Editing
editHi, I've just been looking at some of your recent edits and felt that the following tips would help you edit.
- References should not be included in headings
- We have some templates that make life easier, such as Template:CensusAU which links to specific sections in Census in Australia. For example, {{CensusAU|2016}} is the same as manually typing [[Census in Australia#2016|2016 census]]. Another is Template:Census 2016 AUS which makes for easy and consistent referencing to ABS Quickstats, rather than writing out the reference in full and can quickly and easily be updated at the next census.
- Punctuation should be added immediately after text, without spacing: e.g. "Australia," not "Australia ,"
- Demographic information should be added in prose format, rather than abbreviated as was the case at Nelsons Plains, New South Wales.
- When updating population figures, they should be consistently updated throughout the article.
You can see the changes that I made to Nelsons Plains, New South Wales here. Happy editing. --AussieLegend (✉) 08:29, 16 October 2020 (UTC)

The article Gentleman John Smith has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. ... discospinster talk 10:36, 16 October 2020 (UTC)
Thomas Adams
editPlease note that disambiguation pages like Thomas Adams are meant to help readers find a specific existing article quickly and easily. For that reason, they have guidelines that are different from articles. From the Wikipedia:Disambiguation dos and don'ts you should:
- Only list articles that readers might reasonably be looking for
- Use short sentence fragment descriptions, with no punctuation at the end
- Use exactly one navigable link ("blue link") in each entry that mentions the title being disambiguated
- Only add a "red link" if used in existing articles, and include a "blue link" to an appropriate article
- Do not pipe links (unless style requires it) – keep the full title of the article visible
- Do not insert external links or references - Wikipedia is not a business directory

Editing again
editPlease note that, per WP:REFPUNCT, punctuation is placed before references, not after. Please fix this edit and any others where you have not complied with WP:REFPUNCT. --AussieLegend (✉) 11:24, 21 October 2020 (UTC)

Copyright infringement
editI can see that you are a new editor, but you need to know that Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously. You must not copy and paste text from sources you find on the web into articles as you did in the article Berry Park, New South Wales. The infringing text has been removed because the material you copied is subject to copyright, as is almost everything on the web. When creating or expanding articles, you should completely rewrite the information from the source using your own words. Cwmhiraeth (talk) 10:00, 17 December 2020 (UTC)
Speedy deletion nomination of John Edward Stacy
editIf this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
A tag has been placed on John Edward Stacy requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be an unambiguous copyright infringement. This page appears to be a direct copy from https://adb.anu.edu.au/biography/stacy-john-edward-4631. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images taken from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites or other printed material as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.
If the external website or image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text or image — which means allowing other people to use it for any reason — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. The same holds if you are not the owner but have their permission. If you are not the owner and do not have permission, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for how you may obtain it. You might want to look at Wikipedia's copyright policy for more details, or ask a question here.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. editYour edit to Newcastle, New South Wales has been removed in whole or in part, as it appears to have added copyrighted material to Wikipedia without evidence of permission from the copyright holder. If you are the copyright holder, please read Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials for more information on uploading your material to Wikipedia. For legal reasons, Wikipedia cannot accept copyrighted material, including text or images from print publications or from other websites, without an appropriate and verifiable license. All such contributions will be deleted. You may use external websites or publications as a source of information, but not as a source of content, such as sentences or images—you must write using your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously, and persistent violators of our copyright policy will be blocked from editing. Punctuation and references and Copyvio
editPer the previous advice that I gave you above in Editing again, please remember that references are placed after punctuation. For more guidance see WP:REFPUNCT. --AussieLegend (✉) 16:53, 10 March 2021 (UTC)
- Hello. I was coming to advise you of the same thing. Reference go after the punctuation. I see that my note here is the fourth time you have been advised on how to do that. Continuing to put them before the punctuation creates unnecessary work for other editors. I also had to remove some copyvio from a recent article you authored, so please take more care not to copy directly. Thanks. --- Possibly (talk) 04:04, 7 April 2021 (UTC)

Are you aware of this page, Sarah?
editHi, Sarah. I see you have received a lot of advice above, mainly concerning grammar, punctuation and copyright violations. You have not replied to any of the posts here, nor changed the way you edit in any way. That makes me suspect that perhaps you're not aware of this page, your own talkpage. I have therefore blocked you for two weeks. Please note that I'm not trying to stop you editing; the purpose of the block is to help you find this page. As soon as you show that you have found it, by posting a response to me below, you can be unblocked. Best wishes, Bishonen | tålk 13:48, 14 April 2021 (UTC).

Disambiguation link notification for May 12
editHi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited New Lambton Heights, New South Wales, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Unwed Mother. Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)
It's OK to remove this message. Also, to stop receiving these messages, follow these opt-out instructions. Thanks, DPL bot (talk) 06:03, 12 May 2021 (UTC)
Blocked again, I'm afraid
editHi again, Sarah. Since you have continued to ignore all warnings and advice, both on this page and in this ANI thread, and have simply waited out my two-week block and then continued to make the same errors, I have blocked you indefinitely. You'll have to respond below if you want to be unblocked. Wikipedia is a collaborative project, and you need to show some responsiveness to concerns. Bishonen | tålk 15:44, 15 May 2021 (UTC).
- Can I please have some clarification on my mistakes I continue to make or maybe some examples so I can improve my writing. Sarah.Xenos (talk) 17:22, 15 May 2021 (UTC)
- Have you read the messages above, Sarah? They contain many tips about problems that other editors have spotted. Please read them and take them on board. I'll mention some things that strike me:
- 1. Punctuation goes before references, not after. This is an example where you have added three references, all of them with the full stop after the reference. It needs to go before. Indeed, you make this mistake every time you add a reference.
- 2. Please use only complete, correct sentences. This, for instance, here, is a poor and unclear sentence: "In the 1850's owned land with the Dangar family owned 600,000 acres of land in Walcha". Can you see what the problems are? I'm not sure what it means, but I think it should be something like "In the 1850s Rundle owned 600,000 acres of land in Walcha together with the Dangar family". Perhaps you write too hurriedly, and need to slow down. Your addition here contains several incomplete, or otherwise ungrammatical sentences. I'll quote them below:
- "Born in Castlehill in September 1804."
- "He helped established in village of Camberwell in the 1860's." I don't understand what it means to "help establish in village".
- "Died on April 28th 1884 and he buried at St Clements church ground."
- 3. I want to draw your attention particularly to the post headed "Copyright infringement" above on this page.[1] Respecting copyright is extremely important here, so don't, ever, copy text straight from the internet or out of a book. Get your facts from the sources, but not the exact wording.
- Finally, from now on, please don't ignore the people who post here. Answer them and try to learn from them. Do you think you can take care of the problems I have described? Please reply below. If something I've said isn't clear, please ask. Bishonen | tålk 20:22, 15 May 2021 (UTC).
I have read though the style guide and the previous comment with a better understanding of the mistakes I’m continuing to make. I have been too eager to share the information. In the future I apply more edit to my writing and check resources more carefully. Sarah.Xenos (talk) 06:44, 18 May 2021 (UTC)
- All right, you have been unblocked — a last chance unblock. I hope you live up to the promises you have made. If you're blocked again, it will not be easy to be unblocked. If you violate our copyright policy again, you will definitely be blocked, I'm sorry to say. Bishonen | tålk 16:43, 5 June 2021 (UTC).
John Eales
editAn anonymous editor has correctly picked up that you made a right mess at John Eales by confusing father and son, and adding a bunch of material about the father to the article about the son. There is a forty year age difference between the (correct) date of birth in the article, and the one of the person you "corrected" it to? Didn't it twig that maybe you needed to do a bit more fact-checking before changing the article? The amended version doesn't even make logical sense, because it has him being educated in Sydney and yet arriving in Australia in his 20s after that occurred, and being a first-generation immigrant who both inherited and acquired the same estate. The Drover's Wife (talk) 09:34, 16 August 2021 (UTC)
You must use Articles for creation from now on
editHi again, Sarah. I see that you created an article recently, Newcomen Street Corporation Baths. I'm afraid it was (and actually still is, despite editing by others) of poor quality, especially as concerns the broken English syntax. There are some weak sources also, such as [2]. I have to tell you that you must not create articles of this quality directly in article space (that is to say, you must not create articles directly, but only drafts). Instead, please use Articles for creation. Please go there and see how it works. This is a serious instruction: you must no longer create articles directly. It is only if you abide by this that you will remain unblocked. Good luck, and please ask if there's anything you don't understand about using Articles for creation. Bishonen | tålk 11:54, 16 August 2021 (UTC).
Blocked
editHi again, Sarah. You have been warned repeatedly, blocked twice, unblocked with an AGF effort on my part, and then, after creating further non-viable articles, you were given the positively last chance warning immediately above, with clear instructions to henceforth only create articles via the Articles for creation process. I'm sorry to see you have ignored it, creating yet another weak article with many problems directly in mainspace.[3] You have been blocked indefinitely. If you think there are good reasons why you should be unblocked, you may appeal this block by adding below this notice the text {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}
, but you should read the guide to appealing blocks first. Bishonen | tålk 08:57, 13 October 2021 (UTC).

The article was given to me by someone else so I believed it was edited Sarah.Xenos (talk) 09:57, 13 October 2021 (UTC)
- Sorry, I don't understand what that means. "Given" by whom, under what circumstances? Are you posting for other people, or are several people using the Sarah.Xenos account? Bishonen | tålk 14:00, 13 October 2021 (UTC).
I am volunteer if University of Newcastle GLAMx lab. The supervisor of the project requested the manager. She wanted the project that the University was involved in up on Wikipedia. So I posted in hindsight against my better judgment. I tried to remove some of the more descriptive language in hope it make more neutral. Sarah.Xenos (talk) 15:34, 13 October 2021 (UTC)
- I'm afraid none of that makes me any more inclined to unblock you; the opposite, if anything. But if you follow the instructions for requesting unblock that I've given above, an uninvolved admin will come to this page to review your appeal. Bishonen | tålk 18:13, 13 October 2021 (UTC).
- @Bishonen: Below you can see that the article has been tagged for deletion. I think the article should be deleted, but it's not clear to me that it qualifies for WP:G11. One more thing: see TrimtheCat. Sarah apparently has a colleague.--Bbb23 (talk) 19:16, 14 October 2021 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of Stories of Our Town
editIf this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
A tag has been placed on Stories of Our Town, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, group, product, service, person, or point of view and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become encyclopedic. Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Organizations for more information.
If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. 2A01:4C8:61:4F01:18E7:9FF7:5AD1:8E06 (talk) 10:13, 13 October 2021 (UTC)
