You're invited to the Canberra WikiMeetup on 20 November 2011
editHi! We're having a Canberra Wikimeetup on 20 November 2011 at Siren Bar in Gunghalin from 2pm to 4pm. It's most just a chance to chat with other local Wikipedians, get a chance to go a different sort of bar (which is reasonably kid friendly, serves real food, and has non-alcholic options), and, if you're interested, learning more about what Wikimedia Australia and local GLAM projects are happening. We'd love to see you and any Wikipedia/Wikimedia/wiki loving friends you have there. --LauraHale (talk) 07:22, 31 October 2011 (UTC)

Feedback Dashboard task force
editHi Shirt58,
Since you were a part of the WikiGuides project, I thought I'd give you a heads-up about a new way you can help/mentor newbies on en.wiki: we've recently released a feature called the Feedback Dashboard, a queue that updates in real time with feedback and editing questions from new registered contributors who have attempted to make at least one edit. Steven Walling and I are putting together a task force for experienced Wikipedians who might be interested in monitoring the queue and responding to the feedback: details are here at Wikipedia:Feedback Dashboard. Please sign up if you're interested in helping out! Thanks, Maryana (WMF) (talk) 22:08, 7 November 2011 (UTC)

Da enlightened one
editI've finally blocked (24 hours) Da enlightened one (talk · contribs), specifically for copyright violations despite the warning I gave him, but his edits which change dates so they no longer reflect sources or the original articles (always making places look earlier), his ignoring requests to use edit summaries, and his general unwillingness to communicate despite my last post to his talk page contributed. If you have time, you might want to counsel him. Thanks. Dougweller (talk) 17:49, 13 November 2011 (UTC)

A tool for you!
editHi Shirt58! I've just come across one of your edits (or that you have been patrolling new pages), and noticed that you might appreciate some help with references.
I case you're not aware, you might consider using this tool – it makes your life a whole heap easier, by filling in complete citation templates for your links. All you do is install the script:
// Add [[WP:Reflinks]] launcher in the toolbox on left addOnloadHook(function () { addPortletLink( "p-tb", // toolbox portlet "http://toolserver.org/~dispenser/cgi-bin/webreflinks.py/" + wgPageName + "?client=script&citeweb=on&overwrite=&limit=30&lang=" + wgContentLanguage, "Reflinks" // link label )});
onto Special:MyPage/skin.js, then paste the bare URL between your <ref></ref> tabs, and you'll find a clickable link called Reflinks in your toolbox section of the page (probably in the left hand column). Then click that tool. It does all the rest of the work (provided that you remember to save the page! It doesn't work for everything (particularly often not for PDF documents), but for pretty much anything ending in "htm" or "html" (and with a title) it will do really, really well. You may consider taking on Category:Articles needing link rot cleanup. So long! --Sp33dyphil © • © 08:56, 15 November 2011 (UTC)
Speedy deletion nomination of File:Ego Leonard in Brighton 2008.jpg
editA tag has been placed on File:Ego Leonard in Brighton 2008.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F3 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is an image licensed as "for non-commercial use only," "non-derivative use" or "used with permission," it has not been shown to comply with the limited standards for the use of non-free content. [1], and it was either uploaded on or after 2005-05-19, or is not used in any articles. If you agree with the deletion, there is no need to do anything. If, however, you believe that this image may be retained on Wikipedia under one of the permitted conditions then:
- state clearly the source of the image. If it has been copied from elsewhere on the web you should provide links to: the image itself, the page which uses it and the page which contains the license conditions.
- add the relevant copyright tag.
If you think that this notice was placed here in error, contest the deletion by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". Doing so will take you to the talk page where you will find a pre-formatted place for you to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that the administrator userfy the page or email a copy to you. Shirt58 (talk) 12:13, 15 November 2011 (UTC)

Speedy deletion declined: Flair Finance
editHello Shirt58. I am just letting you know that I declined the speedy deletion of Flair Finance, a page you tagged for speedy deletion, because of the following concern: The previous AfD came to delete because there were no references whatsover. This article has some references, and therefor cannot be covered under the same AfD, and would have to run again. Thank you. Martijn Hoekstra (talk) 08:56, 20 November 2011 (UTC)

Cocteau Twins
editHi, and thanks for your work there. I wondered if you could outline your specific OR issues with this article in article talk with a view to resolving them? Thanks a lot. --John (talk) 13:19, 30 December 2011 (UTC)
- Hi John!
- As everyone knows, Cocteau Twins are without doubt the one of most sublimely sublime musical group that ever existed, and Heaven or Las Vegas is the defining musical masterwork of the 20th Century. Erm... [citation needed].
- "[t]he Cocteau Twins tended to defy concise categorisation, and their music was a key influence on dream pop."
- "The style the group had begun exploring with Head over Heels reached its peak on Heaven or Las Vegas... "
- "The former consisted of four gentle acoustic songs,... "
- "... and were close to breaking up over internal problems due in large part to Guthrie's addiction to drugs and alcohol... " WP:BLP problem?
- "It was a departure from the heavily-processed, complex and layered sounds of Blue Bell Knoll and Heaven or Las Vegas, featuring clearer and more minimalistic arrangements... "
- and so on.
- All the above is obviously WP:THETRUTH, and just needs proper citations for verification. Problem is, I think it will be rather dificult to find those refs... as they are quite possibly people's opinions. Hence the tag.
--Shirt58 (talk) 13:51, 30 December 2011 (UTC)
- Thank you, that makes more sense now. --John (talk) 14:01, 30 December 2011 (UTC)
- To clarify, what I should have written was:
Problem is, I think it will be rather dificult to find those refs... as they are quite possibly
people's opinionsthe fact research and opinions of people who are not established music journalists writing in mainstream publications with close editorial oversight. Hence the tag.- --Shirt58 (talk) 14:11, 30 December 2011 (UTC)
- Thank you, that makes more sense now. --John (talk) 14:01, 30 December 2011 (UTC)
- Guthrie's substance abuse issues are easy to find refs for as he has talked about them extensively. I have added a decent ref for that and trimmed out the worst of the fancruft. See what you think. --John (talk) 14:19, 30 December 2011 (UTC)
- I see it, and I think - thank you very much indeed. --Shirt58 (talk) 14:27, 30 December 2011 (UTC)
- Not at all, it was a pleasure. Thank you for highlighting the problems. I will take the tags down now if you have no objection. --John (talk) 14:32, 30 December 2011 (UTC)
- I see it, and I think - thank you very much indeed. --Shirt58 (talk) 14:27, 30 December 2011 (UTC)
