Is Confiscated_Armenian_properties_in_Turkey covered by any surviving ArbCom sanction? It appears to rather heavily promote the (paraphrase) "Turkish families all benefitted from the Armenian Genocide" general point of view, to the extent that it iterates Armenian Genocide" every place possible :(. I am quite unsure that this article still complies with WP:NPOV right now, having been vastly expanded since it made GA. Cheers. Collect (talk) 20:31, 6 December 2014 (UTC)

I think that the WP:ARBAA2 sanctions apply, because this is an article related to Armenia.  Sandstein  20:34, 6 December 2014 (UTC)

Request for review

Hi. This past January you deleted an article on Flula Borg on the basis of non-notability as well as issues with some of the sources used in the article. I asked you at that time how the article could be improved and you gave me some advice, and said that when I felt it was ready I should submit it for review at WP:DRV. I've done a lot of work to find better sources and write a better article and now I feel that it's ready. (To be clear, I believe, based on #1, 11, and 12 at WP:MUSBIO as well as #2 at WP:ENT, that Mr. Borg is sufficiently notable, and that only the poor writing and sourcing in the original article obscured that fact.)

I've looked at the DRV page with the intention of submitting the article for review, but it says I should talk to the administrator who deleted the article before I bother submitting anything there, so that's what I'm doing. I'm wondering if you might have a look at my draft of the article and let me know if you feel it's ready to be posted or, if not, what more needs to happen before it will be viable.

Thanks so much for your time. I look forward to hearing from you. -- edi(talk) 21:50, 26 November 2014 (UTC)

I'm just checking in again to see if you might have missed my question. It would be extremely helpful for me to see your thoughts on this article. I don't want to be a nuisance; I'm just trying to follow the guidelines as I understand them. Thanks again for your time. Have a good week. -- edi(talk) 20:37, 7 December 2014 (UTC)
@EdiOnjales: Sorry, I overlooked your message. I can't properly evaluate your draft because the references are provided in a format that omits their provenance (e.g., the name of the newspaper or other publication). This makes me unable to tell at a glance whether there is sufficient coverage in reliable sources. I advise you to use footnotes in the {{cite news}} or {{cite web}} format and to supply data for the "newspaper" or "website" parameter to remedy this. As a general remark, search engine results pages such as this are inadmissible as sources, and all sources must comply with WP:BLPSOURCES, which generally does not apply to self-published material such as YouTube videos.  Sandstein  20:45, 7 December 2014 (UTC)
Ah, that's helpful. Thank you very much for the information. I'll make the changes you suggest and get back to you. -- edi(talk) 07:40, 8 December 2014 (UTC)

Page on Lin Beifong

Hi,

I see you've been editing the 'Legend of Korra' Season 4 page a lot, and your work is really professional. I just wondered if you would like to help me create pages for the individual characters in the tv show. They have pages for characters from ATLA, such as Zuko, Katara and so on. I feel that the characters from TLOK need their own pages.

I started with Lin Beifong, and I'm going to want to work on some other characters, like Mako and Bolin sooner or later.

Here's the link to the draft: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:Lin_Beifong Feel free to tell me what I'm doing wrong, and help me make a more reliable and interesting page. I'm having troubles with the infoboxes and images.. I'm a newbie.

Thanks, Matt.

Hi, and welcome to Wikipedia. I think it's great that you want to contribute an article. However, Wikipedia's rules are such that not every topic is considered deserving its own article. We call this "notability", and it's described at WP:N. In brief, only if a topic has been covered in some depth in independent reliable sources do we write an article about it. For a fictional character such as Lin Beifong, this would mean discussions specifically about the character (not e.g. mere mentions) in reliable sources such as newspapers or entertainment news websites with editorial oversight (i.e., not blogs or fansites). I think that it might be possible that Lin Beifong meets this requirement, but more likely she does not. That's why I recommend that you first read WP:N and then start collecting sources needed to reference the article's content. If not, the article may well be deleted after you've already done a lot of work on it.
The second page you should read is WP:WAF. It describes how we cover fiction in Wikipedia. Also in brief, we write about it from the perspective of the real world. That means that we cover such aspects as how a character was developed, what the creators were influenced by, what influence the character had on other works, and in which works she appeared. Only as a secondary consideration we may also add a synopsis of what the character did in the works of fiction she appeared in. If an article contains nothing but plot summary, as your draft does, then this is usually a sign that it is not ready for the limelight (and rude Wikipedians may call such content WP:FANCRUFT), and that it may not meet our inclusion requirements.
I advise you to look for reliable sources first and use them to write a real-world-based draft of an article about Lin Beifong as a character in a television series, rather than as a person in the Avatar universe. You can take the article Aang in this version as a reasonably good example (the recent version again contains too much in-universe content). If you think have such a draft, I'll be happy to look at it again.  Sandstein  19:43, 8 December 2014 (UTC)

Rhinorulz

It appears that in '07, my user page was deleted. I have no memory of ever editing my user page, and it should have been the blank template. I'm curious as to what the contents of the page were that caused it to be deleted in the first place. The page lists a deletion reason as copyright spam, but this confuses me, as I never recall placing anything on my user page.Rhinorulz (talk) 20:03, 8 December 2014 (UTC)

Apparently you did. From the deleted history:
(del/undel) (diff) 19:50, 6 September 2007 . . Rhinorulz (talk | contribs | block) (387 bytes) (←Created page with 'Rhinorulz is the username for the person that will be a future metaphysical engenere and has engenered a warp engine. metaphysical engenering by my own description...')
If you want I can restore this content (I don't recall how or why I came to delete it), but you may prefer to write something else about yourself instead. Regards,  Sandstein  20:08, 8 December 2014 (UTC)

Thanks, that looks better. But, frankly, the English isn't very good yet, it will need some copyediting. Regards,  Sandstein  18:38, 16 December 2014 (UTC)

Simple Thanks

Hello, you made some edits and took the time to correct me about proper form here on Wikipedia. I'm new and do apologize for the mistakes on Conrad Blacks page. I just wanted to say thank you for that and also for all you do. Cheers. You're welcome, no need to apologize.  Sandstein  18:39, 16 December 2014 (UTC)

Aspis and hoplon

Hi, I noticed that you recently move the article "aspis" to "hoplon", stating in the edit summary that the former is the more general term and that the latter is more specific. I didn't see any discussion of this decision on the talk page, and am contacting you to suggest we take a closer look at this. It appears from my own brief research that "hoplon" is a general term for any arms or weapon of war (hence "hoplite") but that "aspis" is specifically the Ancient Greek for the traditional heavy wooden round "shield", and is therefore the more specific term. Certainly both terms are in common usage today to refer to the same item (the shield), but I wonder if "aspis" is not maybe the more appropriate namespace for the Wikipedia article on the subject. Can you explain your decision to move it out of "aspis" and over to "hoplon" for me in greater detail? Much appreciated. Thanks! KDS4444Talk 17:14, 18 December 2014 (UTC)

Hi, I'm responding on Talk:Hoplon.  Sandstein  17:54, 18 December 2014 (UTC)

WP:DSN and WP:AE

Quick question. Do comments which accuse others of racism or xenophobia, which are made during a discussion at the Dispute Resolution noticeboard, subject to discretionary sanctions at WP:AE? In particular, if the user in question has been repeatedly warned about these kinds of remarks? Volunteer Marek (talk) 22:47, 20 December 2014 (UTC)

Yes, if they relate to a topic area subject to discretionary sanctions, and the remedy imposing them is not limited to articles.  Sandstein  22:50, 20 December 2014 (UTC)

Armenian Genocide denial

Hi Sandstein, Étienne Dolet has mentioned in the talk section of the Armenian Genocide denial that adding sourced and researched information regarding a point of view on Armenian Genocide allegations is not permitted. I can personally send you many works that support the fact that the treatment of Armenians was not any worse than let's say, Turks under Russian-Armenian occupation, Turks in the Balkans, or many minorities during the conquests of Napoleon, or any other total war situation for that matter. However, this is my personal view, not what I was trying to add into the article.

I do not believe the goal of Wikipedia is to have a certain bias, and only add scholarship works that match that bias. Yet, that is what is happening at the moment. Any sources, articles, arguments, no matter how rational and researched they are, seem to be not permitted. I see some contra-arguments that are allowed in the article, although the argument is made sound ridiculous, by not providing the entire argument. I had made an edit in which I asked merely for citations, even that edit was reverted.

The reason I come to you is Étienne Dolet 'threatening' me that if I do not fit the bias I will be banned by you. May I ask your opinion on this matter? --Behzat (talk) 03:29, 28 December 2014 (UTC)

Hi, as far as I can tell nobody has threatened you with a ban by me. What is true is that this topic is subject to discretionary sanctions as described at WP:AC/DS, and if an uninvolved administrator considers that you have violated Wikipedia's rules of conduct, which include WP:NPOV, they may impose sanctions including blocks and topic bans. I am however not interested at this time in assessing whether that is the case. Such assessments are normally only made following a request at WP:AE.  Sandstein  07:40, 28 December 2014 (UTC)

Hi Sandstein. I posted a note about how User:Timotheus Canens/massrestore.js might be helpful at Wikipedia:Deletion review/Log/2014 December 18#184 Carex articles here at User talk:Timotheus Canens#Wikipedia:Deletion review/Log/2014 December 18#184 Carex articles.
