Page linking

Please link the flag and anthem of the Nickelodeons in Denmark, Montenegro, Serbia, Kazakhstan, Russia & Turkmenistan. Also link articles Chip 'n Dale Rescue Rangers 174.89.26.164 (talk) 02:28, 19 July 2013 (UTC)

Hello, I'm happy to help with those articles. I'm not quite sure what you are looking for though. I see on the Nickelodeon (Denmark) page, that there's a line which reads "Nickelodeon signs-on at 5:00 AM with national anthem with flag, promo, block ident and programmes." Are you saying that you'd like that line to read something like "Nickelodeon signs-on at 5:00 am with the national anthem of Denmark "Der er et yndigt land" and Denmark's flag, promo, block ident and programmes." Is that what you're looking to do for Denmark's and the other country's Nickelodeon or Nick Jr. articles? Let me know what you are looking for and we can work to make those articles better. Thanks, SchreiberBike talk 03:07, 19 July 2013 (UTC)
Yes this is what i'm looking for. I'm looking for their flags and anthems. Also link the words EBS, RTS & MBC3 on the Chip 'n Dale Rescue Rangers as I mentioned before. 174.89.26.164 (talk) 15:04, 19 July 2013 (UTC)
I've gone ahead and made the change on Nickelodeon (Denmark). Do you know what promo and block ident should link to? Also, based on the text there, it's not clear what is carried on that channel from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm.
I've also made the change on Nickelodeon (Montenegro). I note that on that article it says that the channel runs 24/7 in one place, but says 6:00 am to 6:00 pm in another. It also says "handover to RTCG from 6:00 am until 3:00 pm daily" - those times don't match with the other parts of the article. Do you know which parts are right?
Since you're editing as an IP address, I can't be sure, but it looks like you are reasonably good at Wiki markup. Why don't you make these changes yourself? Also, it would be nice to create an account so your history of edits accumulates and you can create an identity on Wikipedia. I'll work with you on the other changes in the future. SchreiberBike talk 16:50, 19 July 2013 (UTC)
He also said that the Nicks of Serbia, Kazakhstan, Russia & Turkmenistan need to have links of the anthem and flags. NewFranco (talk) 20:05, 19 July 2013 (UTC)
Nickelodeon (Serbia), Nick Jr. (Kazakhstan), Nick Jr. (Russia) and Nick Jr. (Turkmenistan) are done. I also edited Chip 'n Dale Rescue Rangers.
Serbia has the problem with 24/7 in one place and 3:00 am to 6:00 pm in another. For the Turkmenistan article, do you know if the Türkmenbaşy refers to Saparmurat Niyazov or something else; it links to a disambiguation page now. On Chip 'n Dale Rescue Rangers, there was no link for MBC3, but there was one for MBC1, which I linked to MBC 1 (Middle East).
I hope that helps. Let me know if you have any other projects. You may be interested in working with Wikipedia:WikiProject Television. SchreiberBike talk 22:19, 19 July 2013 (UTC)

collaboration

Dear SchreiberBike, Recently I observed your edits on the pages of my interest. On your user page you say that you like to collaborate to improve an article. Would you like to collaborate with me for improving articles?? (Or you have any specific interest?) Many thanks-----Bhooshan NPY (talk) 22:53, 2 August 2013 (UTC)

@Bhooshannpy:. Your proposal is exciting. I see from your edit history that you have a lot of knowledge about India. I am interested in India and have read about the country and its history, but there is so much I don't know or understand. Why don't you propose an article about something in India and we'll see if we can work well together. Thank you, SchreiberBike talk 23:16, 2 August 2013 (UTC)
Dear SchreiberBike, Recently I have been editing about one of the social Indian movements Namantar Andolan and its related article Namantar Shahid Smarak.Would you like to improve this two articles?? Many thanks-----Bhooshan NPY (talk) 07:03, 3 August 2013 (UTC)
@Bhooshannpy:, Starting small, I've begun some copy editing on Namantar Shahid Smarak; please tell me if you disagree with any of my edits. I'll do some more later. I will also ask some clarification questions on Talk:Namantar Shahid Smarak. Since we will be discussing the article, that seems like the most appropriate place to bring up questions. Thanks, SchreiberBike talk 17:10, 3 August 2013 (UTC)
Dear SchreiberBike, Sure, we will discuss if any question arises. Please keep watch on errors after my edits as well. I will keep this pages on my watch-list for now. Many thanks-----Bhooshan NPY (talk) 21:43, 3 August 2013 (UTC)

Dear SchreiberBike, Finally we have got the picture for Namantar Shahid Smarak. Please have look over article again ! Many thanks.-----Bhooshan NPY (talk) 19:37, 24 August 2013 (UTC)

@SchreiberBike:, I have added all the citation translations for Namantar Shahid Smarak. Could you please take a look?
Many Thanks.-----Bhooshan NPY (talk) 10:23, 28 August 2013 (UTC)
@SchreiberBike:, Can you please nominate our article for Wikipedia:Peer review?
Many thanks.-----Bhooshan NPY (talk) 23:17, 22 September 2013 (UTC)
@Bhooshannpy: It's done and the results can be viewed at Wikipedia:Peer review/Namantar Shahid Smarak/archive1. On the project page for peer review, they ask people who have requested review to do some reviewing in return. I'll look at doing that next. Thanks, SchreiberBike talk 00:24, 24 September 2013 (UTC)
Dear SchreiberBike, This is something new to me. I am curious to learn about this procedure. I look forward discussing if any question arises.
Many thanks for doing it.-----Bhooshan NPY (talk) 20:53, 24 September 2013 (UTC)
Dear SchreiberBike, Do you have any comments now on our article? Many thanks.-----Bhooshan NPY (talk) 09:09, 7 November 2013 (UTC)
@Bhooshannpy:, I just read over the article one more time and I can't see any problems with it. I think we've done good work together. I'm no expert though and I'm anxious to see what happens with the good article review. SchreiberBike talk 19:08, 7 November 2013 (UTC)
Dear SchreiberBike, I have recommended our article for GA status today. Can you please review it? Many thanks.-----Bhooshan NPY (talk) 19:53, 7 November 2013 (UTC)

Loan closet

Thank you for helping us with "loan closet". JaniceSelden (talk) 22:22, 6 August 2013 (UTC)Janice

@JaniceSelden: Thanks for the note. I went back and looked at the article and did a pretty big copy edit on it. I used to work in healthcare and had lots of contact with DME suppliers and some loan closets. Please feel very free to disagree with any of my changes. MOS:HEAD does say "Headings should not contain questions", and I tried to give it a more encyclopedic tone. Keep on editing. SchreiberBike talk 01:27, 7 August 2013 (UTC)
Thank you so much for all your help with loan closets. Much better! JaniceSelden (talk) 22:47, 7 August 2013 (UTC)

Hi

Hi! Thanks for the medal! I'm a big fan of your work, too! Rauzaruku (talk) 11:08, 25 August 2013 (UTC)

"WP:CENTURY"

Could you please be careful when doing hurried formatting, as here? I would rather have badly formatted article that are correct than correctly formatted ones where the dates are randomly off by a millennium. --dab (𒁳) 07:24, 26 August 2013 (UTC) Oh, I am sorry, I see you just took number vandalism in the article body at face value and perpetuated it by moving it to the infobox. That's still problematic, but not really a mistake no your part. Sorry. --dab (𒁳) 07:26, 26 August 2013 (UTC)

Thanks for the note. I am careful, but I know it's inevitable that I'll make some errors along the way. I appreciate your coming back with the second note understanding why I edited as I did. SchreiberBike talk 19:07, 26 August 2013 (UTC)

1st OG F-15

Just wanted to let you know (you may already) that your identification and correction of the caption for the image of the F-15 firing the AIM-7 was correct. Although the description of the original identifies the pilot as from the 71st FS, the squadron insignia on the intake and the yellow marking band at the top of the vertical stabilizer (which has a barely legible "27th" inscription) both identify the aircraft as a 27th FS bird. Nice attention to detail.--Reedmalloy (talk) 20:11, 12 September 2013 (UTC)

Thanks for the note - I'm glad I was right. The reason I noticed the text was because the F-15 was described as "... of 27st FS, 1st OG" and 27st is not a properly formatted ordinal. 27st was most likely an error for 21st or 27th and from the context of the article, it was clear that it was 27th. I wasn't aware of the markings on the plane. Keep up the good work. SchreiberBike talk 00:49, 13 September 2013 (UTC)

A barnstar for you!

  The Tireless Contributor Barnstar
Hi SchreiberBike, thanks for the info. I'm a bit of a newbie at this and was not aware of that. Anyway, the Vicente Lim article is still a work in progress, which much left to be added and finalized. Hopefully I get to finish it soon

Generalvicentelim Generalvicentelim (talk) 04:51, 18 October 2013 (UTC)

Thanks for the note and the star. There's about a million rules in Wikipedia and no one can know them all. I had noticed that you hadn't done any new work since I sent you that message and I was afraid I had scared you away. I'm glad to know you weren't and that you've got a good attitude. Keep up the good work. SchreiberBike talk 05:01, 18 October 2013 (UTC)

India's GDP per capita...

I had not noticed this inconsistency in IMF's database prior to reverting your edit. My suggestion is that we keep the old figure ($1,491) since all other values cited in the article are from India's specific country table and not from the country comparison table you referred to. My reason for this is purely for consistency sake so as to not confuse readers. Just my two cents. DonitzLiebt (talk) 06:04, 24 October 2013 (UTC)

Thanks for your note. What you say makes sense. Is there a way to tell what the ranking should be? SchreiberBike talk 06:12, 24 October 2013 (UTC)
Good question. Maybe we should leave this be until the IMF sorts out its data inconsistencies. DonitzLiebt (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 18:45, 25 October 2013 (UTC)
OK with me. Because I'm curious, I also tried downloading the data file at IMF World Economic Outlook Database, October 2013 and sorted by GDP per capita. If I remove "Hong Kong SAR" as not a country, India comes out as 141st. I'm no economist so I don't know if that's a valid approach. For now, I'll go ahead and and change the 141th to 141st so that it doesn't come up on my list of problem pages. Thanks, SchreiberBike talk 19:59, 25 October 2013 (UTC)

I nearly reverted you!

Re: your recent edit to Boyd McDonald - there's a typo - "sssociate". Philip Trueman (talk) 04:32, 26 October 2013 (UTC)

My first! Very kind of you. --Cstevencampbell (talk) 21:28, 26 October 2013 (UTC)

Thanks a lot

I gave you a heap of work with Skjærgårdsskolen, thank you so very much for taking it on. I will try to better my language and will reread your corrections, try to learn and avoid being simply sloppy. Parision work was a misspelling of parish work. Again thank you. --  Dyveldi    16:29, 27 October 2013 (UTC)

It's great to hear from you. I had fun trying to figure out what was what in that interesting article. I used the original and a Google Translate version of the Norwegian Wikipedia article at no:Skjærgårdsskolen. Would it be OK if I ask you some more questions on the article's talk page? There were still many questions I had about the article. Thanks, SchreiberBike talk 17:11, 27 October 2013 (UTC)

Carmen Busquets

Hi SchreiberBike. Could you review my suggested changes to the introduction of the Carmen Busquets article? Please see the Talk Page. Thanks Vivj2012 (talk) 18:13, 28 October 2013 (UTC)

Thank you for your note. I appreciate your upfront statement of your relationship with Bell Pottinger Private and your clients. I will take the time to review the sources in your proposed changes to Carmen Busquets and edit the article accordingly. SchreiberBike talk 18:28, 28 October 2013 (UTC)
Another editor has already added the text you proposed. I did some pretty extensive copy editing, mostly to adhere to WP:MOS and also remove some language that struck me as WP:PEACOCK and to clarify where it said she was a co-founder of Net-a-Porter. Some articles did describe her as a co-founder, but the more reliable articles made it clear that Net-a-Porter existed before she joined the board or became an investor. I also note that you wrote the first version of the article yourself. I don't know the ins and outs of Wikipedia:Conflict of interest, but I think your approach of adding material to the talk page as a proposal is better than editing the page yourself. Let me know if you have any thoughts. SchreiberBike talk 23:36, 28 October 2013 (UTC)

Another one of the good guys!

I thought I'd take a look at your user page out of interest. Good do see that there are a few editors who don't work on Wikipedia in order to posture about their talents and credentials. Liking Wikipedia and wanting to make it better are the ultimate objectives!   --Iryna Harpy (talk) 06:06, 30 October 2013 (UTC)

Thank you. Keep up the good work. SchreiberBike talk 06:14, 30 October 2013 (UTC)

Frank Richardson

Thank you for reading my article. I have not submitted this article at the time of writing. I am relatively new to Wikipedia and I understand you have read my document and made some changes. I wish to disagree with the suggestions. 1. The word Constables in this context need to have a capital C. It refers to the rank in the police force, as does Sergeant. These are always capitalized when referred to in an isolation. 2. Chief Constable also requires capitals on the first letter. This does refer to the rank, as before, but Chief Constable is a very high rank and the capitals reflect this. You would not, for instance, call Montgomery a field marshall but a Field Marshall. 3. I have been told by a previous reviewer not to write 6th in my article, but 6. Ordinals are not required-I suppose.

Several Wiki's are reviewing Frank Richardson as I write it, and alterations/suggestions have resulted. This helps me. I appreciate this but any changes have to be correct. TimothyWF (talk) 17:42, 31 October 2013 (UTC)

Thanks for your note. I assume you are talking about the article at Frank Richardson (policeman). That article was in the encyclopedia earlier today when I edited it, and based on this edit, it has been since early August, so I'm not sure what you mean by it not being submitted yet.
Capitalization in Wikipedia is described at Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Capital letters. The Wikipedia:Manual of Style is the style guide for articles in the encyclopedia and it has many sub-parts (there are a lot of rules and it's hard to know them all). The MoS says "most capitalization is for proper names or for acronyms", so the job titles you mentioned above would not be capitalized. Importance of a position is not the basis for capitalization, so indeed we would call Montgomery a field marshal, not a Field Marshal. If the title is being used as part of a name, it would be capitalized as in Field Marshal Montgomery though, just as we would refer to the lowest rank soldier as Private Jones.
If an earlier reviewer suggested "6 Century" instead of "6th century", I think they were wrong. The instructions on how to refer to centuries are at WP:CENTURY and distributed in other parts of the MoS.
The article is looking good and seems to be a real contribution to the encyclopedia. I'd be happy to provide further help if you'd like. SchreiberBike talk 18:11, 31 October 2013 (UTC)
Article for Creation, Frank Richardson (policeman)
Hello SchreiberBike, Thank you for your reply, I acknowledge your correct comments and help. I would like to take you up on your kind offer to provide further help, if I may. I have added some photographs yesterday and today and the results in 'my edit' page do not appear to be too correct to me. I suspect I have made an elementary error somewhere. Could I ask you to look at my Read page Gallery and add any comments ? Subject to your comments/alterations I would like to Submit this article for creation for Review, but I have suddenly realized I haven't got a SUBMIT button to press for the Article for Creation which I had on my previous article. Am I missing something, apart from a visual block, that is ?
TimothyWF (talk) 17:18, 2 November 2013 (UTC)
Hi @TimothyWF:, Working on Wikipedia is complicated, but most of the people are friendly and willing to help. I think I've got the gallery in Frank Richardson (policeman) looking right. It's showing the four pictures now. The main difference between what you had and what I came up with is that in a gallery, the brackets ("[[" and "]]") aren't required.
Your work on the article is already in the regular part of Wikipedia and has been for a couple of months. After articles are part of the encyclopedia, anyone can edit them and many people continue to make them better. I'll take another look at the article soon and try to do some copy editing. If I have any questions or suggestions about the article, I'll bring them up at Talk:Frank Richardson (policeman), but feel free to ask me any questions here. Keep up the good work. SchreiberBike talk 18:27, 2 November 2013 (UTC)
Hello SchreiberBike, I can't get over how quickly you reply !! Anyhow, thank you for you comments and information. I had no idea the Article for Creation was in fact created as I haven't submitted it yet but obviously it had and I am delighted. It probably explains why I was getting comments and alterations as I progressed writing the article which I hadn't had on a previous one. I am going to add the two sons Ernest Frank Richardson and Alfred Herbert Richardson into and at the end as links. You are quite correct over Miss Peto, it is Geogiana. Very grateful for you help, and many thanks.
it has been a great confidence booster to me.
TimothyWF (talk) 19:54, 2 November 2013 (UTC)
@TimothyWF:, I'm going through the article little by little and doing some copy editing. I'm changing things so they read better to my ear. I've also taken out or summarized some things which don't seem to me to be important enough to be in the article. You are completely free to disagree with me on any changes I make. I also worry that I'm using American English phrases which sound natural to me for an article which very much should use British English. Do keep on editing the article yourself too. Thanks, SchreiberBike talk 18:31, 5 November 2013 (UTC)

Hi

Thanks. I would just say that I've copied the basis of an article from "Swimming at the 2011 Pan American Games" series, believing that was all right with the grammar, since my English is not perfect. Sorry for any inconvenience. Rauzaruku (talk) 22:37, 13 November 2013 (UTC)

@Rauzaruku: Both the English language and Wikipedia rules are very difficult to learn. Keep up the good work. SchreiberBike talk 03:44, 14 November 2013 (UTC)

I have decided to put on a mini-contest within the November 2013 monthly disambiguation contest, on Saturday, November 23 (UTC). I will personally give a $20 Amazon.com gift card to the disambiguator who fixes the most links on that server-day (see the project page for details on scoring points). Since we are not geared up to do an automated count for that day, at 00:00, 23 November 2013 (UTC) (which is 7:00 PM on November 22, EST), I'll take a screenshot of the project page leaderboard. I will presume that anyone who is not already listed on the leaderboard has precisely nine edits. At 01:00, 24 November 2013 (UTC) (8:00 PM on November 23, EST), I'll take a screenshot of the leaderboard at that time (the extra hour is to give the board time to update), and I will determine from that who our winner is. I will credit links fixed by turning a WP:DABCONCEPT page into an article, but you'll have to let me know me that you did so. Here's to a fun contest. Note that according to the Daily Disambig, we currently have under 256,000 disambiguation links to be fixed. If everyone in the disambiguation link fixers category were to fix 500 links, we would have them all done - so aim high! Cheers! bd2412 T 02:30, 18 November 2013 (UTC)

for your work on Convergence and other disambiguation pages —PC-XT+ 01:40, 7 December 2013 (UTC)

Thank you for the recognition. I remember the PC-XT well. I once worked on a project on one for so long, staring into that green screen, that my vision had an orange halo until I went to sleep. Keep up the good work.SchreiberBike talk 02:01, 7 December 2013 (UTC)
Ah, the old monochromes and their halos... I mostly worked with Color Graphics Adapters, which allowed me to use either a monochrome or a CRT color monitor, or even both (showing the same screen differently.) Then, there was the Hercules Graphics Card, which gave monochromes some interesting properties instead of colors, like bold, underline and strike-through, with better resolution. Some programs were actually made to remind people to take a break to avoid halos and the like, though I mostly found them too annoying to use, myself. Thanks for recognizing my name. I'm glad to recognize your well-done edits. Have a good day! —PC-XT+ 07:58, 7 December 2013 (UTC)

ENGVAR on Syrian Army

I cannot remember which version (English or American) this page was originally on, but if you're going to change 'Defense' to 'Defence' throughout, you also need to fix 'organized' etc. Cheers and Happy New Year, Buckshot06 (talk) 06:52, 16 January 2014 (UTC)

Thanks and happy New Year to you too. When I came to the page, I noticed a mix of British and American spellings and there was no template indicating that a choice had already been made. I didn't do an exhaustive search, but it seemed like more were British, so I standardized on that. I don't usually look for the "-ized" words, first because Oxford spelling allows them, and second my spell checker doesn't flag them as errors. I'm not a very strong speller myself, so I'm dependent on the software.
Since your note came, I've looked for other Syria articles (Ministry of Defense (Syria), Syrian Air Defense Force and Syrian Scientific Studies and Research Center) and American spelling seems to be the norm. I will revert myself. Let me know if you have any other thoughts. SchreiberBike talk 07:49, 16 January 2014 (UTC)
Just that we need to crack on and expand the Syrian articles, but that's dependent on interest!! Warm regards, and thanks for your additions to the encyclopedia. Buckshot06 (talk) 19:58, 16 January 2014 (UTC)

--Gerda Arendt (talk) 08:38, 19 January 2014 (UTC)

Thank you so much for your kind words. As I've been going through the BWV articles, I've seen strong well written articles and when I've checked page histories, you have been the primary editor on every one. It's an accomplishment to be proud of. I'm largely tone deaf and have little appreciation for music, but I've enjoyed learning a bit about Bach and his music along the way. Keep up the good work. SchreiberBike talk 02:22, 20 January 2014 (UTC)
I would like to add that if you disagree with any of the changes I'm making in the Bach articles, feel free to change things, or let me know and we can discuss them. Thanks again. SchreiberBike talk 06:17, 20 January 2014 (UTC)
To the first: thank you (blushing). To the second: that's what I did. Nothing so far that I had to discuss, I am learning! - I have a Magnificat on my to-do-list, but was in the mood to write Sorrow, thanks also for cheering me up ;) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 07:53, 20 January 2014 (UTC)
  • I fixed one translation. Now, going for consistency, we have two minor questions:
  • Description of the choir
If only a link to SATB it needs explanation - the infobox has (should have) that, in prose we need to add it. A different solution might be to link to the section in the Bach cantata article.
  • "German language" for the Alberta site, - that seems not precise as it's a US site, and not needed because where I use it I add "text", - and what language should the text be if not German?
  • Magnificat. We sang one yesterday! One good reason for italics is that all foreign terms should be italic, per MoS. We (consistently) make an exception for songs in foreign languages because to have quotation and Italic seems overkill. I was taught that we don't use italics for Mass, Symphony, and wonder if Magnificat hasn't become one of these cases, - a common term of the English language. I'm never sure about Requiem. There's a plural. What do you think? --Gerda Arendt (talk) 10:30, 21 January 2014 (UTC)
  • Magnificat started, --Gerda Arendt (talk) 22:13, 21 January 2014 (UTC)
Hello, I was thinking the "(in German)" was appropriate for the links to University of Alberta like this one for BWV 89 because in addition to the text of the cantata being in German, the text at the bottom of the page is in German. For example, Anlass instead of "occasion", Entstehungszeit instead of "first performed", Oktober instead of "October", Diskussion instead of "discussion", etc.
Sing well and write well, SchreiberBike talk 23:50, 21 January 2014 (UTC)
Thanks for explaining (I think I never went to the bottom of the page), and for placing sing first;) (like in my own infobox), --Gerda Arendt (talk) 00:01, 22 January 2014 (UTC)
Thank you for taking care of that. Do you have any thoughts about my question at Talk:Entfernet euch, ihr heitern Sterne, BWV Anh 9#Spacing between "BWV Anh" and number?SchreiberBike talk 18:13, 27 January 2014 (UTC)
That was good! (I said so in an edit summary, I think.) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 18:32, 27 January 2014 (UTC)

Amtek Industries

Your PROD was removed at the eleventh hour by an IP, and I started to do the research to file an AfD, but I found enough to convince me to delete it WP:CSD#G3 blatant hoax. Chunks, including figures, were copied from Tata Group and Strabag. I did consider whether a worthy article had been vandalised but no, those problems were there in the version from the first author. The company exists, it may even be notable, but as far as that article goes it is a case of WP:TNT. Thanks for spotting it! JohnCD (talk) 17:58, 19 January 2014 (UTC)

Thanks for taking the extra effort to figure this one out and take care of it. I get excited when my hoax detector goes off. Keep up the good work. SchreiberBike talk 02:31, 20 January 2014 (UTC)

Innovative system

I have had to decline your PROD on this article, because it has already been dePRODded (by DGG on 18 July 2011), so cannot be PRODded again. Consider AfD. Regards, JohnCD (talk) 20:38, 21 January 2014 (UTC)

Thanks for the note. Off to WP:AFD I go. SchreiberBike talk 23:52, 21 January 2014 (UTC)

Edits made to the Brymo article.

Thanks for removing the numerous spelling and grammar errors from the Brymo article. However, I want to rollback your edit in order to rollback the whole "Merchants, Dealers & Slaves - 2013" section. The section reads well but it was written in a promotional tone. Editors need to keep in mind that Wikipedia should not be use as a tool to promote artists, musicians, and bands. I contacted the editor who added the section; I specifically told the editor that the section needs to be rewritten. While I'm awaiting the editor's response, I will delete the section if I don't get a response from him/her as soon as possible. versace1608 (talk) 21:37, 5 February 2014 (UTC)

If you think that's the best approach, I'll follow your lead. I'll check it over again in a day or two. Thanks, SchreiberBike talk 00:05, 6 February 2014 (UTC)

Hindu Kush (Kunar)

SchreiberBike, I just got your message. My English is not good. That's why I make mistakes. I need time to understand what the policy covers of Wiki. I suppose your offer and thank you very much. Yours Tabnak (talk) 20:41, 17 February 2014 (UTC)

Hello @Tabnak:, thanks for your note. I happened to run into a bunch of the pages you created because of a typo "1th" that was copied to several pages. The articles seem to be about mountains which are part of the Hindu Kush range, but they also seem to be articles about the word Kush. As a reader, I found it hard to tell why all the material about the word was in articles about the mountains. I deleted some things which didn't seem to relate to the mountains. Wikipedia is a complicated place, and must be especially complicated if English is not your first language. I'd be happy to work with you to make some of those articles better. Namantar Shahid Smarak GA Review

Hi there. Did you see my questions at the review page? I was actually writing them at the same time as you were editing the page, so maybe you missed them. I would appreciate any responses. (You can just respond there.) Thanks! -hugeTim (talk) 23:21, 16 March 2014 (UTC)

Thank you very much for the corrections, my english is not bad but not good as yours! Just one thing: isn't it it unasthetic to repeat surgery three times in a sentence? --Carlomartini86(Knock-Knock) 08:49, 3 April 2014 (UTC)

Hi @Carlomartini86: Thanks for your note above and the work you're doing creating articles. You are right that using a word like surgery three times in quick succession is not good writing, though they were each in separate sentences. I saw the phrase "under the knife" which seemed to me to be a cliché and euphemism and changed it to the more meaningful word surgery. Later today, I'll take another look at the article and see if I can clean that up. Keep up the good work and let me know if I can help with anything. SchreiberBike talk 15:22, 3 April 2014 (UTC)
Hi, thanks a lot, you're really kind. I'm creating some new articles, translating what I'm doing in it.wiki. I hope my english won't create too much problems! --Carlomartini86(Knock-Knock) 16:52, 3 April 2014 (UTC)

Need help

Hi bro. I'm expecting some help from you. There's an edit warring going on by an user User:Shivamsetu on pages of Patna and Bihar. Earlier it was written Bihar is a north indian state but he changed it to east. I've some reliable source (like news clips from india's trusted media group like The hindu, India today, TOI for instance see [1], [2], [3], [4], [5], [6], [7], Thackeray trains guns at north Indian students in Pune/1/8849.html ) which openely says Bihar is a north indian state and also an Indian goverment site (Cultural zones of India) which puts Bihar in both the categories ie, North Central Indian Cultural Zone ([8]) and East Indian Cultural Zone ([9]) (this is the only source on which a wikipedia page North India is created). And that guy also has some proofs to put Bihar in east india (sources like same media group and bihar goverment sites and etc which says bihar an eastern indian state). So bro, i wanna say that isn't it possible to put and show Bihar as an eastern as well as northern Indian state likewise Indian goverment categorized it into these two groups?? I think it is possible because i've reliable source of information as reference for my claim and he also have so we both can put our points on wikipedia with our reference. And also, he always undo my edits when i put my claim, even i had a discussion with him but he seems to me like an arrogant and thinks that he's self sophisticated and self centred and like just he own these pages and only he could make edits and only his sources are reliable. Currently he's got that page blocked from editing with the help of some other users. So please you can do something about that? And also it feels to me and other peoples like denying our right to edit on wikipedia even when we've reliable source of information as to put as reference. And moreover that user looks to me an east freak, everywhere just putting east and east and east. 70.39.185.209 (talk) 08:35, 16 April 2014 (UTC)

Hello, I read your note above. I would suggest bringing this up at Talk:Patna or Talk:Bihar; the talk page of an article is the place to start a discussion about the article. I do note that the editor you mention above does not seem to have made repeated changes from north to east in either article recently. Since you do not have a user name, I can not tell which edits there are yours. I also note that Bihar is included in the East India region, and that in the North India article, it is described as being in that region by some standards but not by others. My understanding from that is that the consensus on Wikipedia differs from your view. I hope this is helpful for you. SchreiberBike talk 15:58, 16 April 2014 (UTC)

Slash

Hi, I notice that you change <br> tags into <br/> tags. What is the deeper thought behind that? Just trying to learn.NED33 _/) talk 19:24, 16 April 2014 (UTC)

Hi @NED33:, Thanks for your note. I use this syntax highlighter which is available under Preferences/Gagets/Editing. I don't know how many other people use it, but I find it quite helpful and I suspect more people would use it if they knew about it.
One particularity of the highlighter is that it differentiates between a <br> and a <br/>, as it says in the documentation "To maximize performance, the highlighter is not forgiving of sloppy syntax. For example, make sure that if you start a <td> tag you end it with </td>, and use <br/> instead of <br>."
For the benefit of people who use the text highlighter it makes sense to change the <br>s to <br/>s. Thanks for asking so nicely and keep up the good work, SchreiberBike talk 19:35, 16 April 2014 (UTC)
Thanks, I understand and I try to better my coding on this.NED33 _/) talk 19:50, 16 April 2014 (UTC)

HTML br-tags

Hi there, SchreiberBike, re this edit, please see the edit summary in my correction per HTML school. It's just a quibble, but you might like to know. By the way, good job, your replacing "degrees Kelvin" with "kelvins". Cheers - DVdm (talk) 21:49, 26 April 2014 (UTC)

Thanks for the note, I didn't know that and will change my practice. Keep up the good work. SchreiberBike talk 21:56, 26 April 2014 (UTC)
Ha, I just noticed the section #Slash here above. See W3Schools:
The <br> tag inserts a single line break.
The <br> tag is an empty tag which means that it has no end tag.
In HTML, the <br> tag has no end tag.
In XHTML, the <br> tag must be properly closed, like this: <br />.
So I went back and removed the slashes altogether: [10]. Cheers and ditto! - DVdm (talk) 22:00, 26 April 2014 (UTC)
Note - I left a message on the this syntax highlighter talk page. - DVdm (talk) 22:16, 26 April 2014 (UTC)

May 2014 disambig contest: let's do it again!

Greetings fellow disambiguator! Remember back in February when we made history by clearing the board for the first time ever, for the monthly disambiguation contest? Let's do it again in May! I personally will be aiming to lead the board next month, but for anyone who thinks they can put in a better effort, I will give a $10 Amazon gift card to any editor who scores more disambiguation points in May. Also, I will be setting up a one-day contest later in the month, and will try to set up more prizes and other ways to make this a fun and productive month. Cheers! bd2412 T 18:50, 28 April 2014 (UTC)

Hi,

Point taken about photo credit italics. I looked it up and you were right.

However you removed all of the photo credits (for two dozen pictures) which wasn't necessary. So I reverted your edit and then I manually removed all of the italics, plus manually removing italics from that inline quote as well.

In the future, please leave a note in the talk page (or on my user page). If you are right about WP policy, then (usually, unless I am really busy) I will correct it in a timely manner.

Have a nice day!

Hi Cliffswallow-vaulting, Thanks for your note. I removed the photo credits based on the description of how to handle image author credits at WP:CREDITS. Based on Wikipedia's Manual of Style as described there, does what I did make sense to you? Love your username by the way, it paints great pictures. SchreiberBike talk 02:36, 3 May 2014 (UTC)
I'm glad you like my username! :-) Thanks for saying that!
Ah, I see what you mean-- OK I will take those credits out. It's late now (in my corner of the world) but I will get it done very soon.
Cliffswallow-vaulting (talk) 08:23, 3 May 2014 (UTC)
Done! All removed, except for the two paintings, which had creators who were notable so I Wikilinked them as per WP:CREDITS.
Cliffswallow-vaulting (talk) 00:42, 4 May 2014 (UTC)
Thanks for following up with that and I'm glad my explanation made sense. Keep up the good work. SchreiberBike talk 04:22, 4 May 2014 (UTC)

Re: Skeptical Inquirer: Capitalization of a season

I'm well aware of WP:SEASON, and I often cite it quite often in my edits. However, I'm pretty sure that when it's used as the cover date of a periodical, it's an exception to that guideline, don't you think? Nightscream (talk) 23:58, 12 May 2014 (UTC)

I haven't run into that, but if you think so, fine. SchreiberBike talk 03:12, 13 May 2014 (UTC)
