Orphaned fair use image (Image:Yukoisamu.jpg)

edit

Thanks for uploading Image:Yukoisamu.jpg. I notice the 'image' page currently specifies that the image is unlicensed for use on Wikipedia and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Kaaterskill Falls

edit

Thanks for uploading the image. I changed the licensing to {{PD-old}}, since the picture is entirely a reproduction of the painting (meaning it would be a derivative work if copyright still applied), on which copyright has long since expired making it public domain (thus you can't attach GFDL to it as copyright would not otherwise apply). Replaceable fair use Image:PORTRAITterry3.jpg

edit

Replaceable fair use

Thanks for uploading Image:PORTRAITterry3.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that fair use images which could be replaced by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted 7 days after this notification, per our Fair Use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. – Quadell (talk) (random) 18:17, 13 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for that, David.
Terrance (may I call you Terrance?), the issue is not whether what you have written is verifiable, but whether or not the article has been written or substantially modified by someone with a conflict of interest. Please read, and abide by, the relevant guideline WP:COI, especially WP:COI#Editors who may have a conflict of interest. I am sure the rationale behind that guideline is obvious - if people were completely free to modify articles about themselves, Wikipedia would lose credibility. WP:COI is not the only rule that applies; WP:BLP is also relevant - you would be justified in removing anything defamatory, for example.
There is nothing to prevent you from removing the tag yourself. But may I suggest that a good way to proceed would be for you to state briefly, on the article's discussion page, that in line with the guideline you will not make further edits to the article but will continue to monitor it and to participate as you see fit in the discussions on the talk page. If you do that, I'll be happy to remove the tag myself. Philip Trueman 15:57, 28 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Image permission problem with Image:Ballwikilarge.jpg

edit

Image Copyright problem

Thanks for uploading Image:Ballwikilarge.jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the image (or other media file) agreed to license it under the given license.

If you created this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the GFDL or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the image to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the image has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the image's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Images lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Soundvisions1 (talk) 12:50, 29 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion nomination of File:Formalwiki.jpg

edit

A tag has been placed on File:Formalwiki.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F9 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the image appears to be a blatant copyright infringement. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted images or text borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, contest the deletion by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". Doing so will take you to the talk page where you will find a pre-formatted place for you to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines.  Ronhjones  (Talk) 00:50, 10 November 2011 (UTC)Reply

File permission problem with File:Ballwiki3.jpg

Thanks for uploading File:Ballwiki3.jpg, which you've sourced to Joel Simpson. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file agreed to license it under the given license.

If you created this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. Please do not restore the content published at Yuko Nii prior to following the posted directions for verifying license.

Your note at the talk page is not sufficient, I'm afraid. The website in question says "©1997–2013 Williamsburg Art & Historical Center"; if it is your website, you can modify it in accordance with the directions at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials, and we will be able to clear the copyright concerns and evaluate the article against other content policies.

Wikipedia's purpose is not to reproduce what article subjects and closely connected sources say about themselves, but rather to summarize what reliable, uninvolved sources have to say. This is in keeping with our policies on neutrality and verifiability. We will need sources other than the organization she founded to verify her achievements - for instance, awards she was given can be verified by news reports or even press releases by the organizations that awarded them, but not by the Williamsburg Art & Historical Center . Please review WP:COI for more information. --Moonriddengirl (talk) 22:16, 9 November 2013 (UTC)Reply

Well, I will follow the wiki criteria. However, I would like to point out that anybody who writes an article does so because they have an interest. So there is something a little peculiar about "univolved." We got a scholar to write it, a good one who is reliable. I just do not know what to say.Terrance Lindall (talk) 15:07, 10 November 2013 (UTC)Reply

Managing a conflict of interest

  Hello, Terrance Lindall. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on Wikipedia, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a COI may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. Editing for the purpose of advertising or promotion is not permitted. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:

  • avoid editing or creating articles about yourself, your family, friends, company, organization or competitors;
  • propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (see the {{request edit}} template);
  • disclose your COI when discussing affected articles (see WP:DISCLOSE);
  • avoid linking to your organization's website in other articles (see WP:SPAM);
  • do your best to comply with Wikipedia's content policies.

In addition, you must disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation (see WP:PAID).

Also please note that editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. Hamtechperson 18:19, 30 November 2017 (UTC)Reply

Disputed non-free use rationale for File:Manuscript of Speech by Queen Elizabeth I - warning on religion.jpg

edit

Thank you for uploading File:Manuscript of Speech by Queen Elizabeth I - warning on religion.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.

If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator seven days after the file was tagged in accordance with section F7 of the criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.
