===Question===

Hello, I have recently added to the page on the Greek Junta an Economic section, called unrivaled growth as I believe within this period, growth was huge. Immediately I met with socialists in droves who did not want any positive section on the Junta page. My title was altered to Economic Growth. I also made the claim that growth within this period was not seen before or after in the twentieth century in Greece. The Socialists did not belive me and asked for proof claiming there were times in the 20's and late 90's where growth was higher 'maybe' ??? I feel I therefore have to prove my point. If you can offer any assistance it would be much appreciated, V http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Greek_military_junta_of_1967-1974 Reaper7 20:22, 29 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

Askamax

edit

Hi, I have seen your interest in Greek motor manufacturing and was hoping you could provide me with some information. I was wandering if you had any data on a company called Askamax (ΑΣΚΑΜΑΞ) which assembled buses in Cyprus mostly in the 1980s. Apart from KMC (to which you have kindly contributed) it is the only M/V manufacturer I know of in Cyprus, and as such I think it deserves an article! Xairetismous Georgeg 22:47, 26 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

Hello. I have also heard of the company, but I do not have any sources - probably I did not investigate it enough because it involved "only" assembly and/or body manufacture. By the way, I have added Cyprus in the List of automobile manufacturers article with KMC - I was actually planning to add a few more words in the relevant article. Purchase of your Book

edit

Mr Skartsis,

My name is Paris Velissaris. I am a Greek Australian currently studying Mechatronics Engineering/Computer Science at the University of Melbourne. I have been greatly inspired by your Wikipedia writings, and would like to purchase your co-written book: L.S. Skartsis and G.A. Avramidis, 'Made in Greece', Typorama, Patras, Greece (2003).

What would be the best way of doing this?

Many thanks, Paris Velissaris

Dear Mr. Velissaris, Thank you for your interest. The best way is to directly contact Mr. Spyros Agorianitis at: info@typorama.gr

I will also forward to him your message.

The book (my second attempt to document a part of Greek Industrial History after the "Encyclopedia of Greek Vehicles and Aircraft" of 1994) has currently been "adopted" by the Science Park of the University of Patras. Please feel free to contact me for any further information.

Sincerely,

Mr Skartsis,

Many thanks for such a prompt and complete reply. I've emailed Mr Spyros Agorianitis. Thank you for all your effors, i'll let you know what develops.

ENFIELD 8000 - Constantine Adraktas

edit
Dear Mr. Skartsis,
The RANGE FIGURE appearing in the Commercial brochure you have posted in the ENFIELD 8000 article is wrong
The Bikini, lacking the Aerodynamic characteristics of the ENFIELD 8000 ELECTRIC CITY CAR ( the E8000ECC )
had a RANGE and MAXIMUM SPEED like the ones appearing in the main text of the ENFIELD 8000 article
The E8000ECC, however, which had a lower Aerodynamic coefficient than that of PORSCHE
had a RANGE of 50 to 90 Miles ( 80 to 145 Kilometres )
and a MAXIMUM SPEED of 60 to 80 Miles per Hour ( 97 to 129 Kilometres per Hour )
( the variation of the figures above was dependant on factors like the number of passengers, 'the ground gradients
the number of stops and starts, the condition of the batteries etc )
Sincerely yours
Constantine Adraktas
The 1969 to 1975 Chairman, Managing and Technical Director of Enfield Automotive
The negotiator and signatory of the Electricity Council - Enfield Automotive contract

Dear Mr. Skartsis.

If you search in Wikipedia for "User : Constantine Adraktas" or you click over my signature below, you will find the true story about Enfield Automotive and the Enfield 8000.

The true story, indeed, as I was the person who developed the Enfield 8000. managed Enfield Automotive in every respect for years and negotiated and signed the contract with the Electricity Council.

Yes, I know that a number of others have presented themselves as the "fathers" of the Enfield 8000!

Sincerely Yours

Dear Mr. Skartsis,

Thank you for your note in my Talk page and I repeat here my follow up comments.

On the issue of obtaining a permit to have the Enfield 8000 and its derivatives sold in Greece'

I was personally involved in the matter and I can tell you that there was no problem for the then Government of the Military Junta to have such permit be issued.

On the Range of the Enfield 8000 and its derivatives

Have you noticed that there is a 215 per cent discrepancy between the Range in the text of the ENFIELD 8000 article and the Range quoted in the Commercial brochure attached to the said article?

Actually, both such Range figures are not correct. But if one of them, say the Range for the Bikini, as appearing in the said brochure, were correct as being 120 - 140 Kilometres (75 - 87 Miles), were correct, THEN the Range of the Enfield Electric City Car, the E8000ECC, would have been much higher because of it having a lower Aerodynamic coefficient than the Bikini (even lower than the Porsche!). The higher the Aerodynamic coefficient the faster the batteries get depleted and the more battery energy goes into heating the Atmosphere instead of increasing the Range. Dear Mr. Adraktas (I was also addressed with the same question) the only thing I can say is that such information would enrich the article. Please understand , though, that I do not want to be involved in any more relevant arguments. Skartsis 07:18, 27 August 2007 (UTC)Reply
Dear Mr. Skartsis,

I fully understand anybody who does not wish to be involved in arguments that do not concern him, directly or indirectly. You have made a valiant contribution, however, with your relevant books (which I would like to purchase, if you can guideme to the appropriate source) and I would have thought that your having a copy of the first ever and worldwide contract of Electric cars (won in competition against Ford, British Leyland etc) would only enhance your objective basis of information. If you can see the matter along these lines and send me your email address, I would be very happy to email you the said contract. Constantine Adraktas 16:24, 27 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Economy of Greece

edit

Hello Skartsis. I have a problem with the Economy of Greece article.

The article does not include at all anything about Greece's huge financial problems, economic instability and etc. All other Economy articles, such as Economy of Italy say about their country's problems, but Greece doesn't. And let's face it, I know a lot about country's economies and Greece has a lot of corruption, low economic freedom, a recent poor economic performance and it is going through one of its worst recessions. Now, I'm not saying to erase the article and re-write it totally with a negative POV, however, some facts need to be added and there is nothing one can prove against it. This is fact, not opinion, and there are a lot of sources to prove this. All I want is to balance the article appropriately

So, if you see some recent edits to the article, it could be me. Tell me what you think about this.

Kind regards and reply--Theologiae (talk) 14:55, 20 October 2009 (UTC)Reply

The problem with some articles about economic history is that they either reflect very recent conditions (experienced at the time somebody wrote the article) or do not put things in the right context - typical of garbage written in newspaper or heard in TV shows. For example writing about "huge economic problems and corruption" in Italy and Bangladesh are both technically accurate, but, especially in an encyclopedic article, one should put the information about the country in the right context. Before the "Economy of Greece" article was "attacked" it had somewhat of a balance, as in the last paragraphs it analyzed recent negative evolutions. I would suggest that a couple of paragraphs were added at the end, that reflect the negative factors (low competitiveness, corruption etc) and the negative current situation, but it should not fall in the usual traps mentioned above. Regards, Skartsis (talk) 15:46, 20 October 2009 (UTC)Reply

Ok, so...

edit

So, Skartsis, to sum things up, you are saying to add the problems with the Greek economy in the bottom text. If so, tell me.

Reply

Oh, and also, what do you mean by the article being 'attacked'?

Kind Regards--Theologiae (talk) 17:12, 20 October 2009 (UTC)Reply

First, as I had explained, the article was recently "attacked" (I understand, by somebody else) when most of it was deleted (almost vandalized). If you look at earlier versions, you will see a much larger article with reference to the current economic problems etc. (I had also added a paragraph about the miserable 80s). What you saw that looked like advertisement, was the result of this semi-vandalism. I am OK with these paragraphs added at the end, they both balance the message and are accurate. Probably a lot of further expansion can be made, but in an organized way. Regards,Skartsis (talk) 09:47, 22 October 2009 (UTC)Reply

Map in Greece article

Hello there,

It would be great if you could change the map on the infobox showing the location of Greece, with the map that is located in the Greek Wikipedia article of Greece. This map is much better than the one in the English Wikipedia as it shows all Islands with detail. I would do it myself, but I ask it from you because I cannot yet edit the article. Thanks! Thanks, but I have not been involved in the creation of the infobox (and map) and perhaps it would not be appropriate to interfere. I think you can readily edit once you "establish" your user page. Skartsis (talk) 15:50, 25 January 2010 (UTC)Reply

What am I?

Hello Skartsis, I have carefully "read" (I don't speak Greek) your great book, but can find no indication of what this vehicle might be. I photographed it in Pelekas, Corfu, in 2004 - they used to be more common in the late nineties, when I first begun visiting the place. I thought maybe it is a Dimitra, but can't find anything that looks precisely like this. Thankful for your help and happy to be able to provide another photo!  ⊂| Mr.choppers |⊃  (talk) 02:38, 12 January 2012 (UTC)Reply

I want to thank you both for your interest, and for this communication ! If you visited Greece, especially in the past, you must have noticed that there used to be an infinite number of small companies and even workshops that built these funny "agricultural" vehicles - just as there were similar ones building 3-wheelers in the late 1960s. Many of these builders could not be classified as "proper" manufacturers, since they did not use standardized parts, while their vehicles were often sad contraptions, to say the least. It is difficult to recognize many of these, since they often shared the same cab (if one could name this a cab !). They also, naturally, were sold around their "home bases", so if similar vehicles appeared in Corfu, chances are they were made by a local company such as Hercules. Similar cab I have seen in vehicles built in Crete and the Peloponnese. The few makers I included in my book and transfered to Wikipedia, are those (even if some of their creations look pathetic !) that were somehow "true" organized manufacturers. I am sorry I can't help you with a more specific answer. Please feel free to contact me for any other relevant issue, I'll be happy to help more if I can. Best Regards,Skartsis (talk) 16:36, 15 January 2012 (UTC)Reply

Hello Skartsis, I formatted a nice little reference for your book. If you copy and paste this portion:<ref name=Skartsis>{{citation | title = Made in Greece: Το ελληνικο αυτοκινητο, οχημα και αεροσκαφος |trans-title=The Greek cars, vehicles, and aircraft | first1 = Labros S. | last1 = Skartsis | first2 = Giorgos A. | last2 = Avramidis | publisher = Typorama and University of Patras Science Park, 2007 | location = Patras, Greece | year = 2003 | isbn = 960-7620-30-5 | page = 177 | edition = 2nd }}</ref>[1]

Then this appears, using the {{reflist}} template:

Με εκτίμηση, Skartsis (talk) 17:09, 29 August 2019 (UTC)Reply

R-29

edit

I find the R-29 rather interesting, as it seems conflicting that Raab refers to it as a trainer whilst if 40 were shipped to Spain it must be been for use as a fighter in the civil war? I find it hard to believe if 40 were produced that there are no surviving pictures. If some were sent to the USSR after the Spanish Civil War perhaps they took some pictures in evaluation? If so, perhaps Soviet archives would be a good place to research. AlexMehtidis (talk) 16:17, 21 December 2022 (UTC)Reply

I, and fellow researchers, have beem "chasing" the R-29 for over 40 years. Contacted British [incl.Jane's editors], German, Spanish, Russian friends... Basically nothing more than what we already know. Although there is no doubt about its production in Greece and its shipment in parts (I have talked to residents of Moschato who remembered, and verified the fact), it remains one of the greatest mysteries in aviation history.Skartsis (talk) 17:49, 21 December 2022 (UTC)Reply
We know the AEKKEA archives are destroyed, and that the Republican air forces records were probably destroyed by the Nationalists - but I believe the answer probably lies deep in Soviet archives. The issue is, Russia guards the archives quite closely and its hard to get access, so even if it's there its likely that nobody has been able to see it... It truly is a great mystery, I just hope that one day more information comes to light. AlexMehtidis (talk) 08:56, 22 December 2022 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion nomination of 75 mm Schneider-Danglis 06/09

edit

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on 75 mm Schneider-Danglis 06/09 requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be an unambiguous copyright infringement. This page appears to be a direct copy from http://army.gr/sites/default/files/strategic_and_operational_innovations_at_the_hellenic_armed_forces.pdf. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images taken from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites or other printed material as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If the external website or image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text or image — which means allowing other people to use it for any reason — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. The same holds if you are not the owner but have their permission. If you are not the owner and do not have permission, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for how you may obtain it. You might want to look at Wikipedia's copyright policy for more details, or ask a question here.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. I SAVE THE ABOVE AS A GOOD EXAMPLE OF PROBLEMS THAT WIKPIEDIA FACES. It is one more case where MY ARTICLE ON WIKIPEDIA HAS BEEN COPIED (the Wikipedia links are still visible !!). One way to prove it has been copied, is to trace the date of publication of the other article (in this case, published through a website). When I started writing in Wikepedia in 2006, I expected that my material would be copied, however, I didn't expect that such a "culture", of copy-paste would prevail... File permission problem with File:Biotechnia Ellinikon Trikyklon (logo).jpg

edit

Thanks for uploading File:Biotechnia Ellinikon Trikyklon (logo).jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file has agreed to release it under the given license.

If you are the copyright holder for this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{permission pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. Here is a list of your uploads. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described in section F11 of the criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Maratos?

edit

Could you explain in a little more detail where File:Maratos.jpg comes from? I mean, yes, it's from your book, but where did you get it in the first place? Remember, assessing copyright status requires knowing the provenance. DS (talk) 01:59, 4 December 2023 (UTC)Reply

page deletion suggestion - Pony Super

edit

Hello! I wanted to let you know I've suggested this article you created in August 2010 be deleted. The reason is due to insufficient information in the article, whereas the parent article Namco (automobiles) includes the same or more information about the Super Pony in the NAMCO (1972) section.
