I was wondering, I know you did this for the Chicago project, but do you think you could run through Category:Illinois and make sure the project banner is on all of those? {{WikiProject Illinois}} would be what is needed to be added. Let me know if you would please if you could do this. If not, no worries. (Do you think we should have it class=stub?) Thanks!--Kranar drogin 23:00, 28 June 2007 (UTC)
- Hi, Kranar. Is there a list of Illinois categories? I won't let the bot run through cats and subcats, since that can lead to some pretty nasty over-tagging. But if you have a list of cats, I'd be glad to add it to the bot's weekly maintenance run. -- SatyrTN (talk | contribs) 00:46, 29 June 2007 (UTC)
- Let me see what we got. Since I didn't found the group, I am still finding stuff as we go along. I might create one over a couple days here so we can do that.--Kranar drogin 01:28, 29 June 2007 (UTC)
- Would you want something like this Category:Category-Class WikiProject Illinois articles, or would it have to be a page? If you need a Page, I will do that after I go through the entire Illinois category, place a tag on the page of the cats, then copy this page to a Illinois Wiki group page.--Kranar drogin 01:31, 29 June 2007 (UTC)
- Now that is a great idea! Why didn't I think of that? Yes - the Category:Category-Class WikiProject Illinois articles listing will work just fine. I'll have to tweak the bot to use it, but it's the best method I've seen, so that's no problem. -- SatyrTN (talk | contribs) 05:19, 29 June 2007 (UTC)
Great! I will have to go through our cats and make sure that tag is on them all. Can you wait until tomorrow before you begin? Or if you do start, will it run for awhile so I can have time to make sure the cats all have their tags? Thanks!--Kranar drogin 10:25, 29 June 2007 (UTC)
- Was also wondering, are you able to switch out Infoboxes with Geoboxes or know a bot a person runs that I can get this done? We have like 1000, so doing it manually is out of the question. Let me know when you get a chance. Thanks!--Kranar drogin 04:16, 3 July 2007 (UTC)
- Can you give me an example diff? I can (probably) program the bot to do that for a one-shot deal. That will be in the actual article space, not on talk pages, right? I'll have to go through bot-approval to do so, but I've been wanting to do that anyway, so that's not a problem. -- SatyrTN (talk | contribs) 05:04, 3 July 2007 (UTC)
- Yes, this will be on the main page. Ok, here are the two examples. Byron Township, Ogle County, Illinois is an example of the geobox that I want to have, and Eagle Point Township, Ogle County, Illinois is an example of the infobox I want changed to the geobox. The top picture wouldn't be in it of course, I simply have added that. If you need more examples, the template at the bottom should be able to provide that for you. It is mixed right now since I haven't gotten around to changing them all yet.--Kranar drogin 10:30, 3 July 2007 (UTC)
- Wow. That's a major undertaking.
- From what I can see on the talk pages of {{Infobox Settlement}} and {{Geobox Settlement}}, there's still some discussion about merging the two. And Caroig seems to have a script that will convert. I'm hesitant about doing a conversion for many reasons, but I've added a note to Infobox Settlement to see what the status is of the merge / conversion process. Let me see what's said there and we can see how to proceed. Are there particular items in the Geobox that you like better than the Infobox? Just curious :) I spent a ton of time manually adding {{Infobox City}} to 220 cities and towns in New Hampshire, so I'm interested in this conversion.
- Thanks, -- SatyrTN (talk | contribs) 14:45, 3 July 2007 (UTC)
There is a couple things I like about the geobox MUCH better than info. For starts, the map. You simply input the GPS, and it puts a little dot on the map for you (as long as the guys have created a map for the state). Then it can get rid of those man-made paint ones, and you don't have to create a map. So one of the biggest reasons is it saves space on the Wikipedia itself. It also include a picture of the US with your state highlighted. I love that, since this is a worldwide encyclopedia, it gives people in other nations I talk too a good understanding of where I am coming from on a certain city/town. The Illinois Project, and I think Chicago Project (but I can't speak for them) use the geobox now. Another reason I like it, is the GPS coords are put up there at the top right, and that then links to Google Earth, puttin a dot on there. Geobox auto calculate the water percentage also. So, overall, I just like the structure and the feel of it better. On top of using Geobox Township, I also use Geobox City for cities.
I know about spending time with the Infobox Township, I used that for most of the townships until I was pointed to this thing and slapped myself in the head. If I had found it sooner, I would have done the 1000 entries with Infoboxes with Geoboxes instead. Hope this explains a little better.--Kranar drogin 23:37, 3 July 2007 (UTC)
- Ok, if you want to start running the bot to tag Category:Category-Class WikiProject Illinois articles with {{WikiProject Illinois}} (please include the |class=), I think we are ready for it. I am going to put a message on the Illinois Project page so people can put complaints there incase some alumni pages I missed changing to NA instead of Category. I am hoping this one will run smoothly.--Kranar drogin 22:09, 8 July 2007 (UTC)
- Are you going to be able to run this program Satyr, or do you need a page of Cats rather than all the categories like how we have them? Just wanted to know since I am almost done rating all the pages that are currently unassessed.--Kranar drogin 00:11, 18 July 2007 (UTC)
- Oops - sorry. totally lost track of this.
- I've just re-programmed the bot to handle the "Category:Category-Class WP:ILL articles" format. It should start running tonight. Totally sorry about that! -- SatyrTN (talk | contribs) 04:53, 18 July 2007 (UTC)
No problem, thanks for your help so far. Change of plans if you see this before you run the next batch. Don't add the "|class=" from now on. This interferes I guesss with Dual who runs AWB in order to rate articles that have already been rated by other projects. So if you could just run the WikiProject Illinois just as is, would be great. If you can't change now, no problem. Thanks!--Kranar drogin 02:03, 20 July 2007 (UTC)
- Hi, Kranar, I only just now noticed your comment about "class=". I've removed that from the bot's code for this project. -- SatyrTN (talk | contribs) 15:41, 20 July 2007 (UTC)
- No problem. Thanks for doing so even though I guess he figured out a way to work around it. No worries, haha!--Kranar drogin 21:05, 20 July 2007 (UTC)
- Copying to your other Satyr page also. I have changed some of the categories since there is concern that we have tagged some of the sports teams of Chicago also. Just can you check the Category-Class for an update. I have basically moved all the sports team players to NA instead of Category. You don't have to go and change anything as of right now as far as tags that have been put out already. Things are looking great so far otherwise!--Kranar drogin 23:10, 23 July 2007 (UTC)
Ok, this is going to cause more work for you, sorry. I have moved some of the categories that were like Chicago Cubs players to NA now. Is there a way for you to remove the tags from the players that the bot added? Here is the conversation Tony had with me [1]. Let me know what you think on that thread. Thanks!--Kranar drogin 23:18, 23 July 2007 (UTC)
First run
Hi, Kranar! The first run last night was a total bust. Reviewed 923 categories and not a single tag. Stupid coding error on my part. I've just made the fix and run a test run, so it's now working. -- SatyrTN (talk | contribs) 14:12, 18 July 2007 (UTC)
- Is there any way that the articles could be automatically assessed to match an assessment done by another project? Maybe detect class=stub on the talk page then place WikiProject Illinois|class=stub instead of the default template? Thatnks for the help tagging articles. --Dual Freq 12:24, 20 July 2007 (UTC)
- Hi, Dual! The bot is already detecting "stub" templates on the article itself, and GA / FA class tags on the talk page. I hesitate to go by what other projects rate the article since a) there may be multiple projects with different ratings, and b) different projects may have different criteria for their ratings. I'll keep it in mind, though, as a possible enhancement to the bot. There's been a bit of talk about this subject - I think at WP:COUNCIL - so I'm following along to see what consensus says. Thanks for the note! -- SatyrTN (talk | contribs) 15:40, 20 July 2007 (UTC)
Request for a picture
I believe you added the request for a picture to the Hap Moran article. I assume this was related to his having played for the Chicago Cardinals. Did you want just any picture or were you looking for a picture of him in a Chicago Cardinals uniform? Revmoran 00:41, 23 July 2007 (UTC)
