editHi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Siege of Sevastopol (1854–55), you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Ely (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

Wikipedia and copyright
editHello Thurzajones, and welcome to Wikipedia. All or some of your addition(s) to Retford have been removed, as they appear to have added copyrighted material without evidence of permission from the copyright holder. While we appreciate your contributions to Wikipedia, there are certain things you must keep in mind about using information from sources to avoid copyright and plagiarism issues here.
- You can only copy/translate a small amount of a source, and you must mark what you take as a direct quotation with double quotation marks (") and cite the source using an inline citation. You can read about this at Wikipedia:Non-free content in the sections on "text". See also Help:Referencing for beginners, for how to cite sources here.
- Aside from limited quotation, you must put all information in your own words and structure, in proper paraphrase. Following the source's words too closely can create copyright problems, so it is not permitted here; see Wikipedia:Close paraphrasing. (There is a college-level introduction to paraphrase, with examples, hosted by the Online Writing Lab of Purdue.) Even when using your own words, you are still, however, asked to cite your sources to verify the information and to demonstrate that the content is not original research.
- Our primary policy on using copyrighted content is Wikipedia:Copyrights. You may also want to review Wikipedia:Copy-paste.
- If you own the copyright to the source you want to copy or are a legally designated agent, you may be able to license that text so that we can publish it here. Understand, though, that unlike many other sites, where a person can license their content for use there and retain non-free ownership, that is not possible at Wikipedia. Rather, the release of content must be irrevocable, to the world, into the public domain (PD) or under a suitably-free and compatible copyright license. Such a release must be done in a verifiable manner, so that the authority of the person purporting to release the copyright is evidenced. See Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials.
- In very rare cases (that is, for sources that are PD or compatibly licensed) it may be possible to include greater portions of a source text. However, please seek help at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions, the help desk or the Teahouse before adding such content to the article. 99.9% of sources may not be added in this way, so it is necessary to seek confirmation first. If you do confirm that a source is public domain or compatibly licensed, you will still need to provide full attribution; see Wikipedia:Plagiarism for the steps you need to follow.
- Also note that Wikipedia articles may not be copied or translated without attribution. If you want to copy or translate from another Wikipedia project or article, you must follow the copyright attribution steps in Wikipedia:Translation#How to translate. See also Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia.
It's very important that contributors understand and follow these practices, as policy requires that people who persistently do not must be blocked from editing. If you have any questions about this, you are welcome to leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. — Diannaa 🍁 (talk) 12:48, 27 June 2018 (UTC)

Copyright violations on Steven Sykes (artist)
editI have had to remove many of your additions to this article as they were clear copyright violations - close paraphrases copying much of the wording used word-for-word - of materials already on the Web: I have identified the sources in the edit comments I made when deleting the additions.
Please be aware that Wikipedia takes copyright violation extremely seriously: it is absolutely forbidden even if you change the word order around a bit. Please read the policy (linked) and take care not to do it again. Many thanks, Chiswick Chap (talk) 14:44, 4 August 2018 (UTC)
Multiple uncited additions, unwarranted removal of 'refimprove' tag
editHallo, and sorry to have to revisit your talk page so soon. However, I have noticed that among your many useful additions to articles, there are many claims which remain uncited, and on Retford you have in addition removed the correctly placed 'refimprove' tag which called for more citations in the text. I hope you are aware of the centrality of the policies of verifiability and reliable sourcing to the encyclopedia: they are essential in every article, and I hope you will take the time to look them over and absorb their messages. Many thanks, Chiswick Chap (talk) 17:50, 4 August 2018 (UTC)

Ways to improve Jane Perry (actress)
editHi, I'm Etzedek24. Thurzajones, thanks for creating Jane Perry (actress)!
I've just tagged the page, using our page curation tools, as having some issues to fix. IMDB is not to be used for generating notability, so it should be moved to external links.
The tags can be removed by you or another editor once the issues they mention are addressed. If you have questions, you can leave a comment on my talk page. Or, for more editing help, talk to the volunteers at the Teahouse.

Copyright problem: Willi Soukop
editHello, and welcome to Wikipedia! We welcome and appreciate your contributions, such as Willi Soukop, but we regretfully cannot accept copyrighted text or images from either web sites or printed works. This article appears to contain work copied from https://www.independent.co.uk/news/people/obituary-willi-soukop-1572170.html https://sculpture.gla.ac.uk/view/person.php?id=msib4_1276258709 https://www.royalcollection.org.uk/collection/922910/a-sculptor-in-his-studio, and therefore to constitute a violation of Wikipedia's copyright policies. The copyrighted text has been or will soon be deleted. While we appreciate contributions, we must require all contributors to understand and comply with our copyright policy. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously, and persistent violators are liable to be blocked from editing.
If you believe that the article is not a copyright violation, or if you have permission from the copyright holder to release the content freely under license allowed by Wikipedia, then you should do one of the following:
- If you have permission from the author to release the text under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike License (CC-BY-SA), leave a message explaining the details at Talk:Willi Soukop and send an email with confirmation of permission to "permissions-en (at) wikimedia (dot) org". Make sure you quote the exact page name, Willi Soukop, in your email. See Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for instructions.
- If you hold the copyright to the work: send an e-mail from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en(at)wikimedia(dot)org or a postal message to the Wikimedia Foundation permitting re-use under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike License and GNU Free Documentation License, and note that you have done so on Talk:Willi Soukop. See Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials for instructions.
- If a note on the original website states that re-use is permitted "under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike License (CC-BY-SA), version 3.0", or that the work is released into the public domain, or if you have strong reason to believe it is, leave a note at Talk:Willi Soukop with a link to where we can find that note or your explanation of why you believe the content is free for reuse.
It may also be necessary for the text be modified to have an encyclopedic tone and to follow Wikipedia article layout. For more information on Wikipedia's policies, see Wikipedia's policies and guidelines.
If you would like to begin working on a new version of the article you may do so at this temporary page. Leave a note at Talk:Willi Soukop saying you have done so and an administrator will move the new article into place once the issue is resolved.
Thank you, and please feel welcome to continue contributing to Wikipedia. Happy editing! Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 17:11, 26 August 2018 (UTC)
- I see that you have already been warned about copyrights by Diannaa and by Chiswick Chap, so it's quite worrying to find copyright problems in a more recent article. Is there some aspect of our copyright policy that isn't completely clear to you? If so, please ask (here on this page) and I'll do my best to explain. Meanwhile, the policy is, in a nutshell: you can't copy anything at all from other sources, and you risk being prevented from further editing if you do. Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 17:11, 26 August 2018 (UTC)
No I don't understand what the problem is. First of all, check out the work of Chiswick chap who has used one source for half his article and no-one has pulled him up on that. Steven Sykes (artist). He's called it Steven Sykes artist and most of the article is not even about Steven Sykes' art. I did not copy the article from the obituary - that's pretty insulting. You are also blaming me for copy that was already there before I edited anything, which was uncited and no-one did anything about it.I'm just going to reverse all my edits and leave it as an uncited article like I found it with no images of his work. Don't worry I won't be contributing anything else to Wikipedia. I'm done. Thurzajones (talk) 18:28, 26 August 2018 (UTC)
- Hey, please calm down a bit – you don't have to leave, or take umbrage, or whatever. If you don't understand, I will, as I said, try to explain. Here's an example of what I mean: with this edit you added the phrase "... blending influences from Jacob Epstein, Henri Gaudier-Brzeska, Henry Moore, Barbara Hepworth, Hans Coper and others". That is copied word-for-word from this page, in which the copyright is held by the Royal Collection Trust. You can't do that here. If you want to include that information in the article, you need to express it entirely in your own words; you could, for example, write "Among the artists whose work influenced Soukop were Hans Coper, Jacob Epstein, Henri Gaudier-Brzeska, Barbara Hepworth and Henry Moore" or "Soukop drew on the work of Coper, Epstein, Gaudier-Brzeska, Hepworth and Moore, among others". You can express the same information and ideas, but not in the same form of words. Does that help at all? (yes, I've seen your recent edit to that article). Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 19:12, 26 August 2018 (UTC)

Deletion discussion about The Beyond (2017 film)
editHello, SandraHatman789,
I wanted to let you know that there's a discussion about whether The Beyond (2017 film) should be deleted. Your comments are welcome at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/The Beyond (2017 film) .
If you're new to the process, articles for deletion is a group discussion (not a vote!) that usually lasts seven days. If you need it, there is a guide on how to contribute. Last but not least, you are highly encouraged to continue improving the article; just be sure not to remove the tag about the deletion nomination from the top.
Thanks,
The article Hasraf Dullul has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
Promotional article for non-notable director. No coverage beyond mere mention in reliable sources, sources provided by article are not independent, does not meet WP:GNG. Filmography does not meet the criteria at WP:FILMMAKER.
While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. signed, Rosguill talk 22:59, 3 October 2018 (UTC)

ArbCom 2018 election voter message
editHello, SandraHatman789. Voting in the 2018 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23.59 on Sunday, 3 December. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.
If you wish to participate in the 2018 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 18:42, 19 November 2018 (UTC)
Your draft article, Draft:Bassetlaw Museum
editHello, SandraHatman789. It has been over six months since you last edited the Articles for Creation submission or Draft page you started, "Bassetlaw Museum".
