edit

Hi there! Thanks for your interest in article Kathmandu. Lets get down to the issues here

  • The article had been tagged "too long" since June 2011 (~7 months by now). The same tag suggested " splitting content into sub-articles and using this article for a summary". Initially (7 months ago), there weren't any separate articles based on sub-sections of the article. However, by now, most of the sub-segments of the article already have pages of their own. So, in order to improve the quality of article and make it more concise and readable, summarizing and removal of elaborate information is necessary.
  • Segments containing elaborate news features of certain non-major events (details of Jazz event) or endorsement (Gurkha beer) or some local bands are not a feature of any standard encyclopedia and certainly not of wikipedia, hence they were removed.
  • Regarding pictures, the article had a lot of pictures. However, many of the pictures were either not illustrating the text (why would you have a picture of a grocery store in a section dealing with cuisine?) or had more picture than necessary (eg Boudhanath) or could have been replaced by bette pictures (New Road is a better illustration of landmark for economy than a random picture of woolen garments). So, the pruning was done.
  • About the concerns pertaining to "...adding lots of information based on your own POV", specification would be of great help as I am unaware of what has been deemed as "POV" by you. Addition of pics of Singha Durbar or BICC in administration, pics of Yenya in festival, pics of Newar people in demographics, Shahid Gangalal hospital in healthcare, to me, do not seem like POV. Also, the text that has been added are referenced.
  • About removal of "panorama", a discussion is underway about possibilities for better replacement here. Till date, to the best of my knowledge, there has been no consensus in wikipedia stating that panorama picture can not be removed. Also, if one sees the discussion page, a discussion about removing at least one of the panorama pictures 4 months ago had been started by me. No one has responded to that call till date. Based on lack of any opposition or comment to the post, the panoramas were removed.

Besides these, if there are any other issues, do let me know. I am trying to push this article to featured status and any help from your side is welcome. I would continue to resume my edits as no reasons for the reversion has been specified, other than the ones that I have addressed to in this message. Thank you.--Eukesh (talk) 14:18, 7 January 2012 (UTC)Reply

First and second points are agreed upon, so lets start with third point-
  • To start with, panoramic picture is not an absolute necessity for an article. Look at Dhaka and Kolkata, two of the nearest cities to Kathmandu, which are featured articles without any panoramic pictures. Panoramic view is just a picture that illustrates, among others, most importantly landmarks of a city. Look at New York City and Rome as examples. There may or may not be a panoramic view in collage. Any city article serves as example for that. Every city is a concrete jungle, thats why you need to have good images to illustrate the landmarks. If one goes to Kolkata or Mumbai, which can be regarded as two among the list of the best cities in South Asia, one can find concrete jungle and slums where a number of Kathmandus can fit easily. Yet, one does not see those images in wikipedia article.
  • I do not remember deleting the HDI part. Also, my browser cannot find HDI in the reverted version of the article. Could you please specify the edit. If the part had been deleted, it can be restored.
  • About Newar, I take this as a serious allegation, even worse than the claims of vandalism made about the edits elsewhere. Here are the pictures of aspects of core Newar civilization that I deleted-
  1. two pictures of Bagmati,
  2. traditional Newar water spout,
  3. Kumari devi,
  4. Bouddhanath,
  5. view from Swayambhunath (which shows predominantly traditional Newa settlement),
  6. two Newa thankas,
  7. two pictures of Asa archive,
  8. mandap of Tihar,
  9. Bagmati river at Pashupatinath and
  10. Laxmi Narayan Temple,

13 in total. I am not counting other non-core centers which Newars attend to (such as the Buddhist monasteries, grocery store etc.). Here are the pictures that I have added-

  1. Durbar square in introduction
  2. Manjushri, illustrating the mythology
  3. Pratap Malla's inscription illustrating the history
  4. Newars in demographics (Newars are natives and also still have larger population compared to other ethnic groups according to census 2001)
  5. Replaced image of Bouddhanath
  6. Gunla in music
  7. Platter
  8. Yenya

8 in total. Besides, to the best of my knowledge, none of these images are unjustified. One can not replace the image of Manjushri, the founder with something else. Medieval era was all Newa (including the influence of Tibetan, Maithili and Bengali which have been mentioned in the text) . Besides, the inscription is the one with least amount of Prachalit script, the "so called" Newar script. Boudhanath was image pruning. Gunla is the longest continued festival of Kathmandu with music as the central theme. One can add picture of Jazzmandu or other musical festival in the section as well, but I can not see how a picture of US cultural envoy (who is not playing any instrument) illustrates the music of Kathmandu. The platter is a traditional platter of Kathmandu, one which among others, Kathmandu Metropolitan City, uses during its events (esp with foreign delegates). I think that a picture of momos needs to be added to this section, though. Yenya, as is mentioned, literally means festival of Kathmandu. I can not think of any other festival which represents Kathmandu more than that. A festival with Hindu, Buddhist and Kirat origins, representing the incorporation of Kathmandu into Modern Nepal, observed by the Head of the state and dignitaries.

  • Kathmandu has infact moved to become a hub of all Nepal and to a limited extent beyond. That aspect is well illustrated by BICC, Gangalal Cardio center, New Road etc which I have added to the article. More of this is yet to be added and edited (eg-new malls like city center, SAARC Office, SAARC Tb Center, ICIMOD etc among others). However, that can only happen if one can edit the article. I have barely started writing the history part (which was missing).
  • Also, "While I am aware that they resided in Kathmandu in the beginning,..." does not make sense. Ancestors of Newars were there in the beginning and Newars are still there in Kathmandu now, as is demonstrated by the census. The only difference is that other people are there in Kathmandu now as well. So, instead of deleting parts related to Newars (which is a POV), inclusion of Nepalese culture is needed, which can be done only if the random reverts cease to exist. One needs to have patience for that while another is editing (esp. when the other is not done editing). Also, please do not mix your feelings with the facts. Newar civilization is still endorsed by all the metropolitan, sub-metropolitan and municipalities of the valley as the major representative of culture of the valley. One cannot ignore this fact. Its as valid a fact as the existence of a modern, multicultural society of Kathmandu, aspects of which is yet to be added.
  • About tone of article, please specify (the precise edits), where there seems to be a POV.
  • About separate edits, all the edits have been made separately. The major bulk change, has in fact been, the reversion of the edits. Individual edits could have been reverted rather than in bulk. Also, you are free and welcome to edit the page.
  • Also, I was wondering, a major chunk of the article was deleted from the history portion of the article. A user has even mentioned that in the discussion page. You do not seem to notice that and you revert back my edits to the edition with blank history. I do not see you writing on the wall of the user who blanked the history or complaining about vandalism. Your edit skills in your edit history clearly shows that this is not your first account. Is there some personal problems with my edits? Btw, sock-puppetry is more heinous than POV. :)

Thank you.--Eukesh (talk) 08:49, 9 January 2012 (UTC)Reply

It would be great if you can include both pictures from like New Road, and the panorama as well! I agree with most of your clarification. Please go ahead and make your edits. I will not revert your edits but will notify you about what is confusing. Seaboy123 (talk) 18:09, 9 January 2012 (UTC)Reply

January 2012

edit

This edit is wrong on so many levels. First, it breaks WP:NPA: "Accusations about personal behavior that lack evidence." In short, I am neither pro-Barca nor pro-Real as I don't like either team. Sorry. Second, please see template:Infobox football club:

season — The last completed competitive league season the club completed.
position — The league and position to which season refers.

In short, 2010-2011 season not the current season. And finally, the edit goes against WP:NEUTRAL. It's not referenced and so should not be applied. Find a reference or you'll get blocked for edit warring. --Walter Görlitz (talk) 05:35, 19 January 2012 (UTC)Reply

Give those Wiki terms to someone else. I have been following your edits in a lot of articles, especially in Liga records, your edits are definitely biased for barcelona. The "football records in spain" has tons of wrong information. I am correcting little by little every day. If you disagree, take it to the talk page. If you engage in further edit reverts, I will report you.I agree about the season part. If you are neutral and are here to help, the football records in spain page is a mess. Correct it! If you try to revert my edits, you will certainly be in trouble.Seaboy123 (talk) 05:44, 19 January 2012 (UTC)Reply

About the statistics on the La liga page, don't remove perfectly fine data. You cna no just remove data with the sole reason that it is biased towards FC Barcelona, yes there is a lot of statistical records held by that club but they are part of the history of the league. There is nothing stoping you from ading more data to the statistics, but don't call it biased when the statistical entries are copied from the english league statistical page, that FC Barcelona is represented in many of the entries mearly because they happend to hold that particular record. If you want to you can ad more records, there are tons of records still to be added, for example:

Most consecutive home wins in a single season Most consecutive away wins in a single season Most consecutive league games without a win home Most consecutive league games without a win away Most consecutive league games without scoring home Most consecutive league games without conceding a goal home Most losses in a season home Most losses in a season away Most consecutive league games without a loss home in a single season Most consecutive league games without a loss away in a single season

You might not want to tag the talk pages of editors you're in conflict with as you've done here and here, particularly if they're established editors. --Walter Görlitz (talk) 01:32, 27 January 2012 (UTC)Reply
I agree but they are violating wiki policies by offending other editors. It is pretty clear from both editors history about their previous edits and their attacks on other editors. Especially CrashWheelX who was already on a block. However i wont tag them anymore. Unless they break the revert rule or engage in edit warring.Seaboy123 (talk) 01:39, 27 January 2012 (UTC)Reply

What is you problem

Why are you deleting sourced material? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 83.57.255.81 (talk) 22:41, 22 January 2012 (UTC)Reply

Most consecutive league games without conceding a goal away — Preceding unsigned comment added by 83.54.193.162 (talk) 17:05, 19 January 2012 (UTC)Reply

The claims made are not referenced, please give an exact reference where you can back your claim for most consecutive wins (1958-1960 ) one. For the consecutive home wins(May-February) you cannot count two seasons. If you engage in more vandalism, i will report to block your IP address permanently.Seaboy123 (talk) 22:44, 22 January 2012 (UTC)Reply

These edits are not vandalism, please reconsider your phrasing [1]. Adding protection template [2] is only appropriate for a protected page. Materialscientist (talk) 22:49, 22 January 2012 (UTC)Reply
Please tell me, what edits are then? Did you care to look at the page edit history! The article is just messed up with unregistered users from IP addresses all around the world. If this page is not protected, then anyone can change it anytime without taking anything to the talk page. Your job is to protect the page, look at why it should be protected rather than asking me to rephrase. Seaboy123 (talk)
The source is LFP, the organizing body of the league. They have a database that contain every single match ever played i la liga.
