Date formatting
editG'day, Sssoul. Re. Keith Richards, there is a standard that with complete dates you don't use 'st', 'nd', etc, but link the day/month (or month/day if you're not using UK format) and, separately, the year, i.e. April 22 1979. This method, coupled with you choosing the date format you want in My Preferences, should present dates so linked in the format you desire. Also you'll see years linked on their own a fair bit but it's not actually policy to link 'date fragments', more the opposite in fact. Feel free to drop by my Talk page if you have any questions... List of Gibson players
editGood evening, thanks for lending your knowledge to this article. Tomorrow I think I will have time to add your citation to the list - great info there. In the mean time, please remember if you start a discussion on a Talk page to do so at the bottom. The page does from oldest at the top to newest at the bottom. Also, in case you are interested, we have a WikiProject going that only works on guitarist-related pages. It is located at WikiProject Guitarists. You can add your name to the member list if you like. Thanks! --Spike Wilbury ♫ talk 04:24, 23 January 2008 (UTC)

Epiphone references
editI set up a reference section on the List of Epi players. Since the page is being improved I rm'd the other article tags in good faith. I found an interesting online read about Beatle guitars. You've probably seen it before. [1] I am not a fan of websources but the site owner quotes his book sources so it might be OK. Have a look if you have the time. Gibson's new inspired by Lennon guitar intrigues me. Along with that guitar I was pretty sure that Lennon used a 3/4 LPJ model as well. Do you know anything about that? 156.34.225.77 (talk) 12:36, 18 February 2008 (UTC)
- Know any background on Dave Davies' Epi use? It was the second electric guitar he ever owned but I don't know if he used it enough to warrant being incl. in the Epi player list. 156.34.142.110 (talk) 19:30, 25 February 2008 (UTC)
- I am not at work so I am not near "the vault" but I am not hopeful that I have access to your "pine wood" interview. On a different front... I am noticing that Mike Bloomfield is not on the Gibson Player page or the Tele player page. Hmmm? ... glowing omission there. 156.34.226.197 (talk) 23:20, 25 February 2008 (UTC)
re: Pictures
editI forwarded you question about pictures as citations to Wikipedia administrator Wiki alf (Alf is an experienced editor who has built many articles into fine information resources). I copied your question word-for-word to him and this was his reply:
- I've seen editors add in details of guns used in films when they are identifiable from the image on the screen, I don't see this as much different - providing it is clearly that particular model in the picture (that there's no other lookalike models it could be). .
Hope that helps. 156.34.142.110 (talk) 19:00, 18 February 2008 (UTC)
If I am not around
editI am a very busy anonymous editor... but I am not around all the time. If you want I can "Wiki-introduce" you to some other very good editors who can assist you should you require any Wiki-help with formatting and other little "wiki-intricacies". It would be an editor with an actual name... not someone like me who edits from the "purity" of an anonymous IP. It's always good to have someone who has been around that you can fire questions at. I;ve been here for 4 years +... and I am still learning something new every day. Let me know if you want a 'mentor'. BTW... I am an anonymous editor from the 156.34 range... but folks around here have nicknamed me "Libs" (because I am a librarian... go figure :D) Feel free to call me Libs... everyone else does. The IP I post from earlier... 156.34.142.110... is my static IP. During the day I am at that IP most of the time(it's my office) Once I grab a laptop and walk out of my office... my IP could be anything within the 156.34 range. But I check the talk page of that static IP often... I can always be reached there. Have a nice day! 156.34.225.77 (talk) 00:44, 19 February 2008 (UTC)
- Howdy, Sssoul! My name is Pat and I'm here if you ever need help on anything :-) - Libsey, whom is a good wiki-friend of mine (He's actually mentored me since I joined Wikipedia), sent me along to see if you needed help with anything? If there are some things that you find confusing don't hesitate to message me and I'll try my best to help you :-) - Some good policies to know the gist of are: WP:CIVIL and WP:NPA because it's important to be nice to people ;-) WP:3RR is a policy that basically protects Wikipedia articles - it's best to discuss problems first rather than reverting back and forth which is what that policy explains. Those are the only 3 I can think of right now (My mind is blank for some reason)... but yeah, if you ever need help with anything don't be afraid to message me or e-mail me or whatever :-) - Take care and happy editing! ScarianCall me Pat 13:45, 19 February 2008 (UTC)
- Hey Sssoul... one link Pat forgot to mention... WP:BOLD = BE BOLD! :D. 156.34.142.110 (talk) 14:30, 19 February 2008 (UTC)
Okay, after taking a very quick look at Talk:Jagger/Richards... I see that your statements are correct... You can be WP:BOLD (As Libsey recommended above) and remove the suspect sentences or you can simply stick {{cn}} at the end of the sentences/statements in question if you believe that they can be cited. Another policy I remembered to show you was WP:RS but you already know about that. You also seem to know of WP:BLP... basically, if anything seems remotely libellous (and as long as it's unsourced) you can remove it with no hassle whatsoever. If you need anything else or if any editors are giving you a bit of stick just come straight to me or Libsey (Or go to the Wikipedia:IRC channels - if you scroll down I'm usually always in the top two channels there under "Scarian" [Clever, eh?]) and we'll try and make sense of what's happening ;-) - Kudos for using the discussion page, btw. Not a lot of new users do that :-/ [Remind me to get Libsey to use the IRC channels too!]. Take care! ScarianCall me Pat 15:48, 19 February 2008 (UTC)
- Sure thing, hopefully see you on IRC soon :-) - And just tell me if/when you're doing the removals and I'll pop by. ScarianCall me Pat 16:18, 19 February 2008 (UTC)
Took a quick peak, looks okay... if you wanna know how to cite stuff see WP:CITE, or more specifically see WP:CITE#HOW ;-) ScarianCall me Pat 16:34, 19 February 2008 (UTC)

Jagger's Page
editNoticed you've been really helping out with the various Stones-related pages. Thanks a lot. Sometimes feels like the few of us who edit them are the only ones. Would you mind having a look at Jagger's page. It's a shambles lately as some admin edited the *beep* out of it because it lacked refs and now it's just awful. I'll try to contribute but I've been busy with school lately. Thanks a lot in advance. Stan weller (talk) 01:01, 3 March 2008 (UTC)
- Honestly never thought about changing it to "Ronnie Wood," but that makes sense. He's almost always referred to as "Ronnie" and his website is ronniewood.com. You'd have my support for that change. And thanks for the JJF info. It's hard enough to get a solid story on its creation from either Mick or Keith, so these fan tales don't help. Stan weller (talk) 01:07, 7 March 2008 (UTC)
The Gibson list
editHey Sssoul great work on the Keef and Woodie pages. Who's next? Harrison, Clapton. Anyhoo, Scarian put a timed prot on the Gibson player list and I can't trim any nn's out of it. Can you rm the latest "doesn't meet lead-in criteria" entry? PS... I am not against moving Ron to Ronnie. That's who he's always been. Thanks and have a nice day. 156.34.222.121 (talk) 10:02, 19 March 2008 (UTC)
- smile: i can't figure out which of your 156.34 talk pages to reply to today, so i'll try replying here. thanks for chiming in on the Ronnie/Ron Question - i reckon the only contraindications are: a] there's that sports figure also called Ronnie Wood (but i don't see why that has to stop us, since the disambiguation thing leads to Our Ronnie anyway), and b] i don't know how to do the renaming. do you want to do the honours, or teach me how? i did try reading the instructions, but i can't understand them.
- thanks for the encouraging words too - it means a lot! both Keith's and Ronnie's pages have a *long* way to go, though. Keith's still needs four decades of biography, which i admit feeling rather daunted by. i think the current article has a rather nice flow to it, but a lot of it will need to be dismantled (to avoid repetition) if we take a decade-by-decade approach to his bio - but i reckon that's the way it needs to go ... but anyway thanks & swing on Sssoul (talk) 11:21, 19 March 2008 (UTC)
- If you look at the top of your page.... there is a "move" tab. (if I recall it's right beside 'history). As an anon I do not have that tab. Simply click on it and the rest is self explanatory. 156.34.222.121 (talk) 11:44, 19 March 2008 (UTC)
transplanted
editLuna to the rescue
editLuna Santin (one of my favourite admins) has stepped in. Lyrics are copyvio and are not allowed in any Wiki article. And adding links to websites that are "lyric sites" is linkspamming and can get an editor blocked pretty quick. As for linking to the official Stones site for the posted lyrics... I don't really care. I don't see the point but it doesn't violate any WP:POL's either. Many articles about songs and albums contain user cruft "song/lyric interpretation" If you see any of these (Wiki is full of the junk) feel free to delete it. it's a WP:ATT vio and has no place on an encyclopedia. Good luck.
- PS I'll see if Scarian can help tutor you on moving a page. 156.34.222.121 (talk) 15:25, 20 March 2008 (UTC)
- thanks for your support - i needed that! as an author whose copyrights have been violated until they can barely walk, i did feel on pretty solid ground pointing out that lyrics are not "public domain" just because they've been published - but i was taken aback at how very er vociferous the character got about it. is there a way i can transplant his statement above to an archive or something, so that it's there as evidence if he continues, but not out in front where i have to look at it every day?
- Luna did good. 8)
- and i'm glad to hear i can go ahead and delete those declasse lyric-site links that are more pop-up junk than lyric. Sssoul (talk) 15:42, 20 March 2008 (UTC)
- WP:EL is pretty clear. "Do not knowingly link to any website that contains copyvio". That wording means... pretty much... that every single amateur fansite/fanzine is a policy violation and can be removed from Wikipedia. Many editors will argue that fansites are OK. But they aren't and WP:EL clearly defines it. 156.34.222.121 (talk) 15:52, 20 March 2008 (UTC)
- Hi mate. If i remember rightly, to archive you can just create a new page called 'User talk:Sssoul/Archive' ('Archive' can be any name you like, maybe that word with a date range) and cut/paste the para(s) you want to move. Then you can add a link to the top of this talk page User talk:Sssoul/Archive. There are also auto-archiving methods but this is a simple way to do what you want I think. Cheers, Ian Rose (talk) 15:58, 20 March 2008 (UTC)
Check out Ronnie Wood. Pat did the deal... it was an overdue change. 156.34.222.121 (talk) 17:02, 20 March 2008 (UTC)
- thank you & thank Pat (i will do that myself, actually - so that's just an equivalent of "say hallelujah" 8)) Sssoul (talk) 18:10, 20 March 2008 (UTC)
Sssoul, Please accept my sincere apologies
editHello Sssoul, This is monk777 here, the person who sent you that awful message about being indignant regarding the removal of song lyrics.
Please consider this a formal apology to you, my friend. I am truly sorry for the rude manner in which I addressed you.
I owe you that and then some. You're absolutely correct in stating that it was very uncivil (despite disclaimers), and quite unfair and disrespectful to you.
I also commend you for your polite and restrained reply as well, for that speaks greatly to the strength of your character. I feel guilty for putting you through something you clearly didn't deserve in the least.
When I read what I had written the next day, I was rather stunned and embarrassed myself. I've learned a humbling lesson here: "Don't post messages late at night, on the verge of falling asleep, and after having taken cold medicine with a glass of wine" - Believe me, I won't be making that mistake again.
I hope that this gaffe won't blemish me too much as a new Wiki member, as I am by nature totally non-confrontational and go out of my my to treat others civilly. This was an aberration, I assure you. From now on I will always treat others here with the utmost respect, and only post messages when I am fully awake and clear-headed.
As far as posting this on your "talk" page, I don't know how else to message you, so I beg your pardon for that.
Also, Thank You for taking the time to provide me with the relevant links and Wiki policy information on song lyrics. I now have a better understanding about this issue.
Take care! :-)

Invitation
editHi. Noticed you edit a number of guitar/music related articles. Just wondering if you'd be interested in joining the WikiProject Guitarists. The project has been sort of dormant lately. I am returning to Wikipedia after a years absence to try and get some life back into it. If you're interested feel free to add you name to the member list. Keep up the good work! Cheers and take care! Anger22 (Talk 2 22) 22:48, 20 May 2008 (UTC)
- The original plan for the Guitarist project's "notable instrument" field was to be very strict. It isn't supposed to be an overall equipment list. It was originally only meant to bring attention to specific "individual" instruments (like 'Blackie' or 'First Wife' or 'Micawber') but its use has ballooned over time. I personally don't see "signature instruments" as being notable unless the guitarist themselves had some input into their design (which many of them do). Most "sigs" are just marketing. As for Woody, for me, he is the first guitarist I think of when I hear the name Zemaitis. That's just me. The other guitars in his infobox do not mean very much to me. They stretch the original intention of the field to its max. If Woody has a specific early model Strat which he has used for the bulk of his career (and I believe he has) then to me that instrument is more notable than the sig models. But being included in the infobox doesn't say much about his vintage Strat(s). For notable instruments, in the hands of notable guitarists, the article should(must) have a decently referenced "equipment section" in the main body of the article. That is my thought anyways. I would be keen to see Ronnie's infobox field cleaned up. And if you are knowledgeable on the subject then by all means do so. I am partial to Strats so I am biased. When I was a little boy my favorite guitarists were Scotty Moore and Franny Beecher.(am I dating myself?) When I was ten I asked my parents for a Kay model electric guitar out of a department store catalog. My parents, without knowing what they were doing, went to a neighboring city to a "real" music shop looking for a guitar for me. The salesman "rubed" them good. The Kay I wanted was relatively cheap. And this music store crook sold them a guitar that cost more than twice what I had wanted. And home they came to me with a brand new Fender Stratocaster! To really date myself that puts a 1962 Strat in the hands of a 10 year old. I still own it. It's seen better days but all the nicks and bumps haven't made it any less playable. When I was a teenager I saved my own money and bought an identical twin to my first '62. I still have it as well. I keep both guitars locked away at my home studio. They are worth a few pennies these days so I tend to horde them like an old miser. Feel free to do whatever you want to improve any guitar/Stones related pages. And feel free to ask me questions anytime. Cheers and have a nice day. Anger22 (Talk 2 22) 13:06, 22 May 2008 (UTC)
- Your requested link; Template:Infobox_musician#Notable instruments. The description there is not written in the same style as the description that the Guitarist Project used in our original Guitarist Infobox. Yes, at one time our project had it's own Infobox. It was a lot better than the current musician box and pertained specifically to Guitarists. It even had a field allowing for a 30 second soundbyte to showcase a particularly notable guitar solo snippet. And it also didn't have any of the ugly colors that the current musician box has. But, Wikipedia is all about consistency so specialty infoboxes like the Guitarist Project box got deleted even though it was far superior. We shall rise again. New Barbarians at Largo or Landover?
editHi Sssoul. Thanks for your message. I was under the impression that there was only one Capital Center in Landover and thought that the reference to Largo was an error. However, since you posted your comment I have had a closer look and it seems that there were in fact two venues: one in Landover and one in Largo (although Wikipedia only seems to have an article for one of the venues). The New Barbarians played at the venue in Largo. Sorry about the confusion. Edelmand (talk) 11:02, 5 July 2008 (UTC)
- Yes, just adjusted the articles. Cheers! Edelmand (talk) 11:06, 5 July 2008 (UTC)
Thought you might be interested that I posed a question on Talk:Capital Centre why there were two venues of the same name in Maryland. A user confirmed that Landover is a larger area, whereas Largo is a smaller community within Landover. So I take it that there was just one venue after all, sometimes referred to as being located in Largo, and sometimes as being located in Landover. Both are correct. Edelmand (talk) 11:37, 6 July 2008 (UTC)
Ron Woods albums
editHi, I saw your message on the Help Desk, and have requested Category:Ron Wood albums be renamed Category:Ronnie Wood albums at Wikipedia:Categories for discussion/Log/2008 September 19. DuncanHill (talk) 11:50, 19 September 2008 (UTC)
- Glad to be of help - I used Twinkle to do it. Twinkle is a set of tools which makes some Wikipedia tasks easier. you can enable it in the "Gadgets" section of "My preferences" (linked at the top of any page while you are logged in). Best wishes, DuncanHill (talk) 11:57, 19 September 2008 (UTC)
Wikilinking
editI just noticed that on a couple of your recent help desk replies you are not formatting internal wikilinks correctly. Please take a look at Help:Link#Wikilinks for assistance - basically you do not need to use the full URL just the internal page name in double square brackets. Hope this helps! – ukexpat (talk) 16:32, 4 October 2008 (UTC)
- I don't think it's major no-no, but the protocol seems to be to Wikilink. – ukexpat (talk) 19:50, 4 October 2008 (UTC)
Little Richard
editHi. I don't know if you're a Little Richard fan (I personally know very little about the man, but I digress) or you were just doing some helpful tasks, but since you seem to be improving the article, I figured I'd ask your opinion before I go on an editing spree. I'm thinking of cutting the unsourced quotes in the lede. It seems like overkill to quote a slew of famous people plus, leaving unsourced quotes (from some living people no less) uncited are a pet peeve of mine. Also, I could be wrong, but nothing in the article talks about his sexuality. I'm guessing it was in there at some point because there's a discussion on the talk page about it, albeit from '06 & '07, but there's no mention of it now. Not that there should be a huge section devoted to it, but it is mentioned in other biographies, etc. If you have any thoughts on the matter, I'd love to hear 'em. Thanks! Assistance
editThere is a return visit from a troublesome troll on the Townshend page. This soapboxer has been here before and was a serious thorn. The wording that was settled on in the Pete 'fiddle-about' nonsense was reached by discussion and consensus. But Mr soapboxer hates it. I have requested help from an admin buddy but he is offline. editHi, I just wanted to stop by and thank you for your feedback. I appreciate your clarification. I did not mean to diminish the importance of your opinion in any way, just to argue a point. Sorry about effectively removing your previous edit concerning King's fever bout, in my recent wholesale reversal. However, as you may appreciate, edits (from others) around that time vandalised the overall article. I see you have now made amends - I trust all is now well. Regards,

editJust a note to thank you again - because I think taking the time to help other (less-experienced) editors edit WKP properly is important but underestimated. As I come across many other editors even less experienced than myself, your effort means that I can now pass this good practice onto others. Good work. Centrepull (talk) 08:24, 7 November 2008 (UTC)
Could you please advise me on applying the image template to this image page? As I have uploaded a publicity photo, I am trying to adapt a film poster template for the image page details. I read somewhere that this was OK, and I've noticed that many images don't use any template at all. According to the fair use guidelines, this image is acceptable in the absence of a editor-taken or similar Commons-conforming photograph. Image template from this page: East_is_East_(US_poster) Image page for D500 image that I uploaded here: D500 image I have added the template, and filled it in suitably, but I cannot get the template to show. Have you any pointers as to what I'm doing wrong, or could you link me to a suitable help page? I haven't been able to track it down. I will copy this advice request to the Samsung_SGH-D500 discussion page, and also the discussion page for the image. Centrepull (talk) 12:40, 11 November 2008 (UTC)

They're at it again, shunting half of my lead statement at the RfC up to a new opening POV section. I've restored the lead section and moved their POV section down below the RfC.

Hi Sssoul - I hope you had a good Christmas. I see that, like me, you spent some of the day fiddling with George Harrison! I'm puzzling over the second sentence - "Initially known as a member of The Beatles, with whom he played lead guitar..." I'd like to get the fact that he was known as the quiet Beatle into the lead quite early on, as that was a significant part of his image, and it is mentioned very often in sources. I tried "Initially known as the "quiet" Beatle, with whom he played lead guitar..." - but I didn't like that because then the second part of the sentence doesn't make sense (he didn't play lead guitar for "Beatle"!). Then I tried "Initially known as the "quiet" member of The Beatles, with whom he played lead guitar...". But as you point out, "quiet member" is not a good phrase! Currently we don't have any mention of his "quiet" image in the lead, and I'd like to get it back in. Any suggestions?
On a side note, when looking to check a reference for "quiet Beatle" I noticed that my work yesterday on consolidating the references under each book will now have to be undone, as the links do not go to the right page locations, but only to the first page mentioned! Grrrr! SilkTork *YES! 10:55, 26 December 2008 (UTC)
