Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions; however, please remember the essential rule of respecting copyrights. Hello Sir/Ma'am. My IP address 80.82.76.0/22 got blocked as I had used VPN due to frequent internet shutdowns in my country. I request you to kindly restore it as I assure that I wont be using VPN while working on wiki articles as newbie. Hereby, I confirm that I am not web host provider and will make sure that such thing never happens again.

Decline reason:

Once you disable your VPN, you need to wait a full 24 hours for the Wikipedia block to expire. If you are still unable to edit after waiting a full 24 hours, please make a new request. Yamla (talk) 18:12, 2 May 2024 (UTC)Reply

Hi Sakshi115rathore! I noticed that you recently marked an edit as minor at Dalit that may not have been. "Minor edit" has a specific definition on Wikipedia—it refers only to superficial edits that could never be the subject of a dispute, such as typo corrections or reverting obvious vandalism. Any edit that changes the meaning of an article is not a minor edit, even if it only concerns a single word. Thank you. Ekdalian (talk) 18:04, 4 July 2024 (UTC)Reply

Hello Dianna, this is with regard to April 2018 protests edit. The addition of 2018 amendment act details is not violation of copyright as I have clearly mentioned the article and economic times data is for public usage and public domain in India. Also, mentioning about 2 main provisions of act (anticipatory bail and inquiry) is general data and cannot be considered copyrighted. So , how do I prevent this copyright violation as being claimed? Regards. Sakshi115rathore (talk) 14:23, 7 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
Hello Sakshi115rathore. The webpage that was copied is this one, which is marked as "Copyright © 2024 Bennett, Coleman & Co. Ltd. All rights reserved." You seem to have confused "publicly available" with "in the public domain". Copyright is the same worldwide, and applies in India just like it does in almost all countries. — Diannaa (talk) 17:17, 7 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
but then how will I be able to add provisions of the act using an article because every article on this issue might have the copyright trademark. I mentioned the article in the references while adding provision. Also, what is the way to get blocking removed in wikipedia? Sakshi115rathore (talk) 17:28, 7 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
Copying content from your sources is not allowed. Prose you find online, in books, in magazines, and in newspapers is almost always copyright, and cannot be copied here; it's against the copyright policy of this website to do so. Everything you add must be written in your own words.
In order to lift the block, we need to be certain that you understand how copyright works on Wikipedia. Please respond to the following questions, explaining in your own words:
  • What is copyright?
  • How is Wikipedia licenced?
  • Why is copyrighted content not allowed on Wikipedia?
  • Under what circumstances can we use copyrighted content?
  • How do you intend to avoid violating the copyright policy in the future?
Your answers will enable us to establish whether or not you should be unblocked. — Diannaa (talk) 20:03, 7 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
I have answered the above question in the following manner:-
1) Copyright is a legal protection that grants the creator of an original work exclusive rights to its use and distribution, usually for a limited time. This protection applies to various forms of creative expression, including books, music, artwork, and software. Copyright laws ensure that the creator can control how their work is copied, distributed
2) Wikipedia is licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike (CC BY-SA) license, which allows anyone to copy, distribute, modify, and even use Wikipedia content commercially, as long as they credit the original authors and share derivative works under the same or a compatible license.
3) Wikipedia prohibits the use of copyrighted content to avoid legal violations and to maintain its open and free-to-use nature. The inclusion of copyrighted material without permission could expose Wikipedia to legal action and undermine its mission of providing freely accessible knowledge.
4) Copyrighted content can generally be used under these circumstances:
Fair Use: In some cases, a limited amount of copyrighted material can be used without permission for purposes such as criticism, commentary, news reporting, teaching, or research.
Public Domain: Works that are no longer protected by copyright (or never were) can be used freely.
Licensing: If the content owner grants permission or licenses their work under a free-use license like Creative Commons, it can be used within the terms of that license.
Permission: You can seek and obtain explicit permission from the copyright holder to use their work.
5) To avoid violating copyright policies, I adhere to the following practices:
Use of Public Domain and Licensed Content: I only utilize content that is either in the public domain or explicitly licensed for reuse, such as Creative Commons-licensed works.
Respect Fair Use Limitations: If using copyrighted material, I ensure it falls within "fair use" guidelines, such as quoting short excerpts for commentary or analysis.
Avoiding Direct Reproductions: I do not copy and paste material from copyrighted sources. Instead, I summarize, paraphrase, or generate original content based on knowledge that is widely available.
Regular Checks: I remain informed of copyright laws and content policies to ensure compliance in the future.

The Economic Times article is marked "Copyright © 2024 Bennett, Coleman & Co. Ltd. All rights reserved. For reprint rights: Times Syndication Service".
