International Series template

edit

I've removed the IS template you placed on the 2008 Open de Tenis Comunidad Valenciana article because the standard practice is to place it on the main article page. I've also altered a couple of others accordingly and changed the title of the IS template, which was misleading. I think making a template for the 2008 series, á la the Masters Series one, would be a good idea though. Yohan euan o4 (talk) 15:43, 12 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Your VandalProof Application

edit

Thank you for your interest in VandalProof, Solar-Poseidon. As you may know, VP is a very powerful program, and in fact the just released 1.3 version has even more power. Because of this we must uphold strict protocols before approving a new applicant. Regretfully, I have chosen to decline your application at this time. Please note it is nothing personal by any means, and we certainly welcome you to apply again soon. Thank again for your interest in VandalProof. βcommand 04:28, 22 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Orphaned non-free media (Image:Metallica-l.jpg)

edit

Thanks for uploading Image:Metallica-l.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 12:46, 5 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

How many?

edit
  • phew* I wonder how many articles the both of us are going to end up assessing today. I'm free all day so I have no plans to slow down. And I moved away from the end of the alphabet so you can continue assessing there and there should be no conflicts. Wizardman 15:45, 14 June 2008 (UTC)Reply
Thanks. And the conflicts only amounted to 8 or 10 articles, nothing serious, so no big deal. That was fun though, I'll admit I probably wouldn't have assessed this many had i not been competing. Wizardman 16:28, 14 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

Dutch Open ?

edit

Hello, I understood, after some confusion, that there were two distinct pages and draw pages for the Amersfoort ATP event, one created by User:Matancha on July 11, under the name 2008 Dutch Open (tennis), and one created by you on July 12, under the name 2008 Dutch Open, and apparently cut and pasted from Matancha's version.
I think you must have created your version after realizing that there were no articles under the name of '2007 Dutch Open (golf)' or '2007 Dutch Open (badminton)', and that the Amersfoort event page could be called '2008 Dutch Open', without the need for any disambiguation. However, if this is your reason, I fail to understand why you created a new page, instead of just moving the first one.
The existence of two pages is problematic, and one of the two pages must be tagged for deletion rapidly to avoid confusion. I could tag either page myself (probably the '(tennis)' one), but since I'm still not sure I understand your reasons for creating a whole new article, I'm going to wait for your answer before doing anything.
Cheers--Plafond (talk) 14:06, 14 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

Hello, I saw that you also created duplicate pages for the Austrian Open draws. I decided to transform them into redirects to the ones originally created with the word 'tennis' in the title, and make all links on the main 2008 Austrian Open (tennis) page point to the originally created pages. I think it's better for the moment to avoid having two exactly similar pages, with some editors working on one version, and other editors on the other version. I'm going to wait some more time for an answer to see, eventually, what you had in mind with the Dutch Open duplicates, before deciding to merge the pages, for the moment at least, under the titles with '(tennis)' in it, once again to avoid confusion. Cheers, --Plafond (talk) 10:07, 15 July 2008 (UTC)Reply
I've now modified the 2008 Dutch Open, 2008 Dutch Open - Singles and 2008 Dutch Open - Doubles pages to make them redirect to the 2008 Dutch Open (tennis), 2008 Dutch Open (tennis) - Singles and 2008 Dutch Open (tennis) - Doubles pages, and I've also modified the links in the 2008 ATP Tour page, and on the Template:TennisEventInfo, Template:TennisEvents2 and Template:Dutch Open tournaments templates to make them work with the version including 'tennis' in the title. Once again, sorry if you had something different in mind when creating these pages, but it's better to have only one set of articles to avoid confusion. Cheers, --Plafond (talk) 16:14, 15 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

Fritz Schulz stub class?

edit

Hi, as far as I can tell, you added the rating "stub class" to the article on legal historian Fritz Schulz. From my reading of the definition and the example provided at Wikipedia:WikiProject_Biography/Assessment, this seems to be a little exaggerated. Do you really feel that the article "[p]rovides very little meaningful content" and is little more than a dictionary definition? If so, what additions should be made? I'll agree that there is more to say on Schulz and in particular on his importance as a scholar, but I really think the rating is not right. Best Thomas Thomas Ruefner (talk) 15:38, 11 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

Sorry to bother you again, but the article cites a biographical paper on Schulz with almost 100 pages: W. Ernst, Fritz Schulz (1879-1957), in: J. Beatson, R. Zimmermann (Eds.), Oxford: Oxford University Press, 2004, pp. 105-203. ISBN-13: 978-0-19-927058-3. I think that should be "enough to establish verifiability". Request for wider input on discussion at WikiProject Tennis

edit

Hi, there is an extremely long and muddled discussion going on at WP:Tennis about the tournament tables found on tennis player articles (i.e. this type of table), and I'm notifying you as you identified yourself as a member of the project. The dispute is over the "Tournament Name" column, with the options being to either use the "sponsored tournament name" - in other words, the name involving the sponsor, for example Internazionali BNL d'Italia - or the "non-sponsored tournament name" - in other words, Rome Masters. I appreciate that this conversation is very long and convoluted, so a brief summary can be found here, which is also where I request the discussion continues. Thanks, rst20xx (talk) 23:08, 3 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

Upcoming World Development contest

edit

Penubag has been hard at work developing awards for this project. He has completed a very professional looking medal, and is almost done with a trophy that is truly awesome - both of these awards are visually stunning.

I and a few others have been working steadily on the country outlines that will be the focus of the contest - an outline for every country of the world! They're shaping up nicely. So far, 28 of them have been moved to article space - these aren't complete, but they are complete enough to be made available for readers to benefit from them. The rest of the set still includes temporary data that was generated by template (because it matched most but not all of the countries), and before those lists can be moved to article space, all the temporary data needs to be checked for accuracy, and if incorrect it needs to be replaced with correct information.

The effort on the lists has been on 3 fronts:

  1. Working on the lists in article space to complete them so they will be good examples for editors working on the rest of the set (during the contest).
  2. Adding or correcting other data (fixing redlinks, filling in blanks, etc.). The main type of work participants in the contest will be doing. The reason we're doing this is to get a feel for it, to develop the fastest methods for each type of task, etc.
  3. Improving the overall design and implenting changes on all 247 pages, whether in article space or not.

There has been some opposition to us running the contest based on edit counts or iterations. The concern is that we should reward quality work and not quantity, for fear of crappy edits done quickly without thought just to earn an award. I pointed out that the collection of pages are drafts in the Wikipedia namespace (therefore posing no danger to article space) and that most of the work needs to be done with power tools like AWB and Linky (which are specifically designed for repetitive volumnous work), but the reply was that we shouldn't set the precedent of rewarding barnstars for numerically-based tasks, and implied the threat of continuously MfD'ing the contest if we attempted to do so (like they did with the Awards Center - I was very surprised and disappointed that participants didn't step up to defend it). So we need to be careful in determining what exactly the awards will represent, and how they will be awarded.

Since rewarding iterations (passes with AWB on all of the pages in the set) are out, we really don't need the globe-in-stand (award we were working on) anymore. Two awards should suffice.

Once we get started with the contest, I'd like to kick the whole thing off with a round of medals for those dedicated few who have worked hard on the project so far.

What do you think of all of this?

Your comments and suggestions are most welcome.

No content in Category:2006 Indian Wells Masters

edit

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Category:2006 Indian Wells Masters, by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Category:2006 Indian Wells Masters has been empty for at least four days, and its only content has been links to parent categories. Gettting Wikimedians to the Olympic Games

edit

Hi. I am part of an effort to get Wikimedians access to the 2016 Summer Olympics as accredited reporters and photographers. Part of this effort includes covering the 2012 Summer Paralympics. Two Wikimedians have credentials to attend these games as reporters through Wikimedia Australia. As English Wikipedia does not allow original reporting, this is largely through Wikinews with a project page found at Wikinews:Paralympic Games. If you are interested in helping to get Wikimedians to the next Summer Olympics,I'd encourage you to assist with Wikinews efforts, and also to work on all language 2012 Summer Paralympic Wikipedia articles before, during and after the Games to demonstrate a track record of success. Thank you. --LauraHale (talk) 04:15, 17 August 2012 (UTC)Reply

Possible removal of AWB access due to inactivity
