Thanks again, Rob Robpater (talk) 14:43, 23 June 2014 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free image File:VxWorks 7 Bootup Screen.png
editThanks for uploading File:VxWorks 7 Bootup Screen.png. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described in the criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Stefan2 (talk) 10:55, 25 June 2014 (UTC)

Infobox in VxWorks
editHello, Robpater
I see you are a major contributors to VxWorks article. Please consider studying Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Computing.
Also please be advised, {{Infobox OS}} does not support a |supported host =
parameter? (Anyway, what does it mean?) Also, |logo caption=
is only for emergency messages, not for the obvious stuff like "VxWorks logo". (Most people can figure that out.) You can study its documentation page to find out more.
Best regards,
Codename Lisa (talk) 01:21, 29 June 2014 (UTC)
- Thanks for the suggestion - I'll go through the material. Thanks Rob70.49.12.2 (talk) 15:10, 29 June 2014 (UTC)
Proper sourcing
editHi.
Pretend I am standing in front of a shelf labeled "Bloomberg" full of journals. Which one should I choose to find the article titled "Wind River Expands Hardware Support for VxWorks"?
Please use the "Cite" button in your editor's user interface to add reliable source metadata.
Best regards,
Codename Lisa (talk) 14:56, 1 July 2014 (UTC)
- Will do. ThanksRobpater (talk) 14:59, 1 July 2014 (UTC)
