Please stop changing the date format of Philippine related articles to DDMMYY. The Philippine standard is MMDDYY. The Philippines follows the US date standard in English articles. -WayKurat (talk) 15:11, 15 March 2017 (UTC)Reply

Proposed deletion of Joyce Pring

edit

The article Joyce Pring has been proposed for deletion because it appears to have no references. Under Wikipedia policy, this biography of a living person will be deleted after seven days unless it has at least one reference to a reliable source that directly supports material in the article.

If you created the article, please don't be offended. Instead, consider improving the article. For help on inserting references, see Referencing for beginners, or ask at the help desk. Once you have provided at least one reliable source, you may remove the {{prod blp/dated}} tag. Please do not remove the tag unless the article is sourced.   Hello, I'm McGeddon. I noticed that you made a change to an article, Joseph Garrett, but you didn't provide a reliable source. It's been removed and archived in the page history for now, but if you'd like to include a citation and re-add it, please do so! If you need guidance on referencing, please see the referencing for beginners tutorial, or if you think I made a mistake, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Per WP:DOB, dates of birth should be sourced. McGeddon (talk) 11:48, 28 March 2017 (UTC)Reply

Please do not add or change content, as you did at Belize, without citing a reliable source. Please review the guidelines at Wikipedia:Citing sources and take this opportunity to add references to the article. Thank you. Materialscientist (talk) 12:30, 3 April 2017 (UTC)Reply

Sami dates

edit

I note you put a {{cn}} on the paragraph about the way dates are written in Sami. I see you earlier added that essive case is used, which hints you have some knowledge also about the rest (I tried to check that detail, but Wikipedia says nothing about essive in Sami, unless the Magyar version knows something).

I wonder whether you think my rewording changed the meaning of the sentence to something you do not recognize, or whether you wanted a source just because we want it that way on Wikipedia. If the former, the paragraph should be immediately rewritten, as I have very little knowledge of Sami.

Proposed deletion of Claudia Zobel

edit

The article Claudia Zobel has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

No evidence of notability for BLP

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Hi Sethdecastro1. edit

Your recent edit on Date and time notation in the United Kingdom has a rather nonsensical and incoherent edit summary attached. To make this sort of major edit (including the removal of citation notes), you must explain your reasoning clearly. There are numerous style guides supporting what was present before your edit. Please explain your reasoning in an intelligible manner, either here or on the article's talk page. This may require you to provide citations to support your point. I would also question why - having removed sources - you placed a citation needed tag later on the page (the same point, still). Please do provide an explanation. Failure to do so quickly may lead to your edit being undone, until you can provide editors with a clear argument to justify your actions. -Sb2001 (talk) 15:38, 4 July 2017 (UTC)Reply

Unexplained changes

edit

Hi Sethdecastro, I know you're new here and that this is a complicated website, but I'm finding your changes to be unhelpful. When you choose to use the edit summary you sometimes state "updated" but it's not entirely clear what that means. The fact is that you're going around changing magnitude, magnitude type, intensity, and coordinates. These changes often contradict the sources that are still in place, so I'm wondering how in the world that can be helpful. The reason the sources are there is so that the reader knows that that is what the source says. It seems that your changes are arbitrary. Can you enlighten me on what your process is? Dawnseeker2000 15:32, 29 July 2017 (UTC)Reply

Hello again, you've now reverted a few times, with the edit summary "restore USGS". I still don't feel like that is a sufficient explanation. Could you please elaborate here? Thanks, Dawnseeker2000 20:13, 29 July 2017 (UTC)Reply
I'm probably the 'someone' you are referring to. They insisted on using USGS, even though reverted a few times and updating USGS latitude and longitude. Thankfully earthquake information and restored. Sethdecastro1 (talk) 20:21, 29 July 2017 (UTC)Reply
Hi again Sethdecastro. I came here to get some clarity with regard to your editing, but now I'm feeling that I haven't made any progress. I did not mention "someone", so I don't quite know what you're referring to, and I suspect that what I'm seeing with your edits and this apparent communication issue have the same root problem. I'm finding it disruptive. The USGS uses the ISC-GEM as a source. Thanks, and if you have questions about this, please ask me. One other thing: please stop changing figures that use moment magnitude to surface wave magnitude. See the moment magnitude scale for why it's preferred. This is a problem

edit

And I want to explain a little bit to you why:

Let's start by looking at the changes that you made to a Good Article that I wrote, 1986 Chalfant Valley earthquake. In this series of edits you:

  • Changed the origin time in the infobox so that it no longer agreed with the time in the body
  • Changed the intensity in the infobox from VI to VIII. This also contradicted the text in the body
  • Changed the depth from 10 km to 4 km

The thing about this is that you made these changes while leaving the sources for these figures intact. In other words you corrupted the article. Again. Do you remember me asking you just a few days ago specifically not to do this? All that we have for these articles are the sources. If you add text that disagrees with them, what is the point? Since this is the second time that I've had to come here to notify you about this issue, I'm going to call this a (gentle) warning. If this happens again I will notify the community about the problem with a post to WP:ANI. Please consider the following requests:

  • Please leave the figures that the ISC-GEM sources support alone. As I mentioned in the edit summary, the USGS cites the ISC-GEM for much of their work. If you don't understand what that means please ask me and I will gladly explain it to you in more detail.
  • Please do not screw with long established good articles. I put every ounce of effort that I had into that article and your changes literally made it worse. On top of that, they made it contradict itself and a summary article that I'm preparing to submit as a featured list.
  • Please do not replace moment magnitude with Richter magnitude (or surface wave magnitude). It's really going backwards to do that. If you don't know why that is, please read moment magnitude scale. In the last couple of weeks, it has been modified and polished by a Caltech professor of seismology (that is a new editor here) and by one of our own extremely knowledgeable seismology gurus.

Please consider this a friendly warning. I've worked very hard on these articles and it's unsettling to see someone come in and cause the quality to be reduced. If you don't heed the advice of more advanced editors, things may not go so well for you. Remember, I do the same. I am only an armchair scientist and when there's uncertainty or doubt, I follow the professionals here. We are lucky to have them. Dawnseeker2000 22:45, 11 August 2017 (UTC)Reply

Vanjoss Bayaban moved to draftspace

edit

An article you recently created, Vanjoss Bayaban, does not have enough sources and citations as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Time in Alaska, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Sitka (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)
