Hi, I wanted to warn you about ensuring that the citations you're adding actually contain the information you're sourcing. For example, you recently added a citation to gunnery sergeant to support this sentence: These nicknames, which are usually regarded as titles of both esteem and camaraderie, are generally acceptable for use in all but formal and ceremonial situations. That source says nothing of the sort; it merely says that "gunny" is a nickname for a gunnery sergeant.

Your other citation does not support this sentence: Gunnery sergeants are commonly referred to by the informal abbreviation "Gunny" or "Guns". That source again merely says that "gunny" is a nickname for a gunnery sergeant; no mention of "guns."

I guess I wasn't as careful about the placement as I should have been. I also had already heavily edited that particular page - removing large sections of text that really didn't have anything to do with the source and I did think about cutting it down to just the reference it is now. Not trying to make excuses, but sometimes I feel bad about cutting out so much on some articles. I agree with your commentary and will try to be more careful/specific in the future. Gold Chin Straps on Combination Caps

User:TexasBob85, I like the graphics of the US service caps you made (great job). There is one issue that I see. The enlisted and NCO/senior enlisted members of the US Coast Guard and the US Navy do not wear gold chin straps on their combination caps. They wear polished black leather straps (see examples). Also note the warrant officers (not commissioned warrant officers) in the US Navy wear a very thin gold chin strap on their combination cap, but half the width or regular straps, in comparison to commissioned warrant officer and regular commissioned officers (see examples).

Since you are the creator of these assume graphics, it would be great to see more accurate examples on the Peak cap article, if you are willing. --McChizzle (talk) 16:36, 28 February 2026 (UTC)

Actually, the Navy had to relent and bring back the bucket cap - it was only "gone" from 2016-2018. The wheel cap is the "standard", but the bucket is an optional allowed cap.

JFKSWCS Flag

How's it going, TexasBob85? I hope you enjoyed the 250th Independence Day celebrations.

I noticed your creation and addition of the John F. Kennedy Special Warfare Center and School flag to the infobox of the page. Coming from that world, I thought something looked odd, so I looked it up on The Institute of Heraldry website and their flag has a difference insignia in the center and use jungle-green (sometimes called rifle-green) with silver-gray fringe on the flag (reference). It is not uncommon for the insignia on a unit's flag to be a little different than an insignia the unit would wear on their uniform. I went ahead and replaced it on the aforementioned article, but I thought I should let you know since you have gotten so good at making these flags and adding them to the appropriate article.

XVI Corps 1951-54

This is almost guaranteed to be a hand-made custom piece that would have been made by local craftsmen in Japan in the early 1950s when the XVI corps was stationed there. The insignia and name would have been painted by the artist custom for the customer. The bear itself may have been locally produced or not. Hope this helps. If you have a copy of their DD-214 (first issued in 1950) you already have their "records" - or you can request one from this web site https://www.archives.gov/personnel-records-center/military-personnel
