editHello, Salubrious Toxin, and welcome to Wikipedia! It appears you are a course instructor leading a class project.
- New to Wikipedia or want to learn about best practices for Wikipedia assignments?
The training includes instructions for setting up a structured course page, with tools for tracking student work and encouraging peer review. Please also see this helpful advice for instructors.
If you run into problems or want some feedback on your Wikipedia assignment plans, try posting to the education noticeboard.
We hope you like it here and encourage you to stay after your assignment is finished! Blue Rasberry (talk) 13:57, 26 March 2014 (UTC)
- Hello, per your request at the Wikipedia:Education noticeboard and after review, I have designated you with "course instructor" rights. This means that you can create a course page for the Wikipedia club that you proposed, and participants can sign on and coordinate themselves there. Thanks for your interest! I look forward to supporting more in the future. Blue Rasberry (talk) 14:00, 26 March 2014 (UTC)
- Thanks User:Bluerasberry! I have to discuss this project and how the school's name will be used with our administration, but after that I should be in the clear. I'll keep you updated. Cheers. --Salubrious Toxin (talk) 22:34, 26 March 2014 (UTC)

Question from Rice University student regarding the creation of a new Wiki page on Healthcare in Nicaragua
editHi Felix, my name is Michelle, and I am a third-year student at Rice University (and will actually be heading off to your current medical school in two years through Mount Sinai's FlexMed Early Acceptance Program)! I am currently working on a class project for my poverty, justice, and human capabilities class that involves creating a Wikipedia article. I am thinking about creating an article on Healthcare in Nicaragua.
Currently, there is no comprehensive Wikipedia page on health or healthcare in Nicaragua, but rather an assortment of a few related narrow topic pages on “Abortion in Nicaragua”, “HIV/AIDS in Nicaragua”, and “Water Supply and Sanitation in Nicaragua”. Wikipedia currently lacks up-to-date centralized information on other important Nicaraguan health topics such as general health infrastructure, accessibility to healthcare facilities, infectious diseases, maternal health, and more. I hope to create a page that connects and centralizes all of this various information and more would provide page visitors a better understanding of the unique and high burden of disease in Nicaragua in the context of its healthcare system’s limited resources as well as the socioeconomic status of its citizens.
However, I was hoping to reach out to you as you have more expertise and experience writing medical articles on Wikipedia on ways to improve the content of this proposed page. Please feel free to check out my user talk page to see a more detailed description of my proposed page. Nice to meet you, and thanks so much for the help! Mtran99 (talk) 00:18, 28 September 2016 (UTC)
- Hi Michelle- nice to meet you! It'll be great to see you on campus in a few years. 1) Congrats on acceptance to Sinai! 2) great premise for an article 3) you'll be an expert on health in Nicaragua 4) the cervical cancer section was surprising 5) citations are key and you seem to have good ones 6) organization of the article looks fine 7) I'll keep an eye on the article Salubrious Toxin (talk) 13:41, 28 September 2016 (UTC)
Thank you very much, Felix! Looking forward to meeting you in the future as well. I appreciate your time! Mtran99 (talk) 20:01, 29 September 2016 (UTC)
- Hi Felix! I hope you are doing well. When you get the chance, I was wondering if you could check out the current form of the page that I created entitled "Healthcare in Nicaragua". I would appreciate any feedback on the content and layout. I am still working on my section on Health Conditions as the communicable diseases section is currently blank. If you also have any advice about how to increase traffic to my page, that would be appreciated. I tried adding links to various parent pages, and will continue to add more. I appreciate your advice and guidance, thanks so much! Mtran99 (talk) 02:37, 11 November 2016 (UTC)
- Hi Michelle- Healthcare in Nicaragua looks good! Traffic would increase if your page is one of the top hits on Google. It's already a top hit if I Google "Healthcare in Nicaragua wiki". Aside from search engine optimization, adding links to your page from other areas on wikipedia is one method (as you are doing), sharing your page with experts in the field is another. Another perspective is increasing the retention once someone visits: if I visit a wikipedia page and it's good, I'll come back later to find out more or start my own deep dive into the topic. The best method to increase retention is have a great intro, as well as citations and external links that make it easy to deep dive into a topic. I saw that you wrote your own citations, but one suggestion is to instead use the citation template because it automatically includes links. In the editor, under Cite → Templates → cite journal, you can just type in the DOI and click on the magnifying glass. If your citation is not from a journal, use the cite web template and include the link. Hope that helps! Salubrious Toxin (talk) 14:28, 11 November 2016 (UTC)
- Thanks so much Felix! I will change my citations and also try to edit my intro to be more interesting and engaging.Mtran99 (talk) 04:29, 14 November 2016 (UTC)
- Thanks again for all of your help Felix. Although I have finished my semester project, I hope to continue improving this page. I recently nominated it for Good Article status to gain more feedback, so please feel free to review Healthcare in Nicaragua if you would like! Enjoy your holidays. Welcome to Wikipedia from the Anatomy Wikiproject!
editWelcome to Wikipedia from WikiProject Anatomy! We're a group of editors who strive to improve the quality of anatomy articles here on Wikipedia. One of our members has noticed that you are involved in editing anatomy articles; it's great to have a new interested editor on board. In your wiki-voyages, a few things that may be relevant to editing wikipedia articles are:
- Thanks for coming aboard! We always appreciate a new editor. Feel free to leave us a message at any time on the WikiProject Anatomy talk page. If you are interested in joining the project yourself, there is a participant list where you can sign up. Please leave a message on the talk page if you have any problems, suggestions, would like review of an article, need suggestions for articles to edit, or would like some collaboration when editing!
- You will make a big difference to the quality of information by adding reliable sources. Sourcing anatomy articles is essential and makes a big difference to the quality of articles. And, while you're at it, why not use a book to source information, which can source multiple articles at once!
- We try and use a standard way of arranging the content in each article. That layout is here. These headings let us have a standard way of presenting the information in anatomical articles, indicate what information may have been forgotten, and save angst when trying to decide how to organise an article. That said, this might not suit every article. If in doubt, be bold!
- Lastly, why not try and strive to create a good article! Anatomical articles are often small in scope, have available sources, and only a limited amount of research available that is readily presentable!
Feel free to contact us on the WikiProject Anatomy talk page if you have any problems, or wish to join us. I wish you all the best on your wiki-voyages! -- CFCF (talk · contribs · email) 12:45, 9 June 2014 (UTC)
- This is great, thanks for the support! Salubrious Toxin (talk) 20:39, 9 June 2014 (UTC)
Thank you

I see that you are editing as part of a course requirement but I hope that you continue to edit medical articles since it looks like you have the skills and aptitude that is necessary. You added something important that wasn't there before. The Very Best of Regards,

Uploading images from open access journals to Wikimedia Commons
editYou asked me at User_talk:Bluerasberry#Uploading_images about how to upload an image from an open access journal to Wikimedia Commons.
Perhaps you were imagining a special or automatic process. I regret to say that there is none for general use. The process is much like a routine upload, except with credit given to the paper's authors. Here is your paper.
- Ouellette, Francis; Griffith, Malachi; Walker, Jason R.; Spies, Nicholas C.; Ainscough, Benjamin J.; Griffith, Obi L. (2015). "Informatics for RNA Sequencing: A Web Resource for Analysis on the Cloud". PLOS Computational Biology. 11 (8): e1004393. doi:10.1371/journal.pcbi.1004393. ISSN 1553-7358.
{{cite journal}}
: CS1 maint: unflagged free DOI (link)
Here are the steps -
- Download the image to your hard drive
- Go to Commons:Special:UploadWizard
- Upload the image into that wizard from your hard drive
- Complete the form
- They use Cc-by-2.5 for their license
- The authors are "Malachi Griffith, Jason R. Walker, Nicholas C. Spies, Benjamin J. Ainscough, Obi L. Griffith"
- The source is "http://journals.plos.org/ploscompbiol/article?id=10.1371/journal.pcbi.1004393"
- The description could be "image taken from Ouellette, Francis; Griffith, Malachi; Walker, Jason R.; Spies, Nicholas C.; Ainscough, Benjamin J.; Griffith, Obi L. (2015). "Informatics for RNA Sequencing: A Web Resource for Analysis on the Cloud". PLOS Computational Biology. 11 (8): e1004393. doi:10.1371/journal.pcbi.1004393. ISSN 1553-7358."
- Category is "Category:Media from PLOS Computational Biology" and anything else you chose
Here are some reasons why it is good that you asked:
- There ought to be an automatic uploader. The bot called Commons:User:Open Access Media Importer Bot has already uploaded Commons:Category:Media from PLOS Computational Biology, but it is still experimental and not for general use. If you are interested in a mass upload Daniel Mietchen might discuss that with you, but the bot does not currently scrape all media from that journal.
- There are various one-click image importer tools, like for example at Commons:Commons:Flickr files for Flickr, and some people wonder if there is a tool for everything. There is currently no tool for PLOS.
- Citation templates do not work on Commons because of lack of technical support. Do the best you can. Using plain text copy/paste from wiki is fine. The management of the millions of academic images is sort of a mess everywhere.
Thanks for asking. If I can help further then speak up. Blue Rasberry (talk) 17:00, 10 November 2016 (UTC)
- Hi Lane, thanks, that helps a lot. Are there licenses other than creative commons that allow me to upload properly cited figures from a journal paper? (if so is there a list?) And I agree, an automatic uploader would be very useful! Salubrious Toxin (talk) 14:33, 11 November 2016 (UTC)
- Yes, other licenses are used. I recommend being familiar with CC-By-SA and what it means to be more permissive or less permissive than that license. CC-By-SA is the least permissive license allowed, so any other license - regardless of its name or how it is worded - is allowed if it is at least as permissive as that license. The most notable other license sometimes used is the GNU Free Documentation License.
- Few people ask about the list of licenses because it is easier in most cases to just compare with CC-By-SA. For this reason, there is not a friendly-looking list. However, this is the most comprehensive list we have - Commons:Commons:List of primary license tags. If you have a question, post to WP:MED and they can give an opinion. I am traveling till next Friday and might not give a quick response if you need more info. Blue Rasberry (talk) 15:27, 11 November 2016 (UTC)
- Ah, that was very helpful, thanks. Salubrious Toxin (talk) 15:32, 11 November 2016 (UTC)
Can you please visit the Levy Library?
editIn Annenberg where we used to meet on floor 11 is the Levy Library. You must know it, right? If it is not inconvenient, could you drop in and ask to speak with Rebecca Shows? She has proposed that some librarians there learn a little about Wikipedia for the sake of students.
I gave her your contact, but if you are in the building, you might say hello on your own. Thanks if you can. Blue Rasberry (talk) 17:03, 10 November 2016 (UTC)
- She reached out, but we haven't had a chance to meet yet. I'll swing by and say hi! Salubrious Toxin (talk) 13:01, 11 November 2016 (UTC)

The Wikipedia Asian Month Edit-a-thon @ The Met will be hosted at the Metropolitan Museum of Art on Saturday November 16, 2019 in the Bonnie Sacerdote Classroom, Ruth and Harold D. Uris Center for Education (81st Street entrance) at The Met Fifth Avenue in New York City. The museum is excited to work with Wikipedia Asian Month for the potential to seed new articles about Asian artworks, artwork types, and art traditions, from any part of Asia. These can be illustrated with thousands of its recently-released images of public domain artworks available for Wikipedia and Wikimedia Commons from the museum’s collection spanning 5,000 years of art. The event is an opportunity for Wikimedia communities to engage The Met's diverse Asian collections onsite and remotely. Asia Art Archive will host a sister event in Hong Kong next week.

Wikiproject Anatomy newsletter #7
editReleased September 2020 · Previous newsletter
Hello WikiProject Anatomy participant! This is our seventh newsletter, documenting what's going on in WikiProject Anatomy, news, current projects and other items of interest.
I value feedback, and if you think I've missed something, or don't wish to receive this again, please leave a note on my talk page, or remove your name from the mailing list.
Yours truly, --Tom (LT) (talk) 07:24, 23 September 2020 (UTC)
What's new
editnew good articles since last newsletter include Epiglottis, Human nose, Pancreas, Prostate, Thymus, Trachea, T tubule, Ureter and Vagina, with Anatomical terms of location also awaiting review | |
A made-up eponymous term is used in our article that eventually makes it in to university anatomy teaching slides and a journal article | |
We reach a project goal of 150 B-class articles in July 2020, increasing by about 50% over five years, and are one good article away from our goal of 40 GAs, doubling over the last five years | |
In the real world, Terminologia Anatomica 2 and Terminologia Embryologica 2 are released ([5], [6]). Terminologia Anatomica 2 is now included in anatomy article infoboxes, and there is ongoing discussion about updating TE as well | |
A beautiful new barnstar is released ({{subst:The Anatomist Barnstar}}) | |
Portal:Anatomy receives some attention, and two related portals are deleted (vale Human body and Cranial nerve portals) | |
Some things left out from past newsletters - A large amount of redirects are created to help link plural structures, and Cerebellum ([7]) and Hippocampus ([8]) are published in Wikiversity. |
Newsletter topic: anatomy and featured articles
editI have been asked to write up something introducing the Featured article (FA) process to anatomy editors, but I took a more general approach to explaining why one might want to contribute featured content and the benefits to the editor and to Wikipedia. I also tried to address some misconceptions about the FA process, and give you a guide that is somewhat specific to health content should you decide to take the dive.
A vital purpose of Featured articles is to serve as examples for new and aspiring Wikipedia editors. FAs are often uniquely comprehensive for the Internet. They showcase some of our best articles, and can enhance Wikipedia's reputation if they are maintained to standard—but in an "anyone can edit" environment, they can easily fall out of standard if not maintained. Benefits to the writer include developing collaborative partnerships and learning new skills, while improving your writing and seeing it exposed to a broader audience—all that Wikipedia is about!
Looking more specifically at WP Anatomy's featured content, the Featured media is impressive and seems to be an Anatomy Project strength. The Anatomy WikiProject has tagged 4 FAs, 1 Featured list, and 30 Featured media. Working towards upgrading and maintaining older Featured articles could be a worthwhile goal. Immune system is a 2007 FA promotion, and bringing it up to date would make a nice collaboration between WikiProject Medicine and the Anatomy WikiProject. Hippocampus is another dated promotion that is almost 50% larger than when promoted, having taken on a bit of uncited text and new text that might benefit from a tune-up.
Whether tuning up an older FA at Featured article review, or attempting a new one to be reviewed at Featured article candidates, taking the plunge can be rewarding, and I hope the advice in my essay is helpful.
You can read the essay "Achieving excellence through featured content" here.
SandyGeorgia has been a regular FA reviewer at FAC and FAR since 2006, and has participated in thousands of nominations
How can I contribute?
edit- Ask questions! Talk with other editors, collaborate - and if you need help, ask at our project page!
- Continue to add content (and citations) to our articles
- Collaborate and discuss with other editors - many hands make light work!
- Find a space, task or type of article that you enjoy editing - there are lots of untended niches out there
This has been transcluded to the talk pages of all active WikiProject Anatomy users. To opt-out, remove your name from the mailing list

---|---|
Hi Wiki-Yorkers, We are reaching out as part of our community-building efforts at Wikimedia NYC. Our regional group is engaged in a strategic planning process to sharpen our strategy for the next three years, and we would like your input. Given your connection to us and your experience with Wikimedia NYC, I would be grateful if you would be willing to share some of your perspectives and insights as we think about our next chapter. Attached is an anonymous survey, which will remain active until February 28. Responses will go directly to Barretto Consulting and the Wikimedia NYC board will receive responses in aggregate and to identify cross-cutting themes. Please take some time to answer it and share your thoughts with us.
