Burns
editWell I haven't been able to find anything directly about Burns' voice, so you'll have to use the Reiss source for now. There is alot of sources which quote Shearer as saying Burns is his favourite character [1] and this talks about the effects of the voice on his throat [2]. I recall reading an interview with him a while back, in which he said the only voice he based on anyone was Skinner, but I can't remember for sure. I'll keep looking, but this is all I've got for now. Gran2 15:06, 1 May 2008 (UTC)
- I just read The Simpsons Ride, great job on that. Anyway, someone added Christopher Lloyd's cameo to the guest stars list, so I was thinking of keeping it but expanding to a "guest stars in other media" section or something. I don't remember any of the adverts having guest stars, but I think a few of the video games did. Thoughts? Gran2 08:30, 3 May 2008 (UTC)
Request for Review
editYou're extremely active on the FLC page, and I was wondering if you'd be willing to leave a few comments about List of Atlantic Coast Conference football champions, which is currently a featured list candidate. I'm always glad to get as many opinions as possible, especially from people who aren't as familiar with college football. Thanks for your time. JKBrooks85 (talk) 06:05, 2 May 2008 (UTC)
Overhaul of FL criteria
editI've re-started the process here and am notifying the four candidates for director as well as advertising at FLC talk and FAC talk. Your input would be valued. Tony (talk) 05:19, 3 May 2008 (UTC)
- Re your scrubbed-out comment at the overhaul page: yes, I find overlinking a significant problem in the lists I've reviewed. And because lists need to be strategically nested in relation to other articles, it's particularly important not to dilute the high-value links. Simple years, the names of anglophone countries, common words and repeated links are particular problems. That's why I'm just a little concerned at the new new Criterion 2, which is explicitly about links. It does say "appropriate"; but what do you think? Tony (talk) 06:33, 4 May 2008 (UTC)
Orphaned non-free media (Image:Springfield's state's flag.jpg)
editThanks for uploading Image:Springfield's state's flag.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 12:26, 4 May 2008 (UTC)

Breaking date links etc
editHi,
I edited the dates because most of them were broken. Others were camouflaged as simple year links that nobody ever clicks on. The broken date thing is complicated to explain but it is all at wp:mosnum. I am sure others will explain. Hope that helps. Lightmouse (talk) 01:45, 9 May 2008 (UTC)

editCongratulations! I hope everything works out. Have you set any new policies? I hope you keep taxes low and keep us out of too many wars. It looks like User:Sephiroth BCR will not be catching you at WP:WBFLN any time soon. I hope I your new role does not impose on my experiment because I know you have expressed preferences for other methods. - I apologize about the notices. I still think you should keep an open mind on the experiment I am running. It has its advantages for you as an FLD. If you took part by analyzing and voting, it would help you to monitor lists needing review and it would help you guage preferences if you monitored the voting of others.--TonyTheTiger (t/c/bio/WP:CHICAGO/WP:LOTM) 15:10, 12 May 2008 (UTC)

editIn Seven Wonders of Canada, the the yellow wood-and-canvas canoe is mine, and it was in fact made in and photographed in Ely, Minnsota. Why do you want to hide that fact? If you do, why not show a Canadian-made canoe? Motorrad-67 (talk) 17:37, 11 May 2008 (UTC)
You should delete all the locations of canoes because none of them are specific. Right? Or, find a Canadian canoe if you don't want just this single canoe's location identified. Be consistent. Or, are you just anti-American? Motorrad-67 (talk) 17:37, 11 May 2008 (UTC)
Hey
editHi! Thanks for your note. I'm afraid I've been rather out of it (not to mention off wiki) in the last few days so I'm going to need a few days to catch up with the copious discussions that have been on-going. There are a number of FLCs on which I've commented extensively which are heading for a decision, I guess since I've been involved then I ought not take a leading role in closing those particular ones. In the meantime I'll spend some time on the criteria discussion and get back to you. I'll follow your lead in the mechanics of closure for a bit, if you don't mind, and try to provide a "overseer" role to those FLCs which I have yet to comment on and which could use some assistance. Feel 100% free to smack me down if I foul up and by all means email me or use my talk page to call me a fool... All the best, and well done on the FLD result, good to see your hard work hasn't gone un-noticed. Best, The Rambling Man (talk) 17:34, 11 May 2008 (UTC)
- Cool. Sounds like a good division of labour to me. I'll also be nom'ing FLs so we can do each other's dirty work. So, to the criteria....! The Rambling Man (talk) 17:44, 11 May 2008 (UTC)
- I couldn't think of two better candidates than Matthew and Dweller to deal with FLRC's. I assume either of us would still remain responsible for the ultimate promotion...? I'll do my best to do a few promotions where applicable so I get to grips with what I'm doing! The Rambling Man (talk) 19:40, 11 May 2008 (UTC)
- I don't really see why. They'd be "responsible" without any necessary requirement for said responsbility to be publicly affirmed. Since we would promote, they would be guardians, like Sandy for example, of the process. I think just making sure they're happy with the processes and to-be agreed criteria would be sufficient. The Rambling Man (talk) 19:47, 11 May 2008 (UTC)
- Matthew's off for at least another week, Dweller seems keen to help, let's wait until we get 2/2 and then announce it. The Rambling Man (talk) 19:52, 11 May 2008 (UTC)

May I ask why "Not Promoted" for this? There were 2 supports, and I'm pretty sure TRM's concerns were all addressed. « Milk's Favorite Cookie ( talk / contribs) 00:05, 15 May 2008 (UTC)
- I had the same question. The album had two supports and a "mild oppose" from The Rambling Man (talk · contribs), of which I fixed all of the suggestions. I left two reminders on Rambling Man's talk page, but he failed to respond. I guess I went over the limit of days on the Canidate list, but it would have been promoted with his support, right? So should I just re-nominate it? Thanks! Blackngold29 05:26, 15 May 2008 (UTC)

Guidlines!
editGuidlines make everything fun.. How would you like to impose these guidlines on the list of recurring characters?
1. 99% of all celebrity appearances are non-canon and should not be inlcuded in the recurring character article.
2. Characters should be referred to as what other characters call them, or what the writers/producers have said.
3. All characters appearing in cutaway jokes should not be included in the recurring articles. Any character who makes three appearances or more can be safely counted as a character.
4. All characters who are central characters in the storyline of a single episode but do not make anymore appearances should not be inlcuded in the recurring character article. (Examples: Jack Crowley, Dwight Diddlehopper, Julia)
5. All characters who are central characters in the storyline of two or more episodes should be included in the recurring character article.
6. Abandoned characters should be dropped. That is to say, characters from more than ten years/seasons ago shouldn't be included as recurring.- Yours truly, [ S ] υ ρ є r ı o r reply! 22:27, 19 May 2008 (UTC)

editHi there. I'm unsure of how this is going at the moment. Is the plan to hold another !vote, or is a simple announcement going to be made about me and Dweller? Presidents' Trophy
editWhich official website are you talking about when you say that they've led the league 17 times? You didn't provide a link. MrArticleOne (talk) 20:11, 20 May 2008 (UTC)
- I'm a little confused. My initial question was what official website you were talking about that you got the 18 figure from. You sent me a page at the team's website. However, the page from the team's website says they did finish 1st in 1933-34, but I assume this is talking about their finish within the Division, not the League (in 1934, they did finish 1st in the American Division). I can't make out what the left-most banner in that image says on it, and I have never been to their arena, so I am not sure what makes you think it says 1933-34. So, in short, I'm confused on two things: (1) why you think that left-most banner is from 1933-34, and (2) where you saw or derived that 18 figure. After doing a little research, I think what it probably says is actually 1932-33; that season, Detroit finished tied with Boston atop the league standings but Boston won the tiebreaker. Perhaps the league didn't recognize the tiebreaker for banner purposes? MrArticleOne (talk) 21:05, 20 May 2008 (UTC)
- I can't make out anything on the left-most banner in that image; it just gets all garbled. I'm hesitant to just write it off like that without more proof. It just seems really odd that an NHL team would make such a blatant error and that nobody would correct it, don't you think? MrArticleOne (talk) 21:34, 20 May 2008 (UTC)

editOver the weekend I promoted List of San Diego Chargers head coaches List of Vancouver Canucks players, List of German World War II jet aces and Highlander: The Series (season 1). They'd been FLCs for close to a month, with no opposes, and enough supports. TRM hadn't given any further feedback since his first comments, but I checked the articles closely and I think he'd consider that they were all addressed satisfactorily. Keeping them there for another 2 weeks until he returns I felt wasn't really a good idea. There's still 50 candidates! I also closed List of Marmalade Boy chapters at the nominee's request. Matthewedwards (talk · contribs · count · email) 08:32, 25 May 2008 (UTC)
- Re: Einstein's publications: No. There's still a few MOS issues regarding quote marks around chapters and titles, and I noticed that all the "blah blah of publication #142 above" in the notes column not being correct when sorted in any order than its natural state (they often end up being below). The nominator went away for the week on the 23rd though so they might not be addressed for a few more days, so it's up to you. I'm the only opposer so far. editHi. Could you explain exactly what I did wrong here [3]? Awbizkomeydownstar (talk) 03:54, 26 May 2008 (UTC)
- What part of that page does it violate? The Modern Language Association requires that one use brackets to indicate that a quotation has been altered. See this site. Just because you haven't seen something on Wikipedia doesn't mean it's wrong. (Granted, not every style guide requires brackets around a single letter, but I thought I should cover all my bases.)
- In any case, your version was definitely wrong. That quote was being introduced as an independent statement, which was operating outside the flow of the rest of the sentence. It had to begin with a capital letter, unless you were to alter the rest of the sentence to make it fit. (I ended up doing the latter.)
- I'm not trying to start a fight over this. I've just noticed that many Wikipedia editors have trouble integrating quotations into their prose. It wouldn't hurt to brush up on some of the basics. Awbizkomeydownstar (talk) 03:08, 27 May 2008 (UTC)

- My freind took the Image and gave me a copy of it, and that's not the reason I'd like to see it in the article. As I said before, It shows the Krusty head entrance close-up, and "Simpsonsride2" shows it far away, with walls in front of it. But, I'm not in any mood for accomplishment. Do what you think best fits the article then. Or, I could crop the Image and get rid of the two people in it.--Snowman Guy (talk) 23:27, 28 May 2008 (UTC)

I think the only individuals (going by the basis of who has an article, who doesn't) that we'll need, and are possible to get, are Okaley, Weinstein (and we could ask Bill for a more up to date one of each of them) and Jeff Martin from Simpsons writers1.jpg. FLC closings and junk
editFirst off good job so far as FLC director and stuff. I was wondering if you could do something to help everyone out. Lately when you've closed FLCs, you've done a bunch at a time (the one you just did was 12 I believe). That's great, but do you think you could split them up into more then one edit, so that you're not forced to say "2 more" in the edit summaries? I imagine there's others such as myself that watch the edits on the FLC pages to see which ones passed and failed, mainly by yours or Rambling Man's edit summaries, so "2 more" isn't really helpful. Anyways, just wanted to bring that up. Great job so far. Drewcifer (talk) 05:00, 30 May 2008 (UTC)
- My suggestion is to close the ones you promote in one edit and the ones you archive in another edit. It was easier for me to split them up. By the way, I just closed 2006 Winter Olympics medal count per your message at my talk page.--Crzycheetah 05:19, 30 May 2008 (UTC)
New FLRC instructions?
editHi Scorpion. I've taken the bull by the horns. Please criticise. Wikipedia talk:Featured list removal candidates. PS why no ToC on that talk page? TONY (talk) 06:03, 1 June 2008 (UTC)
Scorpion, would you please mind reinstating the Detroit Red Wings FLC? I was in the middle of revaming the table – and incase you didn’t notice, there was an {{inuse}} template. I was almost done, just receiving Matthew’s comments 2 days ago. Furthermore, the FLC instructions clearly state:
“ | Candidates that are not promoted after 10 days will be moved from the list to the failed log unless objections are being actively addressed. In this case, the directors may grant additional time to determine whether a candidate can be promoted. | ” |
Thanks, « Milk's Favorite Cøøkie 14:13, 1 June 2008 (UTC)
- I'm not complaining - I apologize if I do sound that way. I had the {{inuse}} on the article, was actively editing it, and assumed you would know this and would not close the FLC. Would you mind simply reinstating the FLC? It's not that I mind your decision, its just that I didn't have enough time to address the remaining concerns. « Milk's Favorite Cøøkie 15:28, 1 June 2008 (UTC)
Orphaned non-free media (Image:Swartzwelder.jpg)
editThanks for uploading Image:Swartzwelder.jpg.
Thank you. BJBot (talk) 08:12, 2 June 2008 (UTC)

FLC idea
editHey Scorpion. Thanks for your note. Yeah, no reason why not. I did a Good Article drive a while ago and in a month they reduced their 150-odd review backlog to next-to-nothing, all with the temptation of the odd barnstar etc. Got to remember we're still striving for the "best of Wikipedia" mind you so sprinting for featured success may be a little inappropriate, but as long as the finished products meet the criteria and either of us are happy then I guess it's a win-win scenario. So... how do you promote it and how do you bound the contest? The Rambling Man (talk) 16:34, 10 June 2008 (UTC)

Regarding the contest, I've been thinking that if the reasoning behind it is to garner some extra attention to WP:FL, then perhaps you should hold off for a couple of week or so. If you notified the WP:Village Pump, the WP:Signpost, and a few other places, there'd be more people who haven't put forward a FL before who may be willing to enter. Right now the only entrants are the regular FL nominators, and that I think, won't draw much attention to the project. Just a thought. Lists
editHey dude. Hope you're ok. Just wanted to quickly chat out what our roles seem to be evolving into at FLC... Not really surprisingly, you're doing the majority of the closures and promotions etc. I think what would be best for me to do is to focus on the "backlog" lists and try to get them tidy, MOS-compliant etc. Obviously when either of us is "away" we need to cover the tasks completely but otherwise, is this a fair appraisal and are you okay with it? On another note, competition seems to be taking off nicely! The Rambling Man (talk) 10:11, 14 June 2008 (UTC)

editHi. Just curious, why did you close Wikipedia:Featured list candidates/List of tallest buildings in Denver before my comment could be addressed? Zagalejo^^^ 05:02, 16 June 2008 (UTC)

List of members of the Hockey Hall of Fame
editHeh, by time I got back to List of members of the Hockey Hall of Fame to fix my <ref>...</ref>
typos, I got caught in your Edit conflict. Ok, now I see the info on the 18 member committee info on Hockey Hall of Fame. But, it is buried in the text and listed in an "As of..." format, which will eventually be edited off as new members are added. It makes sense to me to have the actual electors for a given year right handy by that years inductees. Not sure if it belongs on the HHOF article or the List of members article or in some other spot. Ideas? — MrDolomite • Talk 21:20, 17 June 2008 (UTC)
- Re: your reply on my talk page. Gotcha, thx for the info. While I don't forsee the need for each inductee class to have its own article, I'll ruminate about other options for how to incorporate that info. — MrDolomite • Talk 21:41, 17 June 2008 (UTC)

The Itchy & Scratchy & Poochie Show
editHi. I took a look and pages 143 to 149 are used to analyse that specific episode. I don't know how useful it is though, but I could take a look later if you choose to write the stuff from Planet Simpson. --Maitch (talk) 06:21, 24 June 2008 (UTC)
- An analysis would be great. I'll see if I can find anything else, I mean, there's got to be something out there to source a cultural references section. Gran2 06:50, 24 June 2008 (UTC)
- I have added a "Themes" and a "Cultural References" section as well as I found some ratings information. The article needs to be looked over, so it flows better. So if either of you could do it. I could perhaps do some more work on it later.
