Image use in Vebjørn Sand

Hi Taylorengstrom91. You've uploaded quite a number of non-free images for use in the article Vebjørn Sand. Non-free content use on Wikipedia can be quite tricky because Wikipedia's non-free content use policy tends to be quite restrictive in how such files may be used. While this policy generally allows non-free content to be used to support article content, the emphasis tends to be placed minimal and exceptional cases where there are really no other alternatives to using such files; this includes using text instead or images in cases where actually seeing the image is not really essential to the reader's understanding of the relevant article content. Editing with a possible paid conflict of interest

Hello Taylorengstrom91. The nature of your edits gives the impression you have an undisclosed financial stake in promoting a topic, but you have not complied with Wikipedia's mandatory paid editing disclosure requirements. Paid advocacy is a category of conflict of interest (COI) editing that involves being compensated by a person, group, company or organization to use Wikipedia to promote their interests. Hi Wikipedia admins - I am writing to you today to formally request my user be unblocked. I am a newer user to Wikipedia (have been active <1 year) and have made mistakes that administrators could judge as Wikipedia abuse or breaking guidelines. For example, I marked images as non-free/fair use when they were in fact free/compliant with Wikipedia/Wikimedia guidelines, and I've cited/referenced source material that has since expired or links have broken since the time I first researched them.

A number of these alerts were made on my talk page, and all of them have been rectified or addressed, with several of them receiving responses from me personally. My goal with Wikipedia is to edit articles I find lack greater detail, as well as to fill in some blind spots in regards to the underserved in the art community. That said, I've made several missteps along the way that I think I've learned from every time.

I totally understand how an admin can view my page and see the string of mistakes and place a block on me or request I stop doing a certain thing. As you'll see with my talk page, several of these users I've replied to and made my case, while with the last admin user I was unable to because they blocked me indefinitely. I understand that specific user is a volunteer and is doing their best to support Wikipedia and enforce rules, but taking a deeper look at an account and their edits as well as conversing with me over talk pages takes time so I can see why they chose to block me instead, although I believe it was a misunderstanding.

Ultimately I believe there was a misunderstanding with my user and my contributions and as such, I am requesting to have my full editing capabilities restored. Please let me know if there's anything further required from me in this unblock request. Thank you for your attention.

Hi Wikipedia admins, I am writing you today to refute my indefinite block status and request an unblock under the terms of {{unblock}}

In the latest unblock request, the reviewing admin pointed out that all the images I used for my edits were marked as "Used with permission from Galleri Sand in New York, NY". This is true, but the way I obtained said permission is completely compliant. The email addresses for those who are in charge of Galleri Sand and its artists are available publicly on their Facebook page --> https://www.facebook.com/gallerysand/. I simply reached out to the person in charge and asked for permission to use certain images (like the one of Vebjorn painting in the arctic). Thus my contributions are within Wikipedia's terms of use.

The reviewing admin also mentioned my edits' "blatantly promotional tone". For this I'm sure any promotional language was inadvertent. All my contributions have citations from 3rd party sources that are publicly available. I mention milestones and accomplishments, but never in an attempt to promote artists' or their work, simply to document their contributions to greater art culture. That said, one of the first things I will do once my status is restored is to double-check all my edits to make sure the tone is more even.

Also, as stated in previous unblock requests:

As mentioned in previous unblock requests and comments/replies, I am a newer user of Wikipedia <1 year and have made several mistakes in attempts to be compliant. To address the latest denied unblock request directly:

As I mentioned in a previous unblock request, I had requested permission from the Gallery Sand and associated artists to use their images and make their edits by reaching out to them directly at the email address found publicly on their facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/gallerysand/ Once I had gained approval directly, I had used the images and cited them appropriately. Given my newer status as a Wikipedia user, I mistakenly used the words "working directly with the artist Aune Sand and his gallery/employer" in my reply to an admin who had flagged some images.

What I should have said that I realize now is: "I assure you that any attempt to do this (break copyright policies) was inadvertent as I have obtained permission directly from the artist Aune Sand and his gallery/employer to use these images for this Wikipedia post/edit".

Like I've said, I am a newer user and didn't previously grasp the importance of certain words when it comes to Wikipedia's terms of use. I assure you again that all I was trying to say was that I obtained permission directly in a compliant manner and to take the flag off the images I was using. I believe I have been thorough in my unblock requests and my attempts to clarify things for reviewing/blocking admins. If you got them to grant their permission to allow the use of images and for edits, you are working with them. Full stop.
