Bruce Hornsby images

Hello! You recently have uploaded images using the Template:CopyrightedFreeUseProvidedThat, which is can be used by the original photographer to upload images to Wikipedia. I just want to make sure that you are the person who took these photographs. If you are, we need to go through a process to verify that this is true, at which time the tags would be changed to something along the lines of Template:CopyrightedFreeUse-User or template:GFDL-self. Let me know. Cheers! -- moe.RON Let's talk | done 21:36, 1 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Have a read through Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission, in particular follow the guidelines at Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission#When permission is confirmed. After the images are confirmed, everything will be fine. If they aren't within about a week or so, me or possibly someone else might look the pictures over again to check up on the status. -- moe.RON Let's talk | done 21:52, 1 March 2007 (UTC)Reply
For an example of how I do album covers, see Image:GS-IGW.jpg; it is always nice to have the actual page location and actual image location in the summary for copyright purposes. Let me know if there is anything else. -- moe.RON Let's talk | done 22:31, 1 March 2007 (UTC)Reply
Just follow Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission#When permission is confirmed. If you need help with tags, place {{help}} on this page and someone will be by to help you with the correct tagging (or point you in the right direction). -- moe.RON Let's talk | done 21:21, 2 March 2007 (UTC)Reply
Typically the image owner should license the images, such as GFDL or a CC license. But, since you quoted him as saying "any reason"... I'd say {{PD-because|reason}} will work with explaining they release them for use for any reason, though you may want to verify with the owner. You could even tag the images, give the owner the link and make sure they are okay with it. Once OTRS gets the email and processes it, they'll add some info to the image about how to seek info regarding the email you forwarded to verify the license. Sounds like everything is working out. --MECUtalk 22:43, 2 March 2007 (UTC)Reply
Looks good. I dunno how long OTRS takes, I've never used them before. But, give it a few weeks. If you get hassled about the license in the meanwhile, you can seek support from the OTRS folks more immediately in their IRC channel. But I think most people are too ignorant (not in a bad way) about OTRS that they won't know what to do. I wish the pictures were bigger, but, guess beggars can't be picky. --MECUtalk 23:32, 2 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Hello, Snidleysnide! What did you need help with? --Cremepuff222 (talk, sign book) 21:50, 2 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Should we talk here? or at your talk page? Snidleysnide 21:54, 2 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

I'll leave you comments here, and you can add comments on my talk page. --Cremepuff222 (talk, sign book) 21:54, 2 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

I tried looking around to answer your question, but I couldn't find anything. I also don't work with images and these sorta questions very often. You could try asking at the Help Desk, but otherwise, I'm not much of a help for you. Sorry! --Cremepuff222 (talk, sign book) 22:03, 2 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Aye. Good luck! --Cremepuff222 (talk, sign book) 22:11, 2 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Bruce Hornsby

edit

What I would recommend is looking for some reviews of his work. Reviews can often do a good job of describing his work on a certain album and remove any appearance of original. I generally find All Music Guide to be pretty comprehensive and helpful overall. Also, artists will often do interviews to publicize an album before it's released. If you can find some of these, they're often full of information to use. Make sure to paraphrase them though so you don't end up with a quote-heavy article; paraphrasing maintains the voice of the article and keeps it from sounding like a strange press release. There are some articles at Rolling Stone that you might be able to use. If you need any help, feel free to ask me. I might not be able to help as much as I'd like to in the next week or two due to fun medical problems, but I'll try to answer your questions and I'll be pretty available after that. ShadowHalo 16:58, 24 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Here are some things to work on with the article before going back for GA:
  • There really shouldn't be a block quote in the lead, since that's supposed to summarize the article. It'd be better to briefly paraphrase most of it and possibly incorporate some into an inline sentence.
  • For a good way to work the quotes, you may want to take a look at William Monahan. I would recommend the method of using a small fraction of the quote in the main article body. Then, you can do a pull-quote using a template like {{Quote box}} to contain the entirety of the quote. This way, it doesn't interrupt the flow of the article.
  • The albums should probably be thumbnails so you can put the name of the album in the caption. Also consider adding a more detailed caption like why the album is a significant part of Hornsby's work; it makes for a stronger fair use justification.
  • The "Current Projects / Recent News" needs to be reorganized. As an example, Gwen Stefani (an article I've been working on) recently made GA, and you can see how it deals with her current album and plans in the "2006–present: The Sweet Escape" section. Lists should be avoided in a context like this since they also interrupt the flow of the article; prose is preferrable.
  • I'm sure you worked very hard on these sections, but I have to say that the "Bruce Hornsby Appearances on Compilation Albums" and "Albums, Singles, and Compilation Appearances with other Artists" shouldn't be there. It really doesn't give the reader a better understanding. It needs to be removed from this article, though it may be appropriate for a Bruce Hornsby discography article.
Sorry it took me so long. I'm actually feeling quite better. I think I misunderstood and thought you were going to make changes and then let me know. Sorry about the mix-up. ShadowHalo 01:01, 1 May 2007 (UTC)Reply
I left some comments at the article's talk page. The article looks to be in a lot better shape now, good work on it. ShadowHalo 18:29, 4 May 2007 (UTC)Reply
If you want to convert mp3 to ogg, I recommend using Audacity. It's pretty easy to use. I have it installed, so if there are a couple songs, just let me know and I'll see if I can create some samples. Make sure that they appropriately illustrate points in the article that describe Hornsby's work. ShadowHalo 00:14, 8 May 2007 (UTC)Reply
I added in a sample of "The Way It Is" since it's his most well-known work and there's a nice amount of discussion of the work there. Fair use allows us to use the work even against RCA's wishes (I'm guessing Hornsby probably isn't managing the website) since it's to illustrate discussion of the work. Bruce Hornsby passed to GA! You should be proud of all your hard work. --Wayne Miller 15:34, 26 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

I second that. Although new to Wiki Snidleysnide (great name) left comments on my page that were intelligent, nice, balanced, interesting and refreshing. I will now put this user on my Xmas card list. :)egde 16:42, 26 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

GA reassessment of Bruce Hornsby

edit

I have conducted a reassessment of the above article as part of the GA Sweeps process. I have found some concerns which you can see at Talk:Bruce Hornsby/GA1. I have placed the article on hold whilst these are fixed. Thanks. Jezhotwells (talk) 19:15, 14 February 2010 (UTC)Reply

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
