I’ve realized it might be a good idea to get rid of my political and religious views from my userpage. Apparently that won’t put me in good stead to being an admin some day! This has ruined the layout of my userpage as a whole. Will you edit the barnstar you gave me so it spreads across the entire page in its current location rather than being on the right? Thanks a lot. Hi, Hercules (thunderbolt on user page, never mind), could you perhaps have a quick word with user Zappernapper (talk·contribs), I reverted changes he made, generally because it was full of OR and factual errors, at Quilava, and then I put a wikibreak sign up, and he's kinda gone...angry. He seems to be shouting at himself at Talk:Quilava, could you maybe calm him down if you have the time? I'm leaving tomorrow morning, and I've still to pack, so I'm too busy to get around to it. The Esperanza To-Do List is a place where you may list any request, big or small, for assistance. If you need help with archiving your usertalk, for example, all you need to do is list it here and somebody will help you out. Likewise, if you need help with some area of editing on Wikipedia, list it here! Again, any matter, trivial or not, can be placed on this page. However, all matters listed on this page must not be of an argumentative nature. You do not need to be a member of Esperanza (or this program) to place or fulfill requests on this page. If you don't have any requests, consider coming by and fulfilling a few! This program has not been very active, but has lots of potential!
What's New?
In order to help proposed programs become specific enough to make into full-fledged programs, the In development section of the proposals page has been created. Proposals that are promising, but need to be organized in more detail are listed here. Please take a look at what is there, and help the proposals turn into programs.
To improve both the layout and text of the front page, in an attempt to clarify the image of Esperanza, the front page is going to have some redesigning take place. Please take your creative minds to Wikipedia:Esperanza/Front page redesign to brainstorm good ideas.
Many thanks to MiszaBot, courtesy of Misza13, for delivering the newsletter.
In order to make sure all users who join Esperanza are welcomed, a list of volunteers who are willing to welcome new Esperanzians is at Wikipedia:Esperanza/Members#Esperanza_welcomers. Please add yourself if you are interested; we want to make sure all new Esperanza members are welcomed!
The In development section of the proposals page has been created.
Proposals page: Some proposals have been moved to the aforementioned "In development" section, some have been left as a proposal, and others have been archived. For those proposals that were a good idea but didn't necessarily constitute a program, General Esperanzial Actions has been created.
Two small pieces of charter reform will be decided on in a straw poll at Wikipedia talk:Esperanza/Governance. One involves filling the position of any councillors who may leave, the other involves reforming the charter.
Until cooperation with the Kindness Campaign is better defined, it remains as a proposed program.
Although having the newsletter appear on everyone's userpage is desired, this may not be ideal for everyone. If, in the future, you wish to receive a link to the newsletter, rather than the newsletter itself, you may add yourself to Wikipedia:Esperanza/Newsletter/Opt Out List.

Would you be so kind as to go to the discussion about the Islamic Wikiproject Award? This has been a proposal that has lingered for donkey's yonks. I think the image is acceptable as a WP:PUA, but don't think the image is in line with most of the images at Wikipedia:Wikiproject awards. The design is not well supported, and right before I was going to archive the debate for lack of support, someone else moved it to the Wikiproject awards page.

Thanks for the note. I thought about adding the ref to the consensus to the edit summary, but a) it makes the edit summary terribly long and b) I do other things with AWB while trawling through a Google list of the misspelling I am targetting. I compromised by providing a link to the discussion on User:Spellmaster. If you missed that, then others may have as well. I may have to rethink it again.
I am currently changing "honourary" to "honorary" on a similar basis and have so far received no comments, good or bad. My theory for why these variants (which are rare in the world outside Wikipedia) have survived so long here is that they look like UK/US variation, and we are all so attuned to leaving regional variants in place that we assume that is what they are.

Here in Wikipedia there are hundreds of wikipedians whose work and efforts go unappreciated. One occasionally comes across editors who have thousands of good edits, but because they may not get around as much as others, their contributions and hard work often go unnoticed. As Esperanzians we can help to make people feel appreciated, be it by some kind words or the awarding of a Barnstar. This is where the Barnstar Brigade comes in. The object of this program is to seek out the people which deserve a Barnstar, and help them feel appreciated. With your help, we can recognize more dedicated editors!

I did some preliminary cleanup, I'll look into it further. First of all, there's quite a few facts in the intro which could do with citing. I don't know if they are cited elsewhere in the article, but I'd think it'd be good if they were cited there too. (Sorry if they are and I've missed it). Also, the logo lacks a source of fair use rationale. HighwayDaytrippers11:11, 30 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Hi! evrik suggested I contact you since you're associated with WikiProject Awards. After some discussion about changing the name of the "Working Man's Barnstar" to something gender inclusive, we realized that there is not much distinction between "Working Man's Barnstar" and the "Barnstar of Diligence". In order to avoid an overly-PC rename of "Working Man's", and given that there's not much difference between the two anyway, I thought it'd be best to conflate the two awards and have only "The Barnstar of Diligence." Certainly eight is integral to the concept of an octagon, but the question is whether a link to eight has value. Is it likely that a reader wanting to know about an octagon will be unsure of the meaning of the word 'eight'? I think one of the relevant links there (Octahedron) ought to be added to the 'See also' in Octagon, but otherwise I can't see the value of the link. Colonies Chris12:09, 27 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

A user, Orion Blastar, has been insulting me for the past day or two on my (and his) knowledge and understanding of evolution. The most recent comment he made was accusing you of being my sock puppet! He accused me of faking my own barnstar. This has no bearing to Wikipedia, I was just so disgusted that he said it I had to tell you to gauge your response.

Hello,
If you are creator of the new Wiktionary logo, my congratulations on success! But I'd like to suggest that a Korean letter on the image(at the top right) should be changed to this letter 말, which means 'language' in Hangeul. -- 아흔(A-heun) 12:36, 3 November 2006 (UTC)
Furthermore, I'd consider it *EXTREMELY* important to avoid mishaps like those the current Wikipedia logo suffers -- wrong characters, improper characters, and so on. Could you make sure that the characters you've picked for your logo are appropiate? (Most likely by asking native speakers of the respective languages about it.) Thanks! —Nightstallion(?)13:54, 3 November 2006 (UTC)Reply
Thank you for going the extra mile, Nightstallion and Smurrayinchester. I am sure that your efforts will be recognized in future.
As for an appropriate Japanese letter for the Wiktionary logo, I have my opinion and have no problem expressing it on Meta-Wiki in English, but my opinion may not represent the vast majority of native Japanese speakers.
Since there are a lot of monolingual Japanese editors who can only voice their opinion in 日本語 (Japanese, nihongo), I would like to make an announcement on 日本語版 (the Japanese Wikipedia, nihongo-ban). While I support multilingualism and multiculturalism and don’t mind if someone post his/her thoughts in his/her native language including non-Latin script based languages on m:Talk:Wiktionary/logo, in reality, I don’t think there are enough translators to keep the process moving forward in a timely manner. Is it possible to make a page on Wiki-Meta like ”Talk:Wiktionary/logo-JA” where monolingual Japanese editors can post their opinions in their native tongue? (I don’t not if this is a viable option or not. That’s why I am asking you here.) I promise you that I will consolidate their opinions and report them back to you in English in a timely manner. I wish I can do the same to other languages but don’t understand Devanagari, Korean, Arabic, Greek Cyrilic, Chinese and Hebrew.
I've created a image here. The font of a letter on the left side is Adobe Myungjo (명조), that on the right is Gungsuh (궁서). I prefer Myungjo to the others fonts. But for slogan "The Free Dictionary" in Korean translation, I'd like to choose Gungsuh (궁서), which is a calligraphic font. -- 아흔(A-heun) 18:11, 7 November 2006 (UTC)
"The free Dictionary" should be translated into "말과 글의 누리" in Korean. I think I've already proposed it in Meta:Discussion on the logo votes (section Wiktionary, ko). Is the font you've found Myungjo명조? -- 아흔(A-heun) 17:53, 9 November 2006 (UTC)
Hi A-heun and Smurrayinchester – it's probably only me, but I somehow don't really like Gungsuh fonts (especially at small sizes, for example in a logo), so I was going to say I'd like you to have a look at some alternatives (1·2·3·4) in case I can change your mind – but then I just read this and I understand it was a concious decision to use those fonts in the logo, which I accept since it's A-heun who runs the project almost single-handedly. Anyway, I'm glad to see both of you have done a very nice job with the logo and its Korean tagline! Wp./Wp./바퀴 2006-11-10
Hello Smurrayinchester, thanks for your effort. How lovely the image is! I've been also afraid the Gungsuh font in small size would take somehow diffuse effect, as 바퀴 said. The slogan "말과 글의 누리" seems to need more sharpness - not grey, but black. I think this has to be equally applied to logos in English, Russian, Hebrew. -- 아흔(A-heun) 16:48, 10 November 2006 (UTC)
Would you please create a "favicon" in Korean? I'd like to use it as soon as possible. As you know, the image should be uploaded in the Commons. Thanks -- 아흔(A-heun) 20:15, 13 November 2006 (UTC)
I am sorry but it took longer than I thought.
Surprise, surprise, surprise. I made an announcement at the Japanese Wiktionary, and its editors said they like ウィ, the first letter for ウィクショナリー(Wiktionary)in Japanese katakana. I would never come up with this idea by myself because ウィ appears as if there are two letters. However, in fact, ウ and ィ are inseparable in this case, therefore it is considered as one letter. It is always nice to ask other people’s opinion. As for the Mah Jong style main logo, they will be fine if you use シ or ウィ. Thus, you can continue to use シ if you want. Meanwhile, is it possible to use ウィ for the Japanese favicon? This is the opinion of editors who actually make contribution to the Japanese Wiktionary (its traffic is very s-l-o-o-w, and there are a very few active editors up there, though), and I would like to support their opinion. (I posted the same message at Metawiki.) --Californiacondor03:00, 14 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

Admin Coaching needs coaches!!! If you are an administrator, or even a generally experienced user, do consider signing up to be a coach.
Admin Coaching, now being coordinated by HighwayCello, is a program for people who want help learning some of the more subtle aspects of Wikipedia policy and culture. People are matched with experienced users who are willing to offer coaching. The program is designed for people who have figured out the basics of editing articles; they're not newcomers any more, but they might want some help in learning new roles. In this way, Esperanza would help keep hope alive for Wikipedia because we would always be grooming the next generation of admins.

Hi, is there currently anything holding up adoption of the new Wiktionary logo? At the Vietnamese Wiktionary, we've had an announcement about the logo up for a few months already, but the old (bland) logo's still there. Our "Wiki.png" file is operational, so if you could customize the logo for Vietnamese (W, Wiktionary, Từ điển mở), I can update wikt:vi:Hình:Wiki.png and the new logo will be visible immediately. I don't think it'd be controversial at all at that wiki, since two of our main contributors voted for this logo and other one abstained, in effect saying "the vote has taken so long that the logo probably won't ever change". Anyways, if you have the time, please consider customizing it for Vietnamese. I would customize the logo myself, but I don't have access to an SVG-capable program right now. Thanks. – Minh Nguyễn (talk, contribs) 20:33, 15 January 2007 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for your help! I've updated the Vietnamese Wiktionary logo with your image, and it looks great. (I had to scale it down to 128×155 px so that it would fit in the logo box.) By the way, m:Wiktionary/logo makes it sound like 말 is the preferred Korean character for the logo, instead of 한. Is this still up for debate, or will the customized versions all get updated with 말 sometime in the future? – Minh Nguyễn (talk, contribs) 22:51, 15 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

I have started a “rough” copy of the information regarding the electron transport chain here. Would it be possible to change my text equations into Wikipedia math equations? If you like you can have a quick skim through what I have wrote so far to check the accuracy of what I have written. Thanks for your help. Simpsons contributor14:45, 17 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for uploading Image:130 Gyarados shiny.png. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Something is wrong with it though. "Evolution" field does nothing. And several diamond and pearl Pokemon lack a # (I do not own the game so I am curious why). --Catout16:56, 5 February 2007 (UTC)Reply
So far the game is only available in Japan, and since I've not yet seen any comprehensive online Pokédexes for the new Pokémon, I can't yet number them. As for the evolution column, I myself am not completely sure as to its purpose; someone else added it at a later date. The list probably won't be complete until the US/European release of Diamond and Pearl, when the English Name and number columns can be filled. Laïka17:30, 5 February 2007 (UTC)Reply
I am looking at sites like http://www.serebii.net/pokedex-dp/493.shtml ... The last column is for diamond and pearl and Sinnoh no is left blank there too. I am not certain but the player probably acquires national dex before being able to acquire or see the unnumbered species... This should be clarified on the list. Much like how it is on Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald --Catout18:20, 5 February 2007 (UTC)Reply
Um, yeah. I already said that below. And, there is already clarification on the list. Right in the intro it says “the fourth generation combined some (for the first time not all) of the 107 new creatures from Pokémon Diamond and Pearl with a number of the old ones to form the new regional Pokédex (of Sinnoh)”. --WikidSmaht (talk) 19:03, 5 February 2007 (UTC)Reply
I generally don’t intrude in other people’s conversations on the wiki, but I feel a need to make an exception here. The brilliant idea of the sortable list was Laïka’s, but I am the one who actually merged the lists and implemented the table. I created it using the old List of Pokémon by National Pokédex number and then spent several days adding the rest of the numbers. I am also the one who added the “Evolution” column. It doesn’t do nothing! It sorts Pokémon by evolution! Honestly, I thought that was pretty fucking obvious, but clearly I was mistaken; you guys are not the only ones who have had trouble figuring it out, so don’t feel bad.
What it does is insert new evolutions and pre-evolutions in the list below and above the original Pokémon, so for instance when you sort by Evolution, Pichu is before Pikachu, Crobat is after Golbat, Elekid and Elekible are respectively before and after Electabuzz, etc.. Perhaps the problem is that you don’t scroll down far enough after clicking the sort button. The first 24 Pokémon have never gotten extra evolutions or pre-evolutions, so there really is no difference from the National numbering system until you get down to the Pichu-Pikachu-Raichu line. If you have any other questions, feel free to ask them at Talk:List of Pokémon, where we are trying to solve the issue of getting people to understand the Evolution column( not on my personal talk page, please).
Oh, and to answer the question about D/P Pokémon not having numbers: For the first time, several of the new Pokémon in D/P are not included in the new( Sinnoh) regional Pokédex, and obviously they wouldn’t be in the Johto ’dex or Hoenn ’dex, so those species only have a National Pokédex number. --WikidSmaht (talk) 18:10, 5 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

Hello. In case you didn't know, when you add content to talk pages and Wikipedia pages that have open discussion, you should sign your posts by typing four tildes ( ~~~~ ) at the end of your comment. You may also click on the signature button located above the edit window. This will automatically insert a signature with your name and the time you posted the comment. I notice you adjusting several of the images in that articlea nd adding some new ones, which is all well and good. While I feel that it is difficult to make and article have too amny images, it is also good to have a gallery, which you have made up nicley. The only thing I wanted to point out was that the imagea of the grader and the backhoe were placed there by me since they directly referred to text in the same paragraph. Now, you have to scrool all the way down to the bottom to see the pictures, which (IMHO) is kind of annoying. Anyway, just my thoughts. KeepOnTruckin00:25, 14 February 2007 (UTC)Reply
Two of the three are sensitive, and thuglas is taking the whole process personally. Finally, there has never been a standard for how much support is needed for the creation of a barnstar. The LGBT star went up with seven votes, and thuglas is threatening to post his star when he gets ten supportive votes. Thoughts? --evrik(talk)
