December 2018

Hello. Regarding the recent revert you made to J. Holiday: you may already know about them, but you might find Wikipedia:Template messages/User talk namespace useful. After a revert, these can be placed on the user's talk page to let them know you considered their edit inappropriate, and also direct new users towards the sandbox. They can also be used to give a stern warning to a vandal when they've been previously warned. Thank you. Ifnord (talk) 03:52, 22 December 2018 (UTC)

Hi @Ifnord:. Thank you for the note. Lately I have been trying to use welcome messages that also address the particular issue rather than the warning templates in an effort to provide more helpful guidance (and note be "bitey"). Of course, it depends on the situation. From your perspective, do you think the use of welcome templates for this purpose inappropriate? I appreciate any guidance. S0091 (talk) 04:06, 22 December 2018 (UTC)
Very much depends on the edit and your personal philosophy. If it was the first-ever edit, and there's any chance it may simply be a mistake, I like to use a welcome template or a personal note. However, for anything else, I use the warnings in progressive order. It's up to you, patrolling for vandalism is voluntary. I will warn you though, it can be addictive! Ifnord (talk) 05:59, 22 December 2018 (UTC)
@Ifnord: Thanks! You are right, it is very much addictive! S0091 (talk) 06:03, 22 December 2018 (UTC)

How do i move my article to the main encylopedia

Hi S0091 - I can't find the move menu to move my article to the main article space. Is this because i am a new editor? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Megatrons minion (talkcontribs) 20:48, 6 January 2019 (UTC)

:Hi @Megatrons minion:. Yes, your account must be at least 4 days old and have at least 10 edit before you can move an article. Since you have some time, I suggest reading Your First Article to get familiar with the criteria you will need to meet. If it does not meet Wikipedia standards and policies, it will likely get deleted. Good luck! S0091 (talk) 21:04, 6 January 2019 (UTC)

Please clarify the reason for the revert

Hi S0091,

You have reverted my edits , can you please clarify. I have checked the existing other references which also pointed to their blogs but why those were not removed. It should be consistent in this case as well

Please check the reference #5: Padhu. "Peerkangai Thogayal-Ridge Gourd Chutney (thuvayal) Recipe". Retrieved 27 October 2017.. This reference also have the username padhu which is part of the website link mentioned but these were not considered promotional and it still there from 2017.

Can you please review and clean up those as well.Papisri123 (talk) 02:17, 10 January 2019 (UTC)

American College of International Physicians page

Thank you for the message and information.
I'm writing because I'm the Secretary of Web Affairs for the American College of International Physicians (ACIP) and just created the article/material to clarify that ACIP also stands for American College of International Physicians, however, it appears the material will be deleted due to copyright infringement (?) and we do not understand the reason.
If the material is considered copyrighted and Wikipedia does not accept it, then the solution will just simply be that we need to link the title name to our webpage.
In advance, for your time, help and consideration, we thank you. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mvgg6226 (talkcontribs) 17:59, 27 January 2019 (UTC)

I would like to explain why I edited a certain page

Hello, earlier today I edited a page entitled "Arca (musician)". I reached out to this musician on February 8 on Instagram, where she is most active, and messaged her, saying "Hey I was wondering if you would prefer the Wikipedia page for Arca to use Alejandra and maybe feminine pronouns." She later responded with "that's so kind ! yes !" I was ecstatic that she responded to me, and with enthusiasm. Arca has stated in Instagram live stories that she identifies with feminine more than masculine. She has also signed off at the end of a few of her Instagram captions with "alejandra", being her given name at birth was "Alejandro", and has even notably corrected a user after calling her "Alejandro". I, first and foremost, want to respect Alejandra by changing the pronouns in her Wikipedia page. I want to clarify that this was NOT an act of vandalism on behalf of Alejandra or Wikipedia. I ask for the permission to make these changes and for it to not be seen as hate or vandalism. Thank you. • Hi Miel.piel, thank you for reaching out! I have reviewed some of the most recent references in the article and did a quick Google search. It appears the references and media in general refers to Arca as he/him. Your best approach is propose your change on the article's talk page with your reasoning and a reliable source. Gaining consensus from other editors is required on Wikipedia for any substantial or possible controversial edit. I will strike out the warning I left you with a note referencing this conversation. Feel free to delete it entirely. Thanks again and best of luck! S0091 (talk) 21:59, 9 February 2019 (UTC)

Re: Truth (anti-tobacco campaign)

Hi there- I just wanted to clarify that the edits I made required no additional citations as the information came directly from the source already listed in the citation directly after my added statement. For example, when I added that the authors of the study had been employed by the organization being studied, this was a piece of information disclosed explicitly in the study itself. LDP1995 (talk) 00:15, 18 February 2019 (UTC)

  • Thanks for the explanation. I did look at the references but missed those statements. Please accept my apologies. I do have another question. You removed a couple references from reliable sources (CDC, etc.) and added citation needed tags. What was your reasoning? In any event, I recommend using an edit summary to help other editors understand the intention of your changes. If any other editors revert your changes, I suggest making your proposal on the article's talk page so you can gain consensus. Thanks again for the note and happy editing! An issue with the title for the english version of the article about Civilizacion Caral (wrongly named "Norte Chico Civilization")

Hello. i found that you just undid a change i recently made in the "Norte Chico Civilization" article.

"Norte Chico" IS NOT the name of this Civilization. Norte Chico ("Small North") is the colloquial and diffuse term that we peruvians use to name any place in the mid-north area of the peruvian coast, and it's a extremely vague word. There's not a single peruvian historian that use "Norte Chico" to refer to this civilization. Plus, it's even insulting that you're just ignoring the way we locals call this culture. PLEASE, correct this error, "Norte Chico" is not an academic nor serious geographical category. The proper name is Caral Civilization.

Cheers. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Danielvelizotani (talkcontribs) 23:11, 26 February 2019 (UTC)

Take a look into this news article, i hope you understand spanish: https://elcomercio.pe/vamos/7-atractivos-norte-chico-debes-conocer-noticia-527149

As you can see, Norte Chico is a very vast region, not an specific place. You can say Caral is located in the Norte Chico area, but there's many other villages, places and cities located in this huge region.

@Danielvelizotani: If you want the title of the article changed, please take your proposal on the article's talk page so you can gain consensus. You might be able to start a move discussion. Before you make your proposal, please first read WP:TITLE. Thanks and happy editing! S0091 (talk) 23:23, 26 February 2019 (UTC)
@Danielvelizotani: Whether any Peruvians call it by that name is irrelevant: what matters for the English language Wikipedia is what it is called by reliable sources published in English. We don't have an article on Deutschland. Breaking sticks (talk) 23:34, 26 February 2019 (UTC)
@Breaking sticks: It's NOT irrelevant given the explanation i have just exposed. Norte Chico is a vague term with no exact meaning, an almost perfect "flatus voci". There is just not a single motive to use that term, in first place, it's completely random and deminishes the academic rigor of the mentioned article.
@Danielvelizotani: It appears you have posted your argument on the article's talk page so that is where the discussion should take place. A couple tips, don't forget to sign your name using the four tildes and since you have an account it's probably best to log in going forward rather than under your IP address (see WP:SOCK). You seem to be doing well editing talk pages, but just in case, Help: Talk pages has some great guidance. S0091 (talk) 00:21, 27 February 2019 (UTC)

I want to explain why I removed content from the part concerning the origin of the concept of chivalry

I have to disagree with you about the moorish influence on the development of the European chivalry.

Firstly you write : "Medieval Europe, particularly Spanish poets, were greatly influenced by Arabic literature. The literature of chivalry, bravery, figurative expression, and imagery made its way to Western literature through Arabic literature in Andalusia in particular. The famous Spanish author Vicente Blasco says: "Europe did not know chivalry, or its adopted literature or sense of honour before the arrival of Arabs in Andalusia and the wide presence of their knights and heroes in the countries of the south."

The Arabian origin of European chivalry is an ancient marginal theory from the 19th century debunked long time ago by the scholars. No today historians support this statement. Moreover you use Vicente Blasco as a source, a big mistake. I have respect for him but :

-He was not an historian -He was an anticlerical and an anti catholic -He's born during a time when history was not an scientific matter but just an hobby without any methodology -The 19th century is the century of the orientalist who had an falsely romantic view of the islamic world

Secondly : the concept of chivalry is born in northern France (so very far of the muslim Spain) and take it's source in :

The German and greco-roman warfare -The church

So I will remove again this part because it's false simply.

Ps : Sorry for my English, my mother tong is French.

@Gelias01: First, no need to apologize for your English. It's quite good. To address your concern, I actually was not the editor that added the original content. It's been a few days so I do not recall the specifics but it appears you removed quite a bit of content from the article without an explanation in an edit summary which is likely why I reverted your edit. According to article's edit history, you removed the content again as you said you would but another editor reverted your change and stated in their edit summary to discuss on the article's talk page. That is the appropriate course of action at this point. If you are not familiar with the process, please see WP:BRD (Be Bold, Revert, Discuss) and H:TP is a great guide about how talk pages work. In addition, I have left you a welcome message on your talk page that has some links to Wikipedia policies and other guidance. S0091 (talk) 17:43, 11 May 2019 (UTC)

Void of Vision - controversy

Hey S0091, things are getting pretty heated over at the Void of Vision page regarding the "Controversy" section, User_talk:207.172.178.138 here, and on the page. If VoV want it removed does it have to be? Can you help defuse? You did good last time explaining to that other user about it. Thanks. Boofhead185 (talk) 11:25, 19 February 2019 (UTC)

@Boofhead185: I reverted their change because what they added certainly does not belong in the article and left them a WP:COI notice which advises them to make their proposal in the article's talk page. In the meantime, I think you might want to try to find a better source. I am not sure if Wall of Sound is considered a reliable source. I am merely a novice at determining such things, but the source comes across as "tabloidy" to me. S0091 (talk) 23:22, 19 February 2019 (UTC)

Please clarify the reason for the revert - ICR

Hi S0091,

You reverted my changes to the Institute for Creation Research page, which currently is edited in an extremely biased fashion (use of pseudoscience, inferred demeaning comments, etc) and it is very clear that it presents the ICR in a negative fashion. My edits kept the page more neutral as you were saying it must stay. Re: Please clarify the reason for the revert - ICR

Hi S0091,

I saw your reply, however I fail to see how the article is not blatantly biased by it's tone. The use of terms "pseudo-scientific" is the biggest indicator, as well as the rather irrelevant tangents on others viewpoints throughout the article. I am completely in agreement that one can put the term "pseudo-scientific" in relation to this article if they would like, however it belongs in the "Criticism section" (to reference your comment regarding opposing viewpoints). The fundamental problem with the way this article has been edited, is that the entire tone is not one of non-biased informing, but rather one of heavily biased and overtly anti-ICR or anti-creationism. This is the fundamental problem which by the way, directly goes against the founding principles of Wikipedia. 73.217.43.51 (talk) 01:49, 23 February 2019 (UTC)

As I stated in my response, your argument belongs on the article's talk page so please take it there. This is not to be mean or dismissive of your concerns but if you think the article is putting undue weight on opposing views, you need to discuss it there to gain consensus. As far I can see, it has already been discussed and consensus was gained so at this point and time the article should stand as it is. S0091 (talk) 02:11, 23 February 2019 (UTC)

February 2019

Re: Om You are wrong and you clearly know nothing about Aum. I can provide citations to establish that the long-running and widespread notions about "Om" are absolutely incorrect, that in its earliest incarnation the mantra was and was explained as being "Aum" (Mandukya Upanishad). What is not constructive is WikipedOians who know nothing about subject matter coming and, without any investigation into the matter, reverting changes made by people who do know. If you would like to continue this debate but without falling back to the predictable excuse of going with what "everybody says", please respond. Also, I was not logged in when I made that edit. My Wikipedia name is LordSuryaofShropshire. --71.251.1.66 (talk) 00:55, 25 February 2019 (UTC)

The issue is you did not add citations so your edit appeared to be disruptive. You are right, I am not familiar with "aum" which is why adding references would make such claims clear to even those that do not know. After all, Wikipedia is an encyclopedia. If you have references from reliable sources, by all means please add them. S0091 (talk) 01:08, 25 February 2019 (UTC)

What you reverted is not "disruptive editing"

An unnecessary page deemed a "rivalry" is impossibly partisan and could never be agreed by any fan of the sport. There is no merit in having a page separate to simple All-Ireland stats or figures that is branded a "rivalry" - those matches are available to read about for any fan who wishes. The word rivalry is subjective - either this page is removed or else it needs a wording as I've suggested, one which clearly states that the entire concept of rivalry is subjective and a matter of debate. Your censoring of a fairly simply edit which says that some fans of one team would deem it a rivalry, and others, of another team would not, is overzealous in the extreme. The fact you try to ban a person for suggesting this says it all about your attitude to the world's greatest free wiki and what it stands for in the face of legitimate edits from donating supporters of both the GAA and Wikipedia.

I have no idea to which page or edit you are referring. S0091 (talk) 00:59, 27 February 2019 (UTC)

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dublin%E2%80%93Mayo_Gaelic_football_rivalry

If you allow this page to remain as is - will you create a "rivalry" page for every single one of the 32 counties in Irish GAA, both codes? The fact you haven't even got a clue which page I referred to says it all about your overzealous dismissal of an edit which made a page more objective.

What you did was remove a substantial amount of sourced content from the article without any explanation in your edit summary. If you believe the article should not exist, the appropriate action is to either discuss on the article's talk page or nominate it for deletion so you can gain consensus from the broader community. Otherwise, your edits will continue to come across as disruptive and get reverted. It appears another IP made a similar edit back on the 21st which was also promptly reverted by another editor as disruptive. S0091 (talk) 01:42, 27 February 2019 (UTC)

Why Revert for article on SpaceX BFR

The correct name, as said by Elon Musk is "Big Fucking Rocket". That's been established by him himself

The references state Big Falcon. See NASA and Spacenews. Does sound like Elon to call it Big Fucking, though, but that does not appear to be the "official" name. Also, just a note, Wikipedia is not censored so if the it had been "Big Fucking Rocket', no need to use asterisks. :) S0091 (talk) 01:10, 25 March 2019 (UTC)

What do I aim to contribute? There are a few historic buildings around where I live in the Yorkshire Dales, UK that do not have articles. So I thought I would start with these. Best wishes --Craglands (talk) 16:29, 6 April 2019 (UTC)

@Craglands: It's really based on your interests so do what you find enjoyable. There is certainly plenty do around here.:) You may consider joining a WP:Project such as WP:WikiProject Yorkshire if that seems appealing. Also, couple additional guides about writing articles that might be useful are Your First Article and User:Ian.thomson/Guide. Happy editing! S0091 (talk) 16:54, 6 April 2019 (UTC)

Hello. Actually another editor reverted your edits, not me. However, I do agree with their actions since adding content based on original research such as personal knowledge is against Wikipedia policy. If they do have warm drink fountains, simply add a reliable source that substantiates your claim. Also, typing in all caps is considered yelling so please keep that in mind. Not quite a test edit. Just a misspell, since Shazam has already been released, and thus isn't an "upcoming film."

Moved message

Hello Thank you for the information. Are you able to help me create a simple page for our magazine called Boxing Action Magazine?

Thank you Jimmy Ayash 2035109581

@Jimmy Ayash: Unfortunately there are a few issues with your request. First, Wikipedia is an encyclopedia not a web host so contains articles about notable subjects cited with reliable sources not "pages" about things. This is a common misconception about Wikipedia's purpose. Another issue is it appears you have a conflict of interest in regards to Boxing Action Magazine therefore should not create the article yourself (or anyone else related to the organization) or probably edit articles about boxing. I will place a more detailed message on your talk page about managing a conflict of interest. Thanks for the note and asking the question. S0091 (talk) 14:18, 13 April 2019 (UTC)

Blippi content

I removed the blippi content because it has nothing to do with his current career. It is clearly being put there by a competitor to damage his standing within the community. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 189.6.25.133 (talk) 14:24, 20 April 2019 (UTC)

The content was actually added by a long time editor with no indication of a conflict of interest in regards to Blippi so I disagree this has anything to do with a competitor. The subject of the article is Stevin John as indicated in the first sentence of the lead and the background section. However, per WP:COMMONNAME the title of the article is Blippi as that the name most recognized by the general public. The content you removed is well sourced and based on the edit history has been accepted by the community. To address your concern, the best approach is to propose your change on the article's talk page with your reasoning in order to obtain consensus from the broader community. Thanks for the message and I hope my response has provided some clarity and guidance. S0091 (talk) 15:22, 20 April 2019 (UTC)

Page Pending Deletion

Hi S0091! I understand that some folks may create a vanity page full of superlatives and boasts. However, the https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Terry_Ann_Felke-Morris article should not be deleted because it is a factual article about an author of textbooks that are used internationally. It would be great if my publisher, Pearson Education (who took over Addison-Wesley https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Addison-Wesley) , had a publicist for their authors. They do not As an author of web development textbooks since 2003, I have to serve as my own publicist. I could have traded favors with a friend to ask them to create a page for me but I decided to be straightforward and just create it myself. There are no superlatives. There are numerous citations. I did not even mention that both textbooks have been translated into Chinese and Russian. I tried to keep it to the facts. So, I implore you to not delete this factual article. Thank you for your consideration of my request. TerryMorris99 (talk) 01:39, 27 April 2019 (UT

@TerryMorris99: I am not the editor that proposed the page for deletion. That was done independently from this conversation and without my involvement. Please follow the instructions in the nomination to contest the deletion. S0091 (talk) 02:01, 27 April 2019 (UTC)

Mariah - Glitter

Hi I didn’t feel as though the current consensus on the album needed citation as the statement reserved for general reception of albums on the intro paragraphs of pages is normally aggregated based on the reviews in the reception paragraph. The statement I added based on retrospective reviews of the album were based on the unanimously positive reviews re-evaluating the album years after in the reception section. I chose to add the line saying retrospective reviews were positive to aggregate the referenced reviews on the page — Preceding unsigned comment added by 80.0.98.96 (talk) 02:31, 27 April 2019 (UTC)

Vandalism issue

Hi, you have probably noticed that attempts to vandalise Mohun Bagan have been made multiple times and an unknown user from IP 128.8.202.25 is continuously trying to defame this page by using vulgar languages. So don't you think this page immediately needs the implementation of semi Protection? DeoxysX (talk) 06:43, 7 May 2019 (UTC)

@DeoxysX: Well, typically if it is just one editor and they continue, they are reported to AIV and are temporarily blocked rather than protecting the page. However, if you notice multiple editors vandalizing or if an IP continues even after the block(s) expire you can request page protection at WP:RFPP. I recommend installing the Twinkle gadget as it makes such tasks easier. If you not are not familiar with Twinkle, just let me know and I will provide you some additional information. Thanks for the message! S0091 (talk) 17:19, 11 May 2019 (UTC)

Reversion of Kapitza-Dirac contribution is incorrect

My correction of each appearance of ω_rec to ω_Rabi in the Mathematics section should not have been reverted. One simply needs to look at the derivation in the reference already provided (Gupta et. al.) to see that the original writer for the Mathematics section mistakenly confused the two terms.

Hello S0091, I started a page a couple of weeks ago named Mirza Azim Beg Chugtai about a famous writer from India. It still shows in Draft mode. What do I need to do in order for it to be finalized and searchable in Wikipedia and on the web?

question on John Gray edit rollbacks

Hi, I came across a recent (3 days ago) interview with author John Gray on YouTube.

Interview podcasts with article subjects are often cited throughout Wikipedia. This article has two citations which are listed as 'personal conversations'.

The YouTube video is here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SSLmEUzIDyU

The edit I wanted to make (the first time I've ever added to Wikipedia) was at the end of the Personal Life section.

"In a recent interview, Gray revealed he only left a meditative life as a monk in order to care for a younger brother suffering from bipolar disorder."

Could I request an understanding of why this sentence and the interview with John Gray cannot be added by you to this page?

Thanks.

@Bertj19: Welcome to Wikipedia! Wikipedia must take great care with biographies of living people so content added must have a reliable source. You did not provide a source which is why removed your edit. As for using YouTube as your source, please read WP:YouTube to ensure the video complies with policy (no copyright violations, etc). Also, please read the material in the welcome message I left you. There's quite a bit learn. In addition, I recommend the Wikipedia Adventure which is an interactive tutorial that walks you through editing (such as adding sources) and key policies. If you need any additional help, you can visit the Teahouse where experienced editors are available to lend a hand to new users like yourself. Happy editing! S0091 (talk) 02:30, 19 May 2019 (UTC)
@Bertj19: I see what happened now that I have taken another look. This was a timing issue. I reverted your edit before you added the source. I have removed the reference now since it was not placed correctly. You can give it another try. Using Visual Editor is the easiest way to add to source. Simply select the Cite button at the top and follow the instructions in the pop up box (paste in the link, then select generate). Apologies for the confusion! S0091 (talk) 02:57, 19 May 2019 (UTC)

Sources needed for Days of the Year pages

I see you recently accepted a pending change to May 20 that did not include a direct source.

You're probably not aware of this change, but Days of the Year pages are no longer exempt from WP:V and direct sources are required for additions. For details see the content guideline and the WikiProject Days of the Year style guide. Someone else has gone ahead and un-accepted this edit and backed it out.

All the pages in the Days of the Year project have had pending changes protection turned on to prevent vandalism and further addition of entries without direct sources. As a pending changes patroller, please do not accept additions to day of year pages where no direct source has been provided on that day of year page. The burden to provide sources for additions to these pages is on the editor who adds or restores material to these pages. Thank you. Toddst1 (talk) 20:19, 21 May 2019 (UTC)

@Toddst1: Thank you so much for letting me know! I will follow the referenced policy going forward. Apologies for causing additional work for other editors. S0091 (talk) 23:18, 21 May 2019 (UTC)
No apologies necessary! It's a new change and a lot of folks don't know yet. Please keep up the good work! Toddst1 (talk) 23:50, 21 May 2019 (UTC)

Adding a new TV series

Hi,

I'd like to start my Wikipedia editing by adding a new TV series to Wikipedia. I've spent a bit of time reading the tutorials, but to be honest I need to read a lot more.

Would you be able to refer me to the more pertinent ones? Are there templates for TV series? I'm quite eager to make a contribution. Thanks in advance.

@Benepasserine: Thanks for asking! The best I could find is WP:TV and related page WP:TV/TEMP. You might also want to pose your question to the Teahouse. I hope this helps! S0091 (talk) 23:20, 24 May 2019 (UTC)

Tina Brown revision in re VANITY FAIR.

What I wrote on 26 May wasn't a factual correction so much as copy-edit; as it existed (and as you reverted to), it makes little sense.

Previous (and reverted) version: Three stories appeared in Vanity Fair Harry Benson's cover shoot of Ronald and Nancy Reagan dancing in the White House; Helmut Newton's notorious portrait of accused murderer Claus von Bulow in his leathers with his mistress Andrea Reynolds with reporting by Dominick Dunne, and Brown's own cover story on Princess Diana in October 1985 titled The Mouse that Roared.

My edit: Three notable stories appeared in Vanity Fair which helped the magazine gain attention and circulation: Harry Benson's cover shoot of Ronald and Nancy Reagan dancing in the White House; Helmut Newton's notorious portrait of accused murderer Claus von Bulow in his leathers with his mistress Andrea Reynolds with reporting by Dominick Dunne, and Brown's own cover story on Princess Diana in October 1985 titled The Mouse that Roared.

Previous version more than suggests, actually states "Three stories appeared in VF", which is incorrect on every level, without suggestion that these were three key stories Brown was responsible for as editor and (in one case) also writer. (As it happens, without further explication that text was associated with the photos of the Reagans and von Bulow, those examples aren't properly "stories", but that is less inarguably wrong.) Also, the lack of punctuation in the sentence is at least jarring, where not simply incorrect.

Hence my making these changes without citing additional sources. TM

Hi TM. Please accept my sincere apology for reverting your change. You are absolutely correct, thus I have restored your edit and will strike out the notice I left on your talk page. Feel free to delete it entirely. Thank you for respectfully pointing out my error and your contributions to Wikipedia. S0091 (talk) 14:19, 27 May 2019 (UTC)

Dear S0091,

you recently removed all of my revisions to the article https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Diet_in_Sikhism because they included a citation of a non-reliable source. I understand the concerns regarding the source, and am happy to remove any claims that relied on it. However, most of what I wrote used the Sikh scriptures as a source and some simply used general common knowledge of Sikh communities. Given that the article is about Sikh beliefs and lifestyles, I think the majority of what I wrote is more than acceptable. Furthermore, the original article was actually biased and although it included sources, it cited obscure opinions from entire books and did not give the page numbers. I was simply trying to give a balanced view to an egregiously dishonest piece. However, I'd be more than happy to revise it to remove the unreliable source and will proceed to do so. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Nnihal (talkcontribs) 01:09, 10 June 2019 (UTC)

@Nnihal: I agree your edits where in good faith and you meant no harm, thus I reverted them as such. Please understand that general knowledge to you is not general knowledge to the world. I cannot speak to the content that already exists (see WP:OSE) but yes, the best course of action is to add neutral content with reliable sources. Thank you for your message! Non-affiliated edits

Hi S0091,

I believe you made a mistake in finding my edits to be incorrect. I am a journalist from Chicago, IL and attended The University of Chicago. University of Chicago sent out a newsletter covering sale of the largest residential property in Oak Park and it was covered by most news outlets. I was hoping to start my Wikipedia editing career by adding The International Mansion to Wikipedia.

In the article it also spoke about Enrico Fermi and the Fermi surname's Jewish Origins as well as the Crawford jewish origins, in that a prominent Jewish Family purchased the Mansion.

I provided references for all.

Please let me know how to proceed to put the edits back up.

Best,

Lily — Preceding unsigned comment added by Lilywilliams1212 (talkcontribs) 05:28, 30 June 2019 (UTC)

Hi Lilywilliams1212, welcome to Wikipedia! One of the issues I see are the references themselves have little to no encyclopedic value. One is the International Mansion website where they advertise their educational services, which is inherently promotional. The other, while a news article, focuses on the sale of the house not the history or architecture. Who owns the house now is not relevant unless they are notable per Wikipedia's notability guidelines (typically that means they would already have a Wikipedia article). One approach could be to just focus on the historic significance of the house, assuming you can find additional sources. I know you are new and not familiar with all policies and guidelines. It might be helpful to read what Wikipedia is not. I do appreciate you leaving me a message. Best of luck. S0091 (talk) 06:24, 30 June 2019 (UTC)

Response to your message on my hopeless first try at editing something simple

Dear S0091, Thank you for responding (as below) to my futile attempts to make a small edit. I just want to add my name (Ian Darnton-Hill) to list of Officers of the Order of Australia. I found the instructions really complex and would really appreciate some advice. Thanks and kind regards Ian

Hello. This is a message to let you know that one or more of your recent contributions, such as the edit you made to Category:Officers of the Order of Australia, did not appear constructive and has been reverted. Please take some time to familiarise yourself with our policies and guidelines. You can find information about these at our welcome page which also provides further information about contributing constructively to this encyclopedia. If you only meant to make test edits, please use the sandbox for that. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you may leave a message on my talk page. Thank you. Barrett Wilbert Weed

Hello, I noticed you undid that edit on the Barrett article today. That's actually the second time someone has added that name, and I believe it's a vandalism thing. I looked up that name they enter as her "child" and it's someone who is a big fan of BWW and calls her her "mother". I'm too new to wikipedia to know how to handle that but I just thought I would mention it. Apathyash (talk) 22:03, 7 July 2019 (UTC)

@Apathyash: Interesting. Thanks for sharing that information. I see they are an IP but their address changes and, like you said, they have only done it a couple times over the course of a week or so. If you watch the page, you can revert their edits yourself (undo button on the history page or you can install the WP:Twinkle gadget). Please refer to WP:VD on how to identify and handle vandalism. These type of edits do get flagged so other editors should catch it as well. If it continues to occur on any regular basis there are a some options, such as a Range block on the IP or requesting an admin to apply the appropriate Page Protection level (see WP:RFPP). You can also report the issue at WP:ANI if it continues to occur. The page is also on my watchlist so I will try to keep an eye on it as well and feel free to drop me note anytime. Thanks again! Received your note regarding the source verifiability of my edit. I provided two citations on the material that was provided. Its removal is unwarranted as per Wiki policy. I have filed for a review. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Karkati (talkcontribs) 18:31, 9 July 2019 (UTC)

French bicycle manufacturers

On this page is a list of French bike manufacturers (duh!). The list shows Jeunet with a link. The link takes you to a French movie director named Jeunet with no connection to the bike manufacturer. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 174.222.132.242 (talk) 03:27, 10 July 2019 (UTC)

Needing opinion

Dear @S0091: Because you are a user here that I can trust, I will humbly ask you to tell me your opinion about my first draft article, with I haven't finished yet. You are free to tell me your opinion, and tell me your ideas about it. I will post a similar thing to the talk page of Wikiproject Classical music, of wich I am member. I await your opinion, Enivak (talk) 13:59, 11 July 2019 (UTC)

Hi @Enivak: I am hesitant to offer an opinion because I do not have any experience with creating articles and no expertise with the subject matter. I will say I do not see anything blatant other than maybe some additional sources. I did Google and found an article on JSTOR that might be helpful but of course I do not have an account so was not able to really determine if it had some robust content rather than just a mention. Wikipedia does have a WP:Library where you can can get access to JSTOR and/or other databases/sources. I believe they also have active librarians that can also help with finding sources. If you do not get a response from a member of the project, you can always try the WP:Teahouse. The hosts and other editors that help out there are very experienced will certainly review your article and offer advise. Good luck! S0091 (talk) 20:20, 13 July 2019 (UTC)
Thanks! The reality is that i had never thought to ask help on the teahouse, i will try these things you say. I wish you the best,Enivak (talk) 22:03, 13 July 2019 (UTC)
@Enivak: Actually I see you have found Gerda, who is one of the editors that helps out at the Teahouse so you are in fantastic hands with them. :) S0091 (talk) 22:38, 13 July 2019 (UTC)
{[reply to|S0091}} yes he-she very helpful! Gerda even made a major copyedit for me, i think he-she wants to help me a lot with it. Actually, i made a request at WP:Library. Thanks for the advice of using it! Enivak (talk) 23:10, 13 July 2019 (UTC)
@Enivak: If you do not mind, let me know how it works out with the library, your article, etc. I am quite curious with how everything works out. S0091 (talk) 23:15, 13 July 2019 (UTC) (Fix ping @Enivak:). S0091 (talk) 23:17, 13 July 2019 (UTC)

@Enivak: Just curious if you find it helpful. S0091 (talk) 22:23, 15 July 2019 (UTC) Oh geez. Fix ping again. @Enivak:. S0091 (talk) 22:24, 15 July 2019 (UTC)

Removing forums as a source

Greetings,

I appreciate the reasoning for rolling back a couple of recent edits I made, which cited forums. However, I wonder if these sources are reliable in this instance. For example, in support of a statement that there are third-party ROMs available for a smartphone, I cited the forum where those third-party ROMs are available. It is the fact that the forum exists, and not statements at the forum, that makes it a relevant source to cite, no? Jonomite99 (talk) 00:55, 14 July 2019 (UTC)

Hi @Jonomite99:, please see WP:RS for what constitutes a reliable source. There has to be fact checking and editorial control over what is published. Forums, like blogs, generally do not meet that criteria. The fact they exist simply is not enough. S0091 (talk) 01:08, 14 July 2019 (UTC)

Thank you so much! I’m such a newbie. I apologize for not learning the ropes fast enough & putting the cart before the horse. I created an Imperial Spirits page on this account. I would like to delete the Imperial Spirits account where the page was originally setup. Ok to work from this account? Can the Imperial Valley Economic Development Corp. finish this up or add to it from their account? They wanted a Wikipedia page on the company & I was just trying to be proactive and set it up. Again, thanks for the help! — Preceding unsigned comment added by EdmundMasi (talkcontribs) 03:43, 14 July 2019 (UTC)

Hi @EdmundMas: As stated in the message I left you on your talk page, no company, organization, group, etc. is allowed to have a Wikipedia account and no individual that has any affiliation with a subject should create an article or edit an existing article about the subject matter. If those type of accounts exist, they can simply be abandoned. It might also be helpful to read WP:COMPORG as to why one might reconsider having a Wikipedia article. Thanks, mate. Also, side note. Any ideas on what's up with Humpty Dumpty? Cause there's a glaring error in the first paragraph that I can't edit since im a n00b. It's the "eighteenth century, 1807". Um, no, sorry, that's the 19th century, mate. Check the link you've used as a reference... even IT says 19th C... Anyway, if you could look into it, it'd be appreciated. I hate small, semantic, pedantic errors like those. --Ohyouretote-allychanginglives (talk) 13:43, 15 July 2019 (UTC)

Beginner's advice request

I want to create a page on a local artist, Dan Bustamente, and upload 3 photos. Two of these were taken by me of his public art. The third is of a sculpture and taken with his permission. Am I correct in thinking that copyright is not relevant? Or, should I declare them as my copyright?

Also, I can't find how to insert a contents box and 'bio box.' Thanks Der-of-three (talk) 17:16, 21 July 2019 (UTC)

Hi @Der-of-three:. Welcome to Wikipedia! I suggest uploading them via the upload wizard to Wikimedia Commons (see WP:UPI for instructions). I think you are probably okay if you actually took the photos but be sure to read the material carefully on the page I referenced. Also, before you make the effort of creating an article and uploading photos please read Wikipedia's notability requirements, in addition to ARTIST which outlines specific requirements for creative people. Since you state this person is local, it makes me suspect they might not meet the requirements for a Wikipedia article about them. S0091 (talk) 20:58, 21 July 2019 (UTC)

Beginner's advice request

Thanks S0091 for that. I think I'll hold back on this submission for the time being - on the grounds you mention. Bustamante's notability hardly extends beyond South Yorkshire, UK. After a successful exhibition or two, he may meet Wikipedia criteria in the form of media citations. --Der-of-three (talk) 11:12, 22 July 2019 (UTC)

Hello, Regarding Paulie Malignaggi WIKI

Hello Soo91,

So I made some changes to Paulie Malignaggi WIKI. All the changes I have made, were changes from Paulie Malignaggi himself. He asked me personally to change and make edits to his WIKI. Please contact me back. You can also email me Fromchicago312@GMAIL.COM

Any edits that come from me, have been personally asked by Paulie himself to be corrected. Any questions please contact me back.

Thanks!! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Fromchicago312 (talkcontribs) 00:11, 24 July 2019 (UTC)

Hi @Fromchicago312:. If you have a relationship with Paulie Malignaggi you should not be editing the article as you have a conflict of interest so please discontinue. I will place a message on your page with additional information. In the meantime, since the information you are adding/changing is not backed up with a reliable source, I will revert your changes. S0091 (talk) 00:26, 24 July 2019 (UTC)

Hello, Regarding Paulie Malignaggi WIKI

I edited Paulie page with Facts, there was no Opinion. A conflict of interest would happen if it was an opionion.

I edited his birth place, name, family history, where he was born, his name. Can you please leave that information?? That's all the information I really want fixed. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Fromchicago312 (talkcontribs) 00:43, 24 July 2019 (UTC)

@Fromchicago312: If you have reliable sources that back up your claims, you are welcome to make an edit request as per the instructions I left for you on you talk page. You have made edit requests before that were denied because you did not provide any sources. Wikipedia is only interested in what reliable sources say about a subject, not what the subject has to say about themselves regardless if it is fact or not. S0091 (talk) 00:58, 24 July 2019 (UTC)

Sammy Chapman's sons Campbell and Cavan playing for Wolves

Sammy Chapman's sons Campbell and Cavan playing for Wolves is referenced at the end of the article about his recent death:

Hello! A reference can be cited multiple times so you can add it back and add the in-line citation for that reference. Thank you for reaching out! S0091 (talk) 17:16, 27 July 2019 (UTC)

You are now a rollbacker!

Hi S0091! I've been running into you in recent changes patrolling and I happened to notice that you don't have the rollback user rights. I hope you don't mind, but I went through your contributions and I noticed that you're quite active in recent changes patrolling, and you consistently view and undo vandalism and disruption to articles. I believe that rollback would be useful for you to have and that you'd make good use of the tools. Instead of having you formally request rollback at WP:PERM, I went ahead and just gave it to you. This user right allows you to quickly revert the edits of other users in cases of blatant vandalism.

Please keep these things in mind at all times when using rollback to revert edits:

  • Being granted rollback is no more momentous than installing Twinkle. It just adds a "[Rollback]" button next to a page's latest edits - that's all. It does not grant you any additional "status" on Wikipedia, nor does it change how Wikipedia policies apply to you (obviously).
  • Rollback should be used to revert clear and unambiguous cases of vandalism only, and never used to revert good faith edits.
  • Rollback should never be used to edit war, and it should never be used in a content-related dispute to restore the page to your preferred revision. If rollback is abused or used for this purpose, the rights will be revoked.
  • Use common sense. If you're not sure about something, ask.

For more information on the user rights and how to use rollback, see this tutorial page.

I'm sure you'll do fine with rollback - it's a pretty straight-forward user right and it doesn't drastically change the interface you're used to already. Nonetheless, please don't hesitate to leave me a message on my user talk page if you run into any questions, have any issues or troubles, or if you run into a revision or situation where you're not sure if using rollback is appropriate or not, and I'll be more than happy to help you. If you no longer want the rollback user rights, let me know and I'll be happy to remove it for you. Thank you for helping to locate, revert, and remove vandalism from Wikipedia - it's a very thankless job to perform and I want you to know that it doesn't go unnoticed and that I appreciate it very much. Happy editing! :-D ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 21:27, 4 August 2019 (UTC)

Thanks for granting me the permission and the nice words @Oshwah:! I will share something you will understand. The edits I appreciate most while patrolling (other than the legit ones) are the little "hello"/"hi"s because they are truly saying hello to the world (i.e. "hello world") via Wikipedia whether they realize it or not. While I do revert them, I do not leave notices. Now back to the subject at hand, you have my promise I will use rollback responsibly. Thanks again! 22:05, 4 August 2019 (UTC)

A barnstar for you!

  The Special Barnstar
Congrats for your continuous promotions! I can see that you are a user that many trust. You also progressed in wikipedia so quickly, nearly no-one can do that! (I am struggling to get sources for my second draft and you are already an rollbacker!) If someone (or you) proposes you in RFA or higher, I will be from the first guys supporting you! (hey you are progressing too fast, leave something from me! (silly humor)) You really have future here! Eni vak (speak) 19:45, 6 August 2019 (UTC)
Thanks for the kind words @Enivak:. Ha! Actually, your future is brighter around here than mine. As you are finding, creating an article (or vastly improving an existing one), is the some of the hardest work around here. I simply clean up vandalism and other unconstructive type edits along with leaving welcome messages and the like. Also, please know getting additional permissions is not a "promotion", even for admins and Rollback is not much different than rollback feature you get with Twinkle to which any confirmed editor has access such as yourself. I do hope you find those sources. :) S0091 (talk) 15:09, 11 August 2019 (UTC)

Hello 0091. Thank you for reaching out. I am new here, so I am studying the links you sent carefully. I would appreciate your guidance. Thank you.--Phenom2019 (talk) 09:37, 9 August 2019 (UTC)

@S0091: Also thanks for your good words! The truth is that i started with articles too soon. The first was good, bu now i have 3 i must finish (the 2 are from a splitting...), so it can prove disastrous. Nevertheless, let's hope that both of us have a bright future here. Relative number of laureates at Trinity

You objected to the statement on the Trinity College wiki page 'If Trinity were listed as a country, it would have the fifth highest number of Nobel Laureates', on the basis of it not having any basis in fact. What is the right place then, if fifth is not the right one? --Brian Josephson (talk) 19:53, 11 August 2019 (UTC)

Hi @Brian Josephson: thank you for asking. The main issue is there is no source that can substantiate such statement. Trinity is not a country so it is pure conjecture that cannot verified. Another approach might be adding a statement with the actual number of Nobel Laureates, citing a reliable source of course as that would be verifiable. S0091 (talk) 20:06, 11 August 2019 (UTC)
It would have required minimal effort on your part to do a search and locate such a source, e.g. https://www.worldatlas.com/articles/top-30-countries-with-nobel-prize-winners.html. I don't understand why you say the statement 'cannot be verified'. The article already includes the number associated with Trinity, and this can be compared with the numbers listed for each country on a site such as that which I cited, which simple exercise ('easy-peasy' is how they put it in certain places) confirms the addition to the article. --Brian Josephson (talk) 20:56, 11 August 2019 (UTC)
I think that is WP:SYNTH. S0091 (talk) 21:50, 11 August 2019 (UTC)
It looks as if you now agree that the statement can be verified. I believe I have come across a statement comparing Trinity with other countries before but possibly it was in a speech rather than in writing so would not be available as a source. Then there is the question of how far it is reasonable to take WP:SYNTH. Is it for example reasonable in the light of this principle for the article to say 'Two members of the British royal family have studied at Trinity', etc. following this with a listing of the two, counting the two and getting two being in itself an act of synthesis, and similarly for the number of prime ministers?
While the comparison of Trinity with other countries in this respect is of some significance (more so than 'In 1848, Trinity hosted the meeting at which Cambridge undergraduates representing private schools such as Westminster drew up an early codification of the rules of football, known as the Cambridge Rules' which appears early on in the article, I don't think there's a compelling case for including it and I'll leave that to others. --Brian Josephson (talk) 08:41, 12 August 2019 (UTC)
I see your user page states you are a professor. Do you happen to be a professor at Trinity or have any affiliation with them? If so, then you have conflict of interest and need to declare that. S0091 (talk) 20:13, 11 August 2019 (UTC)
How come there's a CoI, exactly, if the objective information concerned is correct? My interest here lies in ensuring the accuracy and completeness of w'pedia entries. Do you have a problem with that? My interest lies also in the fact that Trinity is my own college, and I have made many edits of that page in the past, on the basis of my familiarity with the relevant facts, that have improved the page. You are the first person to have complained, and I think there are a number that will strongly approve of my having challenged your incompetent revert. --Brian Josephson (talk) 20:56, 11 August 2019 (UTC)
However, I see from your message to my talk page that you were presuming that I was responsible for the original edit. Had that indeed been the case there would possibly have been a case for saying that there was a CoI. Just saying that the information that some unknown person had added should remain and that the argument for your revert does not hold water is a rather different matter.
In an ideal world I'd revert back and include the source but I'm a bit busy to do that this evening at least.--Brian Josephson (talk) 21:14, 11 August 2019 (UTC)
@Brian Josephson: I will not take any issue if you revert back and add a source that actually can substantiate the statement. Now on to a different topic outside of Wikipedia articles. Assuming you have a certain expertise/interest in Economics, a subject that is infinitely fascinating to me, any particular thoughts on Freakonomics (if you are familiar)? Granted that is mainly focused on behavioral econ, but I have wondered what people actually in the profession thought. S0091 (talk) 21:50, 11 August 2019 (UTC)
My expertise/interest in this subject is pretty marginal. Have you found a source that suggests otherwise?--Brian Josephson (talk) 08:41, 12 August 2019 (UTC)

Bio Article Submitted for Review

Hello S0091. I hope your day has been great. I'd like you to know that I have just submitted my first article, a bio (of a living person) for review. I have tried to follow the rules. I'd be happy to receive the needed help please. Thank you a lot.--Phenom2019 (talk) 13:00, 12 August 2019 (UTC)

Hi @Phenom2019: I have not actually never written an article so take what I say with that lens. With that said, I think the issues you may run into are meeting Wikipedia's reliable source and notability standards. For example, Reputation Poll is a consultancy firm thus not independent and Alexreports is a blog which generally are not considered reliable. In order to substantiate notability, there needs to be significant coverage of the subject from several reliable sources not just passing mentions. I am not sure with sources provided that standard is met as she is the main subject in only one of them (except in the blog mentioned above but that is not reliable) and simply being a guest at events does not establish recognition. Also, I received a "Server Not Found" error when I tried to access the article from Leadership News but hopefully you can correct it as it might be helpful. I see you have submitted it for review so someone else will review it as well and provide feedback although that may take a couple months due to the large back log. In the meantime though, my suggestion reading the policies I linked above and finding additional reliable sources where she is the main (or a main) subject. I also wonder if The Miss Polo International Beauty Pageant might be a more suitable subject. See WP:ORG for notability guidelines for organizations. Best of luck! The Einstein problem

If Albert Einstein were still alive, and he posted a correction to an article about his theory of relativity, his correction would not meet the Wikipedia guidelines excluding "original research."

Sometimes an individual is the best authority about his own work. This concept was satirized in the 1950s comedy film "Champagne for Caesar,"in which a contestant on a TV quiz show is told his answer about the theory of relativity is incorrect. After a pause, the studio phone rings with a call from Princeton University. It's Einstein himself (then still alive) calling to correct the quiz show's faulty research, and to vindicate the contestant.

To put a finer pontoon it, I have written several volumes about my career and some of my contemporaries in the motion-picture industry. For reasons of cost I had these volumes distributed on DVDs. There have been many books and articles that mention me and the topics I addressed. These have appeared in hard-copy print. Many of these were written by authors who didn't know the subject and were not even adults when the events I described occurred. These hard-copy works might seem more 'reliable' than the somewhat ephemeral information on a DVD.

One wealthy person in the film industry printed three hard copies of my first volume. It took two bound volumes to contain all the information and they weigh about forty pounds. There are only three copies in the world. How would Wikipedia like that my volume to be referenced? (That's a rhetorical question.)

Invitation to project revival

Recent changes to Mago and Cicero pages

Hi,

my name is Stan Idelsen and I put a contribution to both Mago and Cicero's pages in Wiki that where rejected. The reason was 'no references'. The issue is that: 1) both Mago and Cicero are names that have a meaning in Berber language. I just expressed these meanings to give one more hypothesis on the possible origines (actually obvious to berberophone people). 2) The argument 'no references' is not a defensible reason since if someone has the necessary funds to diffuse misconceptions then he/she can produce 'references'.... This is not very logic in my sens. A lobby can change reality by just pushing fake information. It was just an attempt to bring 2 constructive proposals. I work on the Amazigh pharmacopea since more than 20 years and I know perfectly that Mago could not be anything else than an Amazigh speaker to be able to collect the information of the Amazigh peasants.... Also, Quiquero is an Amazigh word for lentils that where introduced in Europe by Amazigh people as many other crops at the time. If the lobbies behind the official 'truth' cannot bear it, then let's wait until another lobby can overthrow it in the future... — Preceding unsigned comment added by 94.104.205.128 (talk) 23:16, 17 August 2019 (UTC)

Hi Stan Idelsen, thank you for your message here. While I sympathize with your position, verifiability is a core Wikipedia policy. Therefore, content added must cite reliable sources. There is not a way to get around that requirement even if there are political or other circumstances that makes it difficult. Someone's knowledge is considered original research even if they are the subject or an expert. Again, I appreciate your situation but Wikipedia's has policies that must be adhered. Hi S0091! It's good to talk to you again! I hope you're having a great day and that life is treating you well. :-) I'm leaving you a message to let you know that I declined your tagging of User:Anonymous28510 for CSD under G10 because it did not appear to be a blatant attack page. If I'm incorrect or if I'm missing something, please let me know as soon as possible (ping me in your responses here so that I'm notified) so that I can take care of the matter as quickly as I can. Accusations of sock puppetry happens on occasion when people create a new account because they cannot log into to their old one and noting the the new user name is a preventative measure to make it clear why you are editing under a different user name. I changed "Percy" to PBS (Percy B. Shelley's initials) because Percy refers to his son in all period diaries and letters as well as biographical works. The poet Shelley never used the name Percy. He referred to himself as Shelley, and in Byron's, Mary Shelley's, Claire Clairmont's, and others' letters, journals and correspondence of the time, he is ALWAYS Shelley. "Percy" was his son. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 47.154.8.76 (talk) 23:15, 7 September 2019 (UTC)

I'm pretty new to the whole 'reverting vandalism' thing. How do you handle folks who seem determined to? Hi @OwnstheBeagles: I am pretty sure I know the editor you are referring to and have just reverted them and placed a sterner warning on their talk page. They seem like a troll, see WP:DENY. Please refer to WP:VD for Wikipedia's vandalism policy. Typically you report when it is obvious vandalism and they have received a level 4 warning but they continue. Google Code-In 2019 is coming - please mentor some documentation tasks!

Hello,

Google Code-In, Google-organized contest in which the Wikimedia Foundation participates, starts in a few weeks. This contest is about taking high school students into the world of opensource. I'm sending you this message because you recently edited a documentation page at the English Wikipedia.

I would like to ask you to take part in Google Code-In as a mentor. That would mean to prepare at least one task (it can be documentation related, or something else - the other categories are Code, Design, Quality Assurance and Outreach) for the participants, and help the student to complete it. Please sign up at the contest page and send us your Google account address to google-code-in-admins@lists.wikimedia.org, so we can invite you in!

From my own experience, Google Code-In can be fun, you can make several new friends, attract new people to your wiki and make them part of your community.

If you have any questions, please let us know at google-code-in-admins@lists.wikimedia.org.

Thank you!

question so I can learn from my mistakes

Hey! you reverted my comment under Alex Pall on the The Chainsmokers' page. Just curious what was wrong with it or how I could have made that text better so it would not have been reverted and so I can learn for the future. Thanks so much for your feedback! — Preceding unsigned comment added by IMme4u09 (talkcontribs) 04:55, 22 September 2019 (UTC)

Hi @IMme4u09: Wikipedia must take extra care with biographies of living people thus any content added regarding a living person must be strongly sourced, especially claims that could cause harm to the person. Alex Pall cheating on his girlfriend, in my opinion, at least skirted WP:BLPGOSSIP and WP:GRAPEVINE. In addition, TMZ is typically not considered a reliable source as it is a tabloid and the news.com article attributed The Sun as its source, which has been deemed unreliable (see [2]). If you do believe the content is encyclopedic and does belong in the article, first you must provide stronger sources. Once you have better sourcing, I highly recommend starting a discussion on the The Chainsmokers talk page so you can gain consensus from other editors before adding the content. See WP:TP for guidance on using talk pages (i.e. don't forget to sign you name with the four tiles ~~~~). Thank you for asking the question! :) S0091 (talk) 14:27, 22 September 2019 (UTC)
Got it, thank you. I only cited TMZ because that is the actually video of Alex Pall. I didn't to post a third party, I actually wanted it to be the interview. Should I still not use it? I can also put this question on his talk page if that is better. Really appreciate all your feedback! — Preceding unsigned comment added by :::IMme4u09 (talkcontribs) 16:27, 22 September 2019 (UTC)
@IMme4u09: I honestly think it is best to discuss on the talk page. However, before you start the discussion, please read WP:TP so you follow the correct format. You have "broken some rules" here, which is understandable for a new editor like yourself but some editors are very particular about it. Best of luck! S0091 (talk) 16:45, 22 September 2019 (UTC)

Duke

Look at the University of Chicago's lead and compare it to the lead in the Duke article. Are you really suggesting that including a few rankings is boosterism when other schools' leads are so elaborate? This double standard is utterly ridiculous. Selective enforcement completely undermines the credibility of Wikipedia.

Hi @Srwadia: You added the content to the reference section and to a reference that is dated in 2015 (sames as the IP did, which was reverted both by me and another editor), not the lead or the body of the article. Please ensure any content you add follows Wikipedia's policies. As for double standards, see other stuff exists. I do not believe any editor would have an issue if content added is reliably sourced and follows WP:MOS. Please also try to remember to sign your posts. S0091 (talk) 01:06, 29 September 2019 (UTC)

Thanks for the prompt response. I'll add my content to the lead with appropriate citations later. You definitely earned that kitten!

@Srwadia:, Perfect! If you have any issues once you add an appropriate source, just start a discussion on the article's talk page to gain consensus (see WP:BRD). I do appreciate the message (and the kitten) and wish you the best. :) S0091 (talk) 01:17, 29 September 2019 (UTC)

Yes, but just because the article does not meet all the guidelines does not mean the article should not exist, simply that some of the content within the article needs to be rewritten in a neutral tone. S0091 (talk) 18:27, 29 September 2019 (UTC)

Editing Gloucester City AFC wiki page

Hi,

I think you have redacted / undone the changes I made today on the Gloucester City AFC wiki page, specifically in the 'Formation and the early years' section. As currently written, the Wiki page disagrees with the club's very detailed history on its official website. That is why I made the change. On the balance of probabilities, the official website is likely to be more accurate than the Wiki page. Much of that section is without any references.

So my polite question (in trying to ensure Wiki agrees with the official website) is why did you remove my updates? Was it simply due to copyright? I thought it was good practice to accurately reference all Wiki items. Alternatively did you remove my comments because I literally exactly cut and paste the sentences word for word? If I wrote the information from the official website in my own words (without a complete cut and paste), would the edits be allowed to stand?

If the section is left unchanged, it is misleading if not incorrect. I look forward to your helpful advice on this matter.

Thanks — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2A00:23C4:F70F:7200:B7:6797:63F8:D6DF (talk) 21:03, 29 September 2019 (UTC)

Hi! Yes, the reason your edits were removed was because of the copyright violations which is a serious issue. I actually understand why you thought copy/pasting was ok after running a copyvio check. It found about 95% of the content in the History section likely was copy/paste from the site. This was after I removed your edits so I presume they have been there for some time before yours. The other issue is the source itself as it fails WP:SOURCE so is not considered a reliable source (I know, so many rules). For example, Coco-Cola's website is not consider a reliable source (outside of standard information like who the CEO is, etc.) because there is no independent oversight/fact-checking of the content.

To answer you other question, yes, if you paraphrase then it would not be a copyright violation. What would be fantastic if you could actually find independent reliable sources on history of the organization and use those. I am also going to leave you a Welcome message with link to policies and other guidance. I am glad you are asking these questions, although I understand if you find the answers frustrating. Thanks for your very helpful comments. You have raised some massive points here. Firstly, thanks for clearing up that one cannot simply cut and paste material into Wikipedia from an external source without violating copyright. I won't do that again. However, as you say about 95% of the content in the History section was likely directly taken (just reworded) from the Gloucester City website's history page. Whilst I fully appreciate your example that the Coca-Cola website is not an independent resource, this ruling causes a problem when it comes to football club history information. In reality, in almost all cases the club's website is going to be the most accurate source. For some really large professional clubs, you may find alternative sources of information about the club history. However for most clubs (certainly those of the size of Gloucester) when once does a search of web resources about the club's history, the only pages that come up are the official site and Wikipedia. You occasionally get other pages but they are clearly just quoting from one or both of these sources. One has to take the accuracy of the official website in good faith. In Gloucester's case, one can see a detailed section that looks very free from bias imho. Its main source appears to be the book quoted on the Wiki page (Clark, Timothy R. D in collaboration with Kujawa, Rob (2009). The Complete Record of Gloucester City AFC 1883–2009), which itself was probably produced using old newspaper articles, some dating back to the late 19th Century. Neither this book nor the very old newspaper articles are available online. So the next most logical thing is to trust - in good faith - the club's official history page. Frankly, if one is not prepared to trust it, then most of the Gloucester History section on Wikipedia might be considered invalidated, and perhaps not even suitable for publication on Wikipedia. However, if you fail to accept the club's website as acceptable, then the VAST majority of football club pages on Wikipedia should be without a history section. There surely has to be some sort of compromise (don't you agree)? Finally, the reason I chose to edit Gloucester's History section is because I believe as it currently appears, it DOES NOT accurately reflect the club's official website (which as I have said is the only possible online source that can be used as a reference). Whereas the official site admits that the current Gloucester club is really the third iteration of the club (although still chooses to link the modern day club with one that was created in 1883), the Wikipedia page as written conveniently ignores this important information. It is quite common for fans of a football team to claim the club's history back to a date that is earlier than the truth. Whereas Gloucester still claim their club was founded in 1883, their history page at least acknowledges that the current club was not technically this same club. So..the conclude, if the Wiki page is not updated to reflect this information, it will remain misleading/incorrect. I look forward to your suggestions on how it can be corrected, bearing in mind that the material I disagree with in Gloucester's History section on Wikipedia has no reference at all. I was just intending to replace incorrect, unreferenced material with information taken from the official website, albeit I should not have quoted the information word for word. Thanks in advance. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2A00:23C4:F70F:7200:B8D6:B4F6:AC92:E984 (talk) 10:38, 30 September 2019 (UTC)
I have made my second attempt at updating the History section. I have used my own words, and been significantly more succinct. So I don't believe I have violated any copyright rules on this occasion (no more than any of the rest of the History section that long predates my amendment). Since you did not want me to use the Gloucester official website as my source, I cannot add one. However, most of the History section likewise has no references that would meet the high Wiki standards. The page is now significantly more accurate after my amendment. I have plenty of experience of football club histories. There is no way the club itself would acknowledge that two earlier versions of it existed and folded if this were not true. Clubs generally want to advertise their history as being continuous and unbroken from the earlier date possible. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2A00:23C4:F70F:7200:FC63:D29B:AA77:B044 (talk) 14:53, 30 September 2019 (UTC)
I will not be the one to review your edits again for transparent impartiality as I think another editor should evaluate them (who reviews Pending Changes edits is random). I cannot address all you concerns right now but will in a couple days or so but in the meantime thank you for addressing the issues raised. S0091 (talk) 00:27, 1 October 2019 (UTC)
Hi IP, One clarification for the 95% I mentioned, the main issue is not with using club's site as a source. It is because the content is copy/pasted from the site, thus a copyright violation and technically should be rewritten. I see your edits were accepted so I hope that addresses your concern about the incorrect information that was in the article. The club's site does actually have sources for some of the content, such as newspaper clippings and does not appear to make wild self-serving claims so while it may not the best (there is some conjecture), it's not the worst either. I also a agree a source is better than no source as it allows the content to be fairly evaluated. If you happen to make any additional updates that are not accepted, I suggest starting a discussion on the article's talk page so you can gain consensus for the proposed change(s). Feel free to leave me message anytime if you have questions. Thanks again for the discussion here. Frankly Wikipedia could use more editors like you. Wish you the best. Belarusian Social Democratic Assembly

on the official website of the Belarusian Social Democratic Assembly party https://bsdg.by/ there is a note. in this note, the founder of the party, Shushkevich, sharply criticizes Lukashenko’s policies. I am adding to the wikipedia article that the party is criticizing Lukashenko’s policies. but you are deleting this information. the question is why are you doing this? 84.47.169.105 (talk) 17:24, 12 October 2019 (UTC)

this is the official website of the party itself, naturally it is a reliable and authoritative source !!! here is another note from an independent online media that says that Shushkevich sharply criticizes Lukashenko. https://news.tut.by/economics/642168.html84.47.169.105 (talk) 17:43, 12 October 2019 (UTC)

Thanks for welcoming me, that's really all. :) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Concaaes (talkcontribs) 00:37, 5 November 2019 (UTC)

About the PS4 Software Category.

Hey! So the reason why I had articles like Blockbuster, Lightbox, etc is because of the applications on the PS4. I didn't really mean to cause distress. I was kinda plannin' to have other PS4 Software on there but I realized that there isn't really a lot of articles about that. So that is why I had a bunch of articles there. WildcatIsNotAGroup (talk) 21:45, 9 November 2019 (UTC)

@WildcatIsNotAGroup: I thought that might be the case but it is not appropriate to do so unless the article contains content and sources supporting the category. Please also know you are not causing distress but you should discontinue adding categories that do not meet WP:CAT requirements. You are new here so it is understandable and I hope you stay around to contribute. I will leave you a welcome message with some helpful information. Thank you for responding and if you have questions, feel free to drop by anytime. :) S0091 (talk) 21:53, 9 November 2019 (UTC)

Big Enough (Kirin J. Callinan song)

I noticed you accepted a revision of this page recently. Unfortunately, the revision you accepted contained a release date change which was not backed by the iTunes source present on the article (allowed per WP:AFFILIATE). Hopefully this helps with future reviews. Jalen Folf (talk) 20:12, 10 November 2019 (UTC)

Hi @JalenFolf: I reviewed this source [[3]] which is the reference used in the body of the article but missed that the June date relates to the album not the single. Thank you for catching my mistake and bigger thanks for letting me know. Apologies for the trouble. S0091 (talk) 21:23, 10 November 2019 (UTC)

Nassirahmed1987

Hi, regarding User talk:Nassirahmed1987, I'm not entirely sure – I'd say "vandalism" is a bit unspecific for promotional external link additions. You may freely ignore this message, it is just an expression of thought. ~ ToBeFree (talk) 00:43, 12 November 2019 (UTC)

@ToBeFree: Yeah, more on the spammy side in hindsight. Thanks for the note. :) S0091 (talk) 00:47, 12 November 2019 (UTC)

My contribution towards "Sam Pitroda" are TRUE and have nothing to do with vandalism or representation of any incorrect facts. Sam pitroda being summonnned by Indian court on National Herald Scam is a BIG news in India. He was given the summon at his residence in the US and this is not a new thing in India. I suggest you do some research on this case and educate yourself prior to out rightly rejecting it. The intention of Wikepedia is to provide both positive and negative aspect of personalities. This forum is not for advertising one's highness. Please revert my changes as they are CORRECT and as per the 'LAW' and maintain the sanctity of the forum. If you need more information you are either to contact me or use the wikepedia on national herald case. I have NOTHING against Sam Pitroda personally! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Truth198003 (talkcontribs) 14:19, 12 November 2019 (UTC)

= Why won't you mind you business rather than support vandalism ?

It's not a good idea to interfere with editing an article you understand nothing about.90.154.71.46 (talk) 21:25, 16 November 2019 (UTC)

Hi IP, you have been reverted by three other editors, not just me. The per WP:BRD and WP:ONUS the required course of action is to start a discussion on the article's talk page so consensus can be gained from the community. Being an expert is no matter here. S0091 (talk) 21:45, 16 November 2019 (UTC)

S0091, See Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Sandro78/Archive and Wikipedia:Administrators'_noticeboard/IncidentArchive1020#Please_restore_the_stable_version_of_MacCullagh_ellipsoid_and_Galois_axis for details on this user. Starting a discussion isn't a path forward as long as he's evading a block. - MrOllie (talk) 21:54, 16 November 2019 (UTC)

@MrOllie: Ahh, I see. Thank you for the information. I am sure you have already noticed they have added content again. S0091 (talk) 22:03, 16 November 2019 (UTC)

Rutgers Football

Hey, I was just curious about head coaches that have had multiple stints because in other cases, they would have their records including the previous stint when shown as head coach, but if I'm wrong, that's perfectly fine.KENGRIFFEY24FAN —Preceding undated comment added 18:55, 2 December 2019 (UTC)

Hi @KENGRIFFEY24FAN: that's actually a great question and one I do not have an answer to. I suggest posing this at the article's talk page so other editors can participate in the discussion. I honestly believe it is a discussion worth having. I do see now where you were coming from with your edit and will strike the notice I left you. Of course you are free to remove it entirely. Thanks for the note and wish you the best. S0091 (talk) 00:07, 3 December 2019 (UTC)

A kitten for you!

You are most welcome.

Fylindfotberserk (talk) 17:40, 14 December 2019 (UTC)

Hi @Fylindfotberserk:, this was the first time I ran into a situation where I could not revert an edit because it would add back a blacklisted source. It took me a few minutes to figure out which one was blacklisted and the approach to take. I now understand I need to check the reference section to see if I broke anything before I publish the changes. Appreciate your help! S0091 (talk) 17:50, 14 December 2019 (UTC)
Thanks man. Actually after I clicked revert, I warned the user only to find that it was not restored because of the blacklisted site. I was trying to find some reliable sources to replace with the blacklisted ones in the meantime. But what you did is OK. There are too many sources in the article already. Let others add it if think it is necessary. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 17:56, 14 December 2019 (UTC)
People have been notified about the Census2011.co.in many times, but still they put it. I regularly remove it from district and town/village articles, replacing them with good sources, but for the whole state, it is cumbersome and time taking for me. I've a lot of other articles to check today. Thanks again. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 17:59, 14 December 2019 (UTC)

Discretionary sanctions on Jeff Van Drew

This is a standard message to notify contributors about an administrative ruling in effect. It does not imply that there are any issues with your contributions to date.

You have shown interest in post-1932 politics of the United States and closely related people. Due to past disruption in this topic area, a more stringent set of rules called discretionary sanctions is in effect. Any administrator may impose sanctions on editors who do not strictly follow Wikipedia's policies, or the page-specific restrictions, when making edits related to the topic.

For additional information, please see the guidance on discretionary sanctions and the Arbitration Committee's decision here. If you have any questions, or any doubts regarding what edits are appropriate, you are welcome to discuss them with me or any other editor.

Response message

Thanks for writing to my userpage, please vote for my administrationship and for the approval of my page draft Tendencia (band)--Kubanische (talk) 17:38, 21 December 2019 (UTC)

Hello there.

Hello S0091 Thank you very much for welcoming me.

Personally, I like the idea of translating pages of history and militaria into Spanish.

However, I hope I am not disturbing you, I am having trouble with my translation of the Sturmgeschütz.

It seems to be all right, but randomly "abuse" alerts appear. Even in the 3-word titles!

--Atte. Kamiling (talk) 17:47, 21 December 2019 (UTC)

Hi @Kamiling: You are not disturbing me, but not sure I can help. I am assuming the alerts are coming from the Spanish Wikipedia so you may want to ask someone there. You can also try the Teahouse to see if someone there can provide guidance. Granted it is for the English Wikipedia but someone might be familiar enough with the Spanish Wikipedia to help you out. Kubanische

Hello! Thanks,I am on serious need of help. I am on the submission for reviewing a draft and there are some troubles always jumping with reliable sources.--Kubanische (talk) 21:21, 21 December 2019 (UTC)

@Kubanische:, from what I see the reviewer provided a thorough explanation as to why the article was declined. I suggest reading through the material (blue links) they left for you and if you have questions, reach out to them or the Teahouse. Please be aware you must provide reliable sources for all the content and much of what I see is unsourced. You may also find User:Ian.thomson/Guide helpful. Perhaps you should consider cutting down the content and only include what has strong, reliable sources. Be aware, this may leave the article with only a few sentences but that is how many articles start. S0091 (talk) 21:31, 21 December 2019 (UTC)

Thanks but one problem

Thank you but I can’t edit protected articles so I hope you can help me out with that bud

Hey I can’t edit

Hello I can’t edit protected pages Alrightletmetellya (talk) 21:31, 26 December 2019 (UTC)

@Alrightletmetellya:, which page are you trying to edit? S0091 (talk) 21:34, 26 December 2019 (UTC)
I’m Trying to edit pages in general but I thought that when you had 10+ edits and your account is 4+ days old you could edit protected pages. But I can’t. Alrightletmetellya (talk) 21:40, 26 December 2019 (UTC)
@Alrightletmetellya: 98% of pages are unprotected and it seems you are editing articles without any issues so I am not sure what the issue is unless there is a particular page you are trying to edit. If so, please provide the name of the article. S0091 (talk) 21:45, 26 December 2019 (UTC) @Alrightletmetellya: re-ping. S0091 (talk) 21:46, 26 December 2019 (UTC)
I’m trying to edit Historical regions/countries for example “Prussia” but those are protected Alrightletmetellya (talk) 21:47, 26 December 2019 (UTC)
@Alrightletmetellya: no need to start a new section every time. See WP:TP for guidance on using talk pages. You are a bit early on the 4 days but just by a few minutes. Please also note that "gaming the system" to get 10 edits by making junk edits, which it appears you have done, is looked poorly upon on Wikipedia. If that is your approach, you may last long here. S0091 (talk) 21:54, 26 December 2019 (UTC)
Alright well thank you I’m just very new as you can tell. Alrightletmetellya (talk) 21:56, 26 December 2019 (UTC)
@Alrightletmetellya: be sure to thoroughly read through the information in the welcome message I left you, especially if you are intending to edit articles like Prussia. I also highly recommend the Wikipedia Adventure which is an interactive tutorial. Best of luck! S0091 (talk) 22:03, 26 December 2019 (UTC)

Better source for episode cast information?

If you have a better source for cast information in television episodes, I'd be glad to change my citation. I was under the impression that episode information on IMDB is professionally moderated though.--Jbtamug99 (talk) 06:02, 29 December 2019 (UTC)

@Jbtamug99: I did not realize it either until I joined Wikipedia. I honestly do not know of another source off hand and to be honest, it is used liberally. I left a note to you as a "just in case someone removes it" because of your edit summary. I wouldn't worry about it unless another editor makes an issue of it.
