DYK for Golden Cue
On June 2, 2010, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article Golden Cue, which you created or substantially expanded. You are welcome to check how many hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, quick check ) and add it to DYKSTATS if it got over 5,000. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the Did you know? talk page. |

Vango listed at Redirects for discussion
An editor has asked for a discussion to address the redirect Vango. Since you had some involvement with the Vango redirect, you might want to participate in the redirect discussion (if you have not already done so). DuncanHill (talk) 16:38, 5 June 2010 (UTC)
- Already expired, but thanks for the note anyway. — SMcCandlish Talk⇒ ʕ(Õلō)ˀ Contribs. 19:36, 7 June 2010 (UTC)

Grab some glory, and a barnstar
Hi, I'd like to invite you to participate in the Guild of Copy Editors July 2010 Backlog Elimination Drive. In May, about 30 editors helped remove the {{copyedit}} tag from 1175 articles. The backlog is still over 7500 articles, and extends back to the beginning of 2008! We really need your help to reduce it. Copyediting just a couple articles can qualify you for a barnstar. Serious copyeditors can win prestigious and exclusive rewards. See the event page for more information. And thanks for your consideration. ɳorɑfʈ Talk! 15:21, 10 June 2010 (UTC)

Portal categories
I appreciate you seem to have taken on some thankless tasks with keeping these tidy! I'd really appreciate some input here on how these things should be sorted. Best wishes, TheGrappler (talk) 13:43, 15 June 2010 (UTC)

Reviewer granted
You have been granted the 'reviewer'
userright, allowing you to to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged protection, will be commencing a a two-month trial at approximately 23:00, 2010 June 15 (UTC).
Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under flagged protection. Flagged protection is applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial.
When reviewing, edits should be accepted if they are not obvious vandalism or BLP violations, and not clearly problematic in light of the reason given for protection (see Wikipedia:Reviewing process). More detailed documentation and guidelines can be found here.
If you do not want this userright, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. –xenotalk 13:34, 15 June 2010 (UTC)
- Thanks. I've been waiting with bated breath for this feature to be installed, for years. — SMcCandlish Talk⇒ ʕ(Õلō)ˀ Contribs. 17:06, 15 June 2010 (UTC)
Breed names
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think you're supposed to capitalize dog names. I've gotten reverted on the pug page (I'm nowhere near 3RR, nor do I intend to end up on WP:LAME over this). As far as I know, it's pug, not Pug. I've got the Pug article fixed for the time being, I just want to go into any discussion with some ammunition. - Professional dog breeders writing in dog breeding publications like to capitalize breed names (horse types do this, too, as do ornithologists), but it is absolutely not a generally accepted style for general publications like an encyclopedia. — SMcCandlish Talk⇒ ʕ(Õلō)ˀ Contribs. 00:20, 21 June 2010 (UTC)
- That's what I thought. I know a few names are proper nouns (St. Bernards, great Danes, and the like), and I know that Mastiff is capitalized when referring to an English mastiff in shorthand, but pugs don't fall into that category. Thanks!! The Blade of the Northern Lights (talk) 01:20, 21 June 2010 (UTC)
- No reason to capitalize "mastiff" at all, and even "great Dane" is only partially capitalized. I did a bunch more cleanup on the pug article. — SMcCandlish Talk⇒ ʕ(Õلō)ˀ Contribs. 01:41, 21 June 2010 (UTC)
- Ah, I've now fixed the great Dane page up. Thanks for finishing the pug article, I got interrupted- I'll watch over it for the next several days. Just one last quick question- what about Dalmatians? They're named after the coastline of that name, and I've never been exactly sure about that. The Blade of the Northern Lights (talk) 02:04, 21 June 2010 (UTC)
- Yeah, "Dalmatian" like "Pomeranian", etc., is a proper name, so capitalized. Same goes for "Persian", "Balinese", etc., in cats, and so on (but "Scottish fold" and "American shorthair", like "Lacy dog", "German shepherd"). — SMcCandlish Talk⇒ ʕ(Õلō)ˀ Contribs. 02:53, 21 June 2010 (UTC)
