Speedy deletion nomination of Pritish Nandy Communications Ltd

edit

A tag has been placed on Pritish Nandy Communications Ltd, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, product, group, service or person and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become an encyclopedia article. Please read the guidelines on spam as well as Wikipedia:FAQ/Business for more information. You may also wish to consider using a Wizard to help you create articles - see the Article Wizard.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag - if no such tag exists then the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate and adding a hangon tag is unnecessary), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you. ukexpat (talk) 18:08, 15 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

Article

edit

Hi Shishir58. I've now userfied the article (moved it into a user subpage in your personal userspace) so you can work on it with little risk of deletion. It seemed a shame to let it be speedy deleted when there was so much content, even though nothing is ever lost completely here, and we could have requested an admin to let you have a copy of the content if deletion had gone ahead. The article is now at User:Shishir58/Pritish Nandy Communications. Note that I've removed the "Ltd.". Wikipedia's naming conventions for companies prefer that we omit it - when the article is ready to go back into articlespace, we'll move it to "Pritish Nandy Communications", which is currently a redirect and which I'll request to be deleted shortly, once the article's old name and talk page have gone.

I'm relatively short on time at present, but will make a start on helping to clean up the article, as long as you're happy for me to do this in your userspace. We can chat about the work in progress on the subpage's own talk page, at User talk:Shishir58/Pritish Nandy Communications. Hope this all helps. Best wishes, Karenjc 19:14, 15 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

Dear Karenjc. Thank you so much. I am absolutely fine with you working on the article. I noticed you've made some changes already and they're fine. Should we both work on it together or would it be better if you made the changes and both of us could constantly stay in touch over the article in case you need some help with information? My regards.

Some advice...

Please slow down. Several editors are trying to help you, but you keep, intentionally or otherwise, undoing our edits. There is no rush, there is no deadline. And please take heed of the advice that we are giving you. Hope this helps. – ukexpat (talk) 18:13, 21 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

Totally unintentional. Apologies. I had no clue that someone was trying to help. I'm unaware of some mistakes I may be making by virtue of the fact that this is my first effort.Shishir58 (talk) 18:16, 21 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

Re: Importance of an article

edit
Hi, there's nothing that can be done to change it because this article falls in the category of articles that "cover a highly specific area of knowledge or an obscure piece of trivia". That it is of low importance doesn't mean that it is bad; most articles are of low importance, including some cities in India. Capital cities in India can be high importance, while Indian states are of top importance. The place that an article can improve is in its quality scale. Hope that helps. Ncmvocalist (talk) 21:33, 21 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

It does. Thanks a ton! Shishir58 (talk) 05:50, 22 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

Orphaned non-free image File:PNC Official Corporate Logo.jpg

edit

Thanks for uploading File:PNC Official Corporate Logo.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of "file" pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Eeekster (talk) 07:17, 22 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

Hi Eeekster...my first article, Pritish Nandy Communications just went live yesterday. I created an Infobox because Wikipedia said that it was missing and I'm currently trying to upload the PNC logo into the Infobox. I have just finished uploading the jpeg logo onto Wikipedia so can you advise me on how I should go about inserting it into the Infobox? This will hopefully solve the issue of the image being an orphan image. Shishir58 (talk) 07:43, 22 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

Actually I just managed to do it myself. Please see the infobox. I guess it no longer is an orphaned image. Shishir58 (talk) 08:08, 22 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

Hi, who is this contributer you're talking about who maybe connected with the company in question? Shishir58 (talk) 06:04, 23 July 2010 (UTC)Reply
Er..that would be you. – ukexpat (talk) 13:12, 23 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

That's not fair and more importantly, not right. Please understand that we're all professionals at the end of the day and sometimes the incorrect evaluations or hasty conclusions made by editors, like yourself, is extremely humiliating. I understand that all you're doing is following a prototype but I'm a professional jounalist and for my work to be hacked was hard for me to digest. I am only fighting for what I think is right and fair in my opinion. It's a natural reaction. It would be very childish for you to misinterpret that for being biased towards the company that I'm writing an article on. Just try and go easy on first time editors, if that's not too much to expect. Or given your opinion about me, maybe it is. Shishir58 (talk) 15:14, 23 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

First please read WP:OWN - when you put anything on Wikipedia you agree that anyone else can and will edit it. We have merely done so to make the article comply with Wikipedia's myriad policies and guidelines, we have not "hacked" it. Second, no we are most definitely not all professionals - the vast majority of Wikipedia editors are volunteers who edit here because we believe in the goals of this project, we are not paid by anyone to do so. – ukexpat (talk) 18:55, 23 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

The rules are not what I'm questioning Ukexpat. There's a very thin line between teaching someone and humiliating someone. I applaud the efforts that you and the rest of the team at Wikipedia are making day in and day out. It's an investment of time and some serious effort. I'm not sure about your other encounters, but a first time editor like myself is here to learn. Unfortunately, I've ended up being accused of certain things that are not true and humiliated as a result of that. Just go through the article's talk page and you'll know. I even tried deleting some older posts because I found it extremely disheartening to read everytime I logged on to see my article. Just go easy on first timers. Everyone is not the same even though you may not have the time or the inclination to judge who is genuine and who is not. Strangely, and I say this again despite Cameron's previous responses, every rule in the book has been applied to my article because I drew your attention to my article on the help desk. I wanted to do it the right way or else I would not have asked for help. There are tons of articles that have sneakily been uploaded with extremely promotional content some even in the same space as the company I've written on.But they get away scot free. Just doesn't seem right or fair. Please remember, for a first time editor, similar articles are a reference to go by. Shishir58 (talk) 07:13, 24 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

No need to send them to me, just to permissions as set out at WP:IOWN. – ukexpat (talk) 13:12, 23 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

Got it. Once the permission is accepted, will they by default put back the images that you deleted onto the pages I created yesterday or would I need to redo that entire process on Commons again? Shishir58 (talk) 15:16, 23 July 2010 (UTC)Reply
When OTRS (permissions) gets the e-mail they will review and if it acceptable they will undelete and tag the images with an OTRS ticket number indicating that the permission is received and is OK. Then the images can be put back in the article as before. And please note, I did not delete the images, that was done by an administrator at Commons. – ukexpat (talk) 18:47, 23 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

I know. Someone called Martin did and I've had a word with him on my Commons talk page. He pretty much said the same thing. Waiting for the permissions now. Shishir58 (talk) 06:48, 24 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

Back again, don't worry, we keep a careful eye on all articles to ensure that they don't look like adverts. --Cameron Scott (talk) 18:54, 4 September 2010 (UTC)Reply

Posting movie posters is an advert when it's the main product line of the Company we're writing about?? I have received a ticket number from COmmons and the permission to upload these files. What else is a movie production company supposed to upload in terms of visuals?? I have even asked Martin to check if I'm doing it right. Shishir58 (talk) 18:58, 4 September 2010 (UTC)Reply
It's not about permissions, it's about placement - that amount of images is overwhelming the amount of text in the article - one or two is fine. But that shows what the company does, adding additional posters doesn't actually provide any additional encyclopaedic informational value. they make films, we get from that two images, ten or twenty doesn't provide any additional information and they are then decorative. --Cameron Scott (talk) 19:00, 4 September 2010 (UTC)Reply

Cameron, I get that. Then why is it that someone else has deleted all of them?? Shishir58 (talk) 07:57, 5 September 2010 (UTC)Reply

File Copyright problem

Thanks for uploading File:2009kumarbuilders.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, we also need to know the terms of the license that the copyright holder has published the file under, usually done by adding a licensing tag. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Unsourced and untagged files may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the file is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the file will be deleted 48 hours after 06:49, 21 May 2011 (UTC). If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem. You may wish to read the Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Fut.Perf. 06:49, 21 May 2011 (UTC)Reply

File permission problem with File:Lalit Kumar Jain.JPG

edit

Thanks for uploading File:Lalit Kumar Jain.JPG. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file agreed to license it under the given license.

If you created this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read the Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Fut.Perf. 06:52, 21 May 2011 (UTC)Reply
