Use of "Dr.", "Professor", etc.

edit

Should be left off articles. The article about the specific person, can mention their education and degrees. See wp:honorifics and wp:credential (same page, different section. As an example Theory of relativity by Albert Einstein physicist and William Worrall Mayo physician and founder of the Mayo Clinic (hospital) do not have "Dr." on their pages. wp:notability (people) is about accomplishments, not about letters after one's name. BTW: I did state why on my edit summary, giving the policy links. Cheers Jim1138 (talk) 19:09, 1 May 2017 (UTC)Reply

Use of script. Wikipedia:WikiProject India/Guide/Common mistakes mentions to not use Indic scripts in infoboxes as in the "| native_name = काशी हिन्दू विश्वविद्यालय" on Banaras Hindu University. I believe (you can read about it on the guide), that as there are so many different languages that the infobox can quickly become bloated. Leaving one out may alienate that group. The policy link is WP:INDICSCRIPT. You could add an invisible MOS:COMMENT in place of the script something like <!-- DO NOT ADD INDIC SCRIPT PER [[WP:INDICSCRIPT]] --> (leave out the nowiki stuff). "Invisible comments" are not visible except while editing. Cheers Jim1138 (talk) 19:33, 1 May 2017 (UTC)Reply

Be BOLD!

edit

On Raebareli, I changed the section title to "Notable people" which seems to be the norm. See WP:ListFormat. Also, wp:listpeople may be of use. I presume the people who moved are born there? Otherwise, they probably should be removed from the list.
Be wp:BOLD! Please do check that what your are doing is not outlandish or way out of wp:policy and wp:MOS guidelines.
It's best not to leave comments about improvements on the articles themselves. If you have an issue with something in a page that you are not too comfortable with editing, add wp:cleanup tags and start a new section/thread on the corresponding talk page. See [[[wp:talk page guidelines]]. On little viewed pages or pages that are not well written, you may find few responses. In that case, be BOLD! Another policy on this is wp:BOLD, revert, discuss cycle (BRD).
You can test an edit by using wp:Show preview or copy the section to your sandbox (link at top of any page while you are logged in or Use:Seomelono/Sandbox)

Indic script

edit

Regarding the use of Indic script - काशी हिन्दू विश्वविद्यालय in the infobox of Banaras Hindu University. If this use would alienate other language speakers, then it probably should be removed. BTW: I presume this: काशी हिन्दू विश्वविद्यालय to be Devanagari or is it Sanskrit? - I'm ignorant... The policy is stated on WP:INDICSCRIPT. I'll leave the interpretation up to you. I would recommend bringing article toward policy standards. Otherwise, they are often looked upon as unreliable junk. If interested, please join Wikipedia:WikiProject India Cheers Jim1138 (talk) 00:32, 3 May 2017 (UTC)Reply

Jim1138 Hi, can you please look at the Banaras Hindu University page's edits by me and the revisions done by Muhandes, who also has sent me a message in the following section on this page. Seomelono (talk) 09:33, 18 November 2017 (UTC)Reply

Hi Seomelono, this edit, the external links were not functional. I am not sure what the problem is. This url: [http://internet.bhu.ac.in/malviya.php has "internet." in it. If I use http://bhu.ac.in/malviya.php I get a working page.
Avoid putting a direct link, such as with your first link: [http://internet.bhu.ac.in/malviya.php Malaviya Bhavan] That is bad practice. Use a wp:citation that supports the content. Avoid wp:overlinking. Hope this helps. Cheers Jim1138 (talk) 18:02, 18 November 2017 (UTC)Reply
Or simply ask me what the problem is. I would have directed you to the relevant policy which prohibits external links in the body of the article. --Muhandes (talk) 21:43, 18 November 2017 (UTC)Reply

Hello, I'm Muhandes. I wanted to let you know that one or more external links you added to Faculty of Social Sciences, Banaras Hindu University have been removed because they seemed to be inappropriate for an encyclopedia. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page, or take a look at our guidelines about links. Thank you. Detective Anna moved to draftspace

edit

An article you recently created, Detective Anna, is not suitable as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. Hi! Materialscientist Sorry for that edit. I was just trying to edit a small section, but my mistake was that I was doing so from my phone, and the whole article got deleted. Lesson learnt! Seomelono (talk) 16:41, 22 November 2021 (UTC)Reply
